WWW.FOXSPORTS.COMAlex Bowman Back on Track at Bristol After Being Medically ClearedAlex Bowman, who has missed the last four NASCAR Cup Series races because of vertigo, will return to the Hendrick Motorsports No. 48 car this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. Bowman spent Tuesday in a street car turning laps on the Ten Tenths road course that is next to Charlotte Motor Speedway. He participated in pit-stop practice and did laps in a simulator Wednesday and was medically cleared to race. "Im grateful for the support Ive had fromHendrick Motorsports,my sponsorAlly, our fansand the medical teamthroughoutthis process," Bowman said in a news release. "Itsbeen tough being out of the car, butwe allwanted to make sure I was100 percent ready beforereturning.I feelreallygood, andImexcitedabout being at the track with my teamand gettingback to racing." Bowman, who couldnt complete the race at Circuit of the Americas because of the onset of vertigo, had a rough start in his first three races. He is 144 points out of 16th in the standings so it is unlikely he could rally over the next 19 races to qualify for the Chase. He would need a waiver to be eligible for the title because of the rule requiring a driver to compete in all races. He is expected to receive one. Bowman was replaced by Anthony Alfredo for Phoenix and then Justin Allgaier for the last three races. "Were proud of Alex and the way hes handled this situation," said HMS President Jeff Andrews said in a news release. "Hes put a lot of work into his recovery and followed the medical teams plan every step of the way. "From the outset, our goal was to prioritize his health and have him return when he was fully recovered and medically cleared. Were looking forward to seeing Alex back in his race car this weekend." Bowman is used to dealing with injury. He missed five races in 2022 because of a concussion and three races in 2023 because of a broken back suffered in a sprint-car accident.0 Comments 0 Shares 13 Views 0 Reviews -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMDylan Chesnut is 'the man' for Walled Lake Central baseballPitcher Dylan Chesnut let his team down in last years 5-4 loss to West Bloomfield in the Division 1 district semifinal. So the Lansing Community College commit wasnt about to let that happen again in Walled Lake Centrals 8-7 victory over South Lyon East in its Lakes Valley Conference opener on April 8.And thats saying something because the senior wasnt planning to pitch Game 1 of the series. But after the Cougars scored five runs in the third inning, including Jaxson Gochenours three-run homer to left field that erased the Vikings 6-1 lead, third-year Central coach Tyler Troyer needed to make a switch on the mound. In came Chesnut, who threw three scoreless innings, struck out two and walked three while gutting out an incredible seventh that secured the Vikings (1-3, 1-0) their first win.The right-hander put two runners in scoring position with no outs, prompting Troyer to visit the mound for a chat.He was just talking to me about keeping that same mentality Ive had and not letting the nerves get to me, Chesnut said. He was talking to me, saying, Youre the man. Were going to need you in the district championship, and this (situation) is no different. He said, Im the man, so be the man, and thats all I needed to hear.Central quickly recorded two outs, but East laid down a bunt that pushed home Alex Warrick to cut the deficit to one run.Brady Bush stepped into the box with the tying run in scoring position and worked a full count against Chesnut.A walk wouldve kept the Cougars alive. A hit likely wouldve tied the score. Instead, Chesnut struck out Bush and was instantly mobbed with hugs in front of Centrals dugout.Thats our guy, man, Troyer said. He came in last year in the West Bloomfield game, in a high-pressure situation, and didnt perform as well as he wanted and how we wanted. When I went out there, I just told him that hes our guy, hes our man. These are the situations we need him in this season, and we trust him to be in them.It didnt help that the Vikings put runners in scoring position in three straight innings without plating a single run to give Chesnut breathing room. A couple scores wouldve made pulling out the win easy. So, Chesnut had to put his team on his back. That just says everything about him, Troyer said. Hes cool, hes collected. I look over in the dugout, and hes always locked in and ready to go. I was a pitcher, too, so I know its tough, and it sucks, when you see so many guys in scoring position, and they dont come home. So thats a true testament to the work hes put in to get ready for this season. Im so proud of him, and Im putting Dylan Chesnut out there in that position 10 out of 10 times.More: Walled Lake Central baseball chasing 1st district title since 2011That also speaks to the work Chesnut has done with the Michigan Bulls travel team over the past year.He admitted it took months to get over letting his team down in last years district tournament, but he used it as motivation to improve over the summer and through fall training. He worked on everything, from mechanics to conditioning, knowing he had to be better for his team to pull out a gutsy win like the one against East.I was training maybe four or five days a week, getting my mind right because it was eating away at me for weeks, and I just couldnt get that loss out of my head, Chesnut said. I just had to get used to the fact that its over, and I had to grind my way into setting a new standard for this season. I knew I had to be better and knew I had to play the best I can every day.Added Troyer: Hes in a lot better shape, hes stronger and hes throwing better. Hes pounding the zone better. Really, his leadership and composure on the mound is what impresses me. Since I first saw him as a sophomore, hes grown so much, and Im so, so proud of him, and I love him to death. Its been his mindset that has really impressed me.Troyer said Chesnut played like a bulldog, just like the whole team did after East tied the score at 6. Justin Fenberg walked in a run, and Nick Shaws sacrifice fly brought home the winning score in the bottom of the third inning.Other Vikings contributing included Tyler Malczewski going 2 for 3 with two RBI and a double, Caden Buckley walking three times and Colton Sims making a game-saving tag at home plate in the sixth while also driving in a run.But it all started with Chesnut, who entered in relief, put his team on his back for its first win of the season and finally righted the wrong from losing to the Lakers in 2025.When were playing for a district championship in two months, hes going to be in the same spot, Troyer said. Today, it was him or nothing. And it will be in two months, too. We ride or die with Dylan Chesnut.Brandon Folsom covers high school sports in metro Detroit for Hometown Life. WWW.KSAT.COMConnor McDavid nets hat trick on 5-point night as Oilers surge into first place in Pacific DivisionThe best way for the Edmonton Oilers to shake off a tough loss was to let Connor McDavid take over the game. One night after his team squandered three separate leads in an overtime defeat at Utah, McDavid delivered the kind of performance Edmonton needed. He scored three goals for his 15th career hat trick and added two assists in a 5-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday that moved the Oilers into sole possession of first place in the Pacific Division. He knows our team needed a win, coach Kris Knoblauch said. Were playing a little short-handed and hes going to be the guy. Tonight every shift he was really dialed in and played extremely well. Ive seen him play a lot of good games and that was one of his best.McDavid was sharp right from the start, scoring a power-play goal on his third shift. He assisted on a power-play goal by Vasily Podkolzin late in the first period and then added two more goals and an assist on his first seven shifts of the second to put away the game. When McDavid is playing the way he did against the Sharks, the strategy for his teammates is simple.Get him the puck, Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard said. When you see him playing the way he was tonight, and honestly, most of the season, you want to get him the puck. He makes things happen when not many other people can. McDavid got the best of his matchup against his Canadian Olympic teammate and fellow Hart Trophy contender Macklin Celebrini, who scored on the power play to give San Jose a 1-0 lead.McDavid answered that goal less than two minutes later, and the Sharks couldn't slow him down the rest of the night. Hes the best player in the league and hes also the fastest so if you dont really slow him down or get in his way hes just going to skate by you, Celebrini said. Its simple as that. Youve seen it his whole career. I loved watching it when I was a fan but its super frustrating when you play against it. McDavid's 133 points this season are six more than Tampa Bay's Nikita Kucherov in the race for Art Ross Trophy and the second-most McDavid has had in a season to his 153 in 2022-23.He needs three goals in the final three games for his second career 50-goal season, although his focus remains on bigger goals. Edmonton is two points ahead of Vegas in the division race, but the Golden Knights have a game in hand. We've got to punch our ticket, McDavid said. We've got three games left. We've still got to punch our ticket to the playoffs. Those individual things are nice but not at the top of mind. After making back-to-back trips to the Stanley Cup Final the past two springs, the Oilers have sputtered their way through much of this season. But Edmonton has gone 6-1-1 over the past eight games to move into first place in the Pacific Division. With high-scoring teammate Leon Draisaitl possibly returning from injury for the start of the postseason, the Oilers are trying to get back into top form in time to make another deep run.Its been kind of an up-and-down year for us, honestly, McDavid said. We still feel like our best hockey is ahead of us. Were kind of finding it right now, which is a good time to do it.___AP NHL: https://apnews.com/hub/nhl0 Comments 0 Shares 12 Views 0 Reviews
