WWW.FOXSPORTS.COMInside The Garage: Kyle Larson Returns to Kansas, Site of Last Win 32 Races AgoHere's what's happening this week Inside The Garage: Bristol Motor Speedway (Bristol, Tenn.) Kyle Larson will return to Kansas Speedway this weekend, the site of his last race win nearly a year ago. Well, he has won something in that time. He won a championship. But not a race. In the world of NASCAR Cup Series racing, Larson heads to what should be a discouraging milestone. The highly talented, highly regarded driver has gone 32 races without a race win and returns to the track of his most recent victory. The fact he has had a triumph, though, has certainly mitigated any pain, as he won his second Cup title by finishing the best among the championship-eligible finalists in the 2025 season finale at Phoenix. [NASCAR TAKEAWAYS: Ty Gibbs Captures First Career Cup Victory] The Hendrick Motorsports driver also has had a combined six second-place and third-place finishes, including a third Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway where he led a race-high 284 laps. "Its kind of wild to think its been almost a year since Ive won because I don't feel like we're that bad," Larson said in a virtual news conference five days before Bristol. "Ultimately, celebrating the championship in Phoenix felt like a win in a lot of ways. "We want to get back to Victory Lane. We're working as hard as we ever have worked. We want to win. ... This series is tough. I know a lot of times we've made winning maybe look easy, but it's not. And I've never felt that it was easy. So weve just got to keep working at it." Considered one of the most talented drivers (Larson has 32 career Cup victories) no matter the car, Larson has won in sprint cars and other NASCAR series since his win last May at Kansas. So he has had that winning feeling after several races, not just the championship last November. His team, though, has not. "We're very aware that we haven't won on a Sunday. And yes, the championship is one thing, but we haven't taken the checkered flag in probably a calendar year by now," Larson crew chief Cliff Daniels told me after the Bristol race Sunday. "With our evolution of the team and probably being a little bit more seasoned in how we handle some of these things, I think, more than ever, now we know that we can't get emotional, get sad." Daniels was relatively upbeat Sunday after a race where Larson had a dominant car early. But as the track and conditions changed, he didnt have as strong a car. It was still a weekend that he and Larson could feel good about. "We executed great," Larson told me and other reporters after the race. "I thought our pit crew did an awesome job. ... The way I executed through lap traffic was good with a loose race car. "It could have been worse. And I felt like we made the most out of the day." Larson and Daniels have worked together since Larson joined Hendrick for the 2021 season. They won a championship right away with a 10-win season in 2021. They have won 14 races in the four-plus years since then, as NASCAR moved to the Next Gen car, which has created more parity. The team changed over-the-wall pit crew members last season and have had additional changes to the team for this season when it comes to the engineering staff. "[Daniels] is the most competitive person I know, so I'm sure it's killing him that we haven't won in almost a year now, but I feel like he's doing a good job of harnessing his emotions and keeping us all focused," Larson said. "Because I think if he let loose like maybe he would have if he was still the same Cliff as 2022, the guys would just be beat up and that's never a good thing. I'm super happy with Cliff and super happy with all of our team. It's just we haven't gotten the wins." Larson sits sixth in the Cup standings, certainly a position where he can win a championship from, especially if the team incrementally improves as it continues to learn the new Chevrolet body introduced this year. "We're reasonably solid to start the year," Daniels told me. "There's certainly areas that we can be better. ... You know, how do you eat an elephant? It's one bite at a time. "And our day will come, and our team is going to keep building and getting stronger, and that's the focus." Larson can get on board with that. "I feel like we're really close, like we could have won four to five races in this time span of not winning, maybe even more," Larson said. "It just hasn't happened. So we can't lose focus on the process and just keep working hard." No Talladega For McFarland NASCAR says it wants to see Cleetus McFarland at more short tracks in O'Reilly Series before granting approval for a 1.5-mile track (a higher speed track). So the YouTube star can't do Kansas this weekend to get approved for Talladega the following week. McFarland was hopeful that he could race Talladega based on finishing the Rockingham race on the 1-mile oval. But a few out-of-control moments were apparently a little too much for NASCAR to grant him approval to its top developmental series. McFarland remains approved for all tracks in the ARCA and truck series. "We're all huge Cleetus fans," NASCAR EVP John Probst said in a statement released by the sanctioning body. "We all watch his videos and are certainly very appreciative of everything he's done in our sport and will continue to do in our sport. ... We'd like to see more out of Cleetus in the short tracks. "So we're not saying no [forever], but there is more that we would like to see out of Cleetus before we would approve him for Talladega." McFarland said in a Facebook video post:"I've got a lot to learn ... It's a little bit of a kick in the nuts but I've just got to get out there in other cars and do as much learning as possible." In The News Andretti Global has confirmed it wont field a fourth car for the Indy 500, as Colton Herta cant do the race because Formula 2 has added an event at Montreal for that same weekend. So far, 31 Indy 500 rides have been announced. Abel Motorsports is expected to field car for Jacob Abel. One more Chevy and one more Honda are still possible but not definite. Talladegas first stage will be longer than the final two stages to try to mitigate the fuel-mileage incentives, with the tentative plan being a 98-lap first stage and 45-lap final two stages. The final two stages won't require a fuel stop. Joe Gibbs Racing still has a temporary restraining order keeping Chris Gabehart from performing similar duties from his former JGR competition director role in his new role as chief motorsports officer at Spire. A decision could come this week after the TRO was extended through Thursday. Front Row Motorsports did not appeal Chandler Smiths disqualification from the Rockingham truck race for being too low in post-race inspection. Smith rebounded with a second-place finish at Bristol to take over the points lead. INDYCAR drivers Alex Palou and Pato O'Ward participated in a Firestone tire test last Tuesday at Nashville Superspeedway. It was at Nashville that O'Ward had the lead and then a tire failure. Firestone developed a new right front for Phoenix based on that issue and this test built on what was learned from there. Legacy Motor Club has a new president: JGR Chief Operating Officer Michael Guttilla, who will report to Legacy CEO Cal Wells. Guttilla was a Multimatic engineer for decades and a vice president there before joining JGR in 2023. Legacy and JGR collaborate some as Toyota teams and JGR approved the move. Under The Radar Dawson Sutton slapped the wall in truck series practice at Bristol but rebounded to finish seventh in the race. The next day, he won the CARS Tour pro late model race at the Nashville Fairgrounds. Picture This Social Spotlight They Said It "I've got to tuck my tail and take it on the chin and move on. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMRohit Sharma undergoes scans for suspected hamstring injuryMUMBAI: Former India and Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has undergone a scan to assess the severity of a suspected hamstring injury, TOI has learnt. His availability for MIs next match against Punjab Kings on Thursday in Mumbai will depend on the results."Yes, Rohit underwent an MRI on Monday morning (at the HL Reliance Hospital) to determine the extent of his hamstring injury. If the results don't look good, he may even miss a couple of matches. The scan results will come by today evening," a source close to the developments told TOI.The 38-year-old retired hurt during MIs 18-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. He walked off in the sixth over after scoring 19 off 13 balls, including two fours and a six. Before retiring hurt, Rohit was attended by the MI physio before the first ball of that over. After a brief stoppage for treatment, he returned to face the next delivery, blocked it, and then left the field.Rohit has had hamstring concerns in the past. "I'm not entirely sure yet - perhaps it's a bit of a hamstring issue - but I can't say for certain. I was in the dugout, so I don't have much information on it," teammate Sherfane Rutherford said after the match.Rohit, who recently completed 15 years with MI, has scored 137 runs in four matches, including a half-century. His presence will be crucial for the side, who have lost three of their first four games.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 48 Views 0 Anteprima

WWW.GBNEWS.COMRory McIlroy explains why parents 'didn't want to come' to Masters after winning prestigious prizeRory McIlroy has revealed that his mother and father came close to staying away from Augusta National this year after they were absent when he clinched his historic career Grand Slam triumph 12 months ago.The Northern Irishman's parents, Rosie and Gerry, remained at home in Northern Ireland during last year's breakthrough victory but ultimately decided to make the journey to Georgia for his title defence."There was a piece of them that didn't want to come this year after not being here last year but I'm so glad they got to experience this today," McIlroy said.Their decision proved worthwhile as they watched their son secure his sixth major championship by a single stroke.TRENDINGStoriesVideosYour SayMcIlroy's final round proved far from straightforward as he battled through a turbulent Sunday at Augusta.Beginning the day level at the top of the leaderboard, he made an encouraging birdie at the third before disaster struck at the par-three fourth, where a three-putt resulted in a double-bogey.A further dropped shot at the fifth saw him lose more ground, but the 36-year-old responded with consecutive gains from the sixth hole.Back-to-back birdies from the 12th then propelled him three clear with five holes remaining. His closing round of one-under 71 proved sufficient to fend off Scottie Scheffler's weekend challenge and claim victory by a solitary stroke.McIlroy expressed astonishment at the timing of his Augusta success, having endured a lengthy wait before finally breaking through at the tournament.LATEST SPORTS NEWS:Rory McIlroy atones for Erica Stoll mistake after securing second Masters victoryTyson Fury set to lose millions in tax after bagging huge purse from Arslanbek Makhmudov victoryScottie Scheffler makes complaint after Rory McIlroy makes history with Masters triumph"I can't believe I waited 17 years to get one green jacket and now I get two in a row," he remarked in the Butler Cabin. The 36-year-old had completed the third leg of golf's Grand Slam back in 2014 but then suffered 10 unsuccessful attempts to capture the Masters, the sole major missing from his collection. His consecutive victories came in his 17th and 18th appearances at the famous Georgia venue."I think all of my perseverance at this golf tournament over the years has really started to pay off," McIlroy added.McIlroy acknowledged that triumphing at Augusta presents immense challenges regardless of the circumstances surrounding the victory."I thought it was so difficult to win last year because of trying to win The Masters and the Grand Slam, then this year I realised it's just really difficult to win The Masters," he admitted. The champion also reflected on building his winning position during the opening two days of competition."I obviously did the bulk of my work on Thursday and Friday. I don't think I would have believed anyone if they said to me all you have to do is shoot even-par for the weekend and you'll win," McIlroy explained."I definitely thought I was going to need to go out there and at least shoot a couple of under-par scores. I just had to hang in there."Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 39 Views 0 Anteprima -

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMAncient ocean mystery deepens as long-misidentified fossil is finally revealed by researchersMore than two decades after scientists identified a fossil as the world's oldest octopus officials now say it wasn't one at all.A recent study published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B found that the fossil Pohlsepia mazonensis a 300-million-year-old sea creature found in the Mazon Creek fossil beds of northeastern Illinois was closer to a nautilus than an octopus.Researchers now believe the creature was a relative of the nautilus, which is a shell-covered cephalopod with tentacles.NEW 'HELL HERON' SPINOSAURUS SPECIES FOUND IN REMOTE SAHARA 70 YEARS AFTER FOSSIL CLUECephalopods are a class of marine animals that includes octopuses, squids and cuttlefish, and are known for their tentacles and advanced nervous systems and for lacking rigid skeletons. The fossil was identified as the world's oldest octopus in 2000 but is now considered the oldest soft-tissue nautilus in the world.University of Reading zoologist Thomas Clements, the lead researcher of the new study, told The Associated Press the fossil is a "very difficult [one] to interpret."He added, "To look at it, it kind of just looks like a white mush."ARCHAEOLOGISTS FIND ARTIFACTS OLDER THAN STONEHENGE BENEATH BRITAIN'S HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT: 'INCREDIBLY RARE'"If you look at it, and you are a cephalopod researcher, and youre interested in everything octopus, it does superficially look a lot like a deep-water octopus."The determining factor, Clements said, was its teeth which researchers examined using a synchrotron to peer inside the fossil. They found that each row had 11 teeth more than the seven or nine typically found in octopuses.TEST YOURSELF WITH OUR LATEST LIFESTYLE QUIZ"This has too many teeth, so it cant be an octopus," Clements said."And thats how we realized that the worlds oldest octopus is actually a fossil nautilus, not an octopus."The fossil had the same teeth as a nautiloid called Paleocadmus pohli, an ancient creature found in the same area.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTERResearchers say the mix-up likely occurred because the creature decomposed and lost its shell before it was fossilized. The next oldest-known octopus fossil is about 90 million years old around 210 million years younger than the fossil Pohlsepia mazonensis."Its a huge gap," Clements said, noting it had long raised questions.CLICK HERE FOR MORE LIFESTYLE STORIES"And so that big gap got researchers sort of questioning, Is this thing actually an octopus?'"The fossil is currently held in the Field Museum in Chicago.Paul Mayer, who manages the museum's fossil invertebrate collections, said he was "a little surprised" by the new classification, but acknowledged that scientists have questioned the finding for years."People have been questioning whether it was an octopus ever since the original paper was first published in 2000," Mayer told the AP.He added that the news "is great for our collections, and hopefully new discoveries will be made and new stories will be revealed."The Associated Press contributed reporting.0 Commenti 0 condivisioni 43 Views 0 Anteprima
