Guardians Rookie Parker Messick Loses No-Hitter in the 9th Inning
Cleveland Guardians rookie Parker Messick lost his no-hitter on the first batter in the top of the ninth inning. Baltimore Orioles outfielder Leody Taveras knocked a single into right field to spoil Messick's bid. He carried the no-hitter through eight innings, in which Messick walked two batters and matched a career high with nine strikeouts. Messick was pulled from the game after allowing another hit to shortstop Blaze Alexander, and was ultimately tagged with two earned runs when relief pitcher Cade Smith allowed RBIs to Gunnar Henderson and Pete Alonso. Messick came close to throwing the first no-hitter in the majors since Sept. 4, 2024, when Shota Imanaga and two Chicago Cubs relievers combined to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-0, and the first no-hitter for Cleveland's organization since Len Barkers perfect game on May 15, 1981, against the Toronto Blue Jays. Cleveland has the majors longest current gap between no-hitters. Carlos Carrasco went 8 2/3 innings against Tampa Bay on July 1, 2015, and Gavin Williams had a no-hitter for 8 1/3 innings last season on Aug. 6 against the New York Mets. Carrasco came within one strike of a no-hitter when Rays left fielder Joey Butler lined a slider on an 0-2 count that just eluded the glove of leaping Cleveland second baseman Jason Kipnis. Juan Soto broke up Williams no-hit bid with a home run to center. Messick faced one batter more than the minimum. He walked leadoff hitter Taylor Ward before retiring the next 15 batters. Ward hit a deep flyball to center field in the third inning that Steven Kwan caught at the wall, and Jose Ramirez made a nice stop on a grounder by Coby Mayo deep in the hole at third to end the fifth. Messick walked Taveras leading off the sixth, but Ward grounded into a double play to end the inning. Ramrez also made a terrific grab in foul territory to retire Samuel Basallo leading off the eighth. This was just Messick's 11th career start at the major league level. He was the 54th overall pick in the 2022 amateur draft out of Florida State and made his big league debut last year. Messick came into the game with a 5-1 career mark and a 2.04 ERA. He was 2-0 with a 0.51 ERA in his first three starts this season. The Guardians backed up Messick with Ramrez's two-run homer in the first and RBI singles by Kwan in the fifth and George Valera in the sixth. The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Lindsey Heaps Returns to Colorado with USWNT Ahead of Summit NWSL Debut
Lindsey Heaps Returns to Colorado with USWNT Ahead of Summit NWSL DebutThe National Womens Soccer League (NWSL) last week announced the top-selling jerseys a month into the 2026 season. Topping the list was Washington Spirit forward Trinity Rodman, but right behind was her U.S. Womens National Team teammate Lindsey Heaps, who has not played NWSL minutes since 2021.Heaps, a Golden, Colorado native, signed with expansion club Denver Summit FC in January and will join the team this summer after she finishes her final season in France with OL Lyonnes. Heaps will have the special opportunity to compete at her future home stadium for the first time since her return to the NWSL was announced as the USA faces Japan at DICKS Sporting Goods Park on April 17 at 7 p.m. MT.I saw the jersey sales come out, which was really special, Heaps told media on Thursday. I'm so thankful. I'm not even here yet, and for us to have that as a club is so cool. I hope I get to see some of those out in the crowd (tomorrow).Heaps has spent the last five years with OL Lyonnes, the reigning champion of the French Premire Ligue. She said while finishing the season strong there has been her main priority, she has frequently spoke with Denvers staff and followed the start of the inaugural season.Returning to her home state and playing in front of her friends and family she has doled out upwards of 50 tickets to friends and family for the Japan match is one of the main reasons the 31-year-old signed with the Summit. Heaps reflected on the start of her soccer career and how Colorado helped get her to where she is now.Seeing all the little girls, how much they enjoy coming and watching us play, Heaps said, I think back to me when I was that young individual growing up here, going out and training three, four times a day here in Colorado. I wasn't this talented, super athletic player. I had to work on it, but it was because I loved it so much.Heaps signing with the Summit was personal, but according to USWNT head coach Emma Hayes, the move also represents something larger for the Summit and the NWSL.Bringing the U.S. Womens National Team captain back from a top European team to her home market demonstrates that players are choosing to come to the NWSL, Hayes said. She will bring a level of professionalism from years of being a top pro. Lindseys no passenger, ever. Shes so ultra competitive. She will drive that team as leader in the way she does every day.The Summit has already produced a seminal moment for U.S. Soccer off the pitch. In its home opener, 63,004 fans filled Empower Field at Mile High, smashing the NWSL attendance record by over 20,000. USWNT forward and Windsor, Colo., native Sophia Wilson said she was not surprised by the record-breaking crowd and was glad the country saw what Colorado has to offer. This city has always been a women's sports city, they just needed a team to come support," Wilson said. I hope that amount of people keeps showing up throughout the whole season. It's just great for women's soccer all over.Heaps and Wilson return to their home state with the USWNT for the first time since June 2024. The 4-0 win over Korea Republic in front of a sold-out crowd was one of the last matches before they won gold at the Paris Olympics and the first with Hayes as the head coach. When reflecting on that match, Hayes said she remembered her nerves, the heat and the intensity of the crowd.Literally and figuratively, it was so hot, Hayes said. I remember walking out and thinking, God, this is how I want soccer to feel in this country. The USWNT will hopefully get to experience a similar crowd in its return to Denver that captures both the past and the future of the game. It will bring players back to where their journeys began, while showcasing a city that has become a cornerstone of womens soccer in the United States.

2025-26 NBA Playoff Betting Report: Bettors Iffy on 'Banged-Up Lakers'
Bookmakers in Vegas and across the nation have the same conundrum every year when it comes to NBA playoff odds: They want the Lakers to be good but not too good. Win a series or two, maybe three, and preferably in six or seven games each time. Then get out of the way. So as the playoffs commence Saturday, a banged-up Lakers outfit isnt necessarily ideal. "The goal is for the Lakers to be around long enough to keep bettors involved but not win the championship. Its always a little bit of a sweat," Caesars Sports pro basketball lead David Lieberman said. "But injuries have hampered bettors expectations." Lieberman helps break down how NBA playoff odds are being bet so far, ahead of the Saturday and Sunday first-round tip-offs. This page may contain affiliate links to legal sports betting partners. If you sign up or place a wager, FOX Sports may be compensated. Read more about Sports Betting on FOX Sports. Home Underdog From Feb. 28-March 31, the Lakers went on a 16-2 run straight up (SU), while going 13-5 against the spread (ATS). Los Angeles significantly improved its playoff prospects, nearly catching Denver for the 3-seed in the Western Conference. The Lakers (53-29 SU/45-36-1 ATS) ended up No. 4, so they at least have home-court advantage against the No. 5 Rockets (52-30 SU/36-46 ATS). What the Lakers dont have: Luka Doni and Austin Reaves. Both players were injured in a blowout 139-96 loss at Oklahoma City on April 2. Doni (hamstring) and Reaves (oblique) could miss all of the first round. Oddsmakers responded by making Houston a hefty -600 favorite in NBA first-round series odds, with the Lakers a +435 underdog. In other words, L.A. isnt expected to survive the first round. In fact, LeBron James & Co. are 5.5-point home underdogs in Game 1, at 8:30 p.m. ET Saturday. "The Lakers are such a popular team, and they were playing well. Wed taken a lot of action on the futures," Lieberman said. "Its a little unfortunate. Were not seeing as much Lakers action as we otherwise would." But if you feel like James can carry L.A. through the injuries, maybe the Lakers are worth a shot in the series. A $100 bet would net $435 profit (total payout $535), if Los Angeles can pull off the upset. Ones To Watch With Rockets-Lakers losing some luster, Lieberman pointed to two series that are more intriguing in NBA playoff odds: No. 6 Timberwolves vs. No. 3 Nuggets in the West and No. 6 Hawks vs. No. 3 Knicks in the East. "Those might be two of the better series," Lieberman said. "Nuggets-Timberwolves should be highly competitive. And I think the Hawks have enough to give the Knicks a scare." Denver (54-28 SU/44-38 ATS) and Minnesota (49-33 SU/37-45 ATS) open with a 3:30 p.m. ET start on Saturday. Two years ago, the Timberwolves knocked out the defending champion Nuggets in a second-round series, winning Game 7 on the road. This year, Denver is a -340 favorite to win the series, with Minnesota +265. The Nuggets are 6-point favorites in Game 1. New York (53-29 SU/42-39-1 ATS) is a -275 favorite to beat Atlanta (46-36 SU/44-38 ATS) in their series. The Knicks are 5.5-point favorites in Game 1, a 6 p.m. ET tip-off Saturday. The Hawks lost three of their last four regular-season games, but that was after a stout 18-2 SU/16-4 ATS run. Hence Liebermans semi-optimism toward Atlanta in this first-round matchup. "That series might go longer than people think," he said. Seeing Into The Futures The Spurs are arguably the hottest team in the NBA at the moment. From Feb. 1-April 2, San Antonio put together two 11-game win streaks as part of a torrid 27-2 SU overall run (17-11-1 ATS). Preseason, you could get the Spurs at +5000 or more in odds to win the NBA Finals. So a $100 bet would stand to profit $5,000. Now, the Spurs are all the way up to the No. 2 choice, at +415 in NBA championship odds, trailing only defending champion Oklahoma City (+125). San Antonio finished the regular season at 62-20 SU, again behind only the Thunder (64-20 SU). "People have been on the Spurs bus for a long time now, probably as early as November, on a game-to-game basis and definitely on the futures," Lieberman said. "The Spurs are not a good [championship] result for us. Theyre the biggest realistic liability." Its worth pointing out that San Antonio won four of five meetings vs. OKC this season. "The Spurs kind of had the Thunders number. If thats their biggest obstacle, I could see them getting to the NBA Finals," Lieberman said. No. 2 seed San Antonio meets No. 7 seed Portland in the first round, with the Spurs massive -2000 favorites in NBA series odds. Detroit is also a championship liability at Caesars. The Pistons (60-22 SU/44-37-1 ATS) nabbed the No. 1 seed in the East and a date with either the Hornets or Magic in the first round. Despite that top seed, Detroit is the fifth choice in Caesars NBA Finals odds at +1600, trailing aforementioned OKC and San Antonio, as well as Boston (+550) and Denver (+850). Caesars has a host of solid teams that its rooting for to lift the trophy. "Most of the shorter-odds teams are good for us," Lieberman said, noting even a repeat OKC title is fine. "The Thunder are usually a good result for us because of having shorter odds. Its harder for liability to pile up."

Naphessa Collier reportedly returning to Minnesota Lynx in free agency
Napheesa Collier reportedly agreed to terms with the Minnesota Lynx on a one-year, $1.4 million contract, according to ESPNs Kendra Andrews.Collier returns to Minnesota with championship aspirations, after the team flamed out of the semifinals last fall despite being the No. 1 team all season. The supermax contract comes after Collier, as one of the vice presidents of the Womens National Basketball Players Association, helped negotiate the new collective bargaining agreement. She was outspoken at the end of last season, calling out the WNBA and commissioner Cathy Engelbert for failing to address issues such as compensation, officiating and the state of overall play during her exit interview. She received support from players across the league. She is also a co-founder of Unrivaled, along with Breanna Stewart, which has given players a stateside option for offseason play to supplement their WNBA salaries. As Collier has fought for higher salaries over the last year, she continues to be one of the best players in the league. She averaged 22.9 points per game last season, which ranked second behind Aces star Aja Wilson. Collier is also a five-time WNBA All-Star, a four-time All-WNBA selection and has won both Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year.Collier is expected to miss the start of the season after undergoing ankle surgery on both ankles following injuries suffered in Game 3 of the WNBA semifinals against the Mercury.Collier was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx with the No. 6 pick in the 2019 WNBA Draft out of UConn.
