WWW.KSAT.COMLiam Rosenior fired as Chelsea manager after dreadful run and less than 4 months in jobLiam Rosenior has been fired as Chelsea manager after a desperate Premier League run of five losses without scoring a goal. Chelsea confirmed his departure on Wednesday, less than four months into the job and just four days before it plays in an FA Cup semifinal at Wembley. Assistant Calum McFarlane will take charge on an interim basis until the end of the season. This has not been a decision the club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season, Chelsea said in a statement. The team that won the Club World Cup last year now looks likely to miss out on next seasons Champions League. That would mean a huge financial hit for a club that has spent billions of dollars under U.S. owners Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly. The five-game losing streak is its worst since 1912 the same year the Titanic sank.Tuesdays 3-0 defeat to Brighton proved the last straw for Rosenior, an inexperienced coach at the highest level who was hired from Chelseas sister club Strasbourg in January. It was a seventh loss in eight games in all competitions. Chelsea has won one of its last nine in the league, is seventh in the standings and seven points adrift of the top five, who all qualify for the Champions League. Rosenior, 41, turned on his players following the Brighton match, saying the performance was indefensible and that something needs to change drastically. The clubs hierarchy clearly agreed, despite saying Rosenior had always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism.Rosenior replaced Club World Cup-winning coach Enzo Maresca in January and only took charge of 23 games. He started impressively with a run of six wins in seven games, but things unravelled quickly in recent weeks, including elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain. His tenure was brought to an end despite Chelsea preparing for its FA Cup semifinal against Leeds on Sunday.Rosenior becomes the fifth permanent manager to lose his job since Clearlake and Boehly bought one of English soccers most storied clubs in 2022. Now the search is on for a sixth to try to bring sustained success. As the club works to bring stability to the head coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment, Chelsea said. Roseniors departure comes after fans of the two-time Champions League winner and six-time English champion began to protest against the U.S. owners. While there have been trophies, the Club World Cup and Europa Conference League last season, this could be the third campaign out of four in which it has failed to qualify for the Champions League. Under former owner Roman Abramovich, Chelsea was one of the most dominant teams in Europe, winning a full set of trophies, including two Champions Leagues and five Premier League titles. It last won the Champions League in 2021, the year before Abramovich was forced to sell the club after being sanctioned by the British government in the wake of Russias war with Ukraine. ___James Robson is at https://x.com/jamesalanrobson___AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 36 Visualizações 0 Anterior -

WWW.GBNEWS.COMJudd Trump explains UK snub amid quest for World Snooker Championship gloryJudd Trump has explained why he snubbed the UK and moved to Dubai as the world number one chases glory at the Crucible. The 36-year-old, who relocated to the Middle East several years ago, spent a month in Thailand after the United States (US)- and Israeli-led war with Iran began but has since returned to his base in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).Trump, who won his first round clash 10-5 against Gary Wilson, made clear he has no intention of moving back to Britain."I won't be coming back to the UK," the world number one said.TRENDINGStoriesVideosYour Say"Maybe I'll go somewhere else, but I definitely won't be coming back to the UK anytime soon. Dubai is still my base."Once his Crucible campaign concludes, Trump plans to fly straight back rather than visiting family in Bristol. The UAE was caught up in a precarious position with Iranian bombs falling on the region and forcing tourists and residents alike to evacuate.Trump found himself without a home for several weeks as a result of the crisis, having to relocate to Thailand immediately after competing at the World Open in China.LATEST SPORTS NEWSChelsea hierarchy holding crunch talks over Liam Rosenior's future after Brighton disasterLiv Golf row erupts as players slam controversial rumours about Bryson DeChambeauShaun Murphy demands answers from World Snooker Championship staff after controversial incident"It was a little bit difficult (when the war started). I had to stay in Thailand for a month," he explained.Despite the upheaval, Trump confirmed he has managed to prepare adequately for snooker's showpiece event at the Crucible. He said: "I've managed to practise for the World Championship. It's been more back to normal."The 36-year-old acknowledged his season has been characterised by disruption beyond the recent conflict, describing it as "stop-start" due to various off-table complications. His younger brother, Jack, who has joined him in Dubai, faced significant visa issues that prevented him from entering the country until January.Trump said: "At the start of the season, up until January, my brother wasn't able to come in. So I wasn't able to practise."So I wasn't able to practise, and after that kind of period, I've been a lot more consistent and reached a lot of semi-finals and finals."So, yeah, it's been a strange season. A lot more going off the table than I've ever had really, but it's still been decent."Trump and Ronnie O'Sullivan were both absent from the traditional media day at the Crucible before the championships got underway.Former world champion Shaun Murphy criticised both O'Sullivan and Trump for their absence from the event. When asked whether the no-shows could damage the image of snooker, Murphy responded: "I don't know about image problem. I think it might give those two a particular image problem. I think it might affect their image slightly."Once the public tag onto that themselves and realise that two of the biggest stars of the game weren't here for opening day, when everyone else has made the effort to be here... listen, it's a strange one. I don't know why they're not here. Their own decisions, aren't they?"I've got no idea, but none of us are shocked by it. It would be more strange for us if they were here, which is saying something. It's a real shame... and they probably could both have done a little bit more to help promote the game over the years."Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 52 Visualizações 0 Anterior -
