USA Women Will Head To Brazil For Pair Of Matches In June
The U.S. women's national team will play Brazil in a pair of matches in June at venues in Sao Paulo and Fortaleza that will host Women's World Cup games in 2027. It is the first time the United States will play the Brazilians on their home soil since 2014. The two teams will play at Sao Paulo's Neo Qumica Arena on June 6 and then at Fortaleza's Arena Castelo on June 9. "We want to play the best teams in the most difficult environments at venues across the world as often as we can, and these two games check all those boxes," U.S. coach Emma Hayes said in a statement Thursday. "We need more games in which every fan in the stadium is cheering loudly against us and Im looking forward seeing how our team performs and grows in these adverse conditions." The U.S. under-23 women's team will travel along with the senior team and play Brazilian club teams in Sao Paulo. The United States has played Brazil six times in the South American nation, going 2-2-2. The Americans played in Brazil at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics but did not face the hosts. The U.S. and Brazil last met twice in April 2025 in the United States, with the Americans winning 2-0 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, then falling 2-1 at PayPal Park in San Jose, California. The United States defeated Brazil 1-0 for the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Overall, the U.S. is 34-4-5 against Brazil. Hayes continues to prepare the team for World Cup qualifying at the CONCACAF W Championship starting in late November. Reporting by The Associated Press

Is Tom Dundon the Villain Portland Trail Blazers Fans Need?
In the Rip City Rising Ownership Groups introductory press conference, majority owner Tom Dundon said, in reference to rumors about him moving the team, Youre welcome to write what you want because if we get attention for the Portland Trail Blazers, I appreciate it.Dundon must be extremely grateful then for all the headlines his antics have generated since taking over the team. The list of spending-related cuts Tom Dundon has amassed in less than a month, since he took over the Blazers, is lengthy, to say the least. NBA fans typically pay no mind to hotel checkouts, masseuses, or even whether or not two-way players are on the bench during the playoffs. But because he enacted multiple of these frugal measures at once, while the team is in the middle of a dream playoff appearance its first in five seasons Dundon has created a perfect media storm of disgrace. Not only are news stories rampant, but the jokes are top-of-the-line as well.Dundon realizing that stealing game 2 means having to pay for another trip to San Antonio for game 5 #RipCitypic.twitter.com/vyCZ7AQPVX Alex Barnes (@ABarnesandnoble) April 22, 2026Through this mess, Dundon has turned himself into an early villain. Blazer fans disdain for his shenanigans is running rampant in chats and comment sections.Thankfully, as the team keeps winning, that disdain has not spilled out onto the court. In fact, its actually united the Blazers fanbase in a way.Portland Gear Appeases Tom Dundons T-Shirt TravestyOf the list of cost-cutting measures, nothing has irked sports fans, not just Blazer fans, more than when President Dewayne Hankins came out publicly and said that the team would not be providing attendees free t-shirts for Game 3 of their series against the Spurs. In response to the vitriol on Twitter, minority owner Sheel Tyle, perceived in the early stages of ownership as the good cop to Dundons bad cop, alluded to a different giveaway that fans will receive.Rip City, you wont wear this one. But youll make sure everyone sees it. Moda will be rocking Friday night. LFG @trailblazers Sheel Tyle (@sheeltyle) April 17, 2026Friday night will determine whether or not the new gift will live up to the mighty standard of a t-shirt. However, one company has decided it would not stand idle and watch a cohort of excited Blazer fans be deprived of a t-shirt.Portland Gear, a now-national brand founded by Portland native Marcus Harvey, has taken on the challenge of providing fans who can show proof of a ticket to Game 3 with a free shirt.I love Portland, said Harvey when asked why he wanted to enact this giveaway. Ive just been a Blazer fan and a Rip City fan my whole life and, I dont know, [its] a little moment to show some love to the city that helped make us.View this post on InstagramWhile Harvey could only make a few hundred shirts, not enough for the nearly 20,000 people who will be in attendance, his ability to capitalize on the opportunity Blazers ownership opened was met with resounding praise and admiration.Fans lined up outside the Portland Gear store in downtown Portland as early as 7:30 am to be one of the 200 to receive a shirt. They Love Me, They Love Me Not Tiago SplitterDespite being thrown into the fire from the second game of the season on, bringing Portland to the playoffs and now into a tied series against the Spurs, Tom Dundon has reportedly been searching the market for potential head coaches, including ones who would take abnormally minuscule salaries.Jake Fischer on the Blazers' head coaching position: "The consistent word for weeks about new Blazers owner Tom Dundon is his apparent desire to pay no more than $1.5 million annually for a new head coach. That's well below the current NBA standard even for a first-time pic.twitter.com/6sgwyvxv2l Blazers Lead (@BlazersLead) April 18, 2026While the news reports have caused a frenzy in media circles, what Dundon is doing is exactly what Blazer fans were begging for not even two months ago.Blazer fans did not regard Tiago Splitter as a good head coach over the course of this year. All over social media, they blamed him for several losses and asked for the Blazers to move on from him at the end of the season. The Blazers giving up 150 tonight when you have these defensive players on your team is just embarrassing. Donovan Clingan Toumani Camara Jrue Holiday Jerami Grant Robert Williams Matisse Thybulle Blake WesleyTiago Splitter cannot return next season if the pic.twitter.com/MxBQ0OVEIQ (@shaesharpeshow) February 21, 2026Now, its blasphemous to think that he hasnt earned an opportunity to coach the team moving forward. The Blazers end-of-season success has obviously been the biggest help to his credibility, but by undermining this playoff run, Dundon has galvanized the Blazers fanbase into Splitters good graces. The thought of trading Splitter in for a less experienced coach on a pennies-on-the-dollar salary is ludicrous. Whether its through purposeful positioning or accidental ignorance, Dundon has made Splitter the de facto best option for next season, and Blazer fans are now behind the Brazilian through and through. We're going to give Dundon enough credit to assume that he doesn't actually think offering Tiago such a small salary that he leaves is smartHe's doing all of this as positioning so he can pay Splitter as little as possible and all of us will be happy about it in the end pic.twitter.com/uWZlygBEEX blazers are cool (@blazersRcoolPod) April 20, 2026Splitter has dispelled any notion that Dundons antics have crept into the locker room. If anything, its likely strengthened their bond. The players have dedicated themselves to each other and to Splitter all season. There is very little doubt that they wont fight tooth and nail to keep him with the team next season. If Tom Dundon is the villain in this story, Tiago Splitter can become the hero.Blazer Fans Wanted Jody Allen Gone and Got Their WishThe only thing that Blazer fans agreed on when it came to the teams previous owner, Jody Allen, who took over for her brother Paul Allen and ran the team for seven years, was the fact that she lived in the shadows. Her lethargy spilled over into the fanbase. In a stretch of years mired by purposeful tanking and the pushing out of franchise pillar Damian Lillard, culminating in an FBI raid at the house of Chauncey Billups, no one really knew what to think about the Blazers.Four years of tanking had left the franchise in a boring state. The casual Blazer fan didnt really exist. The only ones consistently watching the team were diehards. In comes Tom Dundon, and a wave of excitement pours over the fanbase. We finally have an owner who CARES, some said. This guy wants to WIN, said others. Look at how good the Carolina Hurricanes are, everyone noted. Now, just a few short weeks later, fans are seeing the dark side of Dundons no-waste ways. While few fans want to see their billionaire owner slash spending on the margins, whats undeniable is that everyone is talking about him.The Portland Trail Blazers have been a part of very few headlines the past four years. Its always an uphill battle to keep the lone team in the Pacific Northwest relevant, and their standing in the league had done them no favors on that front. Now? Theyre a hot commodity in the headlines and on podcasts. It isnt for the right reasons, but just ask Tom Dundon hell tell you that doesnt matter. What matters is winning, and right now the Blazers are doing that too.We Are All Allies in the Fight Against Tom DundonThanks to Tom Dundon, Blazer fans, for the first time in a long time, have things they can all agree on.We all want t-shirts. We all want Tiago Splitter (if the alternative is the Saint Louis University coach). We all want Caleb Love on the bench. We all want late checkouts. If the team shows Dundon on the jumbotron during Game 3, fans will likely boo him. Less than four weeks into his tenure, thats the reality Dundon has created. But unlike the murmuring boos that Chauncey Billups received throughout his career, these will be fun, fresh, laughable boos. Boos everyone will understand. Boos that everyone can get behind.Dundon has made it clear in his stints as an owner, with both Portland and Carolina, that winning trumps everything. He said in his introductory press conference that he cares about being liked, but that its lower on the list of things he cares about. If Tom Dundon ends up being the scapegoat that galvanizes Rip City and re-ignites this fanbase, which has been dormant for half a decade, so long as the team is winning, my guess is hell wear that badge with pride. The post Is Tom Dundon the Villain Portland Trail Blazers Fans Need? appeared first on The Lead.

Will Christian Pulisic's Goal Drought End Against Weston McKennie And Juventus?
In 2022, Christian Pulisic never looked happier. The U.S. national team headliner was sat at a podium in a tent next to the Americans' training base in Qatar basking in the glory of his first World Cup goal a game winner against Iran that sent the Americans to the round of 16. Normally almost painfully reserved, Pulisic was all smiles as he joked with reporters in the room. The contrast was stark a few days later, when a devastated Pulisic, with tears in his eyes and his voice barley above a whisper, blamed himself for missing a potentially outcome-altering chance early against the Netherlands before the U.S. was eliminated by the powerful Dutch. Like many elite soccer players, Pulisic is streaky. When hes up, hes the most dynamic attacking player the country has ever produced, a truly world-class talent who can win matches at the highest level all by himself. When hes down right now, the 27-year-old is mired in a 17-game goalless streak for the U.S. and Italian club AC Milan Pulisic is a shell of his best self. Pulisic was at the height of his powers earlier this season when, despite playing mostly as a winger or play-making midfielder, he had the best goals-to-minutes ratio of any player in Serie A. His current drought isnt even the longest of his career. He went 21 games between goals with Chelsea in 2020-21 but ended the season in triumph, scoring against Real Madrid in the Champions League semifinals as the Blues went on to win Europes most coveted trophy. The following year, his last in London, Pulisic didnt score in his final 20 appearances. "Like, I know a ball will hit off my knee and go in and then things will change," Pulisic said in Atlanta last month after a 5-2 loss to Belgium in a World Cup warmup. "Im not gonna panic. Better now than in the summer. Things are going to change." They havent in his four games since. May is just around the corner. Summer will be here in a flash. Fun as it is to dig into the weeds and argue about wholl be the 25th or 26th player on Mauricio Pochettinos World Cup roster, how far the tournament co-hosts go on home soil hinges on the performance of its best players, Pulisic chief among them. His next chance comes on Sunday, when the Rossoneri welcome rivals Juventus and fellow USA star Weston McKennie to the San Siro. For Pulisic, Pochettino and U.S. fans, his next goal cant arrive soon enough. With just over a month to go until Pochettino drops the Americans' World Cup squad, heres how other roster hopefuls are faring with their clubs. Stock Up The 25-year-old speedsters career season continued on Wednesday, when he went 84 minutes in Leeds 2-2 Premier League tie with Bournemouth. (Tyler Adams was a second-half sub for the Cherries.) Aaronson notched his fifth assist of the campaign the game prior, a 3-0 victory over Wolves. He and Leeds next face Chelsea in Sundays FA Cup semifinal. With 10 goals in his last 10 contests at club level, Balogun is in the form of his life right now.Hes also scored in eight straight games in Frances top division, putting him just one away from tying the Ligue 1 record. U.S. teammate Mark McKenzie will try to prevent that, as Balogun & Co. head to Toulouse this weekend. Johnny played all 90 minutes of Wednesdays 3-2 loss to Elche, just the fifth time since joining Atleti last summer that hes gone the distance for Diego Simeones side. With their Champions League semifinal first leg against Arsenal looming next week, dont be surprised if Simeone goes right back to Cardoso when Athletic Bilbao visits the Spanish capital on Saturday. Dest wasnt in uniform for the Dutch champs match versus Zwolle on Thursday, but the 2022 World Cup vet insisted this week that hell soon return from the hamstring issue that has sidelined him since March 7. "Im almost back," Dest said with the 2026 event now in sight. "Im gonna be there. I'm gonna be fine." PSV coach Peter Bosz said Dest should return before the Eredivisie season ends on May 17. The Dutch champs have three more games after Thursday, including Sundays trip to historic nemesis Ajax. Somebody asked me this week if Dike, in the wake of Patrick Agyemangs Achilles tear, has any chance of sneaking onto the World Cup squad. I said no. But with two goals in his last two outings for the Baggies, the Oklahoma-born target man is clearly heating up. West Brom hosts Ipswich on Saturday. The little playmaker made it two straight games with a goal last Saturday, the second in his first start of 2026 for RSL. In Wednesday's 2-0 loss to Lionel Messis Inter Miami, Luna went all 90 minutes for the first time this campaign. On Wednesday, the lanky Texan celebrated his 13th league start with two goals, his 15th and 16th across all competitions this season for PSV, in a 6-1 trouncing of Zwolle. He now has 13 in the Netherlands top flight, a new career high for Pepi. Roldan followed up on his two assists in Seattles Concacaf Champions Cup win over Mexican power Tigres on April 15 with two goals in the Sounders 4-1 drubbing of St. Louis three days later. Hes surely headed to a second straight World Cup, though dont tell him that. "I don't see myself as a lock by any means," Roldan said postgame. "I have to keep performing here with the Sounders to give myself the best chance." What a week for Wright, who celebrated the Sky Blues promotion to the Premier League last Friday, then scored his 17th goal of the Championship campaign on Tuesday as Coventry officially clinched the second division title with a 5-1 win over Portsmouth. Stock Down Horrible news out of Italy where the 29-year-old son of former U.S. coach Jrgen Klinsmann suffered a broken neck in a second-tier match against Palermo last weekend. He underwent surgery in Germany on Wednesday, ruling him out for the rest of the season and ending whatever chance he had of making the World Cup roster. The uncapped Klinsmann, called up twice by Pochettino last fall, was not included on the coachs most recent roster. Since scoring against Wolfsburg in a late cameo off the bench back on April 4, Tillman has logged just 16 minutes over Leverkusens next three games, including Wednesdays 2-0 German Cup semifinal loss to Bayern Munich. Now Bild is reporting that the German-born Tillman could be on the move just a year after returning to the Bundesliga, with Premier League Brentford and Fulham among the potential landing spots. The 23-year-old has eight goals and one assist in 38 appearances across all competitions this season for Die Schwarzroten, who face Cologne on Saturday. A groin injury forced the 38-year-old to leave last Saturdays 2-1 loss to NYCFC at halftime, and the same ailment kept Ream out of Wednesday's 4-1 defeat at Orlando City. Its hard to imagine the veteran center back returning when Crowns road trip continues in Nashville on Saturday. After that, hell have just sixmore matches remaining before the national teams pre-World Cup training camp opens in the Atlanta area on May 27. Musahs nightmare stay in Bergamo is mercifully almost over, with Italys Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that Atalanta will not exercise its option to buy Musah from AC Milan following his season-long loan. Musah, a World Cup starter in 2022 who would need a miracle even to crack Pochs 26, has gone unused in four of the clubs last five Serie A games. Where the 23-year-old lands next is anyones guess; hes not in Milans plans either, per Gazzettas report. The towering center back has made just one 64-minute appearance for FCC since sustaining the groin injury that prevented him from playing against Portugal and Belgium last month. Robinson didnt dress for Wednesdays 4-4 tie with NYCFC with what was listed as a leg injury. Cincy hosts Michael Bradleys New York Red Bulls on Saturday.
