He did, after all, have over a decade of experience as a respected reporter before his turn as a professional instigator on television. But his hatred of James has become his calling card. So, it should come as no surprise that Bayless ranks James as the No. 9 best player in NBA history. On most lists, James slots in at second, behind Michael Jordan. Sure, some folks could put James lower on that list, but putting him at nine gives off some Im trying to get some attention with this take energy. Which, again, this is Bayless thing. Its the reason First Take blossomed into what its become. Bayless and Smith have a knack for producing viral takes and using those to build fan engagement and fuel their next viral take. Whether or not youre a fan of the ouroboros-like nature of their style, the pair did for better or worse redefine the sports-debate show. Given all of that, Bayless slander of James was hardly the only inflammatory clip to come out of Fridays First Take appearance. Bayless found a way to hate on Luka Doni despite him not playing during the playoffs and shared a urine-inspired nickname for Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George. It was as high brow as First Take fans remember. Smith, of course, was able to get in his own strong takes. He argued for James Hardens Hall of Fame status to be revoked over the guard once again struggling in the playoffs and attacked Bayless for throwing out his Dallas Cowboys paraphernalia in a viral video. Fans expecting more from Bayless and Smith might be left wanting following Fridays appearance. While the pair have and will undoubtedly walk away from the show with more than enough hot takes to heat up the sports world, Fridays appearance was a one-time thing for Bayless. Thats probably for the best. Too much Bayless and Smith could do more harm than good. Unleashing the pair sporadically could be the best course of action for both ESPN and the wider sporting world in 2026.

Trying to figure out the Packers wide receiver room for fantasy football has been like trying to find meaning in a Pauly Shore movie. (For those of you who arent from the 90s, thats a reference to the movie Clueless.)Anyway, Green Bay hasnt had a true No. 1 receiver since Davante Adams was traded after the 2021 regular season. Since then, its been a mixed bag of names like Allen Lazard, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2026 NFL season]But the Packers cut ties with Doubs (free agency) and Wicks (traded to the Eagles) this offseason, leaving the depth chart featuring Watson, Reed and second-year wideout Matthew Golden. Lets also not forget TE Tucker Kraft, who is coming off a torn ACL. Does that mean we finally have some clarity on who will get targets from QB Jordan Love in 2026? Matt Harmon and Scott Pianowski break it down on the latest episode of the Yahoo Fantasy Forecast. Harmon thinks that this room is pretty clear when you look at the roster, in that Matt LaFleur could opt to primarily use the three main receivers Watson, Reed and Golden. Harmon doesnt believe that Green Bay will rotate in second-year WR Savion Williams and veteran Skyy Moore much. If thats the case and the Packers offense remains efficient enough, Harmon believes that one of those three names will be a good value in fantasy football. In the recent Yahoo staff 10-round mock draft, Watson went 66th overall in Round 7 as the WR30. Reed went with Pick No. 96 in the final round as the WR44 off the board. And Golden went undrafted (though he would have gone in a full mock). Theres always injury concerns with Watson but he had a solid 2025 in a small sample (10 games). He finished with 35 catches for 611 yards and six TDs, the WR16 in fantasy points per game (11.5). Reed was also hurt in 2025 and only appeared in seven games. At the same time, Golden was scarcely used as a rookie (29 catches on 44 targets with no scores). Pianowski is worried about Kraft eating into targets, plus LaFleur loves to slow things down and run the ball. If thats the case, Love may struggle to get to 500 pass attempts, which would hurt the receivers values.
