Bovendien bleken de grote snelheidsverschillen tussen auto's op vol vermogen en bolides zonder stroom voor gevaarlijke situaties te zorgen. Onder anderen Max Verstappen uitte veel kritiek op het reglement. Door de nieuwe regels kunnen auto's niet langer de hele ronde vol gas rijden. Voor de Grand Prix van Miami, die afgelopen weekend gewonnen werd door Kimi Antonelli, werden de regels al gewijzigd. Coureurs konden in de kwalificatie minder energie sparen en de 'boostknop', goed voor extra vermogen, werd iets minder krachtig.
