2026 NFL Free Agency: Who Should Sign The Biggest Names Left On The Market?
With NFL offseason programs well underway, including OTAs for teams with new head coaches, several big-name players remain available in free agency. Where will they land? I take on the role of matchmaker, pairing 10 of the highest-profile names still on the market with teams that make the most sense. Alec Pierce has been elevated to the Colts WR1 slot, but they could still use more depth at wide receiver after trading Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Colts GM Chris Ballard said in April that Pierce could miss three months following offseason ankle surgery. The second-best wide receiver on Indianapolis roster is currently Josh Downs, who had a career-low 566 receiving yards last season. Diggs had a comeback season last year with the New England Patriots, catching 85 passes for 1,013 yards. Yes, he's 32 and has a lot of wear and tear, but he didn't miss a game in 2025 and played in his first Super Bowl. While Myles Garrett broke the NFLs single-season sack record last season (23.0), the Browns didnt have another edge rusher who reached six. So theres an opportunity to add more playmaking on whats already a strong defense. The 30-year-old Bosa, a five-time Pro Bowler with the Chargers, had five sacks and a league-high five forced fumbles with the Buffalo Bills in 2025. The Seahawks shouldnt rule out more depth at wide receiver. Given that hell have a full year with Seattle in 2026, midseason acquisition Rashid Shaheed should naturally step into the WR2 role alongside Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba. But Cooper Kupp is entering his age-33 season. New Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Fleury and the 30-year-old Samuel overlapped in San Francisco from 2019-24, including for Samuels first-team All-Pro season in 2021. At 35 years old, Wagner is well past his prime. But he remains a very cerebral and effective player in the run game, coming off his 10th straight season with at least 130 tackles. Its why he makes sense as a top backup option for the 49ers, who have injury concerns at both inside linebacker positions former All-Pro Fred Warner is coming off a season-ending ankle injury, and Dre Greenlaw has played in just 10 games over the past two seasons combined. Wagners longtime Seahawks teammate, KJ Wright, is also San Franciscos linebackers coach. The Texans dont have reliable pass-catching tight end behind starter Dalton Schultz, so thats a void Smith can fill. Houston offensive coordinator Nick Caley was also Smiths position coach with the Patriots from 2021-22. Hills status for 2026 remains unclear after dislocating his left knee and tearing multiple ligaments, including his ACL, last September. But after an unceremonious end to his Miami Dolphins tenure, a return to the Chiefs makes sense, health-enabling. He would provide much-needed veteran depth for a wide receiver room thats seen uneven play since his departure from Kansas City in 2022. Following the draft, the Bears could still use more depth at edge rusher behind Montez Sweat. The 36-year-old Jordan, who had 10.5 sacks last season with the Saints, spent a decade with Chicago defensive coordinator Dennis Allen in New Orleans (2015-24). The Niners could use some insurance behind star edge rusher Nick Bosa (coming off a torn ACL), as their pass rush struggled in 2025 with Bosa missing 14 games. The 33-year-old Clowney, the first pick of the 2014 NFL Draft who's now played for seven teams, has had at least 8.5 sacks in two of his past three seasons. With Aaron Rodgers returning to Pittsburgh, its not the worst idea for the Steelers to load up on bodyguards for the 42-year-old quarterback. Starting left tackle Broderick Jones is coming off a season-ending neck injury. The Steelers drafted former Arizona State offensive tackle Max Iheanachor in the first round, but its not uncommon for rookie offensive linemen to struggle. Decker, a longtime starter for the Detroit Lions, would give Pittsburgh veteran depth. [2026 NFL Free Agency Tracker] Bitonios former offensive line coach with the Browns, Bill Callahan, now has the same position with the Falcons, so Atlanta is a natural landing spot for him. The Falcons have starting guards in place with Chris Lindstrom and Matthew Bergeron, but offensive line depth is never a bad thing. Atlanta just saw Kaleb McGary, its starting right tackle from 2019-24, retire in April.

Brian Flores Subpoenas Dozens of Teams as NFL Lawsuit Grows
Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores has subpoenaed 25 NFL teamsin addition to the six he is suingfor information about their hiring practices as part of his long running discrimination lawsuit against the NFL, a new court filing shows. That brings nearly the entire NFL in some fashion into his case, likely omitting only his current employer. The move comes as he is set to file a new amended complaint Wednesday, the second time this year hes added to the charges in his original 2022 discrimination suit that rocked the NFL with allegations of systemic racism in head coach hiring. The proposed Third Amended Complaint also improperly purports to add a brand new claim for retaliation against the NFL that in no way responds to, let alone cures, the deficiencies in the Second Amended Complaint, the NFL wrote last week to the judge overseeing the case. In any event, that claim too asserting supposed retaliation based upon the NFLs enforcement of its arbitration provisions in employment agreements that this Court found to be binding upon the parties, is meritless.Flores filed the lawsuit February 1, 2022 after the Miami Dolphins fired him, listing the Dolphins and the New York Giants and Denver Broncos as defendants. The Giants and Broncos had interviewed him for their head coach position in what Flores dubbed sham processes designed to meet the requirements of the Rooney rule, the NFL policy that requires teams to interview minorities for top positions. Two months later, he added former head coaches Steve Wilks and Ray Horton as plaintiffs, and their former teams, the Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans, as defendants, as well as the Houston Texans. The NFL, which declined to comment for this story, has described Floress lawsuit as having no merit, though quickly in its aftermath expanded the scope of the Rooney rule.Over the ensuing four years, the case resided in a kind of purgatory as the NFL tried to shift litigation against the league and teams into arbitration, the leagues preferred venue. Judge Valerie Caproni ruled in March 2023 that the claims against the trio of coaches former teamsthe Dolphins, Cardinals and Titanscould go to arbitration, but not the Broncos, Giants, and Texans because they never employed the coaches.A time consuming series of appeals and cross appeals ended with the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals on August 14, 2025 upholding Capronis split decision. But in doing so, the court wrote, Commissioner Roger Goodell[s] unilateral authority to arbitrate was plainly unenforceable. That led Caproni on February 13 to move the entire case into federal court, and lift the stay on discovery. Since, according to the letter sent last week by both parties to Judge Caproni, Flores has moved aggressively, sending over a thousand document requests and sweeping document subpoenas to 25 teams seeking information about their hiring practices over the last 24 years/Sports attorney Chris Deubert expects the NFL will move quickly to quash the subpoenas to the non-party NFL teams.Theyre obviously going scorched-earth, Deubert told Front Office Sports about Flores seeking information from 31 teams. Presuming hes asking about their employment hiring practices and policies, and even that can be difficult to just to respond toBut those teams are probably going to object to the subpoenas, probably collectively through the league-friendly counsel, and say its not relevant, and therell be an interesting sort of fight there. If the retaliation claim is indeed as alleged by the NFL in the letterthe argument that the leagues effort to enforce arbitration is itself retaliationthen Deubert believes that it makes no sense.Lawyers for Flores did not reply for comment. No trial date is scheduled, and is unlikely to be until Judge Caproni rules on motions to dismiss, which must be filed by the teams and league yet again in response to Floress third amended complaint. The post Brian Flores Subpoenas Dozens of Teams as NFL Lawsuit Grows appeared first on Front Office Sports.
