WWW.FOXSPORTS.COM4 Takeaways From Wild, Historic Final Lap Of Felix Rosenqvist's Indy 500 WinIndianapolis Motor Speedway (Speedway, Ind.) What a final lap. Thanks to a late-race wreck of Mick Schumacher, there was a one-lap dash to the finish of the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500. Felix Rosenqvist started in fourth. So sure he had a chance, but a real chance? Apparently so. Rosenqvist quickly passed Pato OWard for third and then battled side-by-side with teammate Marcus Armstrong for second. After clearing Armstrong on the high side, Rosenqvist was able to side drift David Malukas to the finish line, winning by the slimmest margin in Indy 500 victory, a mere 0.0233 seconds. "I would definitely say the balls arrived," Rosenqvist said in his postrace news conference. "Ive never been flat around ... To do the whole lap on the outside, that was pretty cool. Its kind of unheard of at Indy." Here are my takeaways: 1. Rosenqvist's Bold Moves The Meyer Shank Racing No. 60 driver, in earning just his second career win and first since 2020 (and first on an oval), made three solid moves in one lap for the victory. The first one, to pass OWard, did get some quick scrutiny by INDYCAR on whether he made it in compliance with restart rules and it determined no violation (and OWard agreed with that ruling). The second one dared his teammate Armstrong to pinch him closer to the wall (he didnt). And the final one was perfect timing to execute the side draft, which makes the car beside you lose a little momentum. "Its still kind of a blur, ... You cant dream that up. Its so cool," Rosenqvist said about the final lap, later adding, "Thats just how much you want. Its hard to explain that feeling that you want it so much, you have so much adrenaline that you literally don't care if you're going to crash. "Youre just going all in. It was cool that that's what it took to win it as well." 2. Malukas Devastated David Malukas cried following the race after the Team Penske driver saw a potential win slip away. Malukas hasnt won an INDYCAR race and nearly won for the first time on the sport's biggest stage. "I dont know what else we could have done. We were the fastest car the whole race," Malukas said in his FOX Sports interview on the telecast. "I gave it 150 percent. I almost crashed this damn car every lap. and we still ended up with a P2. I dont know what else I can give." 3. Armstrong Frustrated A devastated, frustrated Marcus Armstrong still had a look of disbelief probably 20 minutes after the race ended. He indicated he would do it differently. He wound up fifth as Scott McLaughlin finished third and Pato O'Ward finished fourth. "Im obviously disappointed because I felt like the last corner, I was given two options was either to crash with my teammate or I have to lift," Armstrong told FOX Sports reporter Kevin Lee after the race. "I chose to lift a bit and that was the situation. We were in the position to win it. That could have been us that towed past Malukas. I cant believe it honestly. Just so close and I just felt like I made the wrong call at the most pivotal time." 4. OWard Matter-Of-Fact Pato OWard, the Arrow McLaren driver who has lost Indy 500s on the final lap so can relate to Malukas' heartbreak, didnt think he had much of the chance at the start of that final lap as his car lacked the speed he needed. "I had the front-row seats on the restart and I just felt helpless just not being able to catch the cars in front of me and obviously, here thats not enough," he told me and other reporters. OWard is good friends with Rosenqvist, so while it wasn't a successful May for O'Ward, he was happy for his friend. "Congratulations to Felix on a crazy finish," OWard said. "Maybe one day for us. ... I feel for David for sure. Unbelievable finish. Im sure the fans are going crazy." 4 . Whats Next Rosenqvist will have another day of media in Indianapolis, the awards banquet Monday night and then go on a winners tour in New York City before getting to Detroit for the Detroit Grand Prix, with practice starting the weekend Friday. He knows that Detroit doesnt often treat the Indy 500 winner all that well. "Honestly, I dont care," Rosenqvist said. "Im not thinking about Detroit right now."0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 83 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen -

The other top MVP candidates followed behind: Nikola Joki returned to the First Team for the fifth time in his career, followed by third-year center Victor Wembanyama, who caps off award season with his first All-NBA nod.Luka Doni and Cade Cunningham round out the list; both players were initially not eligible for NBA awards due to injuries, but were granted exceptions by the league and players association to qualify. Cunninghams selection is his appearance on the First Team as well. The 2025-26 Kia All-NBA First Team: Cade Cunningham, @DetroitPistons Luka Doni, @Lakers Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, @okcthunder Nikola Joki, @nuggets Victor Wembanyama, @spurspic.twitter.com/tGjHUx2qQi NBA Communications (@NBAPR) May 24, 2026Making the Second Team is another crew of all-stars, with Jaylen Brown, Kawhi Leonard, Donovan Mitchell, Kevin Durant and Jalen Brunson all earning nods. The 2025-26 Kia All-NBA Second Team: Jaylen Brown, @celtics Jalen Brunson, @nyknicks Kevin Durant, @HoustonRockets Kawhi Leonard, @LAClippers Donovan Mitchell, @cavspic.twitter.com/dAxet86j4u NBA Communications (@NBAPR) May 24, 2026And rounding it out is the Third Team, consisting of Tyrese Maxey, Jamal Murray, Jalen Johnson, Jalen Duren, and Chet Holmgren. The 2025-26 Kia All-NBA Third Team: Jalen Duren, @DetroitPistons Chet Holmgren, @okcthunder Jalen Johnson, @ATLHawks Tyrese Maxey, @sixers Jamal Murray, @nuggetspic.twitter.com/bU3FVBmZA2 NBA Communications (@NBAPR) May 24, 2026Breaking down the All-NBA First TeamWith the player awards now complete, heres a reminder of what the five All-NBA First Team members did this season to earn the honor.Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Oklahoma City ThunderGilgeous-Alexander stormed his way to his second straight NBA MVP behind another starry season in Oklahoma City. The guard averaged 31.1 points per game the second most in the league while pitching in on all ends of the court. Gilgeous-Alexanders MVP selection, which captured all but 17 of the available first-place votes, marked the eighth straight year with an international player taking the top prize.Gilgeous-Alexanders MVP victory lap continues on Sunday, as he and the Thunder try to build on the series lead over the San Antonio Spurs.Nikola Joki, Denver NuggetsTwo years removed from his third MVP, Joki isnt slowing down. The Nuggets big man put up another gold-star season, averaging a triple double with 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game.Joki finished second in MVP voting, earning 10 of the available first-place votes. After falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a first-round upset, theres a lot for Denver to consider in the offseason but letting go of their star center isnt one of them.Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio SpursAfter getting shut down early last season with a blood clot issue, Wembanyama returned better than ever. The Alien has bolstered his nickname with a season of inhuman basketball, with the center averaging 25 points and 11.5 rebounds per game while leading the Spurs to one of the best seasons in years. On top of that, hes led the league in blocks for the third year in a row, earning NBA Defensive Player of the Year after a unanimous vote and leading the NBAs All-Defensive First Team.Wembanyamas cinematic play has continued into the postseason, with the center putting up 41 points and 24 rebounds in Game against the Thunder, a double-overtime instant classic. The 22-year-old will keep leading the Spurs through the series with the hopes of spoiling the reigning champions postseason run.Luka Doni, Los Angeles LakersIn his first full season with the Lakers, Doni more than lived up to the hype. On a Lakers team that kept rotating through injuries, Doni saved the team through several stretches with a breakout season. Even after missing the last month of the year, the guard still led the NBA in points, averaging 33.5 points per game.Donis season came to an early end after suffering a hamstring injury. Initially, the injury threatened his season awards after falling one game short of the 65-game minimum, but the special exception from the league landed him on this list. That injury ended up keeping him out for the rest of the year, as the Lakers got swept by the Thunder in the second round.Cade Cunningham, Detroit PistonsCunningham built off last years stellar season with another big year as the Pistons franchise player. The fifth-year guard averaged 23.9 points and 9.9 assists per game while leading Detroit to the top seed in the East.Like Doni, Cunninghams MVP-caliber season was cut off early, with the guard missing three weeks with a collapsed lung. Unlike Doni, Cunningham was able to return to help his team in the postseason, averaging 28.1 per game in the playoffs before Detroits season came to an end against the Cleveland Cavaliers.0 Kommentare 0 Geteilt 75 Ansichten 0 Bewertungen
