Lewis Hamilton heeft een einde aan de zegereeks van Mercedes gemaakt. WK-leider Kimi Antonelli viel in de slotfase uit, terwijl hij op de tweede plaats reed. De 41-jarige Hamilton hield de andere Mercedes-coureur George Russell achter zich. Hamilton reed een sterke race en had het geluk aan zijn zijde: bij een safetycar kon hij in leidende positie een 'gratis' pitstop maken. Max Verstappen kwam niet verder dan de vierde plek. Meer dan dat zat er geen moment in voor de Nederlander, die vanaf de vijfde plek gestart was. Slechte start Hadjar Op het circuit waar Verstappen tien jaar geleden zijn allereerste Formule 1-zege boekte, beleefde de Nederlander nu een vrij anonieme race. Meevaller was dat hij in elk geval goed van start ging. In tegenstelling tot vorig weekend in Monaco, waar de Red Bull-coureur direct na de start uitviel. Dat de startproblemen bij Red Bull nog niet zijn opgelost, ondervond Verstappens teamgenoot Isack Hadjar. De Fransman kwam heel traag van zijn plek en zakte terug van de zesde naar de veertiende plaats. Hij eindigde uiteindelijk toch nog als zesde. Verder veranderde er niets bij de start: Russell behield de leiding, voor Hamitlon, Antonelli, Lando Norris en Verstappen. Verstappen was vooral druk met het verdedigen van zijn vijfde plek tegenover Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) en Oscar Piastri (McLaren). Naar voren kijken was er niet bij. Halverwege de race vochten de Mercedessen een fel duel uit, maar WK-leider Antonelli slaagde er niet in om Russell te passeren. Niet veel later viel Fernando Alonso uit, waardoor er een virtuele safetycar-situatie ontstond. Hamilton kon in leidende positie de pits in voor een set nieuwe banden en behield de eerste plek. Antonelli valt uit De Brit kon daarna onbedreigd op weg naar de 105de zege in zijn carrire, waarmee hij het recordaantal zeges in de Formule 1 verder uitbreidde. Met nog zes rondes te gaan, slaagde Antonelli erin om teamgenoot Russell alsnog te passeren, maar kort daarna begaf de auto van de WK-leider het. Verstappen profiteerde en schoof op naar de vierde plaats. Ondanks zijn uitvalbeurt gaat de 19-jarige Antonelli nog altijd aan de leiding in de WK-stand.
