Scotland Fans Celebrated Historic World Cup Win In The Most American Way
Scotland fans have a lot to celebrate early in this summer's World Cup, and they're doing it in a quintessentially American way. Saturday for the teams' World Cup opener, Scotland beat Haiti, 1-0, at Boston Stadium. Any tournament victory is worthy of celebration, but it's especially notable for Scotland, which not only returned to the World Cup for the first time since 1998 but also earned its first win since 1990. To put that in perspective, the last time Scotland won a World Cup match, the original "Home Alone" was the No. 1 movie that year. So yeah, the Tartan Army has been waiting for this moment. Fans in Boston have been having a blast, but after Saturday's first-match win, their celebrations included renditions of two iconic songs: John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads" and Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline." Gotta love a widespread sports moment where Scotland fans were rallying in Boston while belting out a beautiful ode to West Virginia. As we noted in our analysis of Scotland's win over Haiti on Saturday, Scotland has a two-point lead at the top of Group C with three total points so far. The team's next match is against Morocco on Friday, June 19 in Boston.

Browns' Shedeur Sanders positive development is good news from ESPN
Browns' Shedeur Sanders positive development is good news from ESPN originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Cleveland Browns are a long way away from figuring out who their starting QB will be for the 2026 NFL season. The latest development for Shedeur Sanders, in the quarterback competition for Deshaun Watson, is a positive one, at least.ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi broke down the battle in a new article on Sunday."Both Watson and Sanders had their moments during OTAs and minicamp," Oyefusi writes. "Watson looks healthy from not only his Achilles tear but a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery in November 2023. He appeared to be more willing to push the ball downfield than the last time he played competitive football."MORE:Chiefs' new contract makes it even harder to release Patrick MahomesIt's their first year in a new offense with Todd Monken, and it sounds like Sanders has moved in the right direction."Sanders looked more poised in Monken's offense as time went on, and coaches lauded improvements in his footwork and processing," Oyefusi writes. "Monken, though, acknowledged it's important to evaluate Watson and Sanders in practices with pads on, a more lively pass rush and possibly even preseason games before he decides on who will start."MORE:Jahmyr Gibbs, Bijan Robinson playing a funny game of chickenSanders got some starting experience as a rookie, but it wasn't all positive. He'll need to show continued improvement, especially under a new coaching staff. In reality, he'll probably get some starts this season, and Watson will probably get some starts this season, too."It would feel different if I didn't feel like their progression hadn't gotten to this point where I think they both can start and play winning football," Monken said, via ESPN. "I'm convinced of it. And I'd say it if I didn't. I mean, I can't decide now because I think both have earned the opportunity to continue to compete once we put the pads on."There's still much to figure out, and there's a strong chance neither of these guys is the long-term answer. One of them, though, will be the answer for right now.More NFL news:A.J. Emma Raducanu handed major boost for Wimbledon following Queen's Club Championship run
Emma Raducanu has been handed a major boost for Wimbledon following her run in the Queen's Club Championship. The British No1 lost in the final of Queen's to Donna Vekic 6-0, 7-6 (8-6), as the pair put on a thrilling contest in west London. Her run to the final, which saw Raducanu win two games in one day on Saturday, comes with its perks for Wimbledon. The 23-year-old has now soared through the rankings and is now the world number 31.TRENDINGStoriesVideosYour SayRaducanu's new ranking means she will now enter Wimbledon in a seeded position, meaning a more favourable draw will likely fall her way.The same goes for Vekic, who is now the world number 32, with the rest of the draw pleased not to have the two tough opponents in an unseeded position.Raducanu was humble in defeat to Vekic, recognising the incredible run she had been on to reach the final. She said: "It's been an incredible week for me, making the final here, playing in my home city, in my home tournament."The support I have received all week has been incredible, but I really want to take this opportunity to thank everyone."Today was a really tough match. Donna played extremely well from the start to the finish."So thanks for getting me through some tough moments this week and also for helping me push back in that second set."Raducanu continued: "What a week for you, from qualifying all the way to the title. You played really well so all the best."LATEST SPORTS NEWS:Lewis Hamilton wins Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix and secures first victory with FerrariTwo men charged after stealing England's training equipmentNew York streets descend into chaos after Knicks win NBA FinalsVekic responded with kind words of her own to Raducanu, saying: "Wow, first of all, congrats Emma on such a great week. You are such an incredible player, and I wish you and your team all of the best for the remainder of the grass season."Growing up and watching the tour, I was always jealous of the boys having a chance to play at this amazing club."I am very grateful that since last year we have had the opportunity to play here as well."Thank you to everyone who made this happen. We really enjoy it."Vekic continued, telling the BBC: "I was always jealous of the boys playing at this club and this amazing court. I love this court, I love the grass, and I have really enjoyed myself this week."Winning 6-0 [in a first set] is sometimes a curse in tennis. Emma really stepped up and played some amazing tennis. I just tried to stay with her, make her play it out, stay with every single ball. "Her last service game and the tie-break are a bit of a blur right now, but I'm really happy I managed to win."This is really my favourite time of the year, my favourite surface. I really made the most out of it this week, and I will see you all in two weeks at Wimbledon. Thank you guys for all your support."Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter
