Pinstripe panic? What the Shohei Ohtani blueprint tells us about Aaron Judge's card market
Aaron Judge is hurt again. The slugger has a broken rib that has sidelined him for about another month. While fans are waiting for the New York Yankees superstar to return to the lineup, many collectors are wondering if his latest injury will affect the value of his cards. The good news is there is already a blueprint in place on how injuries affect the card values of a generational talent.Look at Shohei Ohtani.Ohtani has done amazing things on the field, hitting home runs with ease and stealing bases to become the first 50/50 player, all the while pitching in between. But hes been hurt seriously at times in his career.Ohtani has had Tommy John surgery twice. And yet, the four-time MVP is still one of the most collectible and valuable baseball players in the card market.Ohtanis cards did see slight dips in 2018 and 2023, when he had his surgeries. According to Card Ladder, his index dropped from around 1,000 and stayed low (for him) until about 2021.In 2021, he led the league at the All-Star break in home runs, was a contender for the Cy Young and earned his first All-Star selection. Ohtani finished with 46 home runs and won his first of four MVP awards. But after his second Tommy John surgery, Ohtanis card index did drop slightly again going from almost 5,000 to a low of 4,091.Its only skyrocketed since, with Ohtanis current Card Ladder Index sitting at 37,597.That brings us to Judge, a three-time MVP and the American League home run record holder. He has also led the league in WAR in three of the last four seasons. And he's had just as many injuries as Ohtani, but hasnt had to miss as much time.If youre worried about Judges card values, you dont have to. Ohtanis card values have shown the path Judges will likely take.Judge cards may take a dip while hes on the IL, but once hes back, collectors should expect his cards to see another bump. And if Judge could ever get a ring?Theres no telling how high his card values will get.

Pereira fumes over 'illegal shots' after Gane's interim UFC heavyweight title win
Mixed martial arts star Alex Pereira of Brazil has accused Frenchman Cyril Gane of landing multiple illegal shots during their fight for the interim UFC heavyweight title at the White House.Gane finished off Pereira in the second round to win the title on Sunday after sending him stumbling with a right jab followed by a hammer fist. The referee then stopped the fight 1:27 into the round after a left to the chin. After hitting Pereira with a jab, Gane launched a brutal floor sequence that included elbows to the back of the head.Pereira said on his social media it was difficult for him to recover from those illegal shots.I believe that if it wasnt for those shots I'd be in that situation, and I could have possibly recovered," he said. Maybe not, but they were very hard shots, and illegal.Pereira criticized referee Herb Dean, saying he should not have been picked for their fight. Dean explained his decisions in a video, saying the rule were talking about is the back of the head, and that's confusing because it's different in boxing."Donald Trump celebrated his 80th birthday and the nations 250th anniversary with an unusual UFC show featuring seven fights within an eight-sided, wire-mesh cage on the White House South Lawn.___AP MMA: https://apnews.com/hub/mixed-martial-arts

TRENDINGStoriesVideosYour SayHe suggested that due to the debate over who to play and where to play them, Owen wrote in the Mail that England should just "play them all".The former Ballon d'Or winner recommended telling Anthony Gordon to run flat out for the first half, then replacing him with someone like Marcus Rashford, who can do the same. This goes with the No 10 position, with either Jude Bellingham or Morgan Rogers, advising that the pair "run [themselves] into the ground".Owen explained that if he knew he had only 45 minutes on the pitch, he would give it his all, so the deployment could serve as motivation for the players.LATEST SPORTS NEWSWorld Cup day seven: All the latest as England rumours swirl ahead of Croatia showdownWayne Rooney's new look astonishes football fans during BBC World Cup coverageEngland fans risk World Cup ban for chanting anti-Keir Starmer songs and waving patriotic flagsWith five substitutions at Tuchel's disposal, the former England striker advised using the attacking changes to exploit weary defenders in the baking heat. The England manager has star power at his disposal across the pitch and urged his players to be "brave" in their match against Croatia.Tuchel said: "I think we should play brave and play to the strengths of the players."I feel clearly that the players want it and that it helps us, and that they are successful in club football like this."They compete in the strongest league, most of them. The others who are not in the league compete in the highest level in Europe and Champions League and they play in brave and active teams. "That's what we try because it makes them comfortable."I think it makes things exciting and creates a certain energy, and we need a connection with our fans, who are here, with the fans at home, to create something special."Tuchel praised the nature of the opposition with Croatia in front of England, who knocked the Three Lions out of the World Cup in 2018.He said: "It is a very difficult start."First of all, it is an experienced team, an experienced coach, in tournament knockout football.
