The New York Knicks victory tour following their first NBA championship since 1973 made another stop Wednesday night when Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart threw out ceremonial first pitches at Yankee Stadium.Before the Yankees played the Chicago White Sox, Brunson and Hart were met with a standing ovation and loud cheers from fans as they took the field to a montage of highlights from the title run.Standing in front of the mound and wearing Yankees pinstripes, Brunson made his toss to backup catcher J.C. Brunson and Hart along with starters Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby also appeared on ABCs Good Morning America on Monday.The ceremony occurred a day before the Knicks will be honored with a massive ticker-tape parade in lower Manhattan. Mayor Zohran Mamdani predicted Thursdays celebration could be the largest parade in New York City history."The parade will also be the first for the Knicks, who won their first two NBA championships in 1970 and 1973. After those titles, then-Mayor John Lindsay celebrated the team at the mayoral mansion and City Hall.Brunson threw out a first pitch for the second time since joining the Knicks. He also did it before a Mets-Yankees game in July 2024 shortly after signing a four-year, $156.5 million contract to stay with the Knicks.Brunson averaged 32.6 points in New Yorks five-game victory over the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals and won MVP honors. He led the Knicks to a 94-90 victory in the clinching Game 5 by scoring 45 points.Hart is a great-nephew of former Yankees catcher Elston Howard, whose No. 32 jersey is retired by the team. Howard is also honored with a plaque in Monument Park.The Knicks finished 16-3 in the postseason, an .842 winning percentage that matched the 2024 Boston Celtics for second-best since the format changed to best-of-seven series in all NBA playoff rounds beginning in 2003. The 2017 Golden State Warriors went 16-1.New York won 13 consecutive postseason games, second to Golden State's 15 in a row in 2017, and set records by winning nine straight road games and outscoring their postseason opponents by 283 points.Brunson and the Knicks also pulled off several big comebacks on the way to their title. Its just been a captivating run that theyve been on and with a group thats now been together for a couple of years and then on top of the 53 years since a championship, its been a great story and a fan base that has come to know several of these guys as theyve kind of climbed that ladder to ultimately winning a championship, Boone said. College football leaders gathered Wednesday to debate the merits of expanding to 24 or 16 playoff teams. They need more time, though, to sort out the details of what could be the most important number money. Rich Clark, the executive director of the College Football Playoff, said the meetings between commissioners and a few others were "very healthy" but didnt lead to anything concrete. "Weve got a lot on the table to just help us to continue to move the ball forward," Clark said. "We have a little homework to do coming out of there. ... We have a good idea what we need to bring back to them to help them with their decisions." They will keep studying the impact that expanding the playoff from 12 to 16 or 24 teams could have on venues, the schedule, the future of now-imperiled conference title games. And, of course, how much extra games might go for on the open market. Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey has lobbied for 16 teams, while Big 12 and Atlantic Coast Conference leaders have widely agreed on their preference for a 24-team scenario that the Big Ten first put forward and still supports. The playoff expanded from four to 12 teams in 2024, but after executives failed to reach an expansion agreement, the CFP will use the same model for the 2026-27 season. "I feel like we made progress and sometimes, even though you dont get to the answers, you understand more about what you need to get to the answer," Clark said. "My goal is for us to make the most informed decision that we can. If it takes time, I would rather be deliberate about this than rush into something that was half-baked or not fully thought through." Brendan Sorsby Situation Asked if they were any discussions on sports wagering, Clark responded: "Nothing that Im wanting to talk about." It remains a hot topic in light of Brendan Sorsby, the transfer quarterback who now wont play for Texas Tech this fall and instead plans to enter the NFL supplemental draft. Sorsbys decision ends his legal fight over the college eligibility of a player who had acknowledged betting on college and pro sports, including bets on his own team. September Meeting The next meeting for the leaders of college football is slated for September, but another could be scheduled if theyre "able to gather the facts and the information that they need," Clark said. Like how scheduling might work and, of course, maybe more insight into revenue. "We have to look at everything," Clark said. "I feel very optimistic about the way the meeting went, and I know our team, we feel like we have some good marching orders on what we need to provide to the commissioners to help them.
