WWW.FOXSPORTS.COM'I'll Get There': Lamine Yamal Wants To Replicate This Lionel Messi SkillBarcelona sensation Lamine Yamal has predicted that he will eventually transition into a central role, following in the tactical footsteps of club legend Lionel Messi. The 18-year-old high-flyer is currently tearing up the wings for club and country but believes moving inside is inevitable to escape the constant triple-marking he faces. Mirroring The Messi Evolution Yamal has been the talk of the footballing world following his meteoric rise, with many drawing parallels between his current trajectory and that of the greatest to ever wear the Blaugrana shirt. Just as the Argentine icon transitioned from a terrifying winger to a central playmaker, Yamal expects his own future to lie away from the touchline. Speaking in an interview with El Mundo, the teenager explained the logic behind his tactical foresight. "I think Leo was also marked by three players," he explained. "And the only place where three players cant mark you is in the middle. There are too many players there. As time goes on, Ill end up there, because its very easy to defend with three on the wings, but they cant mark me in the middle." Becoming A More Decisive Threat The Euro 2024 star is currently a fixture on the right flank, using his pace and trickery to unbalance deep blocks. However, he admitted that he feels his ceiling as a match-winner is higher when operating in the pocket between industrial defensive lines. He has already shown flashes of this versatility, being deployed more centrally on occasion. "I can take on defenders one-on-one in the middle. Im a more decisive player if I turn in the middle than if I turn out wide," Yamal noted. "Obviously, right now I think its better for the team if Im out wide. But there will come a time when Ill be more decisive in the middle. And Ill end up there." The challenge of triple-marking Opponents have quickly realised that leaving the youngster in a simple one-on-one scenario is a recipe for disaster. Yamal revealed that he is now accustomed to being crowded out by several defenders at once, though he maintains a cool head about how to bypass these tactical traps by involving his team-mates more effectively. "At least three [markers]. If Im lucky, two. But one-on-one, never, ever, ever," he said when asked about the attention he receives. "So I start thinking about plays: I talk to the full-back and tell him, 'If I give you the ball, do this.' The manager tells me, 'If you have three, there are three teammates free.' So its about playing at the back, obviously, but the dribbling is all about improvising. You dont plan it. Its impossible." Hailed as the heir to the throne As Spain prepare for their 2026 World Cup clash with Saudi Arabia, the hype surrounding the youngster has reached a fever pitch. Rival managers are paying close attention, with Saudi boss Georgios Donis suggesting the 18-year-old hasstarted to replace Messi in Barcelona in the best waydue to his incredible maturity on the pitch. Despite the comparisons, Yamal is keeping his feet on the ground regarding his longevity. When asked if he could see himself emulating Messis incredible career by playing at the age of 40, his response was swift and emphatic: "Impossible. Impossible. Impossible." For now, fans will simply enjoy the brilliance of a player who seems destined to define the next era of Barcelona football.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 99 Views 0 voorbeeld -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJordan Spieth's major drought continues after difficult U.S. Open finishJordan Spieth's major drought continues after difficult U.S. Open finish originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Jordan Spieth's major drought continues after difficult U.S. Open finish There was a time when Jordan Spieth seemed destined to rewrite golf history. By the age of 24, Spieth had already won three major championships, captured the Masters and U.S. Open in the same season, climbed to world No. 1 and joined some of the biggest names the sport has ever produced. It felt less like a question of if he would complete the career Grand Slam and more a question of when.Nearly a decade later, that wait continues. Spieth's latest opportunity came at the 2026 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, a venue where experience and creativity often matter as much as pure power. Instead, the week turned into another frustrating chapter in one of golf's most surprising droughts. After rounds of 73, 70, 73 and 74, Spieth finished tied for 56th at 10-over par, never seriously contending for the championship. His final-round 74 included four bogeys on the back nine and capped off a week where he struggled to generate momentum.A drought few could have predictedSpieth's last major championship victory remains the 2017 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. That victory gave him three majors before his 24th birthday and placed him in rare company. Many expected several more major trophies to follow. Instead, the years since have been filled with near misses, swing changes, injuries, flashes of brilliance and long stretches of inconsistency. The drought has now stretched to nine years and counting. For most golfers, a career that includes a Masters title, a U.S. Open championship and a Claret Jug would be legendary. For Spieth, the expectations were simply different because of how quickly he arrived at the sport's summit.MORE:Rory McIlroy's U.S. Open takes painful turn after early charge at Shinnecock HillsThe search for another major goes onWhat makes Spieth's drought particularly fascinating is that he has not disappeared from the game's biggest stages. He finished runner-up at The Open in 2021 and has recorded several strong major performances since his last victory. Yet every season seems to bring the same conversation: Is this finally the year Spieth breaks through again? At Shinnecock Hills, the answer was no. While younger stars continue to emerge and players like Scottie Scheffler have established themselves as the sport's dominant force, Spieth remains stuck searching for the form that once made him golf's most dangerous major championship player.Time is still on Spieth's sideThe encouraging reality for Spieth is that he is only 32 years old. Many golfers have won majors well into their 30s and even 40s. His experience, creativity around the greens and proven ability to handle pressure remain valuable assets whenever golf's biggest tournaments arrive. But with every major that passes without a serious Sunday charge, the questions become louder. Spieth arrived at Shinnecock Hills hoping to create another memorable chapter in his major championship career. Instead, he leaves Long Island with the same storyline that has followed him for years. One of golf's most accomplished players is still waiting for major championship No. 4.MORE PGA:Inside Wyndham Clark's major historyRevisiting Wyndham Clark's 2025 U.S. Open incidentRound 4 tee times, featured groups for 2026 U.S. Open0 Reacties 0 aandelen 100 Views 0 voorbeeld

WWW.CLICK2HOUSTON.COMA good time, Texans Pro Bowl corner Kamari Lassiter holds inaugural celebrity softball game at Space Cowboys stadiumKamari Lassiter took a mighty swing, many of them, during a home run derby Saturday night, as did Calen Bullock and Azeez Al-Shaair.There were a few whiffs, ground balls and not a lot of blasts from the Texans players during a celebrity softball game, the inaugural one for Lassiter, at the Space Cowboys Constellation Field.More importantly, the guys had a lot of fun and raised money for charity.Delete that!, Lassiter said to a smiling Bullock while laughing after his turn at bat didnt produce the home runs he had hoped for while his friend recorded the moment on his phone." Delete that, man!" It was a night of excitement and laughter for Lassiter, who was joined by several teammates. That included Al-Shaair, a Pro Bowl middle linebacker who made contact more consistently than his colleagues, along with cornerback Jaylin Smith, wide receiver Tank Dell, safety Jaylen Reed, linebackers Jamal Hill and Henry TooToo and nickel Jalen Pitre. Plus, Hall of Fame wide receiver Andre Johnson participated, as did Denver Broncos defensive back Jahdae Barron, Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Tykee Smith, Green Bay Packers defensive back Javon Bullard, Minnesota Vikings defensive end Dallas Turner, Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle Josh Jones, Toronto Raptors guard Jamal Shead, a University of Houston alum, private defensive backs coach Jacory Nichols and Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Amarius Mims.Home run derby at Kamari Lassiter @kl3softball celebrity softball game: #Texans Pro Bowl corner takes his cuts at Constellation Field@KPRC2 pic.twitter.com/SGCGCEr3kb Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) June 21, 2026Ive got all my guys here, Lassiter said. The more guys that I see coming in the door, the happier I get. Were going to have a good time. The guys are here. We do a lot of things outside of football. Were really close together. Were close-knit as a team. Even guys who arent playing in the game, Woody Marks, Blake Fisher, thats what we do. Thats how good teams are built. Thats what were built on. I just feel like its so much bigger than football with us.There was a lot of joking around, including Lassiter reiterating the Unc status he has bestowed upon Al-Shaair, a hard-hitting defensive team captain and signal caller whos only 28 years oldAzeez is Unc, he acts like Unc, he walks like Unc, he talks like Unc, he does everything Unc style, except for football, Lassiter said. Everything outside of football, he acts like Unc and he knows that. But thats my dog. I cant wait for him to pull up.#Texans Pro Bowl safety Calen Bullock @CalenBullock @kl3softball home run derby tonight in Sugar Land @kpr https://t.co/eXHIPODMjV pic.twitter.com/xDZsoKXrKD Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) June 21, 2026Al-Shaair made a joke recently about the length of Lassiters shirts, cracking back at his younger teammate.First off, my shirts are righteous, Lassiter said. My shirts are at the righteous length. Theyre not crop-tops or anything and he wears all this outlandish stuff. So, Im going to get on him with that Unc style. I got something for him.#Texans Pro Bowl linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair @A_train2_ at Kamar Lassiter home run derby @kamari@KPRC2 https://t.co/eXHIPODMjV pic.twitter.com/OSm1rVq7I6 Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) June 21, 2026Kamari Lassiter #Texans Pro Bowl corner @kamari_lassiter throws out first pitch tonight @SLSpaceCowboys On June 20, Lassiter and teammates and former NBA guard Nate Robinson @nate_robinson and several #NFL players including #Ravens Malaki Starks @starks_malaki @GeorgiaFootball https://t.co/TBKTBXshLp pic.twitter.com/3joMZUoDYX Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) May 30, 2026The vision behind the event: His mother made the suggestion and the idea immediately resonated with Lassiter.I was like, Yeah, I would love to, and she was like, Its going to be a celebrity event so you get to bring whoever you want, Lassiter said. I know all my guys would love to do that. Just having that opportunity come its like impossible to say no.Its really for me and the guys. In my eyes, theyre all celebrities. It was just too late. It was time for football, so I had to drop it.Bragging rights were on the line. Especially between Lassiter and Bullock, his best friend.Clearly, I think Im the best, but all my friends think theyre the best, so were going to see who hits the most home runs, Lassiter said weeks before the game. Everybody on the team thinks theyre going to hit more home runs than me. (Bullock) thinks hes going to hit a lot of home runs. Were going to see. Its really going to be bragging rights, because some people are going to come out here and theyre going to wet the bed. Whenever they wet the bed and get struck out in the home run derby, theyre never going to hear the end of it.#Texans Pro Bowl corner Kamari Lassiter @kamari_lassiter @kl3softball, partnered today with Dick's Sporting Goods @DICKS for a shopping spree for kids @KPRC2 pic.twitter.com/XhjT2vrJ46 Aaron Wilson (@AaronWilson_NFL) May 29, 2026On and off the field, Lassiter is dedicated. And hes inspired by the example of his parents, Kammie and Kenneth. It comes a lot for my family, just being raised by two hard-working, God-fearing people, Lassiter said. Thats instilled in me, but I feel like this event is really just something to put my name on as a staple to be in the city Houston.Something that I could do year in and year out. Just have people come out and just enjoy a day where we can all just be together.Aaron Wilson is a Texans and NFL reporter for KPRC 2 and click2houston.com0 Reacties 0 aandelen 95 Views 0 voorbeeld
