WWW.FOXSPORTS.COM2026 World Cup Group I Scenarios, Standings for France, Norway, Senegal, IraqFrance and Norway have both already advanced to the knockout stage. What remains to be decided is who wins the group and whether Senegal or Iraq avoids elimination heading into today's simultaneous 3 p.m. ET kickoffs. Norway vs. France is live on FOX and Senegal vs. Iraq will air on FS1. Here is what every team in Group I needs heading into the final matchday. For a full breakdown of every group at the 2026 World Cup, see thecomplete group scenarios guide at FOX Sports. Current Group I Standings Group I Scenarios France With a couple of memorable Kylian Mbapp performances, France has won both of its matches and have already secured a spot in the Round of 32. A win or draw today and Les Bleus wins group I. Norway Norway has already advanced and, like France, has won both of its group stage matches. Norway can win the group and face a potentially more favorable matchup in the knockouts by beating France today. Erling Haaland and Norway have been one of the most impressive teams of the group stage and goes into the final matchday in excellent form. Senegal Senegal has yet to pick up a point in Group I and needs a win over Iraq to have any hope of advancing as one of the eight best third-place teams. With a -3 goal difference entering the game, a win by one or two goals would likely put Senegal on the bubble. It will need results to go their way across the other groups. A draw or loss ends their tournament. Iraq Iraq is in a similar boat as Senegal. Except, with a -6 goal difference entering the game, Iraq almost certainly needs a multi-goal win to advance. It needs a win to stay alive and would need help from elsewhere to advance as one of the eight best third-place teams. The loser of this match will be eliminated from the tournament. How To Watch Group I Matches Both Group I matches kick off simultaneously at 3 p.m. ET today and air live on FOX and FS1,streaming on FOX One.0 Comments 0 Shares 152 Views 0 Reviews -

WWW.FOXSPORTS.COMThe Success Of The Mauricio Pochettino Era Is Now Riding On This Next GameLOS ANGELES STADIUM All it took was one unlucky loss in the USAs dead-rubber final group-stage game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup for Mauricio Pochettino to reveal the immense pressure he knows hes under. Hired to be the mens national team's savior when the U.S. Soccer Federation backed up the Brinks truck with the help of some deep-pocketed angel investors to lure one of the worlds most highly regarded coaches to what European and South American elitists have always derided as a relative backwater, were about to find out if Pochettino is worth his hefty price tag. The U.S. will face Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday with a spot in the round of 16 on the line. The Americans are the favorites, and their fans are expecting demanding a win. For all the good vibes and good publicity that the former Paris Saint-Germain manager engendered by opening the tournament with convincing wins over Paraguay and Australia, that won't matter if he drops thisnext one. Those are the stakes. And for Pochettino, its not a great position to be in. This U.S. team should beat the Bosnians. But it wont be easy. Anything can happen in one match. An own goal. An early red card. And if they lose, the reasons wont matter. After a hot start, at the first World Cup on home soil in 32 years, losing that one game would instantly render the entire Pochettino experiment an embarrassment. Sitting behind the mahogany desk in his office at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in nearby Orange County two nights before a reserve-heavy U.S. lineup lost 3-2 to Trkiye on Thursday, Pochettino was as charming as could be. For 30 minutes, the charismatic 54-year-old laughed and joked with a small group of reporters. He insisted that hed slept like a baby the night before the Stars and Stripes' World Cup opening 4-1 win over the Paraguayans, utterly convinced as he was that his beloved players would perform. Toward the end of the roundtable session, I asked him if hed be as relaxed when the knockout stage arrived. "It needs to be the same," he told me, which is not the same as saying that it will be. "We need to prepare [for] the game, not thinking about if we don't win." Unpleasant as the thought is, this match against Bosnia andHerzegovina has "trap game" written all over it. In Pochettinos 29 outings since taking over the U.S. program in October 2024, hes faced European foes six times including Thursday and lost every single one. The cold reality is that the outcome of this next game is probably close to a coin flip, and the World Cup co-hosts have a lot more to lose than to gain. The U.S. has reached the round of 16 at the last three World Cups it has participated in. After Thursdays loss, a visibly upset Pochettino struck an inexplicably defensive tone. "No one congratulated us [for] finish[ing] first in a very difficult group," he chastised the media members in the room, as if thats a normal thing, as if the coverage of his team at this World Cup hasnt been almost universally positive including the game that had just ended. Granted, this was a hugely inexperienced lineup (just three of Pochettinos starters had ever started a World Cup game before, with two making their tournament debut) that had played well despite the defeat. But a far weaker U.S. team survived a far tougher group in 2014, one that featured African power Ghana, a Portugal side led by an in-his-prime Cristiano Ronaldo and eventual champion Germany. Four years earlier, Bob Bradleys squad topped a quartet containing England. Gregg Berhalter got to the round of 16 in 2022 with the youngest starting lineup in Qatar. And of course, Bruce Arena posted the USA's lone World Cup knockout win in 2002, almost a quarter-century ago. So far, Pochettino has accomplished nothing close with his U.S. team. Not yet. That doesnt mean that he cant. Hes probably got a deeper roster than any of his predecessors. But now, because of the expanded format, he needs to win another game just to equal what his American-born predecessors managed time and again. And none of those men had the huge advantage that comes with home fans supporting them. The only one that did was Bora Milutinovi, who took the U.S. to the round of 16 way back in 1994, losing 1-0 to Brazil another eventual titlist with a squad that only had seven players under contract with professional clubs. No wonder Pochettino is on edge. For a coach who has admitted that he wants to return to the English Premier League, getting eliminated in the round of 32 on the biggest stage possible, by an inferior opponent, could do lasting, potentially irreparable harm to his global reputation. Surely he knows that, too. To be clear, this current U.S. team is absolutely capable of outperforming any that came before it. A quarterfinal trip is realistic. Ive said consistently that, if they play as well as they can and get a little luck along the way, a semifinal berth is possible. "In 2002, when I was involved in the World Cup [as a defender for Argentina], South Korea was in the semifinal," Pochettino, riding the high of being 2-0 at the time, saidlast week. "Morocco was in the [semis] also in Qatar [in 2022]," he added."Why not us?" Well, getting anywhere close starts with a victory next week. The U.S. can do it, no question. The country fell in love with this team over the last two weeks for good reason. They play hard. They score goals. Theyre good guys who care. They know that this summer represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the sport in this country, and theyll do everything possible to seize it. No World Cup game is a forgone conclusion, but I firmly believe that the U.S. will beat Bosnia and Herzegovina on July 1 in Santa Clara. Im sure of it. For Pochettinos sake, theyd better.0 Comments 0 Shares 167 Views 0 Reviews -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBest landing spots for Jaylen Brown? Did Boston botch the Giannis deal? All eyes are on Jaylen Brown and Boston. The Celtics reportedly offered the All-NBA wing to Milwaukee in a deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo that didnt come to fruition. And, according to ESPN, Boston is still actively engaged in trade talks surrounding the 2024 Finals MVP. So, what would be the best landing spot for Brown? And have we ultimately seen the last of him in a Celtics uniform? Our writers weigh in.What's the best landing spot for Jaylen Brown?Kelly Iko: San Antonio. The cleanest deal cap-wise would have to involve De'Aaron Fox (who would likely go to a third team), but it's hard to rewatch the bulk of the Spurs' offensive misfires late in those Finals games and not think that Brown could help alleviate some (or all) of that Knicks pressure. Pulling the trigger on a player of his caliber would put the franchise into that weird two-timeline territory, but Brown's shot creation, true three-level scoring ability, ball-handling prowess and defensive versatility would mesh seamlessly with Victor Wembanyama. Ben Rohrbach: Cleveland. The Cavaliers have the blue-chip talent (Evan Mobley) to offer for Brown, while maintaining a lineup that would feature Donovan Mitchell and James Harden. The Cavs have been in search of a wing, really, since LeBron James left town. Who better than one of the NBA's best two-way players to fill that hole. And Brown is a winner, too. The 2024 Finals MVP could win another title with Cleveland, and that's not something we can say about all his suitors.Jan 19, 2026; Detroit, Michigan, USA; Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown (7) leaves the court after the game against the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena. Mandatory Credit: Rick Osentoski-Imagn ImagesIMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect / REUTERSDan Devine: Boston? If this is ultimately about Jaylen wanting his own team, then maybe it's something like the Nets, who could build something around Michael Porter Jr. and Terance Mann, or the Kings, who could send back some combination of Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine and Malik Monk as matching salary. If it's about staying in the playoff hunt, then um I don't know, Houston, for something built around Kevin Durant or Alperen engn and/or Fred VanVleet? The Clippers, for Kawhi? Truth be told, I don't really like any of those options for Brown, for the Celtics, or for the potential acquiring teams. Which is why the best answer, thorny as it might seem right now, is still probably Boston.Tom Haberstroh: Houston. Reuniting former Boston head coach Ime Udoka with Brown seems like a lock-and-key fit. Yet again the Rockets' offense crumbled this season with the increased pressure of the playoffs. I don't think it's reasonable to expect Fred VanVleet and Kevin Durant to be healthy enough to drive their postseason runs anymore. Brown, at 29, feels like the perfect bridge.True or False: Boston bungled the Giannis deal.Devine: True. The sober-minded analyst in me wants to say false, but what is late June if not a time to be drunk? The Celtics still need: more ways to generate good shots, more ways to pressure the rim, more bankable size on the interior, more talent to be able to go toe-to-toe with the best teams in the NBA, etc. They matriculated the ball down the field in pursuit of one player who could solve virtually all of those problems and then they punted. Now, they've got to find other pathways to checking those boxes while also figuring out what comes next with a mercurial talent they've just very publicly dangled in trade talks. Los Angeles Dodgers president Andrew Friedman once said, "If you're always rational about every free agent, you will finish third on every free agent." Maybe Stevens finds another way to get what he wants. Right now, though, it feels like he might have been a bit too rational at a moment where going Tim Connelly Mode might have served him well.Haberstroh: True. Until we learn about Plan B. It's not just that the Celtics lost out on a perennial MVP candidate who fills a glaring need in the frontcourt. That's bad enough. It's also that they lost him to a bitter rival in Miami. Maybe Brad Stevens has a trick up his sleeve.Rohrbach: True. The Celtics had to have known, if they indeed offered Brown for Giannis Antetokounmpo, news would leak, and they must have known it would upset him, even if they were pursuing a perennial MVP candidate. They had two choices, then: 1) Don't offer Brown, trusting he is younger and healthier, or 2) Get Antetokounmpo, regardless of what it takes. They took neither option, and now the relationship with their own All-NBA talent may be irreparable.Iko: True. The mere fact that the basketball world was in utter shock that Boston, having already gone down this path with Brown a few years ago regarding Kevin Durant, chose to dangle him again is enough. It's just bad optics from all angles. Brown had one of the best individual regular seasons in recent memory and played a significant part in the Celtics winning 56 games. To go from that to offering him in broad daylight for an older, injury-prone Giannis is extremely bold and even bolder having lost the sweepstakes. On a scale of 1-10, rate the success of the Tatum/Brown tandem.Rohrbach: 8. Tatum and Brown won a championship together, and that's forever. They are unquestionably the most successful All-Star duo of their generation. They have appeared in and won more playoff games than Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant did as a tandem on the Los Angeles Lakers. But Tatum and Brown have only won one championship, despite two trips to the NBA Finals and five Eastern Conference finals appearances. Winning two would put them in rare air, but it has been almost a decade since anyone has won multiple championships.Haberstroh: 8. Five Eastern Conference finals trips, two Finals appearances and a title. Not bad. It's hard to have asked for more from two stars with overlapping skillsets. As successful as they've been, I think the partnership has run its course.Iko: 9. In the era of parity, the Celtics have been extremely consistent at the top of the Eastern standings with Tatum and Brown in the fold. Sure, they've let some conference finals slip away. Yea, two trips to the Finals could (and should) have resulted in two championships. But there are at least 28 teams that would have swapped fortunes with Boston over the last 10 years, so this union has been nothing short of a success.Devine: 10. No team has more regular-season or playoff wins than the Celtics since 2017-18, Tatum and Brown's first season together. Boston has won 65% of its games when those two have shared the floor. They've made the playoffs every year, won at least one series seven times, made the Eastern Conference finals five times, won the East twice, and won one NBA championship, in an era where nobody repeats. Maybe I'm a softy, but how is that not a 10?Has Jaylen Brown played his last game in a Celtics uniform?Haberstroh: Yes. Boston's asking price may be too steep for now, but I sense that this is just part of negotiations. The Celtics aren't up against some sort of hard deadline, so this will probably take a while to play itself out. Brown had an amazing run in Boston. Ten seasons with one club is an eternity in today's NBA.Iko: Yes,I think so. It almost has to be. Can't put the toothpaste back in the bottle once it's been squeezed.Devine: No, I don't think so. But I'll be keeping an eye on Twitch, just in case.Rohrbach: Yes. Brown and Tatum have yet to turn 30 years old, and there was still plenty of runway left to contend, so long as Boston put the right pieces around them, but the damage is done. The Celtics had a shot to shut the door on rumors involving Brown, even after their pursuit of Antetokounmpo, but they have left it open, reportedly engaging with multiple teams on trade discussions about the two-time All-NBA pick. How does any relationship come back from that?0 Comments 0 Shares 193 Views 0 Reviews
