Novak Djokovic surpasses Roger Federer for most Wimbledon wins on men's side with 106th victory, advances to quarters
If Novak Djokovic goes all the way, his eighth Wimbledon title would tie Roger Federer for the most in men's tennis during the Open Era. (AP Photo/Brian Inganga)AP Photo/Brian IngangaNovak Djokovic's quest toward his elusive 25th major championship continued on Sunday in the fourth round at Wimbledon. In the process, the 39-year-old Serbian etched his name into All England Club history. With a 7-6(6), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Russian qualifier Roman Safiullin, Djokovic surpassed Swiss legend Roger Federer for the most Wimbledon singles wins on the men's side to date. Djokovic has 106 and counting. That said, he'll need 14 more victories at London's Grand Slam to match Martina Navratilova, a Czech-American who tops the women's list with 120 singles wins at the grass-court major. No man has won more matches at Wimbledon, ever.Novak Djokovic overtakes Roger Federer's record to secure a historic 106th gentlemens singles win at The Championships pic.twitter.com/sJ6Ee5nt7u Wimbledon (@Wimbledon) July 5, 2026Navratilova retired with nine Wimbledon titles. Federer clocked out with eight. Djokovic's been stuck at seven since 2022. But, after previously discussing the importance of preserving energy early in major tournaments, he made it through the first three rounds of this year's Wimbledon with relative ease.None of those matches went to five sets. Thanks to Friday's record-breaking feat, he keeps on a collision course with world No. 1 and defending Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner, who faces Japans Shintaro Mochizuki on Sunday. Djokovic fell in straight sets to the now-24-year-old Italian phenom in last year's semifinals. Sinner and Djokovic are set to meet there again this year if both win their respective quarterfinal matches. Djokovic proposed on Friday that he and Federer play for Wimbledon win No. 106. Instead, it came against Safiullin, who has dropped to 132nd in the ATP rankings following a collection of injuries. It's important to note, however, that Safiullin was a Wimbledon quarterfinalist in 2023.It was a worthy matchup, particularly after Safiullin took down Brazil's Joo Fonseca, the No. 24 seed, 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in the third round. After all, it was Fonseca who took down Djokovic in the previous Grand Slam at Roland-Garros.Still, Djokovic's offering was enticing, as the nostalgia it invoked was undeniable. Djokovic held a 27-23 advantage over Federer on tour. Now he's ahead of Federer on the Wimbledon singles wins leaderboard. Federer, though, maintains a one-title lead at the All England Club for now, at least.

USA Star Folarin Balogun Cleared To Play In World Cup Match vs. Belgium
FIFA has cleared the way for U.S. mens national team forward Folarin Balogun to play in the USAs World Cup round of 16 match against Belgium in Seattle on Monday, multiple sources confirmed to us Sunday. The news was first reported by The Athletic. Balogun who scored the game-winning goal in last week's round of 32 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina was shown a controversial red card later in the match, triggering an automatic one-game suspension. But under FIFAs own protocols, the play should not have been flagged to Brazilian referee Raphael Claus by the video assistant, who asked Claus to review the play on the monitor following a slow-motion replay of the incident. Balogun was not even cautioned by Claus on the field. While the U.S. Soccer Federation had no recourse to appeal the red card under FIFA rules, global soccers governing body made the decision to allow Balogun to play in the Americans next match. Balogun leads the USA with three goals at this World Cup.This is a developing story. It will be updated.

Brazil Starting XI vs Norway: Confirmed Team News and Predicted Lineup
Brazil Starting XI vs Norway: Confirmed Team News and Predicted LineupBrazil vs Norway: Predicted XI, Lucas Paqueta Doubt and Vinicius Junior Focus Ahead of Norway TestBrazil are through, but the win over Japan raised a couple of issues that matter before the meeting with Norway. Lucas Paqueta went off at half-time, Casemiro followed before the end, and while there is optimism around the latter, Paqueta looks the bigger concern. If Paqueta does not make it, Danilo Santos is expected to come in. That is the obvious adjustment, and probably the only significant one. Carlo Ancelotti is not expected to rip up a side that did enough to reach the knockout rounds, even if the performance against Japan was hardly flawless.Brazil predicted XIAlisson should keep his place behind a back four of Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel and Douglas Santos. In midfield, Bruno Guimaraes and Casemiro are set to anchor things, with Danilo Santos likely to step in if Paqueta is ruled out. Further forward, Rayan and Matheus Cunha should support Vinicius Junior.Predicted Brazil XI: Alisson, Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel, Douglas Santos, Guimaraes, Casemiro, Danilo Santos, Rayan, Cunha, Vini Jr.Lucas Paqueta and Casemiro concernsCasemiro was substituted shortly before Gabriel Martinelli scored the late winner against Japan, but the expectation is that he will be fit enough to face Norway. Paqueta is a different case. Brazil are waiting, and that usually tells you enough. When a player comes off at half-time in a knockout match, it is rarely trivial.Raphinha remains unavailable, so the room for attacking changes is limited. That helps explain why Matheus Cunha is likely to keep his place despite failing to add to his three goals in the tournament before being replaced after 65 minutes last time out.Vinicius Junior carries Brazil attackGabriel Martinelli changed the game with his winner, but he is still expected to start on the bench. The same applies to Endrick, whose substitute appearance against Japan brought little. That leaves Brazil leaning heavily on Vinicius Junior again, and there is no mystery as to why.The winger has been one of the best players at this World Cup, producing four goals and one assist so far. Against a Norway side built around Erling Haaland, Brazils route to control may come from their widest threat. Right now, Vinicius Junior is the one carrying it.World Cup match detailsBrazil face Norway at 9pm BST on Sunday, July 5, 2026. The match will be shown on ITV1.

USA Striker Folarin Balogun Cleared To Play After Red Card: Sports World Reacts
Surprise! FOX Sports' Doug McIntyre reported on Sunday afternoon that United States forward Folarin Balogun has been cleared to play in the country's Monday night round of 16 matchup against Belgium. As for the backstory, Balogun was given a red card in the 64th minute of play of Team USA's round of 32 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, leading to the United States being down a player the rest of the match. Granted, they were still victorious, winning 2-0. Moreover, Balogun, who scored in the 45th minute, was originally set to be suspended for the round of 16 match before Sunday's ruling, which determined that he should've never been assessed the red card. In the wake of the news about Balogun, Team USA alumni and the sports world at large took to X to express their excitement: Check back for updates!

Max Verstappen Reaches Breaking Point Over Dangerous Red Bull Defect: I Feel Like Going Home
The 2026 season has been an unmitigated disaster for Red Bull Racing, but the British Grand Prix may have officially pushed Max Verstappen to his breaking point. After suffering a premature DNF just six laps into the race at Silverstone, the reigning multi-time world champion did not hold back in his post-race media duties. While speaking with SkySports F1, Verstappen delivered a brutally honest assessment of his machinery, citing not only a severe lack of pace but a terrifying mechanical flaw that actively put him in danger. Here is why the former championship juggernaut is completely fed up.Red Bulls DRS Death TrapSilverstone is one of the fastest, most aerodynamically demanding circuits on the Formula 1 calendar. Relying on massive downforce to navigate corners like Copse and Maggotts, a fully functioning rear wing is non-negotiable for driver safety. But according to Verstappen, his Red Bull was actively failing to re-engage its downforce after the Drag Reduction System (DRS) was deployed. The rear wing doesnt close fully, Verstappen revealed when discussing his terrifying on-track accident. Once is okay, but twice is already something dangerous.Driving a Formula 1 car into a high-speed braking zone with the rear wing stuck open is essentially a death wish. The fact that this mechanical failure happened multiple times during the weekend highlights a severe quality control issue within the Red Bull garage, and Verstappens frustration is entirely justified.A Tractor on Hard TyresEven when the rear wing was functioning, the car simply did not have the raw pace to compete with the likes of Mercedes, Ferrari, and McLaren.Currently languishing in seventh place in the Drivers Championship, Verstappens comments reflect the reality of a car that is fundamentally flawed in both straight-line speed and tire management.NORTHAMPTON, ENGLAND JULY 03: Max Verstappen of the Netherlands and Oracle Red Bull Racing prepares to drive during practice ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone Circuit on July 03, 2026 in Northampton, England. (Photo by Mark Thompson/Getty Images) // Getty Images / Red Bull Content Pool // SI202607030238 // Usage for editorial use only //Its painful and frustrating. You try everything you can, Verstappen lamented. I havent been happy with the car. Its lacking top speed, and with the hards were very slow. I havent enjoyed it at all.The numbers back up his misery. Red Bull has plummeted to fourth in the Constructors standings, a staggering 205 points behind the dominant Mercedes squad. The aerodynamic dominance that defined the team just a few years ago has completely evaporated.Verstappen is Checked OutPerhaps the most alarming takeaway from the weekend isnt the broken rear wing or the slow hard tiresit is Verstappens mental state. Formula 1s most fiercely competitive driver sounds completely exhausted by the ongoing engineering failures.I feel like going home and not thinking about Formula 1, he stated bluntly. For a driver who notoriously spends his free time racing on simulators, admitting that he wants to completely disconnect from the sport is a massive red flag. If Red Bull cannot figure out how to build a safe, competitive car under the current regulations, they risk entirely alienating their star driver.
