One Vikings draft pick predicted to be a bust in 2026
The Minnesota Vikings haven't had many hits in the draft in recent years. Could their top pick from the 2026 draft class be their next big disappointment? In April, the Vikings shocked the NFL landscape by drafting Florida defensive lineman Caleb Banks with the 18th overall pick. Two foot surgeries since August 2025 led most to believe Banks could potentially slide into the second round. But Minnesota is convinced Banks will be healthy when training camp begins later this month.Still, not everyone is convinced Banks will be healthy or even live up to his potential. Moe Moton of Bleacher Report listed each NFL team's biggest bust for the 2026 season, whether a draft pick or a veteran signing. Moton listed Banks as the Vikings' biggest bust, citing health concerns. The Minnesota Vikings selected Banks with the No. 18 overall pick in the draft, and he's yet to participate in practice. Head coach Kevin O'Connell expects the 6'6", 327-pound defensive tackle to be ready for training camp (h/t ESPN'sKevin Seifert).Even if Banks is on the practice field in a couple of weeks, the Vikings probably won't ramp him up to full speed right away. After missing spring practices, the rookie first-rounder may see limited reps, which may delay his start to the season and push for a prominent role on the defensive line. It's hard to argue with the choice because of the range of potential outcomes for Banks' playing career. The Vikings were also fairly conservative in free agency. So, unless Moton believes Kyler Murray or Jauan Jennings would be busts, Banks makes sense, if for nothing else other than the questions surrounding his foot.Minnesota is expecting Banks to be healthy and grow into a game-changer on the interior of the defensive line. But if he fails to do that, experts such as Moton believe the experiment could end poorly for the rookie. This article originally appeared on Vikings Wire: One Vikings draft pick predicted to be a bust in 2026

FIFA's Four Best Teams Will Make Star-Studded World Cup Semis A Treat For Fans
In each of the two epic quarterfinals we witnessed on Saturday Englands extra-time win over Norway, Argentinas extra-time victory against Switzerland there were long stretches where the underdog seemed destined to pull off the upsets and advance to this weeks semis. Norway led the Three Lions. The Swiss equalized and had the momentum with just over 20 of the regular 90 minutes remaining. Both losers understandably felt aggrieved; the Norwegian players insisted that Englands first goal shouldnt have counted, and had what couldve been its own game-winner nullified after an intervention by the video assistant referee. VAR reduced Switzerland to 10 men vs. Lionel Messi and the rest of the defending World Cup champions, rendering the outcome inevitable. However it happened, here we are: with FIFAs four top-ranked teams No. 1 France, followed by Argentina, Spain and the English in the semifinals for the first time in tournament history. Its a remarkable statistic when you think about it. Only eight nations have won the World Cup over 22 editions since the inaugural 1930 competition. The decisive match is almost always a meeting between past winners; just three of the 14 finalists since 2002 hadnt previously lifted the trophy: Belgium and Croatia in 2018, and Spain eight years earlier. Yet in the semis, chaos has long reigned. Non-traditional powers have littered the World Cup's last four this century. Unlike the final, the semis are not normally a roll-call of the usual suspects. The Croats also got to the semis in Qatar in 2022. Moroccos Cinderella run four years ago made them the first African nation and the first from the Arab world to get that far. Portugal, South Korea and Trkiye have also reached the semifinal stage this century. By contrast, all four countries still alive at this World Cup are anything but upstarts. The list includes current holders (Argentina), current runner-up (France), and the titlists from 2018 (France) and 2010 (Spain). England, which is hoping to end its 60-year World Cup drought this summer, was a semifinalist in 2018 and reached the last two European Championship finals. Each of the semifinalists features at least one legitimate global superstar. Theres living legend Messi, the GOAT, who at age 39 has scored eight goals and is tied atop the Golden Boot race with Le Bleus ace Kylian Mbapp. Three Lions duo Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane have six goals apiece, with Bellingham scoring four of those in England's last two matches. Meantime, La Roja boasts teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, the player widely considered as the heir apparent to Messi and Mbapp as soccer's best, if he isn't better already. Though Yamal has had a quiet World Cup so far, the biggest game(s) yet await. The match-ups could hardly be better, either. Tuesdays France-Spain contest (kickoff at 3 p.m. ET on FOX and FOX One) in Dallas is a rematch of the Euro 2024 semi, when Yamals golazo helped La Roja best its cross-border rival. England and Argentina will reignite an even more contentious rivalry on Wednesday (kickoff at 3 p.m. ET on FOX and FOX One) in Atlanta; the Albiceleste are 2-0 against England in World Cup knockout games all-time. There are more irresistible storylines. Can Messi lead Argentina to consecutive World Cup triumphs, which nobody has done since Peles Brazil repeated in 1962? Will Mbapp reach a third straight final, or will Yamal play for the most coveted prize in sports next Sunday at New York New Jersey Stadium, just six days after celebrating his 19th birthday? Could this finally be the year its coming home to England for what would be the first time in most of their supporters' lifetimes? In what was already the biggest and best World Cup ever staged, its shaping up as a fitting last week. History is about to be written, and we all have a front-row seat.

Texas Rangers hit All-Star break atop AL West after walking off Astros
Brandon Nimmo is mobbed by his Texas Rangers teammates after delivering the game-winning hit Sunday to walk-off the Astros heading into the All-Star break (Raymond Carlin III-Imagn Images). The American League West leaders at the All-Star break? Its the Texas Rangers, who stunned the Astros on Sunday with a walk-off win to cap a winning homestand. No, the Texas Rangers arent perfect. Far from it.Their latest issue is a bullpen that has only one pitcher who is trusted at all times, Jacob Latz. He hopped on a plane Sunday evening for the All-Star Game in Philadelphia.Injuries continue to hound the team, with Corey Seager still dealing with back woes and with near constant worry about outfielder Wyatt Langford and now right-hander Jacob deGrom.Despite their flaws at the All-Star break there isnt a facet that cant improve the Rangers are in first place in the American League West. Its not much of a lead, 1 1/2 games over the Mariners, and the Rangers are the only team in the division above .500.But they are atop the AL West, and they are 49-47. Thats not insignificant. They have survived and continue to buy themselves time to improve over the final 66 games. Were in a decent spot heading into heading into the break, right fielder Brandon Nimmo said. Were in first place. I think we can still play better baseball, but I think that were moving in the right direction.Nimmo delivered the winning hit Sunday, the third of three singles to open the ninth inning against Astros closer Josh Hader. Wyatt Langford opened with a sharp grounder to left field and moved to second on an error, and he went to third as Josh Jung followed with a liner to left.Nimmos bouncer up the middle hit off Haders glove and past a drawn-in infield for a 6-5 walk-off win.The Rangers led 4-1 in the seventh before the Astros tied things against a beleaguered bullpen that needs reinforcements. Houston pulled ahead in the eighth on a Cam Smith homer, but Kyle Higashioka matched it in the bottom half for a 5-5 tie.Latz (2-1) posted a scoreless ninth. It wasnt easy, which is par for the course with a team that has fluttered much of the season. They have endured injuries, primarily to Seager, Langford, Jack Leiter and Jakob Junis. and are playing things save with deGrom after his left glute flared up in his start Tuesday. He wont throw off a mound until after the season resumes Friday at Atlanta. He felt he could have made his scheduled Sunday, isnt on the injured list and could pitch within the next five games.MacKenzie Gore allowed one run in four innings while pitching on three days rest, perhaps the grittiest effort in the gritty win. It was the Rangers 17th come-from-behind win of the season and their second walk-off win of a 4-2 homes (2-1 vs. the Angels and the Astros). The Rangers schedule is favorable the remainder of the season, though the next five series are against contending teams. Three of them are division leaders, and the other two are against AL West foes Seattle and Houston. Those five series lead to the Aug. 3 trade deadline, and the front office needs to see the team hang around before making deals. The Rangers, though, feel as if they have some momentum, or at least some happy thoughts as they scatter for the All-Star break. You want to feel good going into the break, manager Skip Schumaker said. For our club, if you blow a lead late and then lose a game like that, it doesnt feel great, even though you have three or four days of rest to kind of forget about it. You just dont want to think about it for four days.Help is coming for the rotation, with left-hander Jordan Montgomery potentially back in the next two weeks. The bullpen needs immediate help, but it might be hard to find with so many teams feeling as if they have a chance to grab at least a wild-card spot and unwilling to trade now.The Rangers are going to have to keep surviving. The offense has been much better, bailing out the bullpen throughout the homestand. The rotation needs to log more innings to allow Schumaker to lean on the small group of relievers he does trust. Its not going to be easy, but nothing has been easy so far for the Rangers. At the All-Star break, though, theyre in first place. Thats not insignificant.Jeff Wilson, jwilson@alldlls.com

Neymar The Gambler? Brazil Star Enters World Series Of Poker After World Cup Exit
It appears that Neymar knows when to hold them and knows when to fold them. The Brazilian soccer star took part in the 2026 World Series of Poker tournament in Las Vegas, which includes a $10,000 main event, with video circulating of his presence at the event on Saturday night. Neymar actually competed in the 2025 edition of the event, as well, reaching the final table. With that said, Neymar didn't have that Raymond Babbitt or Alan Garner in him this year, as he didn't advance past Day 1 of the tournament. Neymar's participation in the yearly poker showdown comes in the wake of Brazil's World Cup round-of-16 loss to Erling Haaland and Norway on July 5. Brazil won Group C with a 2-1-0 record by playing Morocco to a 1-1 draw and defeating Haiti (3-0) and Scotland (3-0). They later defeated Japan in the round of 32 (2-1) before being eliminated by Norway in the round of 16 (2-1). Neymar was subbed into action for Brazil in the 68th minute against Norway and would later score the country's last goal of the tournament on a penalty kick in stoppage time. He only appeared in two games for Brazil in the World Cup, having entered the tournament with a right calf injury. Neymar came off the bench in both of the contests he played in. The 2026 World Cup marked the fourth and final World Cup that the La Liga and Ligue 1 legend will play for Brazil (2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026); Neymar announced his retirement from international play on July 5. Neymar, who has a combined 457 goals and 262 assists as a professional, tallied nine goals in 15 career World Cup matches and 80 goals in 129 games overall for Brazil. Outside international play, the 34-year-old Neymar has spent the last two seasons with Santos in Brazil's Serie A.

New York Mets 40-57 Start Marks Franchises Worst First Half Since 1995
After starting the season with high expectations and a payroll to match, the New York Mets stumbled into the All-Star break following their worst first half in 31 years. Shortstop Francisco Lindor misplayed a potential game-ending, double-play grounder for an error that sparked Boston's comeback in a 3-2, 10-inning win over the Mets on Sunday. New York lost for the 16th time in 22 games and at 40-57 matched its season low of 17 games under .500. The Mets had not been 17 under at the All-Star break since they were 25-44 in 1995, when the seasons start was delayed until late April by the players strike. They are 17 under at the break in a full season for the first time since 1993, when they opened 27-60 and finished 59-103. "I think everybody understands what needs to happen going into the second half," said interim manager Andy Green, who fell to 6-10 since taking over for Carlos Mendoza on June 26. "Theres cleaner, better baseball for us to play. We all bear a measure of responsibility for it. This organization, the fan base, deserve better baseball." New York squandered seven scoreless innings from rookie Zach Thornton and a pair of RBIs by Lindor in just his second two-hit game since his return from the injured list. President of baseball operations David Stearns emphasized run prevention and a more resourceful offense while trading Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil and allowing Pete Alonso, the franchises home run leader, and closer Edwin Daz to leave as free agents. New York ranks 12th in the NL with 398 runs and has rarely fielded its optimal lineup. Lindor, Francisco Alvarez, Jorge Polanco, Marcus Semien and Luis Robert Jr. all opening day starters - have combined to miss 259 games. Juan Soto, New Yorks lone All-Star, was sidelined for 15 games with a left quadriceps strain in April. Bo Bichette, signed in January to play third, is hitting .255 39 percentage points below his career average entering the year. He started the first 94 games before relegated to pinch-hitting this weekend due to sore legs. Mets pitchers have a 4.27 ERA, almost a quarter of a run higher than last years 4.03 mark. Opening day starter Freddy Peralta, acquired from Milwaukee in a January trade, has a career-worst 4.66 ERA. Devin Williams, who blew a save for the second time in a week, has a 4.83 ERA. "It hasnt been a lot of fun," Williams said. "Not a lot of celebrating going on in this clubhouse right now." New York is 12 games out of the last NL wild card and will begin the second half with 19 straight games against teams currently occupying a playoff position. "Unacceptable," said Lindor, who is batting .216 with a .671 OPS in 40 games. "Just encourages us to continue to fight, At the end of the day, thats the only thing we can do. Were going to try to be better. Were going to play as hard as we can in the second half and hopefully we put ourselves in a much better position because right now, its not where we want to be." Reporting by the Associated Press.
