MLB insider reveals team most likely to go get Tarik Skubal at trade deadline
The Detroit Tigers have played much better baseball recently to climb back into the American League playoff chase. It will still take some doing for the team to overcome a dreadful start and get into the postseason. Not many people believe that the reigning American League Cy Young winner will be around to see if the Tigers can accomplish that because is is clearly the most coveted commodity for other teams as the MLB trade deadline nears. Even though Skubal has made it clear that he wants to stick around the Motor City for at least a little longer.Well soon have resolution on his immediate future. And whichever franchise gets to send him out to the mound every five days will be thrilled. Hes a fan favorite in Detroit despite all the drama of the last several months and if he got a new home, those fans would go berserk.Skubal at the trade deadlineESPNs baseball insider Jeff Passan added his insight into the biggest trade deadline character and question on Mondays Get Up, along the way revealing which team is most likely to acquire his services. If theres a team thats gonna go get Tarik SKubal, it is the Los Angeles Dodgers, Passan said.Such a development would not sit well with 29 other fanbases. The Dodgers have the best record in baseball at 61-36 and are seeking their third straight World Series. Throw a dart at their roster and its likely to hit an All-Star.They can pretty much do what they want at this point, Passan said before pointing out that the team has been active and not so active during previous trade deadlines during their dynastic run.Skubals futureLook, Im a Tigers fan and believe Skubal is going to stay in Detroit. But if he does land with the Dodgers, crushing my teams hopes and only making Los Angeles more of a wagon, then so be it. The Dodgers can do pretty much anything they want at this point and still win a World Series. Its downright scary to think of how many of those they could string together if they got Skubals services for years to come. The reason theres no reason to let what the Dodgers do get under your skin is because its so competent. It feels like an overwhelming majority of sports fans spend their lives decrying local ownership and all the boneheaded decisions that are made. We suffer because organizations cant figure it out and never put a premium on winning. So why be made at the one who has perfected it?Of course thats easy for me to say now. Check back a few hours after Skubal to the Dodgers becomes a reality and youll likely find a broken man.

4 Takeaways From Ryan Blaney's Epic Late-Night Win At Atlanta
ECHOPARK SPEEDWAY (Hampton, Ga.) Ryan Blaney dominated the Cup race Sunday night that lasted until early Monday morning. But as is typical for the 1.5-mile high-banked track, he needed to make a late move for the win. Blaney thanks to pushes by Bubba Wallace and then Christopher Bell got by Carson Hocevar on the outside on the final lap and was able to remain out front as the drivers behind him battled to earn his second victory of the season. The Team Penske driver led 171 of the 263 laps. Here are my takeaways: 1. Long Night, Deserving Winner The race featured a rain interruption of 3 hours, 9 minutes which resulted in a race that didnt finish until 1:45 a.m. ET on Monday. Blaney was good in the laps before the rain on Lap 109 and afterward. He was good even after he hit the wall after getting pinched into it late in the race by Bubba Wallace. He felt a vibration, but it was only paint and cement in the wheel well and Blaneys car was still a rocket. "Itried to make a move and just got loose and hit the fence," Blaney said in his television interview after the race. "I think it's just concrete in the wheels and paint and stuff like that. "Luckily, it still drove fairly decent. I'm happy we were able to make back up for it." 2. Wallace Disputes Last-Lap Penalty Wallace crossed the finish line in second but was ruled to have advanced his position by going below the double-line that separates the apron from the racing surface. The 23XI Racing driver was dropped to the last car on the lead lap, costing him 27 points, as he placed 29th. Wallace contended that, while he went below the yellow line, he remained in third long enough before getting second at the finish line. NASCAR determined the move allowed him to improve his position from third to second. "[The rule] says advancing your position, which I did not do,"Wallace told me and other reporters after the race. "I stayed third, and I was all over the brakes to make sure I did not advance. As soon as I turned, I'm like, I'm going to wreck' and got on the brakes and kept underneath me and stealing it up side by side [with the lead pack]. "That move should have propelled us to the lead, and it didn't because I knew it was wrong because my car did not like that move. My car did not like that move. ... I stayed third from entry to [Turn] 3 all the way until 50 yards away [from the finish line]." 3. Hocevar Has No Friends Carson Hocevar was leading going into the final lap and finished third. However, he doesnt view Atlanta as a race that slipped away. He didnt have any friends on the final lap and knows he likely wouldnt because of the way he has raced and frustrated other drivers. Also, there were no Chevrolets in the lead pack. "I look in my mirror, man, its all Toyotas," Hocevar said. "I don't know where the Chevys were, but it was just me. I was all alone.... People basically are going to choose who is going to win the race. They sure arent going to pick me." 4. Bell Finished Second ... Again Christopher Bell finished second for the fifth time this year. But while Bell was in the mix late in the race, he didnt have a race-winning day. "I just felt like I didnt quite have the speed to be up there with Ryan," the Joe Gibbs Racing driver said in a broadcast interview after the race. "I could be up there in second or third, but it seemed like a couple of guys with faster cars could always get by me." 4 . Whats Next: North Wilkesboro NASCAR heads to North Wilkesboro for the track's first points race in 30 years after having the All-Star event there the last three seasons. Drivers will compete for 450 laps on the 0.625-mile oval. There are six races left in the regular season. Only two of the 16 spots in the postseason Chase have been clinched; Denny Hamlin and Tyler Reddick clinched spots at Atlanta. The races remaining: North Wilkesboro, Indianapolis, Iowa, Richmond, New Hampshire and Daytona.

The Open Championship: Why was Wyndham Clark practicing with a coat hanger?
When youre a two-time U.S. Open champion, you get a whole lot of benefit of the doubt. After all, youve proven you have what it takes to win, so the rest of the field and the gallery ought to be modeling what youre doing, no matter how weird it might be.That said, Wyndham Clark took unconventional practice routines to a new level on Monday at Royal Birkdale when he stepped to the practice range and busted out a wooden coat hanger. Yes, really: An interesting choice of equipment from US Open champion Wyndham Clark as he dials in on the range.Watch Live at the Range: https://t.co/SPpmcmIxV3pic.twitter.com/6NFPbn80Pb The Open (@TheOpen) July 13, 2026Granted, this is a sport where players use everything from pool cues to pool noodles to help tighten up their swings, so a coat hanger isnt the strangest swing aid. Still, where exactly did this idea come from?Clark, who won the U.S. Open at Shinnecock last month, spoke to the media after his range session and explained."You won't see me doing a bunch of that stuff the rest of the week," he said. "My swing's gotten a little off. I kind of hit it kind of crappy (at last weeks Genesis Scottish Open). Yeah, the coat hanger is for wrist angle, trying to get a little more inflection in my left wrist so I can square the face more. That's just what it is." (For the record, Clark finished at -9, T13 and eight strokes off Tom Kims winning score at the Scottish.)Clark later said he and his swing coach settled on the hanger technique, and hell typically hit 15 to 20 shots with it in his hands.Expect to see these marketed soon with some goofy name like the Velo Triangle and a retail price of $199. Clark better get a piece of that action. In semi-related news, this years Open Championship introduced a new slate of expectations for both fan and player conduct. Clark has more than a little experience with both, most recently last month at Shinnecock when he was the target of considerable fan abuse on his major-winning Sunday. They were giving me everything they got, Clark said Monday, and I felt like I overcame all of the challenges. He also did a little bit of preliminary PR work with the British crowds: They're the best. I think any golfer will tell you they love playing over here, he said. The fans really respect the game, they respect the players, and they really understand golf. If you hit it into a tough spot and make the correct play or the smart play, the prudent play, they clap; they understand sometimes 20 feet is a great shot. So, yeah, I really enjoy the fans over here.On the other side of the equation, players will now be held to a much more specific level of conduct during the tournament. Clark both smashed a locker at the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont, and lost his temper during the 2025 PGA Championship and smashed his driver. If a player does something similar again, penalties await, via the R&A, the Open Championships organizing body:If a players (or their caddies) behavior is so far removed from what is expected in the spirit of the game of golf, the R&A has said in a statement, in accordance with Rule 1.2b, the Chief Referee, in consultation with the Chief Championships Officer, may issue an official warning or apply a penalty of two strokes or disqualification, taking account of the frequency, impact or potential impact, intent and severity of the misconduct. An official warning does not need to be given prior to applying a penalty of two strokes or disqualification.Clark tees off at 10:04 a.m. ETon Thursday alongside Cameron Young and Ludvig Aberg (full tee times here). The coat hanger, presumably, will be back in his flat.
