SPORTS.YAHOO.COM2026 Mets Draft profile: AJ KrodelVilla Park, California native Andrew James Krodel attended the eponymously named high school in the district, lettering three years with the Spartans. In total, he hit .288/.356/.352 in 80 games and posted a 3.70 ERA in 98.1 innings, allowing 91 hits, walking 29, and striking out 90. The numbers, nor the fastball that hovered around 90 MPH, got him very little buzz in the baseball hot bed that is California and as such, the right-hander went uncalled in the 2023 MLB Draft, attending the University of California Santa Barbara that fall.Krodel appeared in 3 games for the Gauchos in his freshman season, allowing 4 earned runs in 3.2 innings- a 9.82 ERA- giving up 2 hits, walking 3, and striking out 4. He pitched for the Cowlitz Black Bears of the West Coast League that summer and had a more impressive showing for himself, posting a 2.25 ERA in 24.0 innings over 7 games, allowing 17 hits, walking 13, and striking out 16. When he returned to Santa Barbara, head coach Checketts gave the sophomore a little more leeway, but his performance was still subpar. Appearing in 11 games, the right-hander posted a 6.18 ERA in 27.2 innings, allowing 23 hits, walking 17, and striking out 37.That summer, Krodel supplemented his workload by pitching for a summer collegiate league, this time staying local and playing for the Santa Barbara Foresters of the California Collegiate League, playing with fellow 2026 draftee Aidan Keenan and 2025 Mets draft 13th rounder Frank Camarillo. Once again, against the competition there, the right-hander thrived, posting a 1.74 ERA in 31.0 innings over 7 starts, allowing 22 hits, walking 9, and striking out 44. Despite his success as a starter, pitching limited innings against an entire lineup, coach Checketts had the right-hander remain in the Gauchos bullpen for the 2026 season. The right-hander ended up appearing in 25 games and posting a 5.66 ERA in 35.0 innings, allowing 42 hits, walking 17, and striking out 42.The 64, 200-pound right-hander throws from a high-three-quarters arm slot with a long arm action through the back and above-average extension off the mound. The right-hander throws a four-pitch mix despite primarily pitching out of the bullpen, utilizing a two-seam fastball, slider, curveball, and circle changeup. His two-seam fastball has below-average velocity, sitting in the low-90s and very rarely topping out much higher. Despite that, the pitch has been an effective offering thanks to its rare combination of below-average spin rates but above-average induced vertical break readings. Thanks to the active spin the baseball does get, the pitch produces seam shifted wake effects that causes it to appear to resist gravity while breaking arm-side, diving late.Of the pitches he complements his unique fastball with, his circle changeup is likely the best of the bunch. Sitting in the low-to-mid-80s, the pitch has racked up strikeouts against left-handed hitters and right-handed hitters alike thanks to its extreme arm-side fade. His mid-to-high-70s curveball and high-70s-to-low-80s sweeping slider both show some promise, especially his slider, but are both are still very raw as pitches, relying more on overall movement than the sharpness of the break.Just as batters have had a hard time dealing with the movement on his pitch mix, striking out at a 27.1% over his three years combined with the Gauchos, Krodel generally has trouble commanding his repertoire. The right-hander often misses his spots, leading to a high 12.1% walk rate over the course of his collegiate career, almost 5% higher than the MLB average. Being unable to command his pitches has often caused the right-hander to try to finesse them into the strike zone, often leading to pitches in hittable parts of the strike zone and disastrous results. Batters hit .263/.366/.435 against him with a .351 BABIP, with a poor 36.7% groundball rate, 15.3% line drive rate, 48.0% flyball rate, and 14.9% HR/FB rate.0 Komentáře 0 Sdílení 142 Shlédnutí 0 Hodnocení

WWW.FOXSPORTS.COMEngland vs. Argentina Combined XI: Lionel Messi, Harry Kane Lead Dream LineupEngland will take on Argentina in the World Cup semifinals on Wednesday, July 15, at Atlanta Stadium, with both nations competing for a place in the final. It is an intercontinental rivalry shaped by memorable World Cup encounters and intensified by political tensions away from the pitch. The two countries have not faced each other since 2005, while this will also mark the first time in Lionel Messis illustrious career that he has played against England. England possess one of the most talented squads in the tournament, while Argentina are filled with players who understand what it takes to win at the highest level. Below is our combined England-Argentina XI ahead of Wednesdays World Cup semifinal: Formation: 4-4-2 Goalkeeper Both Premier League goalkeepers have been between the posts for their respective nations at multiple major international tournaments, and both have been critical to their national teams success in the past and present. Emiliano Martnez gets the slight nod as the better shot-stopper of the two. He has come up huge for Argentina as they won two Copa Amrica titles and a World Cup, including massive performances in penalty shootouts. Of course, his most iconic moment came in the final minute of extra time in the 2022 World Cup final, when he made the save of a lifetime against Randal Kolo Muani. That stop kept Argentina alive, and they went on to win the final on penalties. Verdict: Emiliano Martnez, Argentina Right Back Nahuel Molina continues to command the right-back position for Argentina and scored a huge goal in the 2022 World Cup quarterfinal against the Netherlands. But Reece James, despite being banged up at times, gets the nod pretty clearly. When healthy, James is widely recognized as one of the best right backs in world football. Verdict: Reece James Right Center Back Ezri Konsa has been versatile for England, playing as the center back next to Marc Guhi while also providing cover at right back because of Englands injuries and suspensions in that area. His versatility has been important to Thomas Tuchel. Cristian Romero gets the nod, though, as he has anchored Argentinas back line for many years and continues to be one of the most reliable defenders in this side. Verdict: Cristian Romero Left Center Back Marc Guhi made the move to Manchester City in January and completely changed the outlook of a back line that had been struggling. He has provided that necessary backbone defensively for England, consistently performing as one of their most reliable center backs throughout this World Cup and the last European Championship. Lisandro Martnezs ball-playing ability and physicality are key for Argentina, but Guhi gets the nod here. Verdict: Marc Guehi Left Back Nicols Tagliafico feels like he has been part of this Argentina squad for decades, and he has always been that consistent piece at left back for his national team. But on a technical level, Nico OReilly is really out of this world. Even as a converted midfielder, he has shown his recovery speed and ability to handle the defensive demands of playing fullback. OReilly is one of those youngsters at this World Cup who is showing that he can go to the very top. Verdict: Nico O'Reilly Holding Midfielder Elliot Andersons ability off the ball, along with his passing range, has been important for England while playing in that double pivot. He looks like one of those players who will be involved in the English setup for a long time. But Enzo Fernndez is one of the best midfielders in the world. He is playing a slightly deeper role than he usually does for Chelsea, but he is still doing it at a high level. Enzo gets the nod in this one, but Anderson is a proper player. Verdict: Enzo Fernndez Left Central Midfielder Due to formation issues, Anthony Gordon is listed as a left central midfielder, and he has shown signs of why Barcelona brought him into the club for $80 million. But Alexis Mac Allister has to get the nod because of the winner he is. He played a huge role in Argentina winning the 2022 World Cup and Liverpool winning the Premier League, doing all the dirty work in midfield while also having the ability to be a threat going forward. He showed that again in the quarterfinals against Switzerland, scoring the go-ahead goal in the 10th minute. In those big games, you want Mac Allister on your team. Verdict: Alexis Mac Allister Right Central Midfielder Coming off winning the Premier League, Declan Rice would love to double up by adding a World Cup to his rsum. Playing in the double pivot with Elliot Anderson has been important to England, especially earlier in the tournament, and his set-piece delivery has also been a real weapon. Rice has had to deal with a sickness during the tournament, but on his day, he is still seen as one of the best midfielders in the world. Because of that, he gets the nod over Leandro Paredes, who was introduced into Argentinas starting lineup as the tournament unfolded. Verdict: Declan Rice Central Attacking Midfielder Jude Bellingham has been one of the players of the tournament, scoring six goals as a midfielder while providing ball-carrying ability, doing the dirty work in midfield and still having the capacity to make late runs into the box and score goals. He has been doing it all for England. And despite Rodrigo De Paul having a solid tournament and elevating the level we have seen from him at Inter Miami, Bellingham has the clear advantage in this one. Verdict: Jude Bellingham Right Forward This is one of the most lopsided conversations in this combined XI. Lionel Messi has eight goals through six games, and everything Argentina does going forward runs through him. He is widely recognized as the best to ever do it, and he continues to be the focal point of this Argentina side. Madueke, who is probably only playing for England because of Sakas fitness, has been pretty disappointing on multiple occasions this tournament, including being subbed off at halftime in the quarterfinal matchup against Norway. Messi has a clear and wide advantage over Madueke in this one. Verdict: Lionel Messi Left Forward Harry Kane has had a phenomenal tournament, scoring six goals at this World Cup and becoming Englands all-time leading World Cup scorer. He had a pivotal late brace against DR Congo that saved England and allowed them to still be here today. Kane and Jude Bellingham have done some unbelievable heavy lifting for this England squad. Julin lvarez had a quiet start to the tournament, but it was only a matter of time until his quality showed through. He produced a brilliant moment of magic against Switzerland late in extra time to put Argentina ahead 2-1 and win them a nail-biting quarterfinal. lvarez is a very good player, but Kane gets the advantage in this one. Verdict: Harry Kane Final Combined XI For Argentina And England GK: Emiliano MartnezRB: Reece JamesCB: Cristian RomeroCB: Marc GuhiLB: Nico OReillyCM: Enzo FernndezCM: Alexis Mac AllisterCM: Declan RiceCAM: Jude BellinghamRW: Lionel MessiST: Harry Kane0 Komentáře 0 Sdílení 116 Shlédnutí 0 Hodnocení -

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMMLB, MLBPA draw battle lines in latest remarks from commissioner Rob Manfred and union head Bruce MeyerPHILADELPHIA On Tuesday morning in a hotel ballroom, the two men primed to shape the future of baseball provided a valuable glimpse into the sports upcoming labor fight.MLB commissioner Rob Manfred and MLBPA interim executive director Bruce Meyer held separate question-and-answer sessions with assembled members of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Unsurprisingly, Manfred and Meyer offered diametrically opposed perspectives on the state of the sport. With the current collective bargaining agreement set to expire on Dec. 1, the entire industry is preparing for an extended work stoppage. A lockout feels like a foregone conclusion. Missing games in 2027 is a real possibility. That reality is, in large part, a product of the leagues insistence on implementing a salary-cap system, something the union has fundamentally opposed for its entire existence. The storm clouds are rumbling, the sky is getting darker. While no shocking revelations were made Tuesday, the dual media conferences functioned as a drawing of battle lines. How Manfred and Meyer spoke about the sport illustrated how the league and union plan to handle their messaging moving forward.Meyer, who assumed the unions top job in February following the scandalous resignation of former boss Tony Clark, led off the proceedings. He began by heralding the health of the sport. It was a theme he would return to multiple times."We have a great game. Our game is in a great place overall, he declared. We have record attendance, record ratings, worldwide interest, youth demographic coming back. We had a great season last year great playoffs, great World Series, great WBC.He then criticized the league for attempting to redirect that momentum into frustration. The league, these supposed stewards of the game, have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to convince those same fans that they don't have hope, or they shouldn't have hope, or that the product that they're paying to consume in record numbers is somehow broken.Thats a reasonable line of messaging for the players association to take, even if the staid, subdued Meyer is an odd fit as a spokesperson for that enthusiasm-forward approach. Effectively, the union is arguing that if things are good, the status quo is working well and baseball is in a strong place, why the need to fundamentally reshape things by adding a cap?The commissioner was then asked that exact question and offered a big-picture reply."Momentum in the game is a great thing, Manfred said. We got that momentum by listening to our fans and making changes that, you know, candidly, that the MLBPA was not interested in. Those changes have paid off in terms of creating that momentum, and the best way to lose momentum is to stay still.Over the course of his remarks, Manfred repeatedly employed some version of the phrase listening to the fans. Expect a whole lot more of that in the months to come. The league intends to position itself as an altruistic actor, one whose willingness to adopt rule changes has propelled the sport into this era of massive growth. The majority of fans, according to Manfred and the league, want a capped system. That desire, in Manfreds opinion, is driven by a yearning for more competitive balance.I think that we need a system where fans, particularly in smaller markets, can have some hope that the players that are signed and developed by the organizations can actually stay there through free agency, he said.Although he spoke before Manfred, Meyer offered a direct rebuke of that argument when asked about that dynamic in regard to Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes and the fan bases lack of optimism regarding a long-term extension.I hear that, and then I think, what about Bobby Witt? What about Julio Rodriguez? What about JJ Wetherholt, who just signed? Konnor Griffin, Kevin McGonigle, Samuel Basallo, Corbin Carroll. So you have this notion that they can't keep their players. It's just not true. It's not true. They are keeping their players, and they can."CBA negotiations and the prospect of a salary cap werent the only topics covered during the two sessions. Both were asked about baseballs role in the 2028 Olympics, as well as the ongoing eruption of gambling and prediction markets and their effect on the sport. Manfred was pressed on a wider scope of topics, including the potential involvement of President Donald Trump in a lockout and the decades-long decrease of Black big leaguers. That last question provided the days most bizarre moment, when Manfred stumbled through a tangent about the semantics of what exactly classifies a player as Black. The numbers from 40 years ago, there's a lot of debate about who was counting what there in terms of who was being counted as a Black athlete, as a Black player, so I think you gotta be a little careful with that comparison, he said before arguing that the league is making progress on that front with its efforts on the amateur side, pointing toward the recent MLB draft as an example.Side quests aside, the morning was understandably dominated by posturing for the upcoming labor battle, one that could lead to the longest MLB work stoppage since the disastrous 1994 strike. Neither Manfred nor Meyer gave an inch to the other side. Nothing about the proceedings seemed friendly. It was, unfortunately, a sobering reminder of just how far apart the two sides are at this moment in time. Thus far, there has been far more public postering and bickering between the league and union than in previous bargaining seasons. Tuesday gave that contentiousness a much more tangible feel. And things are going to get a whole lot uglier before they get rosier.0 Komentáře 0 Sdílení 159 Shlédnutí 0 Hodnocení
