Ravens Reacts Survey: which offseason change will help Baltimore most in 2026?
OWINGS MILLS, MARYLAND - JUNE 09: Vega Ioane #71 of the Baltimore Ravens looks on during Baltimore Ravens Mandatory Minicamp at Under Armour Performance Center on June 09, 2026 in Owings Mills, Maryland. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Ravens fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys. The Ravens embraced change this offseason. Since January, Baltimore has a new head coach, new play-callers on both sides of the ball, an entirely rebuilt interior offensive line, and a significantly improved defensive line. And in this weeks Ravens Reacts survey, we want to know which change will make the biggest impact this year! Heres an argument for each option in the survey:Jesse Minter: This one is pretty simple. The Chargers fielded a top-10 defense in both of Minters years as DC, and putting a top-10 defense opposite a Lamar Jackson-led offense will only lead to success. At a higher level, Minter is preaching accountability and standards as he installs a new culture in Baltimore that will hopefully reverse a trend of blown leads and disappointing playoff losses. This change at the top affects every single part of the team, and it will take a strong effort from Minter to bring the Ravens back to Super Bowl contention right away.Declan Doyle: On the other side of the ball, the Ravens new 29-year-old offensive coordinator will be looking to bring Jackson and Baltimores offense to new heights. The two-time MVP is working with a young, innovative offensive mind for the first time in his career, and the results could be explosive. If Doyle can quickly conjure the same success as his mentors Sean Payton and Ben Johnson, the Ravens offense should be among the best in the league and Jackson could take home his third MVP.Trey Hendrickson: The Ravens made an uncharacteristically aggressive pursuit of elite edge rushing talent this offseason. They nearly sent two first-round picks to the Raiders for Maxx Crosby before pivoting to a four-year, $112 million deal for Hendrickson. The former Bengal is coming off a down year due to injury, but he put up 17.5 sacks in both 2023 and 2024, more than any Raven has logged in a single season. Post-injury and crossing into his 30s, he may not return to those heights, but he could still be the teams most effective pass rusher in at least a decade. Vega Ioane: Poor guard play was largely the downfall of the Ravens offense in the last two years, and the team went right after that weakness this offseason. A reunion with veteran John Simpson will stabilize the left side, while Ioane, a first-round pick out of Penn State, is expected to turn right guard into a strength. The No. 14 selection looked the part at spring practices, and strong showings from he and Simpson will be crucial in mitigating a questionable center situation between them. Now, its your turn! What's Next For France Once Didier Deschamps Steps Down?
Spain advanced to the 2026 World Cup final after defeating France, 2-0, in the semifinals on Tuesday, ending the French bid for another title and setting up the final match of manager Didier Deschamps' tenure. Prior to the start of the World Cup, Deschamps announced his plans to step down as France's manager afterward. France will now move on to the third-place match on Saturday against either England or Argentina, which will serve as Deschamps' final match in charge of the French national team. Deschamps took over the French national team in 2012, leading the country through its most consistent era of modern success. Under his leadership, France won the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2021 UEFA Nations League, while also reaching the finals of Euro 2016 and the 2022 World Cup. Over Deschamps' career, he has 20 victories at the World Cup and 10 at the knockout stage, both the most of any manager in the history of the tournament. His departure after the upcoming third-place match will conclude a 14-year reign as head coach. According to ESPN, Zinedine Zidane will succeed Deschamps as the France national team head coach this summer. A verbal agreement has already been reached between the former Real Madrid manager and the French Football Federation (FFF). The final details of the contract are yet to be finalized. This succession follows comments from FFF president Philippe Diallo, who told French newspaper Le Figaro that he already knew who Deschamps' successor would be, though he declined to name Zidane publicly at the time. Zidane previously coached Real Madrid Castilla from 2014-2016 before coaching the first team from 2016-2018 and again from 2019-2021.

Falcons Recap: B/R identifies trade target, ESPN picks starting QB
The Atlanta Falcons have their work cut out for them as they attempt to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2017. The team has made some major changes, bringing in Matt Ryan to be the president of football and hiring head coach Kevin Stefanski.Training camp is just around the corner, but there's still time for the Falcons to make a move or two before players report to the team's training facility in Flowery Branch, Georgia. In today's Falcons Wire Recap, Bleacher Report identifies a potential trade target in the AFC, ESPN predicts the winner of two key position battles, and NFL.com roasts the NFC South. Broncos WR Marvin Mims Jr. named Falcons trade targetBleacher Report's Moe Moton suggested one trade for all 32 NFL teams ahead in 2026. For the Falcons, B/R listed Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. as an ideal trade target."Denver acquired Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins. Courtland Sutton and Troy Franklin have a strong rapport with quarterback Bo Nix," wrote Moton. "The coaching staff could look to further develop second-year wideout Pat Bryant. Mims knows this year could be his last in Denver. Atlanta can speed up the process and acquire him to address a glaring roster need."ESPN predicts Tua will start at QBAs we get closer to training camp, more and more national analysts are picking Tua Tagovailoa to win the Falcons' quarterback competition. For ESPN's Marc Raimondi, it simply comes down to the health factor. "Penix impressed a lot of people this spring by just how far along he was -- and how comfortable he looked on the field in individual drills and 7-on-7 sessions," wrote Raimondi. "He has done this twice before with the other knee, after all, so this is not a foreign process to him. But it's still impossible to know when he'll be fully cleared for everything, including 11-on-11 team sessions. And until that happens,Tua Tagovailoahas to be considered the starter."NFC South ranked worst division in NFLNFL.comranked all eight divisions ahead of the 2026 season, and I'll bet you guess where the NFC South landed. Considering the Carolina Panthers won the division with an 8-9 record, it should come as no surprise that the NFC South was ranked dead last."Kevin Stefanski moved from Cleveland to Atlanta, taking over a team in need of an offensive spark -- and a concrete answer at quarterback,"wrote Nick Shook. "Michael Penix Jr. is still returning from injury and isn't guaranteed to be ready for Week 1, leaving room for offseason addition Tua Tagovailoa to attempt his best Sam Darnold impression following an ugly exit from Miami. Stefanski will have to solve -- and most likely manage -- the quarterback situation before pushing the Falcons forward."ESPN predicts Falcons' starting linebackerQuarterback isn't the only position with question marks. There's still some uncertainty over who will start next to Divine Deablo at linebacker. According to ESPN's Marc Raimondi, veteran Christian Harris appears to be the early favorite."If practices during OTAs and minicamp are any indication, Christian Harris seems like the favorite at inside linebacker, alongside Divine Deablo," wrote Raimondi. "Harris was signed from the Houston Texans. He started 27 games in four seasons and was considered a prospect who didn't completely fulfill his potential because of calf and ankle injuries."This article originally appeared on Falcons Wire: Falcons Recap: B/R identifies trade target, ESPN picks starting QB

Thierry Henry, Zlatan Downplay Thomas Tuchel-Jude Bellingham Tension
Comments from England head coach Thomas Tuchel slightly overshadowed Jude Bellingham's two goals against Norway last week. Bellingham now has six goals at this World Cup and has had a remarkable tournament, coming up huge in the most crucial moments when England has needed him the most. With back-to-back two-goal games in the Round of 16 and quarterfinals, he has been one of the biggest reasons England is now in the semifinals. But after Englands quarterfinal win over Norway, Tuchel was critical of the performance from a quality and technical standpoint, saying England "made life very difficult for us in the way we played, how we played, sloppy, a lot of technical mistakes, not fast enough. We were lucky today." Tuchel added, "Its a pure mentality thing; there was no mentality problem. You could bottle it up and sell it," Tuchel said. "Its the quality of our games. Its nothing to do with mentality; its about quality. We need to play better." When Bellingham was asked about Tuchel's criticism, he said, "Maybe he doesnt know what its like to play in those conditions," before praising Norway as a difficult team to face and noting the heat in Miami. FOX Sports analyst Zlatan Ibrahimovi believes the full context of Tuchels comments may not have been presented to Bellingham by the reporter, which played a part in Bellinghams response. "I think its misinformation, because if Jude would have seen the interview with Tuchel, he would have answered differently 100%," Ibrahimovi said. Thierry Henry agreed with Zlatans sentiment, but also believed the back-and-forth was nothing major. Henry said there are no issues in the England camp and that the attention should be on the game itself, especially with the rivalry between England and Argentina ahead of their semifinal at Atlanta Stadium on Wednesday, July 15. "Nothing has changed for me," Henry said. "If you want to see what Ive said, watch it again. "We need to talk about the game. Thats the most important thing. What animosity? There is no animosity in there. There is nothing in there. And I agree with Zlatan. He didnt know how it was phrased to Tuchel. Thats about it. Ill leave it there." "Theyre playing well in the way that they want to play," Henry added. "Theyre fighting and coming back. Well think about the style later on." FOX Sports analyst Alexi Lalas had no issue with the back-and-forth between Bellingham and Tuchel. "I dont think its a problem. I actually love it," Lalas said. "I think its important for Tuchel to do something a little different in terms of the way that he reacted and make sure that the players know that they have plenty of work to do, and that they can and must get better if they ever hope to have it coming home. "And I love the fact that Jude stood up for himself and stood up for his teammates. So, I dont think the dynamic changes. I still think that they respect each other, even though they disagree with each other, maybe in this instance." England will take on Argentina on Wednesday, July 15, at Atlanta Stadium for a spot in the World Cup final on Sunday, July 19, at New York/New Jersey Stadium. Spain has already confirmed its spot in the final after beating France in the other semifinal in Dallas.

Justin Verlander's Hall Of Fame Legacy Honored At His Final All-Star Game
CITIZENS BANK BALLPARK (Philadelphia) There was no "aha" moment for Justin Verlander. In announcing his retirement from a spectacular baseball career, Verlander slowly came to the conclusion earlier this season that his physical health was preventing him from accomplishing everything he wanted from the game. Verlander, the oldest active player in MLB at age 43, is at peace with his decision to call it a career. "I feel good about it," he told me on Monday at Citizens Bank Park during All-Star Game festivities. "I'm in a good mental space. I do feel like it's the right time. And if I want to control my own destiny, which I do, I want to leave the game when I'm ready to go, and not have the game force me out." After this season, Verlander will retire as one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history. "It's tough. It's hard to see him go," Braves All-Star left-hander Chris Sale told me. "Since I've been in the big leagues, to be completely honest with you, I think pound for pound, if he's not the best pitcher in the league, he was damn close. "You're talking about a guy with three Cy Youngs, MVP. You look at what he's done in the regular season, look at what he's done during the postseason, look at his All-Star appearances. He's got about as impressive as a trophy case that you're going to see." Verlander is the last of an era that blended dominance, durability and championships. Hes the active leader in strikeouts (3,554), wins (266), games started (556), complete games (26), shutouts (nine), and innings (3571.1). Hes a three-time Cy Young award winner, a two-time ERA title winner, and the 2011 American League MVP. Hes a two-time champion and the 2006 AL Rookie of the Year award winner, plus a 10-time All-Star. As decorated as Verlanders career has been lets not forget that, in a handful of years, he will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer he still believes he fell short of a couple of milestones. "There's a couple things that I would love to have been able to check off my career," Verlander said on Monday at Citizens Bank Park. "And that would be 300 wins and 4000 strikeouts. But those are both a ways off. And everything would have to go absolutely perfect. One thing I think I've done really well in my career is to be objective of myself. "That's allowed me to adapt when I need to and be successful on the mound, and what I've been doing this year is trying to find that again. I know what I need to do mechanically to be healthy and compete at this level. And my body's not letting me do that. So the adjustments that I need to make to be the pitcher that I expect myself to be, some parts of my body cant quite keep up. So I feel good about the decision." Verlander has made just one start for the Detroit Tigers so far this season. He described dealing with his injuries this year, including hip pain and a hamstring strain, as "plugging holes in a leaky boat." He may not know that, throughout it all, his peers have admired his dogged determination to do whatever it takes to get back on the mound. Reigning National League Cy Young award winner Paul Skenes said he admires Verlanders consistency across a 24-year career. "He's a legend," Skenes told me. "I think he's been in the league as long as I've been alive. He's the greatest pitcher of his generation. I think he shaped the game in a lot of different ways. He's been really good for a really long time. It's an honor to share the field with him. It's an honor to meet him. "It's a heck of a career winding down. I don't want to see him retire. I don't want to see him not in this game anymore. But it's been special to watch as a fan for a really long time, and now as a player." Dodgers All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman joked that "a lot" of Verlanders 3,554 career strikeouts "were me." It may have felt that way to Freeman, facing Verlanders cutthroat dominance, but he has only struck out two times in nine career plate appearances against Verlander. "I've been facing him for a long time," Freeman told me. "We've had some great interactions. Just one of the best pitchers of all time. First-ballot Hall of Famer. To pitch for as long as he has, as good as he has, that's special. Those guys don't come around very often. Hopefully he can get back on the field one last time this year and be healthy. But what a tremendous career." Verlanders greatest legacy is being the ultimate workhorse of his generation. His massive career volume and incredible counting stats including 12 seasons with 200-plus innings pitched may never be surpassed by a modern starter. He learned to pitch deeper into games by watching older pitchers, in particular, refuse to leave the mound until they felt and knew they were exhausted. "Personally, I think you need veterans to fight for it, and show that it's OK to be out there and fight for that," Verlander said. "If you're at 95 pitches, and you're feeling good and fresh, your body is recovering, it's OK to fight for that next inning and throw 110 (pitches) if you want. I was raised, I got to see guys do that. "Luckily, I was pretty good right out the gate. I felt empowered by watching other people want the ball. All these guys point to their predecessors, and it's getting harder and harder in this game to fight for that. The analytics, they're monitoring everything." These days, there are pre-planned pitch limits for starters stemming from various data based on optimal recovery times. And the reason pitchers need more rest built into their seasons is the pressure to throw the ball harder. Shoving triple-digit heaters every five days requires extreme physical exertion, and it leads to greater wear and tear on the body, which can lead to injuries and surgeries. Verlander said his career would likely be different if at age 17 he went to Driveline Baseball, which is a data-driven training facility used by many active players to help increase pitch velocity, among other things. Verlander wasnt a hard thrower out of high school. His fastball topped out at 93 mph when he was a teenager. He said it wasn't until he went to college, started working out, and "things werent rushed" before he found his fastball. Suddenly, after his body matured, the ball started coming out of his hand at 98, 99, and 100 mph naturally. "In today's world, if I'm a parent that doesn't know anything about baseball, which my family did not, and you find out your son has a God-given talent, what do you do? Today, you go online, and you get help. We had to get help. "My dad bought a How to Pitch for Dummies book. I'm not joking. Literally, he's like, OK. Step one, you step back with your left foot. Step two, you turn this way. We were like, doing that in my front yard because he learned I could throw rock really far. Like, we should try this baseball thing. "So, I think as a parent now, the first thing you would do is probably say, I need to go to Driveline, or one of these velocity-building camps. And it's a trickle down from what you're expecting at this level." In the future, Verlander would like to be involved in the game in some way to try and encourage pitchers to get back to basics, prioritize personal and unique pitching mechanics, and maybe focus less on increased velocity as the only answer to being dominant in the major leagues. Verlander believes pitching mechanics are supposed to be "like the gait of a horse." All horses run differently, so just let the horse run. But, for now, Verlander is following the advice of the legends that came before him. "At the end of your career, I think, one of the things I've heard from people is sometimes you wish you were able to take things in a little bit more. It's such a blur while you're in it. And then you get towards the end, and it's like, man, I wish I had enjoyed X, Y, and Z a little bit more. "And so to have the opportunity to come back in this situation and really absorb it, and know it's your last time, it's a really special feeling."
