Hull KR inflict more derby misery on Hull FC
Joe Burgess' second-half try was his 14th of the season [Getty Images]Betfred Super LeagueHull FC (12) 20Tries: Batchelor, D Litten, Arthur Goals: Hardaker 4Hull KR (12) 28Tries: Amone, Mourgue, Broadbent, Burgess, Dezaria Goals: Mourgue 7Out-of-form Super League champions Hull KR put a stop to their losing run as they battled back to beat city rivals Hull FC in a feisty derby. The struggling home side, who have now won just one of their past 11 games, raced into a 12-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes thanks to tries from Joe Batchelor and Davy Litten, but scores from Tom Amone and Arthur Mourgue levelled the game at the break.Jack Broadbent's try put the Robins in front for the first time on the night and Joe Burgess raced in for a 95-metre intercept try to give the away side breathing room.Jake Arthur gave the hosts a glimmer of hope from Zak Hardaker's wonderful grubber kick, but Jordan Dezaria powered over to cap the win as the Robins moved back into the play-off positions in fifth. In what was Willie Peters' final derby game as KR coach, his side extended their winning run to nine in a row against their rivals.Despite the bright start, Thursday's result was a sixth straight loss for second-bottom Hull FC, whose miserable season continues.Robins' derby dominance goes onThis was the second derby between the sides this month after they met at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium three weeks ago in a Magic Weekend game in which the Robins had to dig deep to win 26-12.Off the back of defeats by Wakefield Trinity and Warrington Wolves since that success, the Robins got off to the worst possible start when they lost their captain's challenge inside 90 seconds and then fell two scores behind after Batchelor went in from Aidan Sezer's line-breaking run and Davy Litten did well to ground the ball under pressure. The visitors, who claimed the World Club Challenge against Brisbane Broncos in their last game at the MKM Stadium in February, could have gone under. However, they regained their composure and Amone barrelled over after good work from Jez Litten before Mourgue, in for the suspended Mikey Lewis, scored as the teams went in 12-12 at the break. After a Hardaker penalty put the home side back in the lead after a high tackle on Lennon Clark, Broadbent climbed highest to grab a Jez Litten kick and battled over to put Peters' men on top for the first time.Burgess, back in the 13 after being left out of the squad entirely last week, intercepted a Jake Arthur pass five metres from his own line and held off a tackle from Logan Moy to run in and put KR in charge.A helter-skelter passage of play ended with Hardaker showing brilliant football skills to tee up Arthur to reduce the arrears after a superb offload by Harvey Barron, but a comeback was not on the cards and Frenchman Dezaria powered over from close range for his first try for the Robins.Hull FC, whose owners put out a statement earlier in the week accepting responsibility for their wretched campaign, head to bottom club Huddersfield Giants next Thursday, while KR welcome Bradford Bulls next Friday.Peters proud of Hull KR 'fight' - reactionHull FC interim coach Andy Last told BBC Radio Humberside:"Really disappointed, it would have been great to get two points. Unbelievable crowd came in on the back of a season where we have really struggled. The loyalty of the supporters is second to none."We got off to a great start. We felt the start was important for us to get that engagement with the supporters and we thought Rovers were a bit fragile after their last two performances, so it couldn't have gone any better."The tries we conceded were real soft ones and that was down to fatigue."Second half, Rovers just did what they do which is suffocate you of field position. I ended up with a bit of a neck ache because I was looking to my left all the time. That pressure they put you under forced us into some uncharacteristic errors."Hull KR head coach Willie Peters told BBC Humberside:"I'm really proud. The first 10 minutes was a nervous start, 12 [points] down, it could have got ugly but we fought. "I thought Tom Amone and Kyle Lawton were outstanding. They made a big difference when they came on. I say it every week but what Dean Hadley brings to our team is incredible."[On Elliot Minchella and Jez Litten] "When times get a little bit tough you want your leaders to stand up and that is what I thought both of those guys did tonight and put in great performances."I said before the game that I thought this was the perfect game for us to show we've still got that fight. Being 12-0 down at your rivals to be able to kick on at the back end was what we needed." Hull FC: Moy; Barron, Hardaker, Litten, Briscoe; Arthur, Sezer; Salabio, Cust, Hill, Batchelor, O'Neill, Bell.Interchanges: Bourouh, Clark, Ese'ese, Wood.Hull KR: Broadbent; Davies, Hiku, Gildart, Burgess; Mourgue, May; Sue, Litten, Hadley, Whitbread, Batchelor, Minchella.Interchanges: Amone, Luckley, Lawton, Dezaria.Referee: Chris Kendall.

Dodgers present President Trump with World Series ring during return to White House
The Los Angeles Dodgers made a repeat visit to the White House on Thursday, with a gift in hand.Appearing alongside President Donald Trump to celebrate their 2025 World Series title, Dodgers owner Mark Walter presented Trump with a personalized championship ring, to go with the usual jersey given to presidents at such events. At the Dodgers ceremony Trump is given a ring: Its got your name on it pic.twitter.com/FPvqdHzJF8 Acyn (@Acyn) July 23, 2026Trump noted it was the Dodgers first time repeating as champions and indicated he would like to see them complete the three-peat:For the first time in the proud history of this famous franchise, you are repeat champions I didnt know that, thats the first time? great ownership, great management. Im thrilled to say welcome back to the White House and maybe Ill see you again next year, I hope. The strong majority of Dodgers players were at the event, including stars Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Max Muncy. There were also postseason heroes like Will Klein and Miguel Rojas, who both got specific call-outs from Trump. The most notable holdout was Mookie Betts, who declined to go but insisted it was out of a desire to spend time with his family rather than any political statement. Betts similar skipped a visit to Trumps White House with the 2018 Boston Red Sox, but made the trip for former president Joe Biden with the 2020 Dodgers and for Trump with the 2024 Dodgers.Other absences included Will Smith, Kik Hernndez, Tyler Glasnow, Blake Treinen and Blake Snell, all of whom are currently on the injured list. Hernndez was, however, asked last week if he would have gone if healthy and said probably not.Attendees of the ceremony from the White House side included cabinet members Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Markwayne Mullin and Brooke Rollins, all of whom were said by Trump to be Dodger fans. The majority of the ceremony consisted of Trump recapping the Dodgers run last year and praising the players involved, with some tangents. One example included an error-riddled recollection of the Babe Ruth trade while discussing Ohtanis two-way super-stardom:If you would have told me you could be the best pitcher and the best hitter at the same time you know, Babe Ruth was pretty close to that. They drafted Babe Ruth, he was 19 years old, I know something about baseball. Babe was 19 years old and considered the worst trade in the history of sports. I would say Babe will always take that. He was 19 and they got a 36-year-old third baseman and $100,000. I would rate that pretty bad. They drafted him as a pitcher, but he did something very unusual. He led the league in home runs as a pitcher. That one you [Ohtani] have to do, hes pretty close to doing it.For those keeping score at home, Ruth was not drafted (the MLB Draft was instituted in 1965, three decades after his final season), he was sold to the New York Yankees after his age-24 season (not when he was 19 years old), the Boston Red Sox got only cash for him (no third baseman was involved in the deal) and Ohtani has already led the league homers in a season he pitched (he had an AL-best 44 homers in 2023 during his time with the Los Angeles Angels). Before the ceremony, Trump had also praised Ohtani as just about the best fielder in the outfield in baseball. Ohtani has not started a game in the outfield since his career in Japan.

Bucs' Rueben Bain Jr. stays in the NFC South in 2026 NFL Draft redo
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have landed one of the biggest steals of the 2026 NFL Draft, but Sports Illustrated believes another NFC South team would have gladly ended Bain's draft-night slide. In his 2026 NFL Draft redo, Justin Melo projected the New Orleans Saints selecting Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. with the eighth overall pick instead of wide receiver Jordyn Tyson.Melo acknowledged why New Orleans originally targeted Tyson, noting the receiver could help support quarterback Tyler Shough's development. However, he viewed Bain as the better value, believing the Saints would have been wiser to strengthen their pass rush with one of the top defensive prospects in the class. The fit makes sense on paper. Although New Orleans brought back longtime defensive end Cameron Jordan, Bain could have stepped in as the franchise's long-term replacement while learning from one of the most accomplished pass rushers in team history. For Buccaneers fans, the projection is another reminder of how fortunate Tampa Bay was on draft night. Bain entered the pre-draft process as one of the top edge defenders in the class, but concerns over his arm length caused him to slip all the way to No. 15 overall. The Buccaneers didn't hesitate when he was still available.Since arriving in Tampa Bay, Bain has already earned rave reviews from head coach Todd Bowles, who has praised the rookie's football IQ and ability to process the game beyond what is typically expected from a first-year player. If Melo's redraft had become reality, the Buccaneers wouldn't just have missed out on Bain. They would have had to face him twice every season as a member of the Saints, making one of the draft's biggest steals an annual problem inside the NFC South. This article originally appeared on Bucs Wire: Bucs' Rueben Bain Jr. stays in the NFC South in 2026 NFL Draft redo

EXCLUSIVE | William Gallas on William Saliba’s World Cup: ‘He had a good performance but not the best’
EXCLUSIVE | William Gallas on William Salibas World Cup: He had a good performance but not the bestSpeaking exclusively toGet French Football News, former France, Arsenal and Chelsea defender William Gallas remains of the view that William Salibas performances for France are not at the same level as those for Arsenal.Last time we spoke you said that William Saliba hadnt yet shown his Arsenal form for France. Has the World Cup changed your view on that? And how do you think Arsenal will cope without him?His performance was not the same as he played for Arsenal. He had a good performance. But what Ive seen and I know exactly because I was in that situation if you remember during the World Cup, Saliba played on the left side. And normally with Arsenal, he plays on the right side. So when he plays with Arsenal, you can see he has that confidence, because he knows that position very well, you know, right-footed, the movement looks like its very simple and easy. When he plays on the left side, its different because he has to be more focused because when he receives the ball, normally the ball has to be on his left foot, but because hes on the right foot, he has to control the ball differently. So for me, as I said, because I played in that position in the 2006 World Cup, Im sure he was more focused on the World Cup, you know, so thats why he looked like he was a little bit uncomfortable.Maybe some people didnt see it. But I saw it. So thats why I said I would say he had a good performance, but not the best one as he had with Arsenal. Because the problem was, you know, he played with Dayot Upamecano, who played as well on the right side with Bayern Munich. So you had to choose between the two players who was going to play on the right side, and it was Upamecano. So yeah, Im sure Saliba can show more with his quality.Chelsea are spending big again. So you think the constant turnover is holding them back? Or could Alonso be the crucial appointment?I think Alonso can be very important for them because now, okay, youve got some good players, but it doesnt mean you will get the results straight away. You need to get that manager who can fix everything and give confidence to your players to play the best football and to be ready once the season starts. So now he has got the president to explain what he wants from his players. Dont forget, he will start the season with a disadvantage point because its a lot of new players, a new coach, a new system. So normally it will take time, you know, to see the best of Chelsea. I think Alonso is a very important person who can fix and make the team ready and to give Chelsea the opportunity to come back to the level we expect them to be.William Gallas was speaking exclusively to Get French Football News courtesy ofiPredictaGFFN | Jeremy Smith

Countdown to Kickoff: Is Jordan Rodgers wrong about Arch Manning?
We are just 44 days from Texas taking the field against Texas State and its SEC media days week! Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns will take centerstage in Tampa today, but Arch Manning is already a topic of discussion. Jordan Rodgers, former Vanderbilt QB and ESPN analyst, shared his thoughts about Manning heading into the season. While some have stamped Manning as a sure thing, Rodgers is not as convinced. Now, Rodgers full comments are much more nuanced than just doubting Arch Manning. He acknowledges Archs ability to improve and how he fully expects him to become a first round pick next spring. Regardless, many Longhorn fans took exception with the comments, calling it unfair. Once watching the full comments, Im not sure Rodgers is incorrect about Manning heading into the season."I don't think Arch has a generational arm, or generational athleticism." @JRodgers11 on what could hold Arch Manning back from being a top pick in the NFL draft pic.twitter.com/ZxWq1FUSTT Get Up (@GetUpESPN) July 22, 2026The one thing we have to clarify to start the conversation: the word generational is often overused in sports, especially college football. Cam Newton and Lamar Jackson are examples of generational athleticism. Arch Manning is not as athletic as those guys. Patrick Mahomes and Caleb Williams have generational arm talent. Arch Mannings doesnt match those guys. Thats not to say Manning doesnt have great athleticism and great arm talent, but its not generational.Rodgers biggest point for Manning was he needs to be more efficient if he wants to be a first-round pick in the NFL Draft. Im not sure I share that sentiment. However, that is based on what I believe Manning will be, not what he has been. Thats the difference Rodgers is seemingly trying to highlight. That being said, there is no argument against the idea that Manning has to be more efficient.Keep listening before you freak out and think Im Bashing Arch. Love Arch, but in the context of a #1 overall pick he doesnt have the cant miss generational physical tools. But he will play himself into a 1st Rd pick as his mechanics and footwork continue to improve like we saw https://t.co/fcatQGhsLx Jordan Rodgers (@JRodgers11) July 22, 2026Arch Manning finished the season on a tear. From the Mississippi State game forward, he totalled 19 TDs, 2 INTs and led Texas to a 5-1 record. However, during that time he also had just one game where he completed more than 63% of his passes. On the season, he completed just 61.4% of his passes, ranking 81st in the country. In the past three seasons, the national championship QB has finished in the top 10 in completion percentage in the country. Its not a requirement, but he has to get closer to 66% this season for the Texas offense to find their rhythm.Arch Manning is a very talented player. His ceiling as a QB is as high as any to come through Austin. However, he has areas of his game where hes an incomplete product. Last season, Manning was built up to be something he wasnt in the preseason. Im not sure its a bad thing for the national media(and Longhorns fans) to be acknowledging his shortcomings before the season. That way, he can be properly praised when he does improve in those areas. Arch Manning has the pocket navigation skills of a 10-year NFL veteran pic.twitter.com/oj4rKSYeiL NFL Draft Files (@NFL_DF) July 21, 2026Arch Manning has just about every tool needed to be an elite QB. He has elite size, a strong arm, great athleticism and, most importantly, hes a student of the game. I believe Ill be writing an article in November about Mannings steps forward, especially when it comes to mechanics and accuracy. However, Im not sure I share the sentiment that Rodgers is entirely wrong with his assessment.I fully believe Arch Manning is going to be a first-round pick. I believe he will develop massively this season, improve in many ways and become one of the best QBs in the country. That being said, Im not sure Rodgers is entirely out of bounds not viewing Manning as a first-round talent right now. I dont entirely agree with him, but I do understand where hes coming from. All that said, if this adds to the fuel to the fire for Manning and the Longhorns heading into this season, thats a positive. This article originally appeared on Longhorns Wire: Countdown to Kickoff: Is Jordan Rodgers wrong about Arch Manning?

Giants Receiver Malik Nabers Avoids PUP List To Begin Training Camp
Jaxson Dart will be able to throw to his No. 1 wide receiver when the New York Giants open training camp next week. Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers will not start training camp on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list as he continues his recovery from a knee injury. There's also a "realistic possibility" that Nabers will be able to play in the Giants' Week 1 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, ESPN reported Thursday. Avoiding the PUP list leaves open the possibility that Nabers could be active for the start of the regular season. If Nabers was on the PUP list through the end of training camp and the preseason, he would've been forced to miss New York's first four regular-season matchups. Nabers suffered a torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee during the Giants' Week 4 win over the Los Angeles Chargers last season. He underwent surgery in late October, followed by a secondary cleanup procedure in the spring. As Nabers rehabbed, the Giants made some moves to add to their wide receiver depth over the offseason. They reunited with Odell Beckham Jr. after signing veterans Darnell Mooney, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Calvin Austin and Braxton Berrios. New York also selected Notre Dame wide receiver Malachi Fields in the third round of April's draft, and signed former Baltimore Ravens standout tight end Isaiah Likely. Nabers, who the Giants took in the first round of the 2024 draft, hauled in 18 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns last season. He had 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie.
