Browns get positive injury update on featured offensive piece
The rookies and quarterbacks for the Cleveland Browns have reported to the team's facility in Berea for training camp, with the rest of the roster set to arrive next week as preparations for the 2026 season get underway. After being selected in the second round of last year's draft out of Ohio State, running back Quinshon Judkins was one of the few bright spots on the Browns' offense. Unfortunately, his season was ended early with a tibula/ankle injury that looked like it could've been much worse in the moment. But good news ahead of training camp as ESPN's Jeremy Fowler is reporting that Judkins will be a full go when the team opens training camp next week. With an improved offensive line and wide receiver group, if the quarterback play is even halfway decent at times, Judkins will have more opportunities to have a bigger season after the offensive line and passing attack were so bad he struggled to get much yardage before contact, leaving him to do all the heavy lifting. How LeBron James to 76ers shapes East's NBA power rankings, Pistons
LeBron James's shocking decision to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers may reshape the Eastern Conference even further. The Detroit Pistons were the No. 1 seed in the East in 2025-26, and though they made a bunch of trades this offseason, the Sixers are among several teams who have taken bigger swings and will threaten the Pistons' contending status. Here's a quick look at the loaded in East, one month into the offseason and three months before the NBA 2026-27 season.[ Trajan Langdon's underwhelming offseason with Pistons is big gamble for good reason ]NBA power rankings in Eastern Conference1. New York KnicksThe defending champions lost their top rim protector, Mitchell Robinson to the Boston Celtics and replaced him with former Pistons star Andre Drummond. Otherwise, their roster remains intact and theyre well-positioned for a second Finals run.2. Philadelphia 76ersJaylen Browns trade from Boston to Philadelphia propelled the Sixers to contending status. LeBron James surprising decision to sign a two-year deal with them secures their superteam status, with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecomb solidifying the most formidable starting lineup in the conference.3. Detroit PistonsIt has been a quieter offseason than some hoped for, but the Pistons made meaningful additions. Isaiah Joe, Taurean Prince and Gary Harris are good-to-elite shooters and upgrade the teams spacing, which too often was cramped last season. John Collins provides both outside shooting and above-the-rim finishing at the four. They will have to adjust to life without Tobias Harris and Isaiah Stewart, but continued growth from Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson and Jalen Duren (who remains in a contract standoff with the organization) will keep the Pistons among the top of the East.4. Cleveland CavaliersThe team that eliminated the Pistons from the playoffs lost its best Cunningham defender, Dean Wade, to the Sixers. Assuming James Harden re-signs, their fortunes will depend on if the aging star, who turns 37 in August, can stay healthy and continue performing at a high level.5. Boston CelticsIt remains to be seen how theyll look after trading Brown, but this is still a balanced team with a perennial MVP candidate in Jayson Tatum, who will be more than a year removed from an Achilles tear that caused him to miss 66 games last season.ANALYSIS: Pistons have something to prove in tougher East after summer of change6. Miami HeatGiannis Antetokounmpo is the latest late-career superstar to move to Miami in pursuit of a championship. They gutted their depth to acquire him, but the Heat consistently have found ways to build contending teams. Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo will make them formidable.7. Toronto RaptorsWhether or not the Kawhi Leonard trade is cleared by the NBA will dictate Torontos ranking. With Leonard, they have a greater chance at building on a 46-win season and surviving a brutal division featuring the Sixers, Celtics and Knicks.8. Atlanta HawksOther than Jalen Johnson, the Hawks lack starpower. But their depth can make up for it Dyson Daniels and newcomer Lu Dort give them two strong perimeter defenders, and lottery pick Kingston Flemings brings upside at point guard.9. Indiana PacersTyrese Haliburtons return from an Achilles tear will determine how good Indiana will be. If he picks up where he left off from an All-Star season, Haliburton, Pascal Siakam and Ivaca Zubac will make them a playoff contender.10. Orlando MagicNikola Vucevic has long been among the leagues best shooters at the five, and his arrival addressed one of Orlandos main weaknesses last season. As we saw in the first round, the Magic play like a contender when Franz Wagner is healthy. But if he has another injury-plagued season, Orlando will have a tough time competing.11. Washington WizardsOn paper, the Wizards are as exciting as theyve ever been. First-overall pick AJ Dybantsa joins a roster featuring two stars in Anthony Davis and Trae Young. But they have unproven depth, and their prospects depend on Davis ability to stay healthy and how quickly Dybantsa acclimates to the NBA.12. Charlotte HornetsHad their best season in years as one of the league's best teams after the season's first quarter, but dealt their top offensive player in LaMelo Ball, and a second starters in Miles Bridges. There's a steep drop-off after the top-12 teams. Those final three teams round out my power ranks:13. Chicago Bulls14. Milwaukee Bucks15. NFL writer makes a bold claim about the future for the 49ers at quarterback
SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA - MAY 28: Brock Purdy #13 of the San Francisco 49ers works out during a team OTA practice at SAP Performance Facility on May 28, 2026 in Santa Clara, California. (Photo by Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesThe San Francisco 49ers just signed Brock Purdy to a five-year, $265 million contract in the spring of 2025. So theres no way theyd part ways with him just two years after giving him over $177 million in guaranteed money, right?Purdy is 26 with plenty of valuable traits that make him a franchise quarterback. Hes aggressive, a playmaker, stays out of negative plays by avoiding sacks, and is accurate. While hes undersized at 61, Purdy isnt small. Hes about 220 pounds. The 49ers were on the doorstep of a Super Bowl during Purdys first season as a starter. They had a halftime lead in the Super Bowl during his first full season as a starter. The team suffered injuries to seemingly every important piece around Purdy during the previous two seasons. Is it fair to say this is somewhat of a prove-it year for Purdy?According to NFL writer Vincent Bonsignore, it is. He believes the 49ers are a team to watch for the potential Joe Burrow sweepstakes next offseason:Multiple league sources have indicated that San Francisco is a team to watch if Burrow serves the Bengals with divorce papers. For the same reasons (49ers head coach) Kyle Shanahan and (general manager) John Lynch made an earnest run atLionsquarterback Matthew Stafford in 2021, some believe they would not hesitate to do the same if Burrow is available. The NFL cannot quit Burrow. In ESPNs annual rankings, Burrow was listed at No. 4 for quarterbacks, even earning a No. 1 ranking.Purdy was banged up last season. He had a catastrophic injury as a rookie that, to me, prevented the Niners from winning a Super Bowl. But Burrow is no stranger to injuries, either. He missed half the season last year and seven games in 2023. Back in 2020, Burrow had a season-ending left knee injury.Bonsignore compared Matthew Staffords tenure with the Lions to Burrow, and thats why he would eventually ask for a trade:Much like Staffords patience with the Lions eventually ran out and ultimately led him to ask for a trade, Burrow could reach his boiling point with the Bengals. And there has been just enough ice cracking in Cincinnati to suggest another lost season could lead Burrow to take a page out of Staffords playbook. If that happens, and if Purdy and the 49ers dont close the deal this season, the 49ers are a logical trade partner. In fact, Purdy could be the focal point of a hypothetical trade with the Bengals, along with a bunch of draft assets. The 49ers made a run at Stafford in 2021 before they had a franchise quarterback. So its not an apples-to-apples comparison. I dont think anybody would argue that Burrows talent supersedes Purdys. However, Burrows injury history is real. You cant avoid that.I think this season the discussion around Purdy will be much different now that he has a WR1 to throw to. When he did in 2023, he finished fourth in the MVP voting and seventh in the Offensive Player of the Year voting.Id also argue that this season will be the best supporting cast Purdys had in his career with the obvious health asterisk. If Evans>Brandon Aiyuk, and from purely a route-running perspective Ricky Pearsall>Deebo Samuel, Purdy gets an upgrade on the perimeter, and gets a big-bodied speedster over the middle in DeZhaun Stribling, not to mention vertical threats in Christian Kirk, Jacob Cowing, and Jordan Watkins. If Purdy is the quarterback the 49ers believed him to be when they gave him a massive deal a little more than a year ago, theyll give him more than two seasons to prove himself especially after an injury-riddled 2025.

Mike Vrabel: DeAndre Hopkins Considering Joining Patriots' Coaching Staff
Could one of the best wide receivers of his generation be hanging up his cleats and making a career change? Wide receiver and three-time All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins was present at New England Patriots' training camp on Friday morning, with head coach Mike Vrabel revealing that Hopkins is considering becoming a coach or taking on a role in player personnel, according to the team's website. Vrabel's connection to the 34-year-old Hopkins comes from the one year the receiver played for the head coach on the Tennessee Titans in 2023; Vrabel was fired after said season. Hopkins, a five-time Pro Bowler, spent the first seven seasons of his NFL career with the Houston Texans (2013-19) before being traded to the Arizona Cardinals, with whom he played three seasons (2020-22). Arizona released Hopkins after the 2022 season, with him later signing with the Titans, who then traded the veteran receiver to the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2024 season. Hopkins spent the 2025 season with the Baltimore Ravens, totaling 22 receptions for 330 yards and two touchdowns. In all, Hopkins is 18th in NFL history with 13,295 regular-season receiving yards and tied for 19th with 85 regular-season receiving touchdowns. All that said, if Hopkins ultimately joined the Patriots' roster, he'd be part of a wide receiver room that includes offseason pickups A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs, as well as Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins and DeMario Douglas, among others. The Patriots are entering their second season with Vrabel who won three Super Bowls with the franchise as a linebacker (2001, 2003 and 2004 seasons) as head coach, with the team coming off a 14-3 season that saw it reach Super Bowl LX. Second-year quarterback Drake Maye, who led the league with a 113.5 passer rating and a 72.0% completion percentage, was the runner-up for the 2025 NFL MVP Award.

Texans two coordinators named to breakout coaching candidates for 2026 season
Everyone knows about the dominance of Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans since entering the league as a coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers back in 2021.Since then, the Texans' coaching staff has seen plenty of rising names, but there have been some questions at the coordinator positions. Matt Burke didn't call plays on defense until last season and first-year offensive coordinator Nick Caley wasn't in charge of C.J. Stroud since Bobby Slowik took over as the offensive coordinator in 2023. But is there a high chance this fall that both coordinators will be named head coaches in waiting? The Athletic's Jourdan Rodrigue seems to believe in the notion, as both Texans' play-callers were a part of the list sheput together featuring current NFL assistant coaches who could break out in 2026."The two coordinators will be very interesting to study in a season of lofty expectations in Houston," Rodrigue wrote. "Caleys offense is expected to take another step forward (aided by a retooled run game and the addition of running back David Montgomery) while Burke took over defensive play calling from head coach DeMeco Ryans last season and excelled in the role."Burke should come as no surprise, since the Texans were top-five in every defensive category last season en route to a 12-win campaign. Nine starters return from that defense, including four Pro Bowlers and two first-team All-Pros at defensive end and cornerback. The Texans also added Eagles safety Reed Blankenship and drafted Ohio State All-American defensive tackle Kayden McDonald. Rodrigue also named defensive backs coach Dino Vasso as a name to watch for in the offseason to receive a promotion to defensive coordinator somewhere around the league. "Defensive backs coach Dino Vasso deserves a significant mention here, too the Texans have become a talent factory at every position in their secondary under Vasso, who could get even more coordinator interest this spring." Offensively, what changes do we see with the Texans in Year 2 of Caley? The wide receiver room will be more veteran with the maturity of Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins. The run game should also improve with the arrival of former Detroit Lions star David Montgomery. To read the full list, click here. The Texans return for the start of full training camp on July 28.
