Kyle Larson agrees with Scott Dixon, says NASCAR 'Cup races are too long'
INDIANAPOLIS One weekend before NASCAR returned to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Brickyard 400, IndyCar legend Scott Dixon criticized the length of NASCAR Cup Series races. The six-time IndyCar champion was asked about the original distance of IndyCars Music City Grand Prix, which was set to be 300 laps and nearly 400 miles before it was postponed and shortened. Dixon said he didnt know if hed like more IndyCar races of a similar distance, citing his problem with the length of Cup races.I don't know, Dixon said inan interview withFrontstretch.com. I find it really hard to watch Cup races. It allows for a nap. Maybe that's good. I don't know. The comments drew the ire of many NASCAR fans and commentators, who disagreed with Dixons assessment. This year, the shortest Cup race on an oval is 267 miles and the longest is 600. The shortest oval races typically take around three hours while longer races can exceed four hours. Last years Brickyard 400 took three hours and 22 minutes. While many felt Dixons comments were out of line, 2024 Brickyard 400 winner Kyle Larson understood Dixons point.Yes, I agree that a lot of our Cup races are too long, said Larson, who raced in the 2024 and 2025 Indy 500s at IMS. I just think the way that the world has kind of gone, how people consume sports, I definitely think our races are too long. I think three hours is too long. As far as a nap, I dont know. So it doesn't really bother me, but I agree with what he was saying.Besides the race distance, stages in NASCAR races can extend how long they take. NASCAR races are divided into three stages (the Coca-Cola 600 has four), with each stage being a different lap count depending on the track and race distance. At the end of the first two stages, races have stage cautions to award points based on where cars finish after each stage and provide a window for NASCARs television partners to cut to a set commercial break. The stage breaks, along with overtime in races to not end on a caution, lead to races being extended in real time to an extent that feels unnatural to observers like Dixon, who recently stated he wants to drive in the Daytona 500 before he retires. While all fans and drivers may not agree with him, Dixon has one supporter in Larson, who's a two-time Cup Series champion.Zion Brownis IndyStar's motorsports reporter. Follow him at@z10nbr0wn. Dodgers vs. Mets Lineup: Tommy Edman Bumped Up, Teoscar Moves Down
The Los Angeles Dodgers are starting their series against the New York Mets, hoping to end their big East Coast road trip on a high note. The Dodgers beat the Phillies two out of three times, same with the Yankees, despite not playing their best baseball. Shohei Ohtani has not gotten going at the plate since the All-Star break, while Teoscar Hernandez is slumping and Andy Pages has been trending down. Still, the Dodgers hold an 11-game lead in the National League West and have multiple injured players returning. Tommy Edman, a strong hitter against lefties, is moved up to the No. 3 hole. At second base, Miguel Rojas gets a rare start in the order, hitting all the way up to sixth, one of the higher placements. Still, all eyes will be on Shohei Ohtani, who is looking to get his swing going again. He has been quite focused on his knee and pitching, but his bat is ever important. Who is pitching for the Dodgers?Roki Sasaki takes the mound after two straight promising starts. He pitched a gem at Yankee Stadium and closed out the first half with a strong outing against the Colorado Rockies. If he adds a third straight impressive outing, Sasakis rise will be hard to ignore and should make fans of his excited.

Please check BCB social media for the Pirates lineup.Matthew Boyd, LHP vs. Jared Jones, RHPMatthew Boyd since returning from his knee injury: five starts, 2.57 ERA, 1.143 WHIP. Hes been really good and has thrown 90+ pitches in each of his last three starts, so shouldnt be pitch limited tonight. He has not faced the Pirates this year. Last year he had a 4.50 ERA in three starts covering 14 innings, which was two good outings and one pretty bad one. The bad one was in September when he was running out of gas. He should be better tonight.Jared Jones was being talked about as a 1-2 along with Paul Skenes in the Pirates rotation two years ago, then he missed part of 2024 and all of 2025 with internal brace surgery, something different from Tommy John surgery. Hes made nine starts this year and started off kind of shaky, but over the last three: 1.20 ERA, 0.533 WHIP, 23 strikeouts and only three walks in 15 innings. He appears to be a bit pitch-limited as he has maxed out at 81 this year and 75 over those last three starts. So, get to him early, if possible. Here is the weather forecast for the area around PNC Park.Todays game is on Marquee Sports Network. Here is the complete MLB.com live streaming page for today.MLB.com GamedayBaseball-reference.com game previewPlease visit our SB Nation Pirates siteBucs Dugout. Chiefs Star QB Patrick Mahomes Cleared For Practice Ahead Of Training Camp
The Kansas City Chiefs will have their star quarterback ready to go when they open up training camp practices next week. Mahomes has been cleared to participate in practice as he continues his recovery from the torn ACL and LCL he suffered against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15 last season, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters on Friday. Mahomes suffered the injury on Dec. 14 and underwent surgery the next day, immediately beginning what has turned into an aggressive recovery process. Now, just over seven months later, the Chiefs quarterback appears to be on track to take part in training camp. It has been an aggressive recovery for Mahomes. The star quarterback opted to have surgery immediately after suffering the injury, helping speed up his timetable to where he is today. The 2025 season was a difficult campaign for Kansas City. The Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014 after being eliminated with that Week 15 loss to the Chargers. At the time, Mahomes chances of being available for Week 1 against the Denver Broncos looked bleak. But with this expedited recovery, it is now looking like Mahomes could be a full participant early in training camp, let alone available for the Chiefs season opener. Kansas City is now looking to rebuild around Mahomes, who signed a new extension a little more than a month ago that keeps him under contract through 2033. Tight end Travis Kelce is still around, bringing veteran leadership and remaining Mahomes security blanket. The Chiefs also added Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III, who can help balance the offensive load as Kansas City looks to ease Mahomes back into the NFL season. Mahomes threw for 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 14 games before suffering the season-ending injury last season.

Oregon QB Dante Moore to make more money than LeBron James in 2026
Every summer, there are a handful of storylines in the NBA that span outside of the sports fanbase and become worldwide stories. On Friday, that story hit the news wires, with NBA superstar LeBron James announcing that he would sign with the Philadelphia 76ers, likely to end his career. One of the most interesting revelations in the whole ordeal was that James would be signing the veteran's minimum, taking a pay cut with the Sixers in order to help aid their roster construction. This means he will make only $4 million in 2026. In other words, this means that James, one of the greatest basketball players in the history of the game, will make less money in 2026 than Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore. After turning down a spot in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Moore chose to come back to Eugene for one more year. Of course, there was likely a hefty NIL deal in it for him as well, with On3 estimating that he will make $5 million this year with the Ducks. That amount is an estimate, though, and there's a good chance Moore is earning more than that through all of his various NIL deals. College Football players with higher 2026-27 contract earnings than LeBron Jameshttps://t.co/lKh1hwwTVWhttps://t.co/AlhVVhcK2Zpic.twitter.com/u0ybpGpBX9 On3 NIL (@On3NIL) July 24, 2026Of course, it's also no secret that LeBron is making far more than his $4 million from the Sixers this season. As one of the highest-paid and most marketed athletes in the world, James will rake in hundreds of millions of dollars in various other avenues this year, which makes it understandable that he would be willing to take a pay cut in order to help his team in Philadelphia. As for the Ducks, Moore isn't the only athlete on the roster making big bucks, either. While the numbers aren't public record, you can assume that players like Evan Stewart, Dakorien Moore, A'Mauri Washington, Koi Perich, and Matayo Uiagalelei, among others, are all costing a pretty penny for Oregon this year, all in the pursuit of a national championship.
