Dovbyk nears exit, Roma put pressure on Brugge for Tresoldi
Dovbyk nears exit, Roma put pressure on Brugge for TresoldiWhile awaiting substantial news for the two left-backs, both in attack and midfield, Roma have begun a frenzy not over, but over, the forwards. The transfer market is all about priorities, of course, with Gasperinis request for the aforementioned two full-backs filling currently unfilled positions. But its also about timing, and at Trigoria theyve realized its time to push for one of their summer targets: Nicol Tresoldi. The forwards agent and father have increased their pressure on Club Brugge to lower their demands. Then, in the last few hours, with Summerville now over, Roma officialswrites Simone Valdarchi in Corriere della Serahave begun direct talks with the Belgian club. Meanwhile, keeping Malen company up front is Dovbyk, another player who isnt part of the clubs plans. The Ukrainian is being followed by Villarreal in Spain, but Fiorentina has also turned its attention to the former Girona player. In Florence, they are negotiating the transfer of Kean to Como and Dovbyk is among the profiles identified (along with Pellegrino and Pinamonti) to replace him.

Stephen Fulton overweight, Spence vs Tszyu loses another undercard bout
Stephen Fulton failed to make weight for his planned fight with Liam Wilson on the Spence vs Tszyu show, so now that show has lost a second featured undercard bout.Fulton (23-2, 8 KO) was contracted to fight Wilson with a 133 lb limit, north of super featherweight but south of lightweight. But it could have been lightweight and he would have failed badly, as he weighed in at 139.If youre looking to avoid quick math, thats 6 lbs overweight. Its missing weight by a tremendous amount. At no point in the last 72 hours could Fulton really have believed he was going to make weight. Its the second straight fight where Fulton has missed weight, in fact. Last time, PBC and the WBC worked it so that Fulton and OShaquie Foster would fight for an interim lightweight title, with Foster having been scheduled to face Foster for his WBC super featherweight belt.Fulton came in 2 lbs over the limit for that one, and this is obviously much worse. He was routed by Foster, and this time he wont even go to the ring.Feel bad for Wilson (18-3, 10 KO), who has wasted his time and loses an opportunity for a good win on a big show. As for Foster, everyone should reconsider the idea of booking him to fight at this point. People come back from worse offenses in boxing all the time, absolutely, but if a guy consistently misses weight, youre taking a gamble on your show every time you schedule him.The PPV had already lost Jermall Charlo, who was set to face Koen Mazoudier, and now has lost this fight, leaving the cupboard pretty bare this evening under the main event. But well be here all the same starting from 9 pm ET, so join us all the same!As for the main event, Spence and Tszyu both weighed in at 159 lbs, under the newly-agreed 160 lb limit. It was originally contracted for 158, but Spence asked to have the limit raised some days ago.

US President Donald Trump drops insane reason why he likes Michael Jordan over LeBron James
Photo credit should read MANDEL NGAN/AFP via Getty ImagesDonald Trump used an odd reason to settle the GOAT debate between Michael Jordan and LeBron James.LeBron James free agency saga has come to an end with the 41-year-old superstar deciding to join the Philadelphia 76ers.James will join the 76ers on a two-year, $8 million deal with a player option in his second year as he hopes to win the fifth NBA Championship of his career. After all, itll get him one step closer to surpassing Michael Jordan as the GOAT of basketball. However, if theres one person wholl always consider MJ the GOAT is US President Donald Trump.Photo by Jason Miller/Getty ImagesDonald Trump suspects LeBron James is a racistAfter James decision to sign with Philly went viral, a reporter asked Trump about his thoughts on the move. Well, Trump immediately brought Jordan into the conversation.Michael Jordan is a guy thats a friend of mine. I play golf with him. Hes a really good guy. I think LeBron is maybe hes a racist, but maybe he doesnt like Trump, the US President said.He added, I dont know. I only like people that like me, so I would say Michael Jordan all the way.Trump is known for his wild takes on, at this point, everything, but no one expected the US President to call the face of the NBA racist because he may not like him. This is an insane thing to say, especially for a president of the country. But knowing Trump, he wont apologize for his comments and will find another way to poke James.Read more:Jaylen Browns diss towards Bronny resurfaces after LeBron James signs for 76ersLeBron James explains exactly why he chose 76ers over Cavs and HeatCaitlin Clark reacts in real-time after being informed of LeBron James decision to join the 76ers

Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese or Aja Wilson: Why Face of the WNBA debate has gotten out of control
Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese or Aja Wilson: Why Face of the WNBA debate has gotten out of control originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The stars continue to light up the WNBA landscape in 2026. Olivia Miles has put forth one of the greatest-ever rookie campaigns in league history, while Paige Bueckers has the Wings in striking distance of the Western Conference's No. 1 seed months after landing the No. 1 pick. There are other standouts scattered across the map, from Sonia Citron to Dom Malonga. None can compare to the league's three highest-profile talents, however: Fever guard Caitlin Clark, Dream forward Angel Reese and Aces center A'ja Wilson.Clark, Reese and Wilson have been the subject of plenty of conversation, with many feeling compelled to pit one against another to determine who is the "face" of women's basketball.A wise man once said comparison is "the thief of joy." That hasn't stopped masses of WNBA enthusiasts from trying to sequence the All-W-caliber players based on their purported stature. So, who is the real "face" of the WNBA? Here's what you need to know.MORE:Why Caitlin Clark was chosen as NBA 2K27 cover starWho is the Face of the WNBA? Grace Smith/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Caitlin ClarkClark is arguably the WNBA's biggest draw. Her on-court exploits are well-known at this point. She was college basketball's greatest-ever folk star at Iowa, producing score lines that would look out of place in a video game. Her penchant for three-point shooting, no-look dimes and swaggering bravado made her a favorite not only for fans, but for media corporations desperate to anoint a supernova who lay in wait.Caitlin Clark is the face of the WNBA.She just had a 45 POINT 10 ASSISTS DOUBLE DOUBLE with 4 steals, 2 blocks and 2 rebounds.Shot 11/18 from the field and 6/10 from 3 point range in 29 minutes with a +16 +/-.Other players have scored more points this year and in years Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) July 18, 2026In many ways, Clark has lived up to those claims. She's a three-time All-Star who shattered league records in her maiden year in the league. Her gifts as a playmaker rival the sport's greatest-ever passers. And although her shot selection hasn't been quite as steady as one might hope, Clark remains one of the sport's most dazzling talents at her position.Clark figures to be a perennial MVP candidate for the next decade. Supporters of the belief that Clark is the WNBA's finest talent point to burgeoning revenues, increased media play and sold-out stadiums. Some have even suggested that Clark should be credited with bringing about surges in player salary. That's a fanciful suggestion that renders the role the player's union played in forcing the league to the negotiating table invisible. Then again, that falls right in line with the way some of the loudest"proponents"of Clark engage with the topic of labor organizing. There's a lot to like about Clark's game. She produces highlights in bunches, recently exploding for 45 points and 10 assists in a win over the Storm, becoming the first player in WNBA history to ever put up that stat line. She is more than capable of anchoring a side to championship glory especially when that side features other glittering talents like Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston.MORE:Why Caitlin Clark declined invitation to participate in WNBA 3-point contestShe has also proved a darling among corporations. All 44 of Indiana's games feature on national television. Stephanie White's side is the first and only team in league history to receive such treatment, another apparent notch in Clark's belt.Therein lies the problem with declaring Clark the biggest star in the league, however. That designation ignores the factors that shape her stature at least in the eyes of some of her most prominent "admirers."Clark is white, cisgender and heterosexual. Many of her peers are not the league's workforce is primarily Black, while Willis et al coded 63 players as lesbian (not straight) during the 2019 WNBA regular season, nearly 40 percent of the league's player population. As The Ringer's Seerat Sohi notes, the clash between those dueling identities has created a platform for the much-maligned "culture war" to take shape.Kareem Abdul-Jabbar pushed back on the suggestion that Clark was the league's biggest draw while lamenting a letter several GOP lawmakers penned calling for the league to take accountability for recent "attacks" on Clark.MORE:Stephanie White calls out officiating after Caitlin Clark injury"My first reaction to this letter was to check the calendar and make sure it wasnt April Fools Day. Eleven members of Congress wrote a letter calling Caitlin Clark 'the face of your league.' At least they got the marketing departments talking point right," Abdul-Jabbar wrote on hisSubstack."Dont get me wrong: Clark is a very good, possibly even a great, player. But calling any one player the face of the league, absent the sort of on-court and cross-platform dominance of a Michael Jordan or a LeBron James, is an insult to an awful lot of great players, starting with Aja Wilson, who has won three titles and four MVP awards in her first seven years in the WNBA."Clark's popularity is informed by a confluence of factors, some of which she can control, others that she cannot. She is one of the sport's grandest talents on merit. But her position as women's basketball "face" relies upon the assumption that corporations and the market push the needle.MORE:Caitlin Clark's complete injury timeline from NCAA to WNBA Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images Angel ReeseReese's case for the title of WNBA's most prominent star is a bit hazier. She is a superstar in her role, already establishing herself as one of the greatest rebounders in basketball history (men and women) across her three-year career. And yet, her on-court value lags behind the likes of Clark, Paige Bueckers and Olivia Miles, all of whom have emerged as All-WNBA-caliber talents in their nascent careers. That's not particularly surprising. Reese is at her best in a secondary or tertiary role, with her star attributes rebounding, defending and play-making shining when she's off-ball. When Reese was the No. 1 scoring option on the Sky, they were one of the league's worst teams. The Dream lessened her usage upon her arrival via trade and surrounded her with top-tier talent. They've become title contenders as a result.Perhaps that's an indicator that Reese is not the face of the WNBA. Typically, those who are given that title are the centerpieces of their roster. Think Lionel Messi with Argentina and Barcelona, or LeBron James with any variety of the sides he played for. For all her plaudits, Reese does not carry that same weight. She doesn't have to, either. Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray have long served as Atlanta's standard-bearers, after all.Reese is not the "face" of the league. But she lies somewhere near the surface, taking hold of the spotlight on- and off-the-court in a manner similar to that of Clark, albeit in different ways. She's arguably more social media savvy than her longtime rival, using her platform to create a podcast and land endorsement deals that align with her style and worldview. That has made her eminently popular, especially among Black women, the demographic most represented in the WNBA's population.ANGEL REESE & THE TREND WITH BLACK WOMEN IN THE MEDIA pic.twitter.com/k5hKoBEwae Katherine Harris (@IamKatHarris) November 7, 2023Reese has proven one of the WNBAs most marketable athletes in recent years. Her endorsement portfolio is adorned with fashion houses, with Reese landing deals with Reebok and Victorias Secret. Her contract with the latter proved especially noteworthy; Reese became the first WNBA player to appear on the Victorias Secret runway. She also featured on Sports Illustrateds Swimsuit edition, another indication of her burgeoning might in the world of fashion.Reese's style of play might not lend itself to being the WNBA's most marketable player. Her personality does, though. Shes an avid fashion enthusiast who has been outspoken about her interests on- and off-the-floor. Shes not quite the best player in the league. But she certainly has a case for the WNBAs most savvy off-court figure. That might help explain why she has earned consideration for the title of face of the WNBA. Joe Camporeale-Imagn Images A'ja WilsonIt's not too soon to say A'ja Wilson is the greatest player in WNBA history. The Aces star's accolades would suggest that even that designation might be too dismissive of her greatness. At 29 years old, Wilson has already staked her claim as one of the greatest players to ever step on hardwood regardless of gender. Her trophy cabinet bears scars of her on-floor dominance. She has four MVPs, three WNBA titles, three Defensive Player of the Year awards and two scoring titles.I appreciate the nuance in your opinion, but there is a difference between popularity, appeal and being the face of the league.Caitlin Clark is the most popular player in the WNBA, and the biggest draw. Shes not the face because shes not creating a new standard for winning https://t.co/FvzAhpuHWI Jemele Hill (@jemelehill) July 18, 2026Wilson has the highest-scoring season in WNBA history, averaging a whopping 26.87 points per game in 2024. She's on pace to post the second-highest-scoring campaign in league history in 2026.A two-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time World Cup champion who claimed MVP honors in each competition, Wilson isn't just great. She's eternal, both a whisper and a memory. She is surrounded by era-defining talents. And yet, she surpasses them in every way, adding new wrinkles to her game even as Las Vegas' roster waxes and wanes.On-court dominance does not guarantee off-court fame. More often than not, though, it provides a window into what prominence could look like. The most popular athletes tend to be the most successful. No women's basketball player is as successful as Wilson, who boasts a social media following of about 1.75 million on Instagram and Twitter.Clark's acolytes, meanwhile, sit at nearly double that of Wilson's.What is to explain that discrepancy? Wilson is one of the league's most charismatic operators, often capping off interviews and media appearances with beaming smiles and booming laughter. She's a little older than Clark. But age failed to prove an impediment for the likes of Messi, James and Tom Brady, all of whom came to define their sport at a certain point in their gleaming careers. Is Wilson the most popular player in the WNBA? Social media followings an admittedly flawed metric would suggest no. Using viewership numbers and commercial revenue to indicate "popularity" or "status" seems flimsy when multi-billion-dollar corporations have already made their decision on who to back. So, is Wilson the "face" of the WNBA? Maybe not. But when the tome of women's basketball is penned and historians flip to the 2010s and 2020s, one player's name will feature more prominently than her peers: Wilson. If that doesn't make you the face of a sport, it's hard to know what does.
