From early setbacks to Champions League goals
Kasper Hogh scored for Denmark in their World Cup play-off against the Czech Republic [Getty Images]Kasper Hogh's career has been a slow burner since he came through the youth ranks with local club Randers but was sold to second-tier Hobro after an injury hit spell, including a loan to Valur in Iceland. Now the 25-year-old Denmark striker is poised for a medical pending a big-money transfer from Bodo/Glimt to Celtic.A move to Danish Superliga club AaB had followed in January 2022, but he was on the move again a year later, this time to Stabaek, who had just been promoted to the Norwegian Eliteserien. It was there that Hogh's career took off as they exercised their purchase option only six months into his year-long loan after he scored eight goals in 14 games.Within another three months, he signed a pre-contract agreement with Bod/Glimt to join their top-flight rivals in January 2024.Hogh would finish the season as his new club's top scorer with 12 goals as they retained the Norwegian title - and his seven goals in the Europa League made him the competition's joint top marksman as they reached the semi-finals.He was also the club's top scorer for 2025 with 17 goals, albeit Bodo/Glimt finished second, one point behind Viking. In January, he grabbed a double in a 3-1 Champions League win over Manchester City and the following week netted again in a 2-1 win away to Atletico Madrid.Hogh was first called up to Denmark's senior national squad in March and made his debut as a late substitute in a 40 win over North Macedonia. In his second appearance, he came off the bench to head Denmark's equaliser in their World Cup play-off final against the Czech Republic only for his side to lose out in a penalty shoot-out.

Caitlin Clark admits relentless media coverage is emotionally exhausting
Credit: ESPNIt should not be possible, but the dialogue around Caitlin Clark is reaching new bizarre heights. And in a sit-down interview with ESPN, the Indiana Fever star opened up about the effect all the controversy has had on her personally. The latest saga this week was a widely-criticized column from USA Today writer Nancy Armour that attempted to link Clark trying to draw fouls to the racist and hateful rhetoric that people are using to abuse and threaten Black WNBA players. Armour went well out of bounds by suggesting that Clark herself was responsible for the actions of these individuals. And she even linked her on-court behavior to the lynching of Emmett Till.Unfortunately, Clarks name being used in controversial headlines is nothing new. In spite of her continued focus on playing basketball or even the public statements she has made to condemn hate and lift up Black WNBA stars, common sense and decency have yet to prevail. And in a rare instance where she pulled back the curtain personally, she opened up about the effect the medias unrelenting coverage has had on her in a SportsCenter interview with Malika Andrews,I get people have a job to do, but at the same time, dont make accusations about my character and who I am when you dont know me.Caitlin Clark sits down with @malika_andrews for a candid conversation. pic.twitter.com/IA0jLReHOd SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) July 24, 2026I think a lot of it is not always based in reality. I feel like media and journalism have a responsibility to tell the stories, and a lot of the time you guys are the ones controlling the narratives about what people read and what people talk about. And a lot of that is sometimes so far out of touch with what is reality. And that can be confusing to somebody thats 24 and trying to navigate life and trying to help her team win a championship, Clark said. The Fever star also touched on an incident during a game against the Phoenix Mercury. Even though Clark and Alyssa Thomas moved on from what was retroactively upgraded as a Flagrant 2 Foul, the video of Thomas fist in Clarks throat became a lightning rod moment. And not only did the media pounce, but the WNBA also failed to handle the moment. It seems like theres always a moment like that in every season that Ive played so far. And I think for myself, I just try to navigate it the best I can. It gets exhausting, it gets frustrating, because I think especially thats a perfect example of, like, yeah, it was a hard foul. And it should have been dealt with in the moment, and they should have decided what it was then and reviewed it. Great, we move on. You see it happen in the NBA all the time, Clark stated. Its not anything more than that. Its basketball. When I walk out of the locker room, I shouldnt be, not fearful, of what the conversation is gonna be. But its emotionally exhausting. Its draining. It makes your shoulders tense. Because people dont want to talk about the basketball, they just wanna stir it up and make something else.Caitlin Clark then addressed the media coverage of her that extends far beyond basketball to political and cultural voices and everyone trying to ride her coattails of stardom. She said that she has been falsely characterized over the course of her career and that the people who comment on her every move dont know her as a human being.I think theres just a false characterization of who I am sometimes. And I get it, as a reporter or as a blogger, you can write an opinion piece, and thats your job and whatever. But at the same time, you dont know me. Weve never had a conversation. I get people have a job to do. But at the same time, dont make accusations about my character and who I am when you dont know me, Clark said.I understand this is your job and this is your profession, and this is what you get to do. And basketball is my profession, what I get to do. And the reason I play it is when I step in between the lines, I love it. And thats whats so fun about it for me is I get to compete. This was always my dream. And nobody should ever try to take that away from me.Given everything that has circled around her since the moment she entered the WNBA, its incredible that Caitlin Clark has maintained a sense of grace and dignity in the way that she approaches these in interviews with the media. Hopefully everyone, including Clarks supporters and detractors, sees this message and can heed the call to focus on basketball moving forward in finally making that a reality. The least that the media can do is respect Clarks own wishes on that front. The post Caitlin Clark admits relentless media coverage is emotionally exhausting appeared first on Awful Announcing.

How Rams will change training camp to aid Ty Simpsons development
WOODLAND HILLS, CALIFORNIA - MAY 28: Ty Simpson #15 of the Los Angeles Rams sets up to pass during organized team activities workout at Rams Village at the Warner Center on May 28, 2026 in Woodland Hills, California. (Photo by Kevin Terrell/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesFirst-round draft pick Ty Simpson inked his rookie contract with the Los Angeles Rams. Hell battle with Stetson Bennett to earn the rights to backup Matthew Stafford. As players report to training camp, it seems the Rams have a plan to both manage Staffords workload and provide additional opportunities to Simpson in order to aid in his development. Nate Atkins from The Athletic touched on this Saturday:The plan for Simpson is to sit and learn behind Stafford for as long as the reigning MVP continues to play. The Rams feel as if he could use that learning after starting just one season at Alabama, when he led the Crimson Tide to the second round of the College Football Playoff and finished with 28 touchdown passes and five interceptionsSimpson will see some reps this summer as Stafford manages a degenerative back issue. The Rams have broken training camp into four-day blocks where Stafford will practice on the second and third days while resting on the first and fourth days. Stafford will not participate in the teams first practice on Sunday.Simpson will use this training camp, as well as three preseason games, to try to beat out Stetson Bennett for the No. 2 quarterback role. Jimmy Garoppolo had held that spot for the past two seasons but is a free agent considering retirement. The Rams have seemingly drawn the conclusion after watching Stafford miss the entirety of last years camp and then going on to win the NFLs MVP award that the veteran probably doesnt need much practice. You cant argue with the results. Similar to how Jimmy Garoppolo kept the train on tracks in 2025, this approach now creates opportunities that otherwise wouldnt be there for Bennett and Simpson to train with the starters. Its also more straightforward to evaluate quarterback play when they are operating with a strong supporting cast.Stafford could sit out half of Rams practicesor at least that is the plan for the first week of training camp. That means plenty of time in the spotlight for Simpson. Its time for the rookie to put on a show.
