Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Cyrus Allen spoke with reporters after practice on Sunday at Missouri Western State University. He commented on the first few days of camp and learning the complexity of the playbook."They definitely were right that this is one of the hardest training camps for sure," said Allen, "Just getting my feet wet and understanding like the playbook and everything and just keep going for real. That's really it."Allen tied for third last season in the FBS with 13 receiving touchdowns, setting a University of Cincinnati single-season record. He is seeking an opportunity for playing time as a rookie as he continues to learn head coach Andy Reid's system."Just learning every spot," said Allen, "I'm a guy that tried to learn the whole playbook from, like, even the protections and everything, so that's kind of how I think, so I can be available for it if my number is called."During his last college season, Allen was named Second-team All-Big 12 Conference and led Cincinnati with 51 receptions and 674 receiving yards. (Photo by Ryan Kang/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesIn what has been an exceptionally newsworthy offseason for the Los Angeles Rams, the specter of an Aaron Donald return to the royal and sol is the biggest story of the year.Granted, part of that is influenced by the fact that this is the dead period for NFL news, so our minds cling on to the few stories that do exist and turn them into headline news consistently since theres nothing else going on in the football world until the whole league reports for training camp.But in a spring and summer that has featured a trade for an All-Pro cornerback, a trade for the reigning defensive player of the year and drafting Matthew Staffords expected successor in the first round, Donald and his will-he, wont-he saga still has a chokehold on the league.If he returns to the Rams, it takes the best roster in the league to yet another level. After all, he is one of the best defensive players in NFL history and hes still young enough that youre not worried about his body breaking down like you would be when someone like Philip Rivers reemerged from retirement for the end of the 2025 season in Indianapolis. It would be a major boon for that Rams defense.Former Rams DT Aaron Donald is going through a "very strict, regimented process" to decide whether he wants to unretire this season, Rams head coach Sean McVay said.And if Donald does decide he wants to play, McVay said, "we are going to try to be able to make that happen." In fact, the expectation should be that this is one of the most fearsome units in the sport whether Donald suits up or not.Take a look at the talent across the Rams front seven. There arent many teams in the NFL that have even remotely as much talent and production as this group does. Myles Garrett is currently the best defensive player in the league, at least among front-seven players, and weve spent tons of time this offseason discussing how much hell help Byron Young (and how high of a floor Young already has).On the line, you start with Kobie Turner, easily one of the best players in the game without a Pro Bowl honor over the last three years. Braden Fiske is healthy and almost certainly hasnt hit his ceiling yet. And anchoring the middle is the perennially underrated Poona Ford, whos as good of a run stopper at nose tackle as there is in professional football. Just based on names and reputations alone, thats a fantastic group.The production backs up the reputations, too. Last season, the Rams ranked fifth in the NFL in pressure rate (per NFL Pro/Next Gen Stats) and eighth in Pass Rush Win Rate (per ESPN). They did that despite ranking 24th in average get-off time, defined as the average amount of time it takes to get over the line of scrimmage. Who finished first? The Cleveland Browns, led by the Who finished first among qualified defensive linemen in average get-off? Jared Verse, who was shipped off to Cleveland in the Garrett trade, brought a lot to the table as a run stopper off the edge, but its not like Garrett is a DPR (designated pass rusher), hes going to hold up there just fine.The personnel transformation on defense for Los Angeles this offseason has put this franchise in a great position to win it all. The talent is there. The dont need Aaron Donald back to be the favorites to win the Super Bowl, they already are without him on the roster. It would be remarkable and a no-doubt boost if he returns, but the Rams have done spectacularly well at putting themselves in a position where they dont need to add another Hall of Famer to spark a championship run.Thats a pretty comfortable spot to be in.

The Jaguars put a pair of offensive linemen on their physically unable to perform list ahead of the start of their training camp. They announced that Cole Van Lanen and Garret DiGiorgio have been placed on the list. Both players will be ineligible to practice until they are off of it and they can be activated at any time. Van Lanen closed out the 2025 regular season as the team's starting left tackle, but he injured his knee in Week 18. He started 10 games overall and has played 50 games for Jacksonville over the last four seasons. DiGiorgio started at guard and tackle while at UCLA. He signed with the Jaguars after going undrafted this year.

A day after the Jacksonville Jaguars rookies reported to training camp and two days before they are joined by the rest of the roster, the team placed left tackle Cole Van Lanen and rookie offensive tackle Garrett DiGiorgio on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on July 26.Once healthy, Van Lanen projects as the Jaguars' starting left tackle. The expectation is Walker LIttle will take the first-team left tackle snaps when training camp practice opens on July 29.Van Lanen sustained his right knee injury in the Week 18 win over the Tennessee Titans and missed the playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. Van Lanen did side-field work throughout the Jaguars offseason program.DiGiorgio, an undrafted rookie from UCLA, participated in the Jaguars offseason program. His injury is undisclosed.Van Lanen and DiGiorgio still count toward the NFLs 90-man roster limit (the Jaguars have 91 players because of an international player exemption) and can be activated at any point.Players on the PUP list cant participate in on-field drills with the rest of the team.Van Lanen was initially selected by theGreen Bay Packersin the 2021 NFL Draft, but was placed on the practice squad that season. He appeared in just one game before being traded to the Jaguars in 2022.For his first few seasons in Jacksonville, Van Lanen largely remained on the bench until 2025, when he had a breakout season. [Getty Images]Olympic gymnast Ruby Evans failed to claim a Commonwealth Games medal in the women's all-round individual competition in Glasgow.Evans had qualified second and was considered a medal hope for Wales.The 19-year-old was in second place at the halfway stage of the competition but suffered a poor balance beam discipline on the third rotation. A slip from the beam left her with too much to do for a podium finish despite a thrilling performance on the floor, finishing sixth overall.Her Welsh team-mate Emily Roper finished one place behind her in seventh with a score of 50.350 from her four rotations.Roper entered the final rotation just 0.5 points off a podium spot, but her medal hopes were dashed after falling to her side upon landing a somersault in her floor routine.The gold medal was won by Canada's Elsabeth Black.Roper will go again in the vault final alongside her twin sister Abigail on Monday afternoon before also competing in the uneven bars.Evans, meanwhile, will contest the uneven beam and the floor finals on Tuesday.The highest ever finish for a Welsh female gymnast in the all-around competition remains fifth place by Elizabeth Beddoe in Glasgow in 2014.The 16 finalists competed over the four disciplines of vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor.
