SPORTS.YAHOO.COMOscar De La Hoya says he's reconciled 'once again' with Ryan Garcia, blasts Zuffa Boxing for 'petty' tacticsOscar De La Hoya and Ryan Garcia's up-and-down relationship seems to have taken yet another turn.Garcia told Uncrowned this past week that his relationship with his promoter, Golden Boy's De La Hoya, remained strained and he was disappointed with De La Hoya's public comments putting down Garcia's Sept. 12 WBC welterweight title defense against Conor Benn.Since Garcia made those statements, though, De La Hoya said the parties have apparently mended fences."We had a talk the other day it's great," De La Hoya said of his relationship with Garcia on Monday's "The Ariel Helwani Show." "It's good. We had a discussion the other day, and I know he said a couple things on ['The Ariel Helwani Show' last Monday] and this and that, but we talked to each other everything is great."He called for a meeting, for a sit-down conversation, which I gladly accepted," De La Hoya continued. "I mean, he's a Golden Boy fighter. And so, yeah, we just worked things out once again. [We said,] 'Hey, let's be clear here. Let's make sure we don't talk s*** to each other. Let's make sure that we make the biggest events happen,' and I was all for that obviously. "I'm a promoter. I want to make sure this big fight is the biggest it can be, and I want to make sure that Ryan Garcia is clear-headed enough to go out there and knock out Conor Benn."Garcia and De La Hoya have been at odds on multiple occasions in the past, though each time the pair have claimed to work through their differences and continued their business partnership. But how many times can a relationship fracture and be repaired before the damage becomes permanent if it isn't already?De La Hoya told Uncrowned that after Garcia faces Benn on Sept. 12 in Las Vegas, the welterweight champ has just one fight remaining on his Golden Boy contract. Considering that Garcia's last two bouts have been on Turki Alalshikh shows and Alalshikh works heavily with Dana White's Zuffa Boxing, some have raised questions about whether Zuffa is a natural landing spot for Garcia once his Golden Boy deal expires.De La Hoya acknowledged he won't be surprised if Garcia is a target for Zuffa Boxing."They're coming after everybody," De La Hoya said. "These guys are, like I said [on my 'Clapback Thursday' social media post], they're the Trojan Horse, and just watch out. Trust me, just watch out. They are the Trojan horse, and the rest is history from there."Oscar De La Hoya and Ryan Garcia continue to have one of boxing's rockiest promoter/fighter relationships.Cris Esqueda/Golden Boy via Getty ImagesZuffa, after all, is the lead promoter for Garcia vs. Benn a promotion that De La Hoya is already finding himself left out of."How f***ing petty are these guys not to include me [in the launch press conference] and make sure I'm not on stage? What, are they afraid that I'm going to sock Dana in the nose? Of course I'm going to be there. Of course I'm going to be promoting it," De La Hoya insisted. "Ryan Garcia everybody knows he's my fighter, he's under Golden Boy. "We're looking forward to a big, massive event. I believe the other day Turki Alalshikh said that $6 million plus [worth of tickets] have already been sold, so yeah, it's going to be a big event, so I'm really looking forward to being a part of it."The Garcia-Benn kickoff press conference was held at Fanatics Fest in New York earlier this month. The only boxer showcased at Fanatics Fest not to be signed with Zuffa Boxing was Garcia although he was advertised under the same banner."I wasn't even aware of [the Garcia-Benn press conference], and that's what they do," De La Hoya said of Zuffa Boxing. "That's what these people do. They try to slip by one under me. I really do believe they are trying to keep me away from Dana, because they know what's going to happen.""Obviously I'm not going to punch anybody, but they're trying to keep everything from me, and they all know Ryan Garcia is a Golden Boy fighter and this is a Golden Boy event, and this is [only] a Zuffa event [as well] because Turki bought the event and he included Zuffa because obviously Conor is a Zuffa fighter now. Let's all work together and everything will be fine. Don't be afraid."De La Hoya insists his relationship with Garcia has been repaired, yet Golden Boy's diminishing role in Garcia's career suggests their latest reconciliation may be arriving just as the Garcia/Golden Boy partnership approaches its end. Garcia himself told Uncrowned this past week that he will look to move on from Golden Boy after completing his contract.0 Comments 0 Shares 64 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMSection 1's private schools playoffs ban overturned by NYSPHSAA appealA month after Section 1 moved to ban private schools from its postseason tournaments, the four schools that would have been impacted got reprieve from the state. In a unanimous decision by its appeal panel on July 27, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association overturned the Section 1 ruling that would have barred Albertus Magnus, The Ursuline School, Keio Academy and The Leffell School from competing in the sectional playoffs.Section 1 member schools had voted overwhelmingly in June to amend its constitution, precluding private schools from participating in the playoffs against local public school teams beginning in the 2027-28 school year. That proposal, which needed a two-thirds majority, passed by a 69-4 margin. However, three of the impacted schools turned to the governing body of high school sports in the state, which upheld their appeal, concluding that Section 1 had overstepped its authority granted under the NYSPHSAA constitution."This decision affirms the importance of fairness, consistency, and due process in educational athletics," Ursuline School president Dr. Colleen Melnyk said in a news release Monday. "We are grateful to the Appeal Panel for its careful review and to Albertus Magnus and Keio Academy for their partnership throughout this process. We now look forward to moving ahead in a spirit of collaboration and continuing to provide meaningful opportunities for all student-athletes."It's not yet known what, if any, steps Section 1 will take in response. The Journal News/lohud is awaiting response from section administrators. The NYSPHSAA Appeal Panel is responsible for conducting a thorough review of all documentation submitted by the parties and considering the presentations made by both the schools and the Section before rendering a decision in accordance with the NYSPHSAA Constitution, Rules, and Regulations, NYSPHSAA executive director Robert Zayas wrote in a statement to lohud.Section 1 had lobbied in recent years for NYSPHSAA to establish separate postseason tournaments for public and non-public schools statewide, but there wasn't much support for that from the other 10 geographic sections. In an April vote to adjust the current structure, only Section 2 (Albany area) and Section 4 (Binghamton area) stood in support of Section 1's push. That roadblock prompted Section 1 to amend its own constitution in an attempt to force the change. This, of course, stems from the longstanding argument that private schools don't operate under the same restrictions as public schools and have an unfair advantage in being able to draw talent from beyond its district boundaries. The Albertus Magnus girls basketball team went undefeated against local opponents en route to a third consecutive state championship in March. The girls soccer team lost only once to a Section 1 opponent and went on to capture a third state title in four years last fall. Ursuline has maintained an excellent girls basketball program and its coach, Beth Wooters, surpassed 700 career victories in 2025.Their sustained success, in particular the dynastic runs, have drawn frequent complaints from other school communities, believing those powerhouse teams represent a glass ceiling in the Section 1 tournament."These decisions are never easy, but it is important that we rely on the established process when addressing difficult and often emotional matters," Zayas said. "We remain committed to following our governance procedures while encouraging continued discussion through the Associations committee structure should the membership wish to consider future rule changes. Ultimately, our responsibility is to make decisions that uphold the integrity of our rules while serving the best interests of the student-athletes of New York."Stephen Haynes covers sports for The Journal News/lohud.This article originally appeared on Rockland/Westchester Journal News: Section 1's private schools playoffs ban overturned by NYSPHSAA appeal0 Comments 0 Shares 52 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhy Alec Pierce landing on PUP list could be nerve-wrackingWhen the Indianapolis Colts signed wide receiver Alec Pierce to a four-year, $114 million contract this offseason, they clearly expected him to perform like a true No. 1 receiver. That might come to fruition eventually, but Pierces ankle rehab will keep him sidelined for the start of training camp and it has prevented him from taking the field so far this entire offseason. The Colts placed Pierce on the physically unable to perform list on Monday, with training camp practices slated to open on Wednesday. Head coach Shane Steichen said Pierce will return eventually, and the team will have a ramp-up plan in place when hes cleared. Is there cause for concern? Lets dive into the details of Pierces situation.Best- and worst-case scenarios for Alec Pierce landing on PUP listPierce underwent ankle surgery in late March after signing the extension and was facing 4-6 months of rehab time then. Were at the four-month mark now, and Pierce remains shelved. Thats the bad news. The good news is that he can come off anytime, and as soon as Pierce does, he can practice right away. More than anything, the PUP list is a procedural safety net to protect teams in case some injuries take longer to heal. But if Pierces recovery time stretches out closer to the six-month range, hed be returning sometime around Week 3. The Colts play the Ravens, Chiefs and Texans three AFC heavyweights the first three games of the season. They need him out there, especially after letting Michael Pittman Jr. walk this offseason and with last years collapse still leaving a bad aftertaste.Right now, theres no indication that Pierce is going to miss regular-season time. But he also needs the proper runway heading into the season. The Colts might opt to hold him out of preseason action, but in a perfect world (or as close to perfection as is possible now), theyll want to get their WR1 ample practice reps to get up to full speed by Week 1.The Colts are already holding their breath at quarterback, where Daniel Jones is returning from an Achilles injury he suffered less than eight months ago. Jones has proclaimed himself ready to go, no holds barred, for the start of camp. Thats great news. But thats also a very speedy rehab period, even these days. The Colts have a diverse offense, but thats with a healthy Jones and a healthy Pierce. Without Pierce, the firepower changes dramatically, even as he hasnt been a high-volume receiver to this point. Josh Downs is a solid option, and TE Tyler Warren figures to have an even bigger role in Year 2, but Pierces vertical speed is what helped make this Colts offense at its best what it was in 2025.More is expected in 2026 after the Colts made Pierce the 13th-highest-paid receiver in the league. He has led the NFL in yards per reception in each of the past two seasons, but hes also only 52nd in receptions, 21st in receiving yards and 17th in receiving TDs, among wideouts. Pierce was targeted only 84 times last season and has averaged 74 over his four seasons; that number almost has to be over 100 if Pierce can play a full season. The panic level is low now, but with each day and week missed, it rises just a bit more.Revisiting Pierces ankle surgery, which was Plan BOne thing that stands out with Pierces ankle surgery was the timing. He waited until late March, a few weeks after re-signing, before going forward with it. Pierce said this offseason he felt that the surgery was unavoidable after previously attempting platelet-rich plasma treatment in January, which didnt have the desired effect.Pierces doctors wanted him to give the PRP treatment ample time, six to eight weeks, to take effect. But it never did. After not seeing results, he went under the knife. Thats one reason why Pierce is set to miss the start of camp. The injury is a chronic one that Pierce said dates back to the 2024 season. It got progressively worse as the 2025 season wore on, even if Pierces production didnt see a noticeable dip and in fact, his TD rate went way up, with all six of his TDs coming in Week 8 and after. He had two two-TD outings in that span, too, in Weeks 16 and 18.But Pierce also had a few duds: one-catch outings in road losses to the Chiefs and Seahawks and a goose egg in a loss to the Jaguars right after the Colts were eliminated from the playoffs. Was it the ankle? Pierce was forced to skip some practices and really manage his workload. Then again, one of the knocks on Pierce has been inconsistent production, failing to watch five or more passes in consecutive games in his 64-game career. The dream scenario is obviously that the surgery did the desired job, Pierce will be cleared to play early in camp and he can ramp his way back to full strength well in advance of Week 1. If so, the Colts might truly have a game breaker whos in line for a higher rate of production. But if there are hangups in his rehab, or the injury doesnt fully clear, it changes the Colts picture significantly.0 Comments 0 Shares 53 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMOne more? Conor McGregor teases his Last Dance after UFC 329 disasterLAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JULY 11: Conor McGregor of Ireland enters the Octagon in a welterweight fight during the UFC 329 event at T-Mobile Arena on July 11, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC)Is the end coming? It has been just over two weeks since former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) two-division championConor McGregorinally returned to competition against Max Holloway at UFC 329.Unfortunately, his highly-anticipated comeback lasted just 69 seconds, as McGregor injured his knee in Sin City and was unable to continue (watch it).It has since been revealed that McGregor tore his ACL and meniscus at UFC 329 and will be out for roughly one year. Before the entire fiasco, Notorious revealed that his next fight had already been signed for April 2027. However, because of the injury, he is now pushing that date back to next summer for International Fight Week 2027.And apparently, it will be his final fight. What was to be a generational beating is now to be reset, McGregor wrote on Instagram. IFW 2027 The Last Dance.View this post on InstagramMcGregor has one fight left on his current UFC contract, meaning if he does not re-sign before his next appearance, he will become a free agent for the first time in his legendary combat sports career. That would open the door for McGregor to field offers from other promotions and platforms, including a possible MVP MMA fight against Nate Diaz on Netflix, a bare knuckle move to BKFC or even a return to boxing. And while it might sound crazy that UFC would let its golden goose fly away, the reality is complicated.McGregor will be 39 years old by the time he returns, is currently riding a three-fight losing streak and has not won a fight since stopping Donald Cerrone in 2020.That does not exactly scream long-term future.Of course, a lot can happen in one year, especially when McGregor is involved. Maybe UFC re-signs him. Maybe The Last Dance is just another tease. Maybe he fights once more and walks away for good.Who knows? But for now, expect McGregor to return in July 2027.Maybe.To checkout UFCs upcoming schedule of events click here.0 Comments 0 Shares 59 Views 0 Reviews

Anytime I get the ball in hand the team looks to me to be that solid player for them [and] try to dig us out of situations."To get five wickets for the first time in Test cricket, I'm really happy, but there's still a lot of work to do in the game."Pakistan captain Shan Masood was Greaves' first wicket at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad when he was bowled for 109 in the 64th over following a superb set-up.Greaves had pushed the ball wide to the left-hander from over the wicket before he tailed a delivery back into Masood who played down the wrong line and inside edged on to his stumps.Aamer Jamal had his middle stump uprooted in Greaves' next over as the seamer speared one through his defences.Greaves then trapped Ali Usman lbw before he had Mohammed Rizwan and Mohammad Abbas both caught behind as Pakistan lost their last seven wickets for just 38 runs.West Indies reached stumps on day three on 126-7 in their second innings - a lead of 155 runs - to leave the match finely poised.Notifications, social media and more with BBC Sport0 Comments 0 Shares 54 Views 0 Reviews

WWW.FOXSPORTS.COMWill Juan Soto Play Again This Season? '100 Percent,' Says Mets StarNew York Mets slugger Juan Soto says he expects to play again this season, even after being placed on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain. "Yeah, 100 percent," Soto said Monday when asked about returning this season, two days after being put on the IL. The five-time All-Star landed on the injured list for the second time Saturday after imaging revealed a grade 2 strain. The injury is expected to sideline him for longer than the 15 games he missed with a strained right calf in April. "Were just taking it week by week, day by day," Soto said before the opener of a three-game series with Atlanta. "Were trying to see how I feel. Definitely Im young enough to recover quick. So we dont know how Im going to feel tomorrow, the next day." Mets interim manager Andy Green said the plan is to get Soto completely healthy before discussing a timeline for his return. "We think the timelines line up that theres enough of a season left that its worthwhile to get one of your best players back on the field and go win baseball games," Green said. Soto walked twice against Los Angeles Dodgers starter Roki Sasaki during Friday nights 4-2 loss at Citi Field before being replaced by pinch-hitter Jorge Polanco in the sixth inning with the score tied at 1. Soto is hitting .283 with 21 homers, 52 RBIs and an .947 OPS in 84 games in his second season with the Mets. He sat out Wednesdays 4-3 loss at Milwaukee, but was back in the lineup Friday after the Mets had a day off. "We were expecting something because I was definitely going through a lot," Soto said. "I was in a lot of pain, but I just kept pushing." The lone All-Star for the last-place Mets this season, Soto left the teams first game after the break in the eighth inning on July 16 at Philadelphia. New York was off the following day, and he returned to the lineup as the designated hitter on Saturday and Sunday against the Phillies. He played left field last Monday in Milwaukee and was the DH on Tuesday. "Im trying to go out there and help my team to win ballgames, so whatever it takes," Soto said. "Sometimes its tough. We were hoping that it goes the other way and I get better and healthier and I could keep going." The Mets (44-62) are 4-13 during Sotos injured list stints. Because of a left calf strain that cost Francisco Lindor two months, the Mets have had their shortstop and Soto in the lineup for 28 games this season. If Soto returns, the Mets' roster could look different with the Aug. 3 trade deadline approaching. "We never expected to be in this kind of spot by now," Soto said. "I always trusted that we had the talent to turn it around and to compete this year." Reporting by The Associated Press.0 Comments 0 Shares 58 Views 0 Reviews -
