So much for a quiet start to camp for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Extension talks between Vita Vea and the franchise have officially hit a wall and the two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle is now requesting a trade out of Tampa Bay,ESPN first reported and confirmed by our Greg Auman. Vea plans to be in attendance when Buccaneers' veterans report for camp on Tuesday, though, meaning he won't hold out, Auman added. Vea is entering the final year of the four-year, $73 million extension he signed in 2022. According to his agent,Collin Roberts, the trade request follows unsuccessful negotiations between Vea and the Buccaneers front office on a new deal. Vea has done nothing but impress since being selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Not only is he one of the leagues most dominant interior defensive linemen and a two-time Pro Bowler, but he also played a major role in the Buccaneers' Super Bowl LV run. Since taking over as a full-time starter in 2019, his presence in the interior has consistently produced one of the leagues premier run defenses. The Buccaneers posted three straight top-three finishes in total defense from 2019-21. They returned to being a top-five defense in 2023, thanks to players like Vea. During that stretch, the 347-pound Vea led a defensive front that allowed 92.58 rushing yards per game. Through eight seasons with the Buccaneers, Vea has logged 256 total tackles (154 solo), 35 sacks, and three forced fumbles across 112 regular-season games. It remains unclear if a reconciliation is possible or if an extension can be reached. If not, Vea could be one of the best defensive tackles to switch teams since the New York Jets traded Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys ahead of the 2025 trade deadline. In the event that Tampa Bay decides to move Vea, his preferred trade destination appears to be on the West Coast. Vea prefers to return closer to home and be traded to a California team or the Las Vegas Raiders, according to The Athletic.

Marcus Rashford has been warned that he must issue an "almighty statement" to Manchester United supporters and staff if he is to have any hope of resurrecting his career at Old Trafford. After spending the last 18 months away from the club on loan, the England international is due to return to a squad that has moved on without him under the leadership of Michael Carrick. Proving Loyalty To Carrick Following loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona, the 28-year-old finds himself at a crossroads. Rashford's commitment was openly questioned in the first half of the 2024-25 season when he expressed a desire for a fresh challenge away from Manchester. talkSPORT host Hugh Woozencroft echoed these concerns, stating: "Rashford said he wanted a new challenge and unless you can be 100 per cent sure he is completely committed to Man United he's shown he wasn't fully committed the last time he was at the club how can you be sure he's going to be this time around?" Former England international Micky Gray believes the forward must address the circumstances of his departure and confirm his dedication to the club's new era, if he truly wants another chance. "There's a few things here, The most important one is, if Rashford has a future at Man United, he has to do an almighty statement of why he wants to be at Man United and what the reasons were to leave the club in the first place. I think that's a priority that he has to do," Gray told talkSPORT. Falling Down The Old Trafford Pecking Order While Rashford enjoyed a productive season in Spain, scoring 14 goals for a Barcelona side that secured the La Liga title, he will soon return to a United squad that has significantly evolved. Gray warned that the academy graduate must prepare for a reduced role if he stays, stating: "If he does stay then he's got to get used to being a bit-part player. He's not first on the list; he's not going to be playing every week.. [Bryan] Mbuemo, [Matheus] Cunha, [Benjamin] Sesko, Amad to name a few. They've caught up to and if not surpassed Rashford." Gray explained that the physical demands of the English game will also pose a significant challenge for the winger after his time in Catalunya, adding: "Spain is not England .He did very well, but he can play at Barcelona at a different level to what he can at Man United. He can't deny that the Premier League is 100mph he's going to have to get himself super fit in pre-season." International Form vs Domestic Expectations Despite the uncertainty surrounding his club future, Rashford remains a regular fixture in the England setup, having helped the Three Lions to a third-place finish at the 2026 World Cup. He featured in six of England's eight matches during the tournament and scored in the 4-2 victory against Croatia, reminding onlookers of his quality on the global stage. However, Gray pointed out: "We saw the good and the bad of Rashford for England at the World Cup. Can Man United utilise him in a way they can expect to see the good side and not the bad side? Former Florida quarterback Will Grier has called it a career after seven years in the NFL. He'll join the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff as an offensive assistant, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.Grier came to prominence with West Virginia University, but he originally signed as a four-star recruit with the Gators. He competed with Treon Harris for the backup role to Jeff Driskel in 2014 and ended up redshirting. In 2015, he competed again with Harris, this time for the starting job, but didn't get the gig.Despite Harris starting the season's first game, Grier got playing time, completing 16 of 18 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns. He took over the starting role in the second game and held onto the role until midway through the season. Over six games, Grier had 1,205 passing yards and 10 touchdowns on 106 completions. He also ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns.Two days after his start against Missouri, Grier was suspended for one year following a positive test for a performance-enhancing drug. Grier claimed ignorance of the drug Ligandrol being a banned substance and appealed the suspension. The NCAA denied his appeal and he sat out until the sixth game of the 2016 season.Over the offseason, Grier transferred to West Virginia. He sat out the 2016 season and entered 2017 as the presumed starter for the Mountaineers and played 22 games over the next two seasons. He finished fourth in the Heisman voting in 2018, ending his college career with 8,558 passing yards, 81 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. Will Grier in the NFLThe Carolina Panthers selected Grier in the third round of the 2019 NFL draft, making his first career start in Week 16 of the same season. He exited the Week 17 game with an injury and never made it into another regular-season game. He remained the third-string quarterback for most of his time in Carolina and was released in August 2021.Dallas claimed Grier off waivers to serve as the third-string quarterback. He was waived the following August and signed to the practice squad before being elevated a month later. The Cowboys released Grier ahead of the 2023 season but gave him the chance to start a preseason game, in which he threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns adding two more touchdowns on the ground.He bounced from Cincinnati to New England before landing with Los Angeles as an emergency backup following an injury to starter Justin Herbert. The Philadelphia Eagles signed him to a one-year contract in 2024, but he was released in August and resigned to the practice squad. Grier was released again in November and ended the season back on the Cowboys.Dallas released and re-signed Grier to a practice squad contract in 2025. He signed a reserve/futures deal with Dallas in March of this year, but was released a month later. Grier's final stop before retirement was with the Carolina Panthers, who signed him as a free agent in April. He announced his retirement from football in July. Michigan basketball appears to have added another buy-game to its schedule.The Wolverines are set to host Toledo on Dec. 30, 2026, at Crisler Center as part of their nonconference schedule, according to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein. The two teams have met 23 times in their history, with Michigan winning 15 in a series that date back to the 1918-19 season. He has three seasons of eligibility instead of two.ThoughtsPurdues three leading receivers in 2025, Michael Jackson III, Nitro Tuggle, and EJ Horton, were all similar receivers. They were around 60, 190, give or take an inch and a couple of pounds either direction. Those three have either graduated or left to seek their football fortunes elsewhere. Tiggle is a talented player; losing him hurt, but overall, Purdue will have a more diverse and significantly more talented group of receivers in 2026. I see this as a major area of improvement.I wasnt the only one who noticed Purdues lack of size on the outside last season. It looks like the coaching staff was well aware of that shortcoming and brought in a couple of big bodies for the outside in 2026. Bisi Owens is a 64, 215-pound security blanket for Ryan Browne. The former Penn standout has 26 starts under his belt in the Ivy League and is looking to add 12 more in the Big 12. Hes more of a possession receiver than a downfield burner, but his ability to go up and get the ball allows him to be both a downfield and redzone threat. On the other hand, 64, 210-pound junior college transfer Ricky Sampson could very well be the downfield burner. Sampson is a former quarterback who started seven games for Webber International before transferring to Victor Valley College and taking up wide receiver. He had 49 receptions for 606 yards and 3 touchdowns in his first season of being a pass catcher instead of a pass thrower. Note that 2 of those 3 touchdowns were good for over 50 yards. He gets an extra season to work on his craft with the new eligibility rules, making him an even better pickup for both the short and long term. He has the ability to scare opposing defenses on the outside with his combination of size and speed.Jaylan Hornsby started three games for Syracuse last season as a redshirt freshman. Hes listed at 63, 215, and similar to Bisi Owens in terms of style of play. Hes got a big frame, and he uses it to box out defenders both on the sideline and over the middle. Hell be part of the rotation in some fashion this season and could be more of a factor moving forward in his career.While the portal guy / juco guys should help right away, Purdue could also get an injection of talent from their own roster if former 4* receiver Jalil Hall can come all the way back from a knee injury he sustained in the season opener against Ball State last season. At 64, 185, Hall was going to get significant action on the outside in 2025 if he stayed healthy, which, of course, he did not. Bringing Sampson in allows the staff to work Hall back in at his own pace. Hall has WR1 potential in the future.Purdue made it a point to get bigger on the perimeter, but their most experienced signings operate out of the slot. Xavier Townsend was UCFs starting slot receiver and punt returner in 2023. He caught 33 passes for 325 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran the ball 15 times for 163 yards. He only played in 4 games at UCF in 2024 before shutting things down, taking a redshirt, and transferring to Iowa State in 2025. Things didnt work out for Townsend in Ames. He appeared in 10 games, starting 1, and was mostly a non-factor in the offense. One of the reasons Townsend picked Purdue is current Boilermaker quarterback coach Darin Hinshaw. Hinshaw was the offensive coordinator at UCF in 2024 and should help incorporate the shifty wideout into Purdues attack both in the air and on the ground.Asaad Waseem is another interesting slot receiver who put up big numbers in his first real college football action last season. Waseem signed with Colorado out of high school, spent two seasons on Coach Primes bench, transferred to FAU, and put up 66 receptions for 699 yards and five touchdowns in 2025. Hes a pure slot receiver, adept at getting open in tight spaces. He had 12 receptions for 109 yards against UConn. He had 4 receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown against Maryland in his debut. Most people have Bisi Owens as the favorite to lead Purdue in receptions in 2026, but dont sleep on Waseem. Getting open is a skill, and he got open last season at FAU. He could do the same thing at Purdue.Returning wide receiver Corey Smith was useful in 2025, bringing in 14 receptions for 237 yards and a touchdown in 2025. His stats should look better, but he had a couple of nasty drops. If he fixes the drops, hes a perfectly serviceable receiver capable of playing in the slot or kicking outside to the boundary. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that Purdue should have significantly better options this season. Smith is going to have to fight for his playing time in fall camp. One of those other options is true freshman Brandon Kinsey. The 61, 190-pound receiver out of Miami Central High School was the talk of spring practice. Hes not the biggest guy on the field, but when he hits the gas, it looks different. The coaching staff thinks they have a steal on their hands after plucking Kinsey out of Florida. Ive heard the spring hype before, but keep an eye on Kinsey; hell have every opportunity to prove spring wasnt a fluke in fall camp. If he does, theres nothing keeping him off the field in 2026.The coaches love 59, 155-pound Jesse Watson. He had 8 receptions for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns last season and could be in line for more action both in the slot and on gadget plays in 2026. He has game-breaking quickness in the open field and turns faster than any defensive back trying to cover him on an option route. Its up to offensive coordinator Josh Henson to find him some space. If Henson does his job, Watson can make the first man miss.Finally, DeNylon Morrissette and Chauncey Magwood are back for one last go at things. Morrissette, a transfer from Georgia in 2023, has yet to live up to his 4* high school billing, mainly due to a series of injuries. He didnt play at all last season, and I have no idea what you can expect from him in 2026. If hes healthy, hes talented enough to make a difference, or at least he was before all the injuries. He needs to make a statement in camp, and that statement is my legs work.The same can be said for Chauncey Magwood, the former Kentucky and UCF receiver, who was supposed to help out last season but couldnt get healthy. He would have helped last season, but this group of wide receivers is significantly deeper. Like Morrissette, hell have to prove it in fall camp if the member of the class of 2021 wants to end his college football odyssey on a high note.Overall, this group is head and shoulders above last seasons receivers in both talent and depth. Theyve brought in size on the perimeter and some quick guys to work inside the hash marks. Hats off to new wide receiver coach Bilal Marshall, who helped put together a coherent collection of players with solid upside. The only thing missing is for one of these guys to step up and declare themselves the alpha receiver. If someone emerged from fall camp as the Man, it would make Ryan Brownes job significantly easier. I have a few suspects on who that might be, but Im going to need to see some evidence first.Moving ForwardIts impossible to say. Kinsey sounds like a potential star, which brings up possible retention issues moving forward, but well cross that bridge when we get there. Incoming freshman JoJo Johnson is another 64 outside receiver with upside who could be a long-term solution at the boundary. Ricky Sampson getting an additional year of eligibility is nice and could also pay long-term dividends, and TreMar Smith was one of the highest-ranked players in Barry Odoms inaugural 2025 recruiting class. Will any of them work out? Probably! (Just dont ask me who!)Overall, I think the two receivers with the highest upside are Hall and Kinsey, and theyre both freshmen. Hopefully that bodes well for the program in the future. Im honestly more worried about staunching the bleeding in the present at the moment.
