Demolition derbies are all about the destruction, but a crash in Ohio resulted in one driver being airlifted to the hospital as well as a lifetime ban for the other driver involved.The crash happened at the Fayette County Fairgrounds, roughly halfway between Cincinnati and Columbus, on Saturday, July 25. The Washington Court House Record Herald reports that driver Hunter Wolf of Lynchburg, Ohio, delivered a direct hit to the driver-side door of a competitor, causing serious injuries to that driver.Emergency crews extricated the victim from his vehicle and established a landing zone at the fairgrounds for a medical helicopter due to the severity of the driver's injuries. The Record Herald reports that the victim has not been identified and the extent of the injuries are not known.Ohio driver banned by demolition derby organizers after crash causes injuriesDerbydog Inc., which organized the demolition derby, issued a lifetime ban to Wolf on Monday, July 27, according to a statement posted to Facebook by owners Jeremy and Frances Hejduk."While we can't absolutely know the intentions of every driver, the obvious nature of the direct driver's door hit by Hunter Wolf proves he has absolutely no concern for safety for fellow drivers," the Hejduks said in the statement. "This type of behavior will not be tolerated by Derbydog."Other demolition derby organizers are joining in the ban.Head-On Derby Promotions, which operates in western New York and northeast Pennsylvania, stated in a July 27 Facebook post: "Although we highly doubt he would ever reach one of our shows, he has been spotted commenting on posts saying he will find one to run. ... W[e] will also jump on board with this as many other promoters are doing so in hopes he is banned nationwide."Likewise, the New Alexandria Lions Club, which organizes a demo derby in its eastern Ohio village near the West Virginia border, also announced a ban on Wolf via Facebook. "This decision has been made in the interest of maintaining a safe environment for our drivers, officials, crew members, volunteers, spectators, and all others involved with our events."Similar announcements came from Twisted Metal Motorsports, which has events scheduled in Kentucky and Indiana, and Smash It Demolition Derby, operating in Ohio and Indiana."Demolition derby is a contact sport, and hard hits are part of the competition. However, there is a clear difference between aggressive competition and actions that unnecessarily place another competitor at risk," Twisted Metal said in its statement. FIFA president Gianni Infantino reportedly plans to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors, including Joshua Kushner, according to the The Times. If the deal were to go through, Infantino would reportedly stand to gain tens of millions of dollars, per The Times.Kushner is the brother of U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. The Trump administration is reportedly aware of Infantino's plan, per the Times. Trump and Infantino are friendly, as both displayed in the lead-up and execution of the 2026 World Cup. Kushner would purchase a stake in the World Cup through Thrive Capital, a venture-capitalist firm.Should the deal be completed, a company would be formed to control FIFA's top men's and women's teams in "competitions, the World Cup and Club World Cup." Additionally, each of FIFA's 211 member associations and the private investors would receive a stake in the company. FIFA would still own the majority of the new company, according to The Times. Infantino would reportedly run the company as its commissioner after his term as FIFA president ends in 2031. His salary would likely be on par with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's, who makes about $64 million a year. When asked about that role and salary, FIFA said it had yet to be discussed, but that FIFA and its president should have a "leading role" in the company, if it's approved. In a statement to the Times, FIFA said it was also looking to "boost the development of football around the world.""Fifa is always on the lookout for innovative projects that can boost the development of football around the world and is always open to reviewing proposals submitted to it. We are starting a consultation process." FIFA is a not-for-profit organization set to make a revenue around $15 billion for the 2022-26 World Cup cycle, per the Times. That is highly valued by private investors, who would likely look to expand the tournament and hold it more often as a way to maximize profits.But not every organization is on board. In a statement, UEFA made it clear it was vehemently opposed to the idea."This crosses a line that football's governing institutions should never cross. Uefa takes it extremely seriously. So should every national football association. So should every stakeholder: leagues, clubs, players, supporters, governments and everyone who cares about the future of the game."The soul and governance of football are not assets to trade especially with zero transparency as to who gains financially. None of us are the owners of football. It is not FIFA's to sell." Its also unclear if the idea will garner support from any of the region's governing bodies.It's not the first time Infantino has attempted to bring private investors into the game. In 2018, Infantino tried to reach a $25 billion deal with Japanese bank SoftBank and Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund to reportedly create new international soccer events. That deal eventually fell through due to lack of support, per The Times. Infantino also reportedly discussed other possibilities including a FIFA streaming service with former U.S. treasury secretary Steven Mnuchin, though that also did not happen.

Throughout his collegiate career, he consistently flashed the instincts that defensive coordinators covet. He diagnoses plays quickly, closes on the football with confidence, and has shown he can capitalize on mistakes by forcing turnovers. Those splash plays helped establish him as one of the more intriguing safeties in his draft class.Big plays, however, only tell part of the story. Mukuba will be asked to lead the Eagles' safety room. Still, for all of his promise, two concerns have followed him from his NCAA days into the NFL. One is something he can improve. The other may never completely disappear.Andrew Mukuba's issues in coverage remain a big questionMukuba's instincts as a run defender have rarely been questioned. He's willing to attack downhill, support the run, and deliver physical tackles in space. Coverage has been a different story. Whether matching receivers in man coverage or maintaining discipline in deeper zone responsibilities, consistency has remained elusive.At times, Mukuba appears to anticipate routes rather than react to them, allowing receivers to create separation downfield. The result is a player capable of producing momentum-changing turnovers while also surrendering explosive plays.That's a difficult balance for any defense to live with. Fortunately for Philadelphia, coverage technique is one aspect of a player's game that coaching can improve. Improved route recognition, cleaner footwork, and greater familiarity with NFL concepts could help Mukuba become a more complete safety over time. The raw ability has never been in question. His other fatal flaw... Well... That presents a much greater challenge.What's to be made of Andrew Mukuba's durability issue?Mukuba's injury history dates back to his college career. Then came his season-ending fractured fibula and ankle that ended his rookie season. While injuries don't automatically predict future health, availability becomes part of a player's evaluation when significant injuries keep appearing on the resume.Unlike coverage technique, durability isn't something coaches can correct during practice. The Eagles can manage workloads, emphasize conditioning and hope for better fortune, but ultimately, Mukuba must prove he can remain on the field over the course of a full NFL season.Those questions recently resurfaced when Pro Football Focus included the Eagles star among 10 make-or-break players on NFL contenders, pointing to both his run defense and his struggles in coverage while emphasizing how much Philadelphia needs him to develop into a dependable starter."(The safety room) desperately needs Mukuba to dominate... No Eagles safety earned even a 60.5 grade (in 2025)... While Mukuba proliferated his strong run defense from his days at Texas, his coverage wasnt satisfactory: Mukubas 46.9 PFF coverage mark was the 11th-worst among qualified safeties. The rookie also allowed a 117.7 passer rating when targeted."Mukuba's ceiling remains easy to envision. Playmakers with his instincts don't come around often. Vea wants to enter the season with a new contract, and because the two sides haven't agreed on a deal, the Washington product wants to start fresh elsewhere. Last season with Tampa, Vea appeared in all 17 games and finished with 4.5 sacks, 13 quarterback hits and 34 total tackles. If the Chargers were to pull the trigger on Vea, it would immediately bolster their interior pass rush. Los Angeles doesn't desperately need Vea on their roster; however, his potential addition could do wonders for defensive coordinator Chris O'Leary's group.Last season, the Chargers struggled to collapse pockets from the inside, finishing last in the NFL with just 41 pressures from interior linemen. Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz has been careful about making splashy moves involving big contracts and premium draft picks, and a trade for Vea would likely require both.The Buccaneers drafted Vea in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft with the 12th overall pick. In his career thus far, he has been named a two-time Pro Bowler and helped lead Tampa Bay to a Super Bowl title in the 2020 season.
