SPORTS.YAHOO.COMBen Johnson evaluates Bears QB Caleb Williams in Year 3Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson had a lot to say during his training camp press conference, including an evaluation of quarterback Caleb Williams. We knew that Williams was the main reason that Johnson took the job last year, but now he is starting to reveal just what makes the situation so good.Part of his comments were an explanation of what makes Williams a special player. He was known to be a talented guy because he was the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Now, it's about how he can take that talent and turn it into becoming a winning player at the most important position in sports."I mean, he's got it all," Johnson said. "There's really nothing I don't think that he can't do. It's just the elite arm talent, playmaking ability, escapability; he has his legs that he can hurt a defense with. I mean, there's just so many layers to who he is as a player. I think that word consistency comes up over the course of a 60-minute game or more if we need it to, where we're playing high-level quarterback play throughout that game. You see flashes of it. And yet, we're trying to tap into that where we're just consistently delivering the ball where it needs to go, giving it to our guys around us. And then we all know that he has that ability to put on that Superman cape when the time calls for it."There are two messages being sent by Johnson. The first is complimentary: Williams is as talented as any quarterback and can win using his special gifts when necessary. We saw them overcome deficits late in games during the 2025 season quite often, and a lot of the time it was because of the magic that Williams can create. The other message is that Johnson would like to see Williams become a better quarterback over the course of a 60-minute football game. He doesn't want him to always have to put on that "Superman cape" late in games. He wants the high-level play to exist from the opening kick to the final whistle.Because of the tools that Williams has available to him, both with his talent and the personnel around him, Johnson knows that he can unlock that type of player in his quarterback. It seems, based on this, that Johnson has that next goal for Williams to reach to level up as a player in the NFL.Follow Bears Wire onTwitter,FacebookandInstagramThis article originally appeared on Bears Wire: Ben Johnson evaluates Bears QB Caleb Williams in Year 30 Comments 0 Shares 22 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMNeville backs Chelsea decision to target veteran Premier League duoNeville backs Chelsea decision to target veteran Premier League duoGary Neville has backed Chelseas decision to target experience this summer with moves for Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson.Chelsea have made surprise approaches for the veteran pair in a bid to add experience to their group. Welbeck is due to undergo a medical ahead of signing a two-year deal, in a transfer that will be the first time Chelsea have paid a fee for a player aged over 26 since 2022. The 35-year-old could be joined by Jordan Henderson, who has departed Brentford by mutual consent. Chelsea have earmarked the 36-year-old as a potential leader for their squad.Neville believes Chelsea are making the right move by targeting good, senior professionals, after a difficult campaign last term.If you watched Chelsea for the last three, four or five years youd say theres inexperience right throughout the football club, he said to Sky Sports.I think putting a spine in of good, senior professionals who act as guardians of good behaviour, responsibility and discipline in the dressing room is something thats not magic. Its something all top teams have had for many decades.Putting in Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck who know how to win Premier League titles, their jobs will be as much off the pitch as it will be on it. Theyre still good players who can contribute 25-35 games a season, but they will make sure the young players turn up every single day and give their all.I didnt think the young players at Chelsea have any real leadership or guidance on and off the pitch. Theyve now got people who can do that.Follow the Football Faithful on Social Media:Facebook|Instagram|Twitter|YouTube|TikTok0 Comments 0 Shares 24 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMTel shines as Tottenham beat Sydney on penaltiesTel shines as Tottenham beat Sydney on penaltiesTottenham Hotspur continued their unbeaten pre-season with a penalty shootout victory over Sydney FC after a 1-1 draw in Australia, where Mathys Tel produced the games standout moment with a spectacular first-half free-kick.The French forward opened the scoring in the 29th minute, curling a superb effort into the top-right corner from 25 yards to cap an impressive opening-half display. Sydney hit back after the interval through Takahiro Sekine, but Martin Dbravkas save in the shootout proved decisive before Dane Scarlett converted the winning penalty to seal a 4-2 victory.Tel stars as Tottenham beat Sydney on penaltiesTels display came amid continued links between Tottenham and Manchester City winger Savinho. Having completed his permanent 30 million move from Bayern Munich earlier this summer, the 20-year-old continued his encouraging start to life as a Spurs player with another eye-catching performance on the left flank.Roberto De Zerbi rotated his squad throughout the contest, handing Lucas Bergvall his first pre-season minutes after the midfielder returned to action amid uncertainty over his future. The Swede started in midfield before making way at half-time for club-record signing Sandro Tonali, who made his latest pre-season appearance.Andy Robertson also featured for the first time in Tottenham colours after coming on during the second half. The Scotland captain was handed the armband for his 25-minute cameo, created two chances, forced a save with a low effort and calmly converted his penalty in the shootout. The victory extended Tottenhams unbeaten start to pre-season as De Zerbi continued to assess his squad ahead of the new campaign. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMJosh Kerr ready for war with mile rivals defending home soil at Commonwealth GamesJosh Kerr isnt done chasing history.Just 11 days after brilliantly breaking Hicham El Guerroujs world mile record, which had stood for 27 years, he was back on the track to start his Commonwealth Games campaign at Scotstoun. The mile has returned to the athletics programme here for the first time in six decades, 72 years after both Roger Bannister and John Landy dipped below four minutes at the old Empire Games in a race dubbed the Miracle Mile.By contrast, all 13 qualifiers for Saturdays final have broken that fabled barrier. Kerr came through the slower of the two heats with ease, but Australias Cameron Myers underlined why hes viewed as the sports next big thing, his time just a little over a second slower than Kerrs new 3:42.66 world best. Its going to be a war out there," said Kerr. This is home ground. This is our track, where we grew up racing and where we learned the sport. Its our crowd as well. The rest of those guys want to take whats ours, and theyre going to have to come with something special on Saturday night because theyre not going to get it easy.My mindset hasnt really changed throughout my career, but it is different going from racing the clock to racing these guys because theyre some of the best milers in the world.Im just trying to battle against them and rely on what Im most proud of, which is my racing tactics. Its a little different, but not too different.Thats the thing with championships youve got to show up.Josh Kerr broke the mile world record earlier this month (PA Wire)Now hes at the Commonwealth Games on his home track (PA)Kerr will be joined in the final by Scottish team-mate and former 1500m world champion Jake Wightman, but Australias Ollie Hoare, who won gold in the 1500m four years ago, fell and did not progress.Kerr spends most of his year living 6,000 feet above sea level in New Mexico, even installing an altitude chamber inside his bedroom in Albuquerque.Since his record-breaking run in London, hes been back home in Scotland, admitting its taken time to get over the high of that moment as he attempts to refocus on this medal bid.The emotional comedown from London has been a lot, he admitted. I brought a world record from another era into the modern day, and maybe that makes it something people can relate to a bit more. It took a huge amount of work to get there, but Im glad I was able to lead that charge. To be the world record holder and to be rubbing shoulders with those guys from history, to be in the same conversation, is special. Hopefully I can bring a bit more energy back to the mile in the UK.Ive kept my phone off and spent time with my family, taking it day by day. I spent time doing the sort of things I did growing up. I showed my wife some of the places where I used to train and went out running with her. It was about resetting.I know how proud the younger version of myself would have been the kid training here 15 years ago. Ive got to show up for him.Kerr won his heat to lay down an early marker (PA)Scotstoun has been given a serious makeover for the Commonwealth Games but still feels an intimate setting for a major championship, as trains trundle behind the back straight and give a cheery toot of support.Youll be hard pushed to find a nicer guy in athletics than Wightman, who seems quite happy to let Kerr have the spotlight in front of the home crowd. However, he saw at close quarters that Myers, just 20, boasts that innate Australian ability to find another level when everyone is against you, his fearlessness marking his rapid rise.If anyones watched the season, theyll know all about Cam, said Wightman. He beat me two years ago in Australia and I thought, Hes going to be good. He just kept getting better every year. When Cam started pushing the pace, I thought we could either go with it or let it drag us away from the field. I felt like it was enough of a sharpener ahead of Saturday, but not so much that I overexerted myself. Weve got two days to recover, which is perfect.Im probably biased, but if you look at it on paper, its going to be the race of the Games. Thats great for the spectators, although its pretty annoying if youre in it because its as hard as its ever been. But thats what you want you want to beat the best, and nobody is missing from this field. Every athlete who could be here is here.Jake Wightman joined Kerr in reaching the mile final (Getty)Thanks to National Lottery players, more than 33m is raised every week for good causes. Its because of you that sport, arts, heritage and community projects, as well as our athletes competing at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, are supported across the UK.Sportsbeat0 Comments 0 Shares 29 Views 0 Reviews
