Jahmyr Gibbs absent from Lions training camp practice amid contract talks
Detroit Lions star running back Jahmyr Gibbs might be in the midst of a hold-in as he seeks a new contract.According to ESPNs Eric Woodyard, Gibbs, who did report to training camp, did not take part in the teams first practice on Wednesday.Gibbs absence, which is not believed to be injury-related, according to Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit, comes amid he and the Lions trying to hammer out a contract extension.(Gibbs) was not listed on the teams Physically Unable to Perform or Non-Football-Injury list to start camp, suggesting his absence is not injury related, Reisman wrote.MORE: Dan Campbell just sent Jahmyr Gibbs fantasy football value soaringWhile Gibbs looks to be holding in, it may not last long. ESPNs Adam Schefter reported this week that the two sides are close to getting something done.I think the Gibbs thing could be relatively quick, whatever that is, Schefter said on the Brad Galli Show.Jahmyr Gibbs should reset the marketDetroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs (0), Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (14) and Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams (1) celebrate after a touchdown during the second quarter against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesA former first-round pick of the Lions in 2023, Gibbs has become a star over his first three years in the NFL and there is no doubt he is one of the very best players at his position.Gibbs, who is still just 24 years old, is coming off a season in which he notched his third consecutive Pro Bowl nod with 1,223 rushing yards, 616 receiving yards and 18 total touchdowns. In the year prior, Gibbs posted a career-best 1,412 rushing yards and fell just shy of 2,000 yards from scrimmage with 517 receiving yards. His 16 rushing touchdowns led the NFL.MORE: Ryan Clark-ESPN lawsuit brewing? Sports media analyst chimes inWhen its all said and done, Gibbs should reset the market at running back, at least when it comes to total value and annual average.Miami Dolphins rusher DeVon Achane holds the high-water mark for total value ($64 million), and Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is tops in annual average ($20.6 million), according to Over The Cap.The record for guaranteed money belongs to Arizona Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love at $53 million, although that is a result of how rookie contracts work.Barkley is next in guaranteed money at $36 million and chances are Gibbs will be closer to that mark, although we would not rule out him at least approaching Loves total.MORE: Jonathan Greenard starts Eagles training camp on PUP listWe could very well see Gibbs get a four-year deal that exceeds $83 million in total value. That would put him atop the list of running backs when it comes to annual average and total value, and theres enough room for him to surpass Loves guaranteed money mark, also.

Wednesday Cheese Curds: Ahman Green reveals Parkinsons diagnosis
MILWAUKEE, WI - NOVEMBER 12: Ahman Green meets with fans during a pop-in shop to introduce the On the Fifty apparel collection at Nordstrom at Mayfair Mall on November 12, 2015 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. (Photo by Daniel Boczarski/Getty Images for Nordstrom)Ahman Green has Parkinsons disease. The Green Bay Packers legend announced his diagnosis in an interview with Tyler Dunne of the Go Long podcast and Substack this morning.Green, just 49 years old, is the Packers all-time leading rusher, and he now faces what could be the biggest challenge of his life. Parkinsons is a degenerative nerve condition with no cure, but with treatment his quality of life could remain high for a long time.Green is unfortunately just the latest Packers great to face a Parkinsons diagnosis. Brett Favre announced he had the disease in 2024, saying hes battled joint stiffness and muscle weakness, as well as difficulty swallowing, all significant symptoms of the disease.I dont think its editorializing to say this is terrible news. Green is a legend for a reason, and his 2003 season stands as one of the very best in Packers history. He has a real claim as the best ballcarrier the Packers have ever seen, and well probably never see a Packers player carry the volume of touches he did again. Between rushing attempts and receptions, Green compiled a whopping 405 regular season touches in 2003. To say nothing of the amazing things he did with those opportunities, thats a rare accomplishment in and of itself only 45 players in league history have crossed the 400-touch mark in a season, and Green is the only Packers player to do it.Take a moment to appreciate some of his great moments today, and spare a thought for a guy facing a new and frightening challenge.Ahman Green has a new battle to fight | Go LongA sad announcement from one of the Packers 21st century legends.Packers know they must figure out how to finish to be better in 2026 | Packers News ($)The good thing about the 2026 Packers is they know exactly what they need to do better than last season.Prediction: Day 1 of Packers Training Camp Could Be Start of Dismal Season | Sports IllustratedThere are always ways a season can go off the rails. Phillies on the Pharm: 7/29/2026
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - JULY 18: The Boston Red Sox grounds crew pulls out the rain tarp prior to a game between the Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park on July 18, 2026 in Boston, Massachusetts. (Photo by Joe Buglewicz/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesNot much to report on, as inclement weather wiped out games for Lehigh Valley, Reading, and Jersey Shore on Tuesday night. But the two teams that avoided the East coast rain were victorious.Clearwater 15, Jupiter 4The Threshers scored 13 runs across the fifth and sixth innings to record an easy win over the Hammerheads. Victor Cardoza was the biggest contributor with three hits including his first home run of the season. First baseman Nolan Beltran also had three hits and scored three runs, while third baseman Robert Phelps had two hits and three RBI out of the leadoff spot. With that run support, the Threshers pitching staff didnt have to be great. Starter Sean Youngerman allowed two runs in four innings, and Giussepe Velasquez earned the win by giving up one run in two innings.DSL Phillies 6, DSL Rockies 4The Phillies went up 3-0 thanks in part to a Nelson Prieto home run in the fourth. The Rockies began to come back, but RBI singles by Juan Parra and Francisco Renteria established a four-run lead that would withstand some shaky relief pitching by David Victorino in the eighth. (Runs scored on a bases loaded walk and a wild pitch).Samuel Ortiz gave up one run in five innings to earn the win, and Jose Romero pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his second save of the season.

Jamal Musiala wont travel to Asia for tour with Bayern Munich
According to a report from Abendzeitung journalist Mano Bonke (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Jamal Musiala will stay home from the preseason tour in Asia and will resume team training when the group returns: Jamal Musiala will not be on the plane to Asia with the team on August 1st. Instead, he will stay in Munich and train individually at Sbener Strae. As soon as the team returns from the tour, Musiala is expected to resume team training. If everything goes according to plan, the player will be ready to feature in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Dortmund (August 22). Theres a big hope that, after having a metal plate removed from his left foot, Musiala will finally be able to play with more freedom again.Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl addressed Musialas status at a press conference on Wednesday as well.Hopefully the final step is out of the way for Jamal with the removal of the metal plate. Hes lost a bit of his ease, although his statistics werent bad. Those magic moments are still missing a bit but were very confident theyll come back. Well take care of him and build him back up. We need to get him back to his best, Eberl noted (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). BFW AnalysisThis is a very smart move and one that could greatly benefit Musiala. The news can be taken two ways:1 Positive: This is a chance for Musiala to get a little extra rest and recovery time ahead what will be a grueling season. 2 Negative: Musiala still is not ready and this current form just might be what he is now. Certainly, Bayern Munich will do what is necessary to give Musiala the best chance to succeed something you could argue did not happen last season. While it is unclear who was the primary driver in pushing for the return of the teams highest paid player last season, his comeback was clearly too soon as he never got on track and looked physically limited. It is months later and there are now major doubts about Musiala, not just for the present, but for the future. The Germany international does need more time, but it is completely fair to ask if he would not have been better off by taking a slower pathway back to action after such a devastating injury. The kicker in the situation is that he was not needed for Bayern Munich last season at least not when he initially returned. A slower timetable really could have benefitted the player. After a rough showing at the World Cup, Musiala is dealing with major criticism for the first time in his young career. Ultimately, the hope is that he can rise through this adversity and get back to showing the ability and promise which made so many people rate him as one of the best young players on the planet. In truth, judging Musiala fully is something that should not be done until January or February. That might not be what fans want to hear, but a major injury always carries the season after the season rule meaning that a player will not be fully back until the season after he first returns. That should give Bayern Munich fans some hope, but it does require patience. Players Cowboys need to take a cautious approach with in training camp
Jun 16, 2026; Dallas, TX, USA; Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown (0) goes through a drill during practice at the Ford Center at the Star Training Facility in Frisco, Texas. Mandatory Credit: Chris Jones-Imagn Images | Chris Jones-Imagn ImagesWith training camp taking off this week for the Dallas Cowboys, things are about to become much more physical at practice now that the pads are about to start popping. There are rules in place teams have to abide by to hopefully prevent injuries from happening, but we all know nothing is guaranteed. Everyone is good to go right now according to Jane Slater, but to stay that way Dallas may want to monitor certain players closely. In #Cowboys news this morning, a team source tells me EVERY player is a go for practice. Physicals took place this morning.Every player is also here and accounted for. Jane Slater (@SlaterNFL) July 28, 2026LB DeMarvion OvershownEntering the final year of his rookie contract, Overshown is the projected starter at the MIKE LB position right now. While hes shown glimpses of his game-changing ability to become one of the better off-ball LBs in the entire league, hes also shown an inability to stay healthy in his first three seasons with the Cowboys after sustaining two separate season-ending knee injuries. In order for him to stay healthy this season, monitoring him closely might be a wise thing to do.CB DaRon BlandAfter foot surgery to the same foot in back-to-back offseasons, the Cowboys should definitely be cautious with the way they utilize Bland in training camp. Hes the most seasoned and proven corner they currently have on the roster and is expected to be a key contributor on the back end of Dallas secondary this year. That, of course, all depends on how he rebounds from yet another foot surgery and whether or not he can remain healthy for the entire season.OLB Donovan EzeiruakuEzeiruaku is coming off a solid rookie season where he showed glimpses of his pass-rushing ability, but sustained a torn labrum injury that required offseason surgery. He is still currently working his way back, but is expected to be a full participant in training camp after missing all of the voluntary and mandatory OTA practices. Hes someone Dallas should be cautious with to ensure hes all the way back from his injury considering hes a projected starter this year.CB Shavon Revel Revel was considered a first-round talent, but was drafted in the third round by the Cowboys last year after he sustained a season-ending knee injury in his final collegiate season. He never quite looked completely healthy in his rookie year, playing with the knee brace, but moved around much more smoothly in OTAs not long ago. Dallas may want to monitor him closely to prevent any setbacks, especially considering he could be a potential starter this year.
