Kasper Hghs Celtic transfer delivers 57,000 windfall to boyhood clubKasper Hoghs 11 million transfer to Celtic has delivered a major financial boost to the Danish club where his football journey began.Kasper Hogh, Celtic FC. Photo Celtic FCThe Denmark international completed his move to the Scottish champions from Bodo/Glimt, becoming one of Celtics most expensive ever signings.Under footballs solidarity payment system, several of the strikers former clubs are entitled to a share of the fee in recognition of their role in his development. That includes Danish fifth-tier outfit Vorup FB, where Hogh spent nine years as a youngster before continuing his career with hometown side Randers.Vorup are now set to collect around 57,000 from the transfer, with the club planning to reinvest the money into its youth and grassroots setup.Manager Thomas Pedersen said via The Herald: The money we will receive as a solidarity payment from Kaspers transfer means a great deal to this club.It has been decided that the money will go to developing the players through activities or equipment, so it really means a lot to us.It wont be used to buy players or anything just to strengthen grassroots football. Our focus is that if our players are happy on and off the pitch, it suits them. That was certainly the case for Kasper Hogh when he was at this club.HAVE YOUR SAY Join the Celtic conversation in our comments section belowMatthew Marrs debut book Celtic And the Bould Bhoys, Glory to Their Name. Giants' Luis Arraez trade update is great news for a potential huge return
Giants' Luis Arraez trade update is great news for a potential huge return originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The San Francisco Giants are trade deadline sellers, and while Rafael Devers, Matt Chapman, and others might not be likely to be dealt, there are two players who seem to be near-locks to be traded.Robbie Ray is one, but the one player who is more likely to be traded than any other on this roster is Luis Arraez, the All-Star second baseman. After signing for $12 million on a one-year deal, Arraez is very likely to be traded this summer.Fortunately for the Giants, according to Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic, the odds for landing a huge return for Arraez look strong, as there is significant interest in the All-Star this summer from almost every contender.Luis Arraez trade update gives Giants hope for huge return"Now, after both an offensive resurgence and defensive revival at second base, virtually every contender is showing interest in trading for Arraez, according to a person briefed on the Giants' discussions," Sammon and Rosenthal report. This trade update on Arraez is very noteworthy for the Giants, as the more teams that are involved in the sweepstakes, the better chance there is for a bidding war to begin.Such heated interest in Arraez makes perfect sense, as there's probably not a better rental hitter and defender available for trade this season than Arraez. He's not too expensive, and the Giants are all but guaranteed to trade him. Plus, he'd be a big upgrade for many teams at second base. This season, he has a .325 batting average, just a few points below the MLB league-leader in Otto Lopez, who is hitting .328 this season.MORE:Giants willing to trade Heliot Ramos in big news for many MLB clubsArraez also has 3.2 bWAR, 51 runs scored, 131 hits, 23 doubles, seven triples, four home runs, and 41 RBIs with a ridiculous 25-walk to 20-strikeout ratio. His .808 OPS is one of the best marks of his career, and his 129 OPS+ is the highest it's been in his eight-year MLB career. If a contending team has an opening at second base or the ability to move their second baseman elsewhere to round out the roster, then Arraez would make perfect sense as a trade target.Sammon and Rosenthal are reporting the Giants are receiving significant interest in Arraez, as the $12 million former batting title champion has a real chance to land the Giants a strong return for a rental infielder by the August 3 MLB trade deadline.More MLB news:Yankees are leading candidate to trade for Twins Ryan JeffersRed Sox would love to trade for Angels Zach Neto or Astros Jeremy PenaPadres likely not to trade Mason Miller amid latest updateTigers expected to trade Tarik Skubal but still try to contend without himMets desperate to trade Luis Robert Jr. after trade failure

Uefa to discuss boycotting World Cup in emergency meeting after Fifa bombshell
Uefa will hold an emergency meeting on Friday, where the prospect of boycotting the World Cup will be discussed as leverage against Gianni Infantinos controversial plan to privatise the tournament.Next steps with the European Union will also be raised, as the European Commission scrutinises whether Infantinos project contravenes protections that are afforded as regards competition law.Fifas plan has provoked fury in most of the European game, to the point that an alliance of all major stakeholders is gaining strength.Bodies including the Football Association, European Leagues, European Football Clubs, the Union of European Clubs, the Football Supporters Association and Football Supporters Europe have already released strident statements, mostly condemning the lack of proper process, but with some going much further and demanding drastic change at the top of the game.Figures within the national associations and Uefas structure are most infuriated by the unilateral nature in which Infantino has come up with the plan as well as the very prospect of privatisation, and how it has been presented to federations with a limited timeframe of 53 days before what amounts to a binary vote amid the bribery of those who agree being guaranteed higher returns.Donald Trump, President of the United States, and Fifa President Gianni Infantino with the World Cup trophy (Bradley Collyer/PA)A key question being asked is how any of this was decided without presentation to any other part of football governance, right up to how JP Morgan has already been decided upon as a likely partner. The anger is such that national associations are prepared to discuss the threat of boycott, or at least to use the idea as leverage to kill Infantinos plans. While Fifa statute 14.1b obliges members to play in their competitions, association sources are pointing to how this tactic was used at the outbreak of the Ukraine war in 2022. Infantinos leadership had initially wanted to get a Russian team into the World Cup in some form, only for European associations to insist they would boycott if that was the case. The meeting is set to take place at 2pm UK time.Uefa have also been in consultation with the European Commission to survey how Infantinos plan can be challenged. European Commissioner for Sport Glenn Micallef has already intimated as much in a scathing statement, and it is understood the main avenue of potential resistance will be through the competition law protections that are granted to sports federations. While bodies like Fifa and Uefa are usually given certain exemptions through the idea that sport fulfils a cultural good, a shift towards private interests would drastically change this.Any removal of protections could significantly alter Fifas ability to operate in Europe, especially as regards its commercial activities.

Cycling couple return to track to inspire children
Lewis and Ciara Oliva want to inspire their children on the track [BBC Sport]How do you juggle three young children, two sports careers and one Commonwealth Games dream? For husband and wife team Lewis and Ciara Oliva, the challenge is not an easy one, but the Welsh track cyclists are supporting and spurring each other on.The pair waved goodbye to the sport with a "fairytale moment" at the Gold Coast Games in 2018, but eight years on they are back for more in the velodrome.Lewis heads to his fourth Games, having made his debut at Delhi 2010, while Ciara is competing at her third Games, returning to where it all began in Glasgow in 2014.With newfound motivation in the form of their children, Florence, Digby and Ottilie, the Welsh pair are daring to dream again. It was the example set by a double Olympic gold medal-winning rower that got Ciara back on the bike first."We were just over the moon with our careers, it felt like we'd achieved everything we wanted to [by 2018]," said Ciara."Then I watched Helen Glover's documentary and was so inspired by her that I just thought, 'Do you know what? Is this possible? Could I have a crack at it?' "Lewis joined me at the beginning of the year as well."Ciara says that trying to emulate Glover's example has been a delicate balancing act."It is a big juggle," she told BBC Sport Wales. "But that's made the journey all the more worthwhile because it has been such a journey. "To be going to a Commonwealth Games with our three little ones watching us is pretty magical."She admits it was scary to tell the world about her ambitions to return to the sport."I was very emotional; this has been such a big target for me," Ciara said."I was quite scared when I first announced I was going to do this comeback because you do fear the usual, 'What if it doesn't happen? What if I'm not able to achieve what I want to?' "Lewis was very good and supportive, saying, 'What if it does happen?' "That's kind of been my philosophy throughout, just to give it absolutely everything."Wales at the Commonwealth GamesThe first Welsh men's sprint teamLewis admits the pull of being a part of the first men's sprint team Wales have entered at a Commonwealth Games was a dangling carrot that he could not resist.Three out of four riders from Oliva, Ioan Hepburn, Rory Gravelle and Jonah Jenkins will compete in the team sprint event."The fact we've got a male sprint team speaks volumes," said Lewis."I would love to be able to go top four in that first round and then be able to compete for a medal; we've got the potential to do that."We are going to have to hope some of our stars align."It's a case of doing it on the day and that's what I love about this sport - anything can happen on the day."The Olympian helping NHS staff keep fitHorne's Rio dream inspired by scrapbookBritish Cycling elite sport, not day care'The biggest motivating factor'The Oliva children have been very much part of their parents' training sessions at the velodrome in Newport [Ciara Oliva]So how aware are the Oliva children of the task their parents are undertaking?"I think they get the gravity of the situation that Mummy and Daddy are doing an important bike race," said Lewis."The eldest two are telling their friends at school and nursery all about it. "Florence and Digby are drawing lots of pictures of Mummy and Daddy in the velodrome with those guys sitting in the stands watching."They might not understand the subtleties yet or where we've come from, but they see enough of us every single day on the watt bike or the turbo at home."Lewis is quick to stress that training at home sometimes is less novelty and more necessity."We've had to have babysitters come round in the day, just so we could train in the front room and not be disturbed," he explained."That's not completely normal, and I think they understand that as well that things feel slightly different."The biggest motivating factor for both of us is to have those three in the stands watching."Success for me has already happened, having those three kids, those familiar faces in the stands watching us."Ciara says even their youngest child is already obsessed with cycling."Ottilie already is 'Bike, bike, bike.' She's just grown up being Mummy and Daddy on bikes. "She loves it as well, so we're really lucky and they love being on their bikes as well, which is nice, very special."Ciara added: "Success for me is enjoying this experience and taking it in."This is everything that we've worked so hard for."To enjoy looking into the stands, to see our three babies looking down at us with their grandparents cheering us on, embracing and taking that in."

Hall of Fame Game 2026: Schedule, time and how to watch as Cardinals and Panthers kick off NFL preseason
Theres no surer sign of footballs return than the actual playing of games. The Pro Football Hall of Fame Game routinely kicks off the NFL preseason, and provides fans with their first look at pro-football action since the Super Bowl. This year is no different, as the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers officially welcome fans into the 2026 season by taking part in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game. With the 2026 NFL regular season just around the corner, heres everything you need to know about the first preseason game of the year, including when its taking place and how to watch it. When is the 2026 Hall of Fame Game? The 2026 Hall of Fame Game will take place Thursday, Aug. 6 at the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The game always takes place on Hall of Fame weekend, when the next class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame officially gets inducted. What time is the 2026 Hall of Fame Game? The game will begin at 8 p.m. ET. Who is playing in the 2026 Hall of Fame Game? The Cardinals and Panthers are the two teams taking part in the contest. As for which specific players are going to see action, thats complicated. Teams that play in the Hall of Fame Game usually play an extra preseason game. Because of that, teams often elect to sit their prominent players and starters during the Hall of Fame Game.Last year, as an example, Trey Lance and Kyle Allen started the contest for the Los Angeles Chargers and Detroit Lions, respectively. While mostly backups played in the contest, the Chargers did let promising rookie Omarion Hampton get two carries. The Panthers are coming off a division title in 2025, and might choose to play things more cautiously in 2026. The Cardinals, on the other hand, are coming off a 3-14 season and may be willing to let some of their youngsters take the field in the contest. GLENDALE, ARIZONA - AUGUST 25: Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald #11 of the Arizona Cardinals runs with the football after a reception during a NFL team training camp at State Farm Stadium on August 25, 2020 in Glendale, Arizona. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)Christian Petersen via Getty ImagesWho is getting inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2026?Five players will be honored before and after the 2026 Hall of Fame Game. They include quarterback Drew Brees, running back Roger Craig, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, linebacker Luke Kuechly and kicker Adam Vinatieri. Fitzgerald and Kuechly have ties to the Cardinals and Panthers, respectively, which is likely a big reason why those two teams were chosen to play in the 2026 Hall of Fame Game. How to watch the 2026 Hall of Fame GameThe 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game will air on NBC and Peacock. Mike Tirico will provide play-by-play, with Cris Collinsworth doing color commentary.

Rodriguez LHPJared Jones RHPThe earliest game time the rest of the way, so youll understand if this is relatively brief. This is going to be an exercise in bullpen management for Torey Lovullo, as the above chart likely suggests. Six relievers were used last night, so this may be one of those days where we have to ride with Eduardo Rodriguez for a hundred pitches, regardless of the results. Hopefully hell go seven innings, and the offense doesnt have another 24 outs with runners in scoring position day, so we can hand the ball over to Taylor Clarke and Jonathan Loaisiga for a couple of low-stress innings. Or better yet, Ildemaro Vargas with another double-digit lead.Just to follow up on something I mentioned in the GDT. Gerardo Carrillos heroics, stranding the Manfred Man in consecutive innings, is now confirmed as the highest Win Probability by a reliever in franchise history, at +76.9%. The only better performances are all by Arizona starting pitchers who threw complete-game shutouts in 1-0 victories, most recently Zac Gallen against the Cubs in September 2023. Its also #6 all-time by any reliever in the National League. Not bad for a pitcher with [checks notes] precisely two major-league games under his belt before taking the mound last night.

PSG will convince Arsenal target to stay when he returns to club
PSG will convince Arsenal target to stay when he returns to clubPSG remains keen to keep Bradley Barcola this summer despite the players reported interest in leaving the club, and the French champions are expected to discourage the Arsenal target from seeking a move when he returns to training.Barcola is believed to be looking for a new challenge after winning back-to-back Champions League titles with PSG, even though he has found it more difficult to secure a regular place in the starting line-up. His situation has attracted interest from several clubs ahead of the new season.Arsenal face a major obstacleThe winger showed at the World Cup that he can perform at the highest level when he is given regular playing time, and Arsenal is eager to sign him during this transfer window. The Gunners believe he would strengthen their attacking options and add further quality to the squad. However, PSG is unwilling to let Barcola leave without a fight and is determined to persuade him to remain at the club for at least another season. That stance could make it difficult for Arsenal to complete a deal despite its strong interest.Liverpool is also in the race for the winger, increasing the competition for his signature. Even so, PSGs determination to keep the player may prove to be the biggest obstacle for any club hoping to secure his services this summer.PSG set asking priceThe Sun says PSG will try to convince Barcola to stay when he returns to training. If the winger continues to insist that he wants to leave, the French club will demand 145 million for his signature.Such a fee would make Barcola Arsenals most expensive signing if the transfer were completed. It would also represent a significant financial commitment for the Gunners as it continues to strengthen the squad. The reported valuation could ultimately force Arsenal to reconsider its interest, particularly if PSG refuses to lower its demands. The Gunners will now have to decide whether pursuing Barcola remains a realistic option or whether they should turn their attention to alternative targets before the transfer window closes._____________________________________________________________________________________________ADMIN COMMENTSo here are some simple rules which I must insist commenters follow. You agree not to give any personal abuse to other Arsenal fans.
