(AP) The memory of losing her husband is so hauntingly clear 25 years later that Kelci Stringer could still draw a detailed picture of her hurried path to the hospital room where Korey Stringer died from exertional heat stroke.Having arrived in the middle of the night, she realized she was too late once she saw Vikings teammates Cris Carter and Randy Moss sobbing on the floor. For all that went tragically wrong at the beginning of that training camp in 2001 in Mankato, Minnesota, Kelci Stringer has since made a life mission of keeping others from such a preventable death.The work were doing and the way were doing the work is most important to me because were giving back in a way thats very exemplary of Korey, Stringer said.Named after the only NFL player known to have died from heat stroke, the Korey Stringer Institute opened in 2010 with three employees at the University of Connecticut and now has a 100-person staff and a satellite branch in Florida. Rodgers eventually stepped in and told them to settle down.A couple of fans were heckling some Steelers today. Being loud and obnoxious, Kaboly wrote via X. Aaron Rodgers turned around and told them to settle down and be quiet. I never saw that before, but good for ARod. Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) star, CJI promoter and now journalist?Craig Jonesis one of the biggest figures in the grappling world. And now he is using his platform to shine a light on one of the biggest controversies in the sport.Long known as the biggest BJJ coach in Brazil, Melqui Galvao built an empire off his BJJ College that had a massive pool of juvenile grapplers. After the success of young ADCC champs like Diogo Reis and his son, Mica Galvao, Melqui boasted about helping hundreds of poor children in Brazil get opportunities to become jiu-jitsu champions. Except that feel good, rags to riches story he cultivated had a far darker twist, according to authorities. After multiple young students of his came forward, Galvao was arrested last April for various charges such as sexual misconduct, and statutory rape against children under 14 years old, among others.Not many outlets outside of Brazil covered the recent developments, so Craig Jones instead used his platform to paint a more complete picture for a wider audience. In a video released to his YouTube channel, one where CJI was streamed to millions of viewers, Jones provided more updates on the on-going case, and also gave a background on Galvaos alleged ties to previous killings as a police officer.Melqui Galvao allegedly threatening victims from jail; brother Enoque Galvao also arrested for rapeIn the video, which is corroborated by news outlets from Brazil, Jones notes how Galvao used his police connections to obtain cellphones while detained in both Manaus and Sao Paulo. In multiple occasions, Galvao allegedly used the phones to try and threaten and coerce victims into changing their story. Audio recordings have also reportedly gone public, with a voice attributed to Galvao stating we need something intimate to show the judge shes not an innocent gal.Local reports note that after police officers were tipped off about Galvao making threats, four cellphones were found in the cells in Sao Paulo. One of the devices was hidden in Galvaos underwear.May 26, 2026, a court orders his continued detention. Reason: Interference with witnesses, Jones noted. That same day, his brother, Enoque Galvao is arrested in Manaus.Like his brother, Enoque is also a civil police officer and also part of the same BJJ College. He is now also facing similar charges including sexual assault of minors, after new accusers have come forward. Enoque is also facing separate charges for allegedly smuggling a cellphone and connecting Melqui to his accusers.(Enoque Galvao) is charged with the same crimes against two girls from the exact same project, Jones stated. Nine women have filed police reports. The youngest to make a public statement was only 12 years old when the abuse began.The Sunday before (Melqui) was arrested, he was still liking (the victims) photos on Instagram. And shes one on nine.Jones: Melqui Galvao has ties to past shootings, including death of ex-wifeCraig Jones video also goes in depth on two previous shootings, with two deaths connected to BJJ coach Melqui Galvao during his time as a police officer.In 2011, a graphic video made national news in Brazil, with Galvao and other police officers involved in shooting and killing an unarmed man, Fernando Pontes. The controversy sparked protests in the country, with many asking for justice, but the officers avoided serious punishment.One of the officers charged with shooting him (Galvao) was even given a certificate of honor by that very same police force, Jones said. Melqui Galvao later admitted that he was the officer to fire first.The video also showed photos of handwritten note, reportedly from Melqui Galvaos first wife, Sarah Lima DSouza in 2006. She was said to have detailed many threats from his husband, and predicted that one day he would put a bullet in my head and wouldnt even look back. According to Jones, the woman was shot dead in front of her house a year later, but no one was ever charged. The man in charge of this murder investigation was Mario Nunez, Jones stated, citing one of Galvaos police connections. The same Mario whose son co-commanded the operation that resulted in the death of Fernando Pontes.Galvao looking to be placed on house arrestGiven Melqui Galvaos history and police ties, multiple accusers are naturally worried by the threats made in connection to his recent arrest. Despite cellphones already being seized in two separate states and jail cells, Melqui Galvao is now reportedly seeking to get more benefits and to be placed on house arrest.According to local reports in Brazil, Galvaos lawyers are arguing that he needs to be on house arrest in order to have physical therapy for a recent shoulder surgery.At the news of this, Jones explained, a victim asked if he gets house arrest, where do we go?Melqui Galvao is unrelated to BJJ legendAndre Galvao, another high profile coachrecently accused of sexual misconduct towards his teenage students.

We would hear the defense has an edge early or that its early, and it would take a week or so before the offense would win a practice. Thats not the case this year. They looked good in their first acclimation practice on Wednesday, according to reports, and today showed off how explosive this offense can be. It all started early on with quarterback Bo Nix. He looked sharp, according to reports, and did not look like a quarterback who missed the vast majority of the offseason practices. He started the day with multiple chunk plays in 7-on-7s and continued that into the team period. When team drills started, his first completion was to Jaylen Waddle on a slant route. During team drills, backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham made the early play of camp when he hit veteran tight end Evan Engram for a 50+ yard touchdown (More on Engram later). Third-string quarterback Sam Ehlinger shined some today as well when he hit Hakeem Butler for a touchdown. Then came the Marvin Mims portion of practice. First, he caught a 35-yard gain from Jarrett Stidham, and then he had the biggest play of the day and camp thus far. He hauled in a 50+ yard bomb from Bo Nix with Riley Moss in coverage for a touchdown. He also had two catches in the final move-the-ball period. Head Coach Sean Payton was asked if they hope to open up the passing game with more explosive pass plays. He said they are always trying to stretch the field and added that Bo Nix is really good at getting the ball deep, and players like Marvin Mims Jr. have been a consistent down the field deep threat for them.I think were always trying to stretch the field. I think that its something that [QB] Bo [Nix] has been really good at with his arm strength. [WR] Marvin [Mims Jr.] has been very consistent. If you just looked about when weve called on him for those opportunities, hes come down with a lot of plays. To answer your question, I think theres always that mindset within the framework of a game. What are our explosives? Then when we watch the tape, some of those are coming off of scrambles, some of them realistically are going to be getting up Some might be the defense laying off a sack, so you just have to look at the tape, but it was good to see the ball get down the field.The defense did have its moments, including winning the final team drill, but the offense was the overall winner of the day. They made a lot of big explosive plays and looked sharp and in control early on in camp, which is new. Overall, Bo Nix, Jaylen Waddle, Marvin Mims, and Evan Engram were the standout players on the offensive side of the ball. Good news overall, and hopefully it is a thing that continues throughout the remainder of training camp. Engram has a big Day 1 One of the biggest question marks surrounding the team is their tight end production. Evan Engram was a big addition last season and was a standout player during camp/preseason, but didnt live up to expectations during the season. However, on Day 1 of Broncos Camp, Engram was once again a standout player.Today, Engram was arguably the Broncos best pass catcher and could be on the verge of flourishing under offensive coordinator Davis Webb. Keep in mind, Engram and Webb have a close personal relationship and were former teammates with the Giants, so Webb may unlock Engrams potential in this offense.Evan Engram is having a DAY:Been targeted multiple times with multiple catches during team, including the 50-yard bomb from Jarrett Stidham.The Davis Webb play caller seems to be benefitting him a ton. So, it was a solid first day of Broncos Camp for the veteran Evan Engram, and hopefully, something that continues throughout the summer.After practice, head coach Sean Payton was asked about Engram, and he told reporters that he believes he can definitely be a big asset for us and that one of his strengths is that he can run. I think he can definitely be a big asset for us. I think one of his strengths is he can run, and I think its good that hes getting these reps along with the younger guys.Engram showed off that strength today with that 50+ yard completion, and hopefully we see more of that running ability this upcoming season. Payton was also asked about the Davis Webb factor when it comes to Engram and if he has any new ideas on how to use the veteran tight end. He told reporters yes to some degree but added its about executing and that the ball is going to be spread around and those touches need to be earned. I would say yes to some degree. I think hes trying to find different ways where he might have a matchup, and I think thats a good thing. Now its just executing, and its ball security, catching, the landmarks, some of the nuances. Hes one other piece where youre trying to spread the ball around. Whos going to earn those touches? Those have to be earned.The Broncos do have a lot of mouths to feed on the offensive side of the ball. They have three backs who can all contribute on the ground and as pass catchers, five wide receivers including Jaylen Waddle who will likely get a heavy workload, and multiple tight ends including Engram and rookie Justin Joly. So, like all the other players, Engram will need to earn these targets, and hopefully, he can continue to do that as we progress throughout the summer and into the regular season.JK Dobbins promises that he wont get hurt this seasonOne of the big question marks surrounding this team heading into the season is the health of veteran running back JK Dobbins. He has dealt with injuries throughout his career, including multiple significant lower body injuries and unfortunately suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury last season while with the Broncos. Now, in his second season with the team, Dobbins is vowing to stay healthy. J.K. Dobbins is coming off a serious Lisfranc injury that ended his season and has some serious injuries in his past as well, which include an ACL and Achilles injury. He was asked today if he is proud the way he has come back from these serious injuries. Yes, first its the Lord, Jesus Christ. He blessed me with some type of stuff inside of me that I cant stop. I just cant stop. I cant lose. Its just I dont want to let myself down either. Ive had the three big injuries, the knee first, which took like a couple of surgeries to clean up and get back to myself, I had the Achilles and then I had the foot last year. I never really care about it because Im going to come back, and Im going to be better. Im going to keep doing it. Whatever life throws at you, you cant give up, right? Thats the stuff thats already locked in, thats muscle memory. Now youre learning the nuances and all the stuff that really will define what we are this season on the critical plays during season.
