Baresi underwent a minimally invasive procedure to remove it. The club said the operation had been successful and his recovery had initially been free of complications.An oncology specialist subsequently recommended a consolidative course of immunotherapy. Baresi thanked supporters and said he needed time to regain his strength. Neither Milan nor Baresis family identified that condition as his official cause of death in the July 31 announcement.

HOUSTON (AP) Houston starter Tatsuya Imai will pitch out of the bullpen for Houstons weekend series against the Texas Rangers, manager Joe Espada said Friday before the start of the three-game set after the right-hander struggled in his last start.Espada said that for now he expects the move to just be for this series.Were working with him, Espada said. We want to try to get him right because when hes on the mound and hes a starter, his stuff is really good (and) he can be effective."Imai got just two outs while giving up two runs and walking four on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Angels. He is in his first year with the Astros after signing a three-year, $54 million contract following eight professional seasons in Japan. Hes had an up and down season, at times pitching extremely well but struggling in several starts. He started and pitched six innings of a combined no-hitter against the Rangers on May 25.But hes lasted three innings or less in five of his 15 starts, including failing to get out of the first inning three times. Hes 6-4 with a 5.83 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings.Were going to work on a couple of things that we noticed in his last start and just trying to get him going that way, Espada said. Hopefully we can give him a few innings during the series. But if not, I think weve got a pretty good plan here moving forward to see how we can get him back.Espada said he did pitch out of the bullpen in Japan but that he hasnt done it much. Hes confident that he can handle the temporary switch.I think he can quickly get ready, Espada said. But were just going to go one inning at a time. Courtnall was grew up in Southern California in Los Angeles and played collegiately for the University of Southern California as a four-year starter. In her senior season she earned first team All-American honors won the Big 10 regular season championship and a quarter-final appearance in the NCAA tournament. She has also played for Canada at various youth levels and made her senior national team debut in February in the She Believes Cup helping the team earn a silver medal.The Wave play Bay FC once more in 2026 on the final match day of the season, and play their next match on the road on Sunday, August 2, against the Washington Spirit.

Chandler Blanchet knows what it is like to be on the cutline this season.The PGA Tour rookie missed the cut at his first five starts this season and had the weekend off at three of his last four starts. He looked to be headed for more of the same at the Rocket Classic in Detroit for the 13thtime in 22 starts this season after posting 2-over 72 on Thursday at Detroit Golf Club. But he birdied five holes in a row on the front nine to get to the right side of the cutline only to bogey Nos. 7 and 10 to slip back to 1 under and in danger of packing his bags. No need to book a flight because he drained a 9-foot birdie putt at 13 to give himself a chance and holed out from 32 feet off the green for birdie to shoot 65 and make the cut on the number. That is clutch city.Much the same can be said of Tony Finau's comeback. Finau was 3 over on the day after four holes and 1-over for the tournament with 14 holes remaining. All he did was make four birdies and an eagle at 8, bashing a 350-yard drive and holing out from 36 feet, to climb to 5 under and make the cut with room to spare. Mac Meissner finished in style too. Needing a birdie to make the weekend, he stuffed his approach at 18 from 116 yards to 19 inches and tapped in for birdie to finish at 2-under 68 and a guaranteed paycheck. So, too, did Adam Svensson at the par-3 ninth, sinking a 5-foot birdie putt to finish on the right side of the cut list. In all, 73 pros shot a 36-hole total of 3-under 137 or better to stay in the trophy hunt.Not everyone was so fortunate. Mackenzie Hughes took three putts from 56 feet at the par-3 ninth, his final hole of the day, to miss by one shot. Here's a closer look at some of the notables who failed to make it to the weekend.Jake KnappKnapp was a popular pick to win this week but after shooting the course record last year, he must not have liked the restoration. Knapp shot 67-71 to miss by one. He made four bogeys, including at his third-to-last hole, and a double on Friday. Sudarshan YellarmarajuThe Canadian rookie has been one of the real pleasant surprises this season. He entered the week at No. 53 in the FedEx Cup so hes booked for the first playoff event but hes hit his first slump. Yellamaraju shot a pair of 69s not awful but it marks his fourth missed cut in his last five starts.Ben GriffinLast years breakthrough star made par on the first 16 holes on Friday. Then he finished bogey-birdie to shoot even-par 70. Griffin struggled off the tee, hitting just 13 fairways and ranked 138thin SG: Off the Tee in the second round. Its just the fifth missed cut in 22 starts.Billy HorschelBogeys at the final two holes is a tough way to miss the cut for Horschel, an eight-time Tour winner. Hes missed the cut in four of his last five cuts and 10 times in 23 starts this season.Horschel, who entered the week at No. 102 in the FedEx Cup, can blame his ball striking. He ranked 144thin SG: Tee to Green, 136thin the field in SG: Approach and was 3 of 8 in scrambling (110th) to negate a good putting day.Chris GotterupJust the second missed cut of the season for the three-time Tour winner. Gotterup has strung together 14 straight made cuts but was sent packing after rounds of 68-73. Gotterup can blame his drive and short stick for the off week.He found only two of his first eight fairways on Friday, and experienced a bad putting week, losing nearly 3 strokes on the greens (127th). Gotterup ranked first in SG: Off the Tee on Thursday so this is more of an aberration than a reason for concern.Akshay BhatiaOne hole did Bhatia in at the Rocket Classic. He hit two foul balls at the par-4 7thand those two penalty strokes led to a triple-bogey 7. It marks Bhatias second straight missed cut and seventh in 18 events, which is a pretty high total for someone ranked 12thin the FedEx Cup.Wyndham ClarkClarks been on a heater, which included a win at the U.S. Open, but his best performance in Detroit this week was throwing out the first pitch at the Tigers game.Clark shot 71-74 and missed his second straight cut and just fifth of the season.Clark bogeyed three of the final four holes on Thursday to dig himself a hole. Bogeys at Nos. 11 and 12 dropped him to 3 over and a double bogey at 14 left him shooting 4-over for the day. Clark ranked 143rd in SG: Approach on Friday and SG: Tee to Green was even worse (146th).Aldrich PotgieterThe Rocket Classic defending champion couldnt channel any of the magic from his playoff win this time. The long-hitting South African opened in 76 and made two doubles and a triple at the seventh. Hes missed the cut in four of his last five starts and 10 times this season in 19 starts.Cam DavisThe Aussie makes this list because if there was ever going to be a week for him to bust out of his slump it would be Detroit, where he's won his only two Tour titles. But just more misery this week for Davis. He missed the cut for the 15th time in 19 starts this season and has the weekend off for the ninth time in his last 11 starts.Brad DalkeThe YouTube star got in on a sponsors exemption but this one didnt go as well as his turn on the DP World Tour, where he was T-2 heading into this weekend. Dalke called him opening round 81 nightmare fuel, and his scorecard indeed was pretty scary. It included a snowman at the par-5 14thand a double at 17 to shoot a first-nine 43.Friday, the pressure was off and he shot a more respectable 75 with two doubles but did get revenge on 14, playing it in half as many strokes and making birdie. The stats do tell the ugly story as he was dead last in the field or among the worst in just about every major statistical category. The Georgia Bulldogs have landed a commitment from four-star defensive back recruit Seth Williams, who committed to Georgia over the Clemson Tigers. Williams is a Clemson decommitment and is a big recruiting win for coach Kirby Smart and Georgia.The Bulldogs adding Williams to the class of 2027 comes at a critical time for UGA. Georgia only had one defensive back commitment, from four-star safety Adryan Cole, prior to Williams' decision.Williams is a member of the class of 2027 and plays high school football for Lakeside in Atlanta, Georgia. The four-star primarily is considered a safety prospect. Williams is ranked as the No. 19 safety in the nation and the No. 19 recruit in Georgia. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back is the No. 409 recruit in the country, according to the 247Sports composite.Following Williams' commitment, Georgia has 20 commitments in the 2027 cycle. Georgia has the country's No. 9 recruiting class. Georgia jumped up three spots in the recruiting rankings after Williams' decision. The Justice Department moved to dismiss the criminal case against former U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn on Friday.The DOJ had accused Hearn of vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which saw repeated issues earlier this year after the Trump Administrations attempts to make it look blue. Hearn faced a felony charge of "destruction of property $1,000 or more."Hearn was arrested on June 19 and pleaded not guilty. He conceded to the Washington Post that he had reached into the pool, but only to touch a piece of paint that had peeled off from the bottom of the basin and floated to the top of the water.President Donald Trump and his administration have repeatedly claimed vandalism to be the cause of the reflecting pools woes. However, U.S. attorney Jeanine Pirro walked back this claim in the motion to dismiss while claiming the DOJ only moved ahead with the charges based on information from the Department of the Interior.The 20-page document outright admits the damage was the result of flawed installation by the contractor."The Reflecting Pool renovations were conducted by Atlantic Industrial Coatings, which received a no-bid contract from the Trump Administration. After indicting Hearn, the DOJ claimed it received information from the Department of the Interior indicating that AIC had botched the job in a rush to be ready for the Fourth of July:It was not until after the return of the indictment, that the DOI provided additional documents to the USAO-DC indicating that damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in June 2026 was the result of flawed installation by the contractor, Atlantic Industrial Coatings ("AIC"), and the rush to complete the project prior to events associated with the America 250 celebration in the weeks surrounding Independence Day 2026. It was not until after these documents were produced that USAO-DC first became aware of information showing that the damage was the result of a botched installation and not vandalism as initially represented by DOI.Hearn competed in three Summer Olympics in the canoe slalom, finishing ninth in the C-1 race at the 1996 Atlanta Games. He also raced in the 1992 Barcelona and 2000 Sydney Olympics. He also won six consecutive world championships in the C-1 team competition from 1979 to 1989 and two individual titles in 1985 and 1995.

The Bedford all-stars rallied from an 8-0 fifth-inning deficit and topped Portsmouth 9-8 in Thursday nights opening game of the state Little League Baseball (10-12) championship series at Michele Memorial Park in Salem.Game 2 of the best-of-three series is set for Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Michele Memorial Park. A Game 3, if necessary, would be played Sunday at 12:30 p.m., also in Salem.Sam Bouthiette had a three-run double to highlight a five-run fifth inning and sent Bedford on its way to victory.
