SPORTS.YAHOO.COMArsenal consider two very different Saliba solutions as CB search heats up – ReportArsenal consider two very different Saliba solutions as CB search heats up ReportArsenal remain interested in Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, although the Midlands clubs reported 60 million valuation is currently viewed as a stumbling block. The report, byCaughtOffside, also claims the England international would be interested in a move to the Emirates, while Liverpool are also monitoring his situation.Arsenal continue their interest in Como defender Jacobo Ramn, with reports suggesting the Gunners are preparing an offer despite the Serie A sides reluctance to sell. The 21-year-old is also believed to be open to making the switch to north London.Arsenal keeping multiple defensive options openRather than focusing on a single target, the latest claims suggest Arsenal are continuing to assess several centre-back options as they prepare for the possibility of being without Saliba for an extended period.Alongside Konsa and Ramn, Arsenal have also been linked to former Gunner Konstantinos Mavropanos as another player under consideration, although this report suggests the West Ham defender would represent a lower-cost alternative. With Arsenal expected to compete on multiple fronts again this season, adding another central defender has become an increasingly important priority.(Photo by Gabriele Maltinti/Getty Images)Experience versus potential? The links to Konsa and Ramn present Arsenal with two very different profiles.Konsa, now 28, is a proven Premier League defender and England international who could slot into Artetas side with minimal adaptation. His versatility, leadership and experience at the highest level would make him an immediate option should Salibas absence extend into the season. The downside, however, is the reported 60 million asking price, which represents a significant investment for a player approaching his peak years.Ramn, meanwhile, would represent more of a long-term project. At just 21, the Spanish defender has impressed in Serie A since joining Como and appears to fit Arsenals recent recruitment strategy of identifying young players capable of developing into elite talents. While he may not be ready to replace Saliba immediately, his ceiling could make him an attractive investment if Arsenal believe he can develop under Artetas coaching.Ultimately, the decision may come down to whether Arsenal prioritise immediate reliability or future potential as they continue to reshape their squad. With the transfer window still open and Salibas recovery timeline remaining a key factor, it would be no surprise if Arsenal continued exploring both avenues before making a final decision. What would you prefer? Should Arsenal spend big on the proven Premier League quality of Ezri Konsa, or invest in the long-term potential of Jacobo Ramn? Or should we be looking at someone else entirely? SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReds, Pirates game paused as grounds crew fights to dry infieldIt's not an official rain delay, but the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates aren't playing baseball, and the cause is indeed the weather. Following the previous night's 1:46 rain delay, the Reds and Pirates on Aug. 2 went into another weather-related pause at Great American Ball Park as grounds crew members attempted to fight off standing water on the infield with sand and other drying tools. Again, no one has officially called this a rain delay, but it's been ongoing for about 15 minutes as of just prior to 3 p.m. Pirates manager Don Kelly was ejected after arguing with umpires during the pause. He gestured toward the field while he was speaking to the umpires. The in-game pause marked the third weather-impacted game of the homestand including the Reds-Cleveland Guardians game July 27 that was postponed to July 28 as part of a split doubleheader. The Reds and Pirates stopped play with Cincinnati leading, 7-1. Sal Stewart hit a two-run homer in the first inning, and Tyler Stephenson drove in a run with a base hit. Former Pirates player Ke'Bryan Hayes added a fourth run for the Reds with his second solo home run of the week in the second inning.A timetable for when the game might resume wasn't immediately announced by Reds and ballpark officials. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMEagles waive veteran defensive end TaQuon GrahamPHILADELPHIA The Philadelphia Eagles waived defensive lineman TaQuon Graham on Sunday, ending his bid to earn a reserve role in one of the deepest position groups on the roster. No corresponding addition was immediately announced. Grahams departure opens a spot on Philadelphias training camp roster and could create room for another transaction as practices continue. Graham originally joined the Eagles practice squad in November 2025, three days after the Atlanta Falcons released him. Philadelphia retained him by signing him to a reserve/future contract in March.A fifth-round selection out of Texas in the 2021 NFL draft, Graham spent his first five seasons with Atlanta. He appeared in 51 regular-season games with 16 starts, recording 88 tackles, 13 quarterback hits, one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery, according to the Eagles. We have waived DE TaQuon Graham. pic.twitter.com/ruZxlow7BM Philadelphia Eagles (@Eagles) August 2, 2026Graham opened the 2025 season on injured reserve with a calf injury. He returned for two games with the Falcons, contributing four tackles and one tackle for loss, before being waived. He did not appear in a game for Philadelphia after joining its practice squad. The 6-foot-4, 294-pound lineman entered camp facing significant competition for a limited number of jobs. Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis have secured long-term contracts as the foundation of the interior defensive line, while Moro Ojomo has developed into an important member of Vic Fangios rotation.Byron Young, Ty Robinson, Gabe Hall and other younger linemen are also competing for snaps and roster positions. Graham needed a strong summer to separate himself from a group that offered Philadelphia more developmental upside. His release does not necessarily signal another significant move, but Howie Roseman has consistently treated the roster as unfinished. The Eagles can use the opening to address another position, add competition on the defensive line, or accommodate a player returning from an injury list. For Graham, the move provides time to pursue another opportunity before preseason games begin. This article originally appeared on Eagles Wire: Eagles waive veteran defensive end TaQuon Graham0 Comments 0 Shares 42 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COM‘Not good’ – Hansi Flick was left unimpressed with Barcelona summer signing’s debutNot good Hansi Flick was left unimpressed with Barcelona summer signings debutBarcelona head coach Hansi Flick admitted that he was not left overly impressed by the performance put forth by summer signing Karim Adeyemi against Birmingham City.Attacker Adeyemi was of course unveiled as the latest addition to Flicks star-studded Blaugrana squad last week, after a cut-price deal was struck with Borussia Dortmund ahead of the Germans contract terms in 12 months time.Adeyemi, in turn, spent the week to date training alongside his new teammates, before being afforded his debut appearance courtesy of a starting berth against the aforementioned Birmingham in a friendly. The 24-year-old endured a difficult evening at St. Andrews, looking largely out of sorts in his new clubs tactical setup. And as alluded to above, drawn on the performance put forth by his recent addition in the games aftermath, Hansi Flick was not shy in confirming that Adeyemi is capable of much more.In quotes cited by Goal, Barcas headmaster explained:Karim, some things he did were not very good. WWW.FOXSPORTS.COMJose Mourinho Talks Vinicius Junior's Real Madrid Future Amid Arsenal LinksJose Mourinho has provided a definitive update on the future of Vincius Jnior following Real Madrid's pre-season clash with Fiorentina. The Portuguese tactician addressed the squad situation as the Brazilian forward continues to be the subject of intense interest from the Premier League. Arsenal ready to pounce on contract standoff The Gunners have been closely monitoring Vinicius situation at the Bernabeu, where contract negotiations have hit a visible impasse. With the Brazilian international entering the final year of his current deal, which expires in 2027, the hierarchy at the Emirates Stadium believes there is a unique window of opportunity to strike a deal that would stun the footballing world. The financial hurdles are significant, but the North London club appears undeterred by the potential costs involved in such a high-profile operation. Reports indicate that a willingness to shatter the club's traditional wage structure and utilize lucrative image rights agreements to satisfy the demands of a player widely considered to be one of the best in the world. Mourinho addresses Vinicius return Despite persistent rumors linking Vinicius with a sensational move to North London, Mouurinho expects his talismanic winger to report for duty in the Spanish capital imminently. With several key players still on an extended break following the World Cup, Mourinho admitted he is eager to get his full squad together as soon as possible. "Im concerned about not having everyone, and I would like to have three weeks of work with the others. Its not possible," Mourinho said via the club's official website. "On Monday, Vini Jr, Brahim, and Bernardo will arrive. Little by little, until the boys who played in the World Cup semifinals and final arrive, with the final being only Cucurella." Tactical analysis of the Fiorentina draw Mourinho oversaw his first game since returning to Madrid dugout on Saturday, a 2-2 pre-season draw against Fiorentina at the Worthersee Stadium. Madrid raced into a two-goal lead through Endrick and academy product Alexis Ciria, though they were eventually pegged back by strikes from Roberto Piccoli and Moise Kean. Mourinho noted that his team displayed "three faces" during the encounter: fresh, tired, and super tired. "I liked everything. It was a Madrid with three faces: fresh, tired, and super tired. The fresh team played very well, and the 2-1 scoreline was far too short," Mourinho noted. "The first half was of very high quality, and we could have been leading three or four to nil comfortably." "In the second half, the game became more physical against a typically Italian team with great physicality. After that, we saw Moise Kean playing in the area against two 18-year-olds, who had a great game and are growing, but physically, they are not yet at the level to handle someone like Moise. The third face, which I also liked a lot, was the super tired face, but where the team knew how to be a team, control the game, and regain dominance." Youth and new arrivals impress the manager Beyond the established stars, the Fiorentina friendly served as a platform for new faces and academy talents to stake their claim. Denzel Dumfries and Endrick both earned praise for their fitness levels and commitment. "Dumfries and Endrick trained for three days and played more than 70 minutes. Its a fantastic effort that, to me, signifies a willingness to give their all," he explained. "Joan and Mario are two kids with a fantastic future who displayed tremendous class as long as the game didnt get too physical. I loved seeing the quality of the youngsters."0 Comments 0 Shares 41 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMThe Tigers face a difficult challenge after trading ace Tarik Skubal to the DodgersWEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) The Detroit Tigers said their goodbyes to ace Tarik Skubal and now must turn their focus to an uncertain final two months of the season as they try to make a playoff push without their best player. The Tigers traded the two-time reigning AL Cy Young Award winner to the Los Angeles Dodgers for three minor league prospects in a deal that was agreed to late Saturday night. Baseball has a funny way of challenging you to deal with change, Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said before the series finale against the Athletics on Sunday. Sometimes thats difficult, sometimes its part of the game and part of the business. These guys are callous to some of the emotions that come with it. Moving on without Skubal is the ultimate challenge. The ninth-round draft pick in 2018 developed into one of the best pitchers in baseball, winning the Cy Young in 2024 and '25 and posting a 2.40 ERA over the past three seasons.Skubal is 7-5 this season with a 2.79 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 96 2/3 innings and had a major impact in the clubhouse. But with him set to become a free agent after the season, the Tigers opted to trade him for minor league right-handers River Ryan and Brady Smith and outfielder Zyhir Hope. Hinch said it was important for the players to appreciate what Skubal gave the team while still understanding the task ahead. He wasnt going to pitch today. So we have to be sort of cold about we got to move on and go play todays game that he wasnt going to impact despite the loss of his presence in our clubhouse, Hinch said. "We have a ton of respect for what he brought every day, his preparation, his attitude, his desire to win. That impact doesnt leave with him as he gets on a plane to go to a different team. The day-to-day does, and were going to have to find a way to overcome it.News of the trade broke during Detroit's 8-6 win over the A's on Saturday night with many players first hearing about it from fans near the dugout during the game. Skubal was back in the clubhouse beyond the center-field fence at the minor league stadium where the A's play when he got the news, making it impossible for the players to get the news directly from him until after the game. But they managed to focus on the game and come up with the win. The teams handled it really well, first baseman Spencer Torkelson said. Leading up to the trade, I thought we blocked out the noise amazing. Even in the sixth inning when everyones screaming at us from the stands that we traded our best pitcher, I think we kept our focus and kept the main thing the main thing. I think as a team we still believe in ourselves and we know that were definitely not out of it.The trade came at an uncertain time for the Tigers, who have overcome a slow start to the season to move with 2 1/2 games of the final wild-card spot after winning the first two games of this series.Prized prospect Max Clark was called up from the minors on Friday and has delivered five hits, two doubles, a homer and three RBIs in two games. But the team also scratched Casey Mize from his scheduled start this weekend in case he gets traded before the deadline Monday. Its a weird, weird place," Mize said. Weve played really good baseball the last couple days. We trade our best player. It says were 2 1/2 back, but obviously theres a lot of teams still to overpass, so its certainly a strange spot."The task now will be to try to get back to the playoffs without Skubal after they lost in Game 5 of the division series the past two seasons. Skubal started both of those losses. He had a rough start and took the loss in 2024 against Cleveland. He had a strong start last season with 13 strikeouts in six innings against Seattle but the bullpen squandered a 2-1 lead and the Tigers went on to lose 3-2 in 15 innings.Skubal said Saturday night after the trade that it hurt that he couldn't help deliver Detroit its first World Series title since 1984. Over the last couple of years, we dont get anywhere near to what weve done without Tarik Skubal, Mize said. I hope our fan base is appreciative of that, even if it maybe didnt end the way that everyone wanted it to.The Tigers fans might get a chance to see Skubal again later this month when the Dodgers visit Detroit Aug. 28-30.___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb0 Comments 0 Shares 40 Views 0 Reviews
