Dallas was leading the Browns 24-7 at halftime. That's John DeMarie (55) who missed Hayes. It is Day 42 of our 100-day countdown to kickoff. We are looking back at the 100 most iconic games in Dallas Cowboys history. The countdown will leads us right up to the opening game of 2026. Our look back doesnt depend on just one criteria for our rankings. We take into consideration things like how big the game was for the organization, how memorable the game was, games that had unusual events take place, games that are a part of NFL lore, Cowboys firsts, and games where the Cowboys just plain dominated. Variety is the spice of life and we have all different kind of Cowboys games to review. At the bottom, well link each day of the countdown so you can go back and check out any you missed.Welcome to Day 42 of our 100-day countdown to kickoff, when we revisit the game that gave the Cowboys their first postseason victory and established them as a legitimate championship-level franchise. Dallas and Cleveland had both finished 9-5, but there was nothing even about what happened on Christmas Eve in 1967.Sunday, December 24, 1967 2:30 p.m. ETCotton Bowl, Dallas, TexasFinal Score: Dallas Cowboys 52, Cleveland Browns 14Dallas took control of this one immediately. The Cowboys drove 80 yards in 13 plays on their opening possession, with Don Perkins breaking a 24-yard run before Don Meredith found Craig Baynham for a three-yard touchdown. Later in the first quarter, Bob Hayes returned a punt 64 yards to the Cleveland 13-yard line. Four plays later, Perkins powered across on fourth down, and Dallas had a 14-0 lead before the Browns could settle into the game.Cleveland briefly threatened to respond when star running back Leroy Kelly broke a 46-yard run to the Dallas 10. The Cowboys defense stiffened, however, and a poor snap ruined Lou Grozas field-goal attempt. Dallas took over at its own 10-yard line, and two plays later Meredith launched the play that broke the game open. Hayes raced past cornerback Mike Howell, caught the ball beyond midfield and completed an 86-yard touchdown, giving the Cowboys a 21-0 advantage. It was the longest scoring play in NFL postseason history at the time.Danny Villanueva added a short field goal to make it 24-0 before Cleveland finally reached the end zone. Frank Ryan found tight end Milt Morin for a 13-yard touchdown late in the second quarter, cutting the score to 24-7 at halftime. The Browns had at least given themselves a small opening, but Dallas removed it almost immediately after the break. The third quarter became an avalanche, and if you were a Cowboys fan this quarter was a dream come true. Baynham scored on a one-yard run, Perkins added another short touchdown and defensive back Cornell Green intercepted Ryan and returned it 60 yards for a score. Dallas piled up 21 unanswered points in the quarter and carried a 45-7 lead into the fourth. What had begun as an important conference playoff game had become one of the most one-sided postseason performances of the era.Baynham scored his third touchdown of the afternoon on another one-yard run, pushing Dallas past 50 points. Clevelands Paul Warfield later caught a 75-yard touchdown from Ryan, but it did nothing beyond changing the final margin. The Cowboys had scored in every quarter, produced six offensive touchdowns and added Greens interception return in a 52-14 rout. This game belongs on the countdown because it marked a major step in the Cowboys transformation from an expansion team into one of the NFLs emerging powers. Dallas had reached the NFL Championship Game the previous season but lost to Green Bay without first having to win a playoff round. Beating Cleveland gave the organization its first postseason victory, the Eastern Conference title and another opportunity against Vince Lombardis Packers. Seven days later, the Cowboys would play in the Ice Bowl, one of the most famous games in NFL history.#Cowboys vs #Browns1967Divisional RoundFinal Score: Dallas Cowboys 52, Cleveland Browns 14#DallasCowboys #NFL(:@nfl) pic.twitter.com/WlWJmyvgfI Mike Poland (@kenfigkowboy) August 1, 2026Interesting Facts About the GameThis remains tied for the highest-scoring postseason game in Cowboys history. The 52 points was tied in the Super Bowl versus Buffalo, but the 38-point winning margin is still a franchise playoff record.Countdown To Kickoff by day:100,99,98,97,96,95,94,93,92,91,90,89,88,87,86,85,84,83,82,81,80,79,78,77,76,75,74,73,72,71,70,69,68,67,66,65,64,63,62,61,60,59,58,57,56,55,54,53,52,51,50,49,48,47,46,45,44,43

We would like to let go of those players Max Eberl makes Bayern Munichs intentions clear on Joo Palhinha, Sacha Boey, Bryan Zaragoza
ROTTACH-EGERN, GERMANY - JULY 29: Max Eberl, Sporting Manager and Board member for sport of FC Bayern Mnchen looks on during a press conference at the FC Bayern Mnchen summer training camp on July 29, 2026 in Rottach-Egern, Germany. (Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesBayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl made the clubs intentions incredibly clear Joo Palhinha, Sacha Boey, and Bryan Zaragoza are all for sale and will face a tough time finding playing time in Bavaria. We would like to let go of those players because, if they stay, they will find it very difficult to get playing time here. Nevertheless, they have every right to train with Bayern Munich and to prove themselves, but as far as our squad planning is concerned, we have other ideas, Eberl said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). At some point in August, clubs will assess their squads. Some may have qualified for European competitions, while others may have suffered injuries, so well have to wait and see. But theres already movement in the market. At this point, Bayern Munich is likely not worried about maintaining leverage. Getting all three players off the salary budget would be a huge accomplishment for Eberl during this transfer window. However, each player is likely making more money than other clubs may want to pay them. While not impossible, the moves could prove difficult for Eberl to get done this month, unless other clubs have injury situations to deal with. Max Eberl remaining tight-lipped about his Bayern Munich future amidst extension rumors
ROTTACH-EGERN, GERMANY - JULY 29: Max Eberl, Sporting Manager and Board member for sport of FC Bayern Mnchen talks to the media during a press conference at the FC Bayern Mnchen summer training camp on July 29, 2026 in Rottach-Egern, Germany. (Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesIt has been reported by Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg that Max Eberl is looking set to have his Bayern Munich contract extended by at least one year as the clubs board member for sport. After a period of uncertainty in the latter stages of Bayerns 2025/26 domestic double season, its now looking like Eberl has done enough to convince the clubs hierarchy to extend his stay beyond 2027, when his current contract is set to expire. The supervisory board will officially decide on Eberls extension after their next meeting later this month and its understood internally that theyre pleased with the summer transfer business thats already been completed this summer with bringing in Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven and Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt in addition to signing Bara Sapoko Ndiaye on his first professional contract with the club. In addition to incoming signings, Eberls task remaining this summer, alongside sporting director Christoph Freund, is to try to offload out-of-favor players to help better balance Bayerns overall wage bill. When Eberl was directly asked about his future at the clubs preseason training camp in Tegernsee, the 52-year-old remained rather tight-lipped in his answer and said hes just focused on doing his job right now.Thats not my task. My task is to do my job. Ive been doing that for over two years now: building a squad that can bring success, with players with whom we can identify, playing football that people enjoy watching. Thats my task. And then a decision will be made about me. But thats not our topic today, Eberl replied when he was asked about his future and upcoming expiring contract next year.Of course, all signs are pointing towards an extension for Eberl, but he might not have known that at the time he was asked the question in Tegernsee. There were certainly doubts before this past season ended that he would be offered an extension, but the supervisory board now seems pleased enough to be able to extend his contract with what theyve seen so far this summer. Just 4 blue-chip prospects in 2027 cycle are uncommitted
Less than three weeks ago, just 10 blue-chip prospects in the 2027 cycle remained uncommitted. That number is now down to four.Usually theres still plenty of recruiting dominoes that remain standing when football season gets underway. While there will be no shortage of flips and decommitments throughout the fall, there wont be but maybe one or two recruitments that have gone without at least one decision. Each of the top 100 prospects in the nation according to theRivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies are now off the board following four-star running back Landen Williams-Callis pledge to Texas this weekend.Below is a look at the quartet of blue-chippers in the senior cycle that are currently uncommitted, as of Aug. 2:4-star LBBrayton FeisterRivals Industry Ranking:No. 130 NATL. (No. 10 LB)School:Washington(Ohio)RPM Favorite:OregonOther Contenders:Georgia, CalFeisters contenders had come into focus earlier in the summer, and for a while, it looked like the linebacker was going to make a commitment sometime in July. He ultimately decided to push his decision back, and since then, things have been quiet for the No. 7 prospect in the state of Ohio. Oregon snatched the momentum coming out of official visit season and is still trending ahead of Georgia and Cal, though it remains to be seen when the nations top uncommitted recruit will come off the board. 4-star SKaron EugeneRivals Industry Ranking:No. 339 NATL. (No. 29 S)School:Westgate(La.)RPM Favorite:LSUOther Contenders:Ohio State, Texas A&MFormerly a top-100 prospect in the cycle, the recruitment of Eugene has been awfully silent ahead of his senior season. LSU has been trending in the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine for over 10 months. Other notable programs have kicked the tires with the dynamic safety, but its unclear whats next for the No. 12 prospect in Louisiana. LSU continues to prioritize local targets and it would love to keep Eugene in The Boot if all plays out right. 4-star LBTrace WashingtonRivals Industry Ranking:No. 385 NATL. (No. 33 LB)School:Woodstock(Ga.)RPM Favorite:VanderbiltOther Contenders:Mississippi State, Florida State, Rutgers, othersThe top uncommitted prospect in the Peach State has not carried a high-profile recruitment, though he has garnered his fair share of high-profile offers. A prediction has not been logged in the Rivals RPM in favor of any program landing Washingtons pledge and its unclear when hell narrow things down and work towards a commitment. He plays running back and linebacker at the high school level. Washington was a top performer for Rivals at the Under Armour camp in Atlanta this spring.4-star QBJulian Reese IIRivals Industry Ranking:No. 399 NATL. (No. 28 QB)School:Palo Duro(Texas)RPM Favorite:DelawareOther Contenders:Houston, Wake ForestThe nations top uncommitted QB prospect has not been recruited as a quarterback by some schools. Reese has his sights set on being a passer at the next level, however. Thats led him to an interesting final three of Wake Forest, Houston and Delaware and the Blue Hens are trending after a prediction from Rivals insider Sam Spiegelman. Reese is set to announce his commitment later this month on Aug. 28. Hes the No. 50 prospect in the Lone Star State.

A's slugger Nick Kurtz will see a specialist about his injured right thumb
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) Athletics slugger Nick Kurtz will see a hand specialist in Los Angeles on Monday about his injured right thumb and could be headed to the injured list.Kurtz went on the injured list with a sprained right thumb on July 11 and returned two weeks later. But he has struggled at the plate since then, going 1 for 18 in seven games since returning to the lineup. Kurtz was also hit on the left forearm with a pitch on Wednesday night but was able to return to the lineup for the next two games.Manager Mark Kotsay said on Sunday that the team will determine the next steps for Kurtz after he visits the specialist. The 23-year-old Kurtz is batting .256 with 21 homers and a team-high 69 RBIs. Kurtz ranks third in the majors with 79 walks and is fourth among qualifiers with a .396 on-base percentage going into Sunday's games. He also ranks 12th in the majors with an .879 OPS. Kotsay said shortstop Jacob Wilson has been dealing with tendinitis in his knee that has prevented him from playing in the field since Wednesday. Wilson was a designated hitter the past three games and was out of the starting lineup on Sunday but should be back at shortstop for the series opener at Cincinnati on Tuesday. Wilson has gone 107 straight games without an error, three shy of Mike Bordick's record for a shortstop set in 2002. The A's also expect to get right-hander J.T. Ginn off the injured list to start that game against the Reds. Ginn has been out since July 19 with a blister on his right middle finger. Ginn is 8-6 with a 3.46 ERA this season.Third baseman Zack Gelof will begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday at Triple-A Las Vegas after being out since July 10 after suffering a cut on his right knee when he slid into the wall making a catch. ___AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/mlb

Hakeem Adeniji retires one week after signing with Ravens
BALTIMORE Hakeem Adenijis time with the Baltimore Ravens lasted slightly more than one week. The Ravens placed the veteran offensive lineman on the reserve-retired list Sunday, according to the NFL transaction wire. Adeniji signed with Baltimore on July 25 after participating in a workout one day earlier.Baltimore added Adeniji to strengthen an offensive line undergoing significant changes. His ability to play guard and tackle gave the Ravens an experienced option behind a group featuring Ronnie Stanley, Roger Rosengarten, John Simpson, Vega Ioane and Ethan Pocic. A sixth-round selection by Cincinnati in the 2020 NFL draft, Adeniji appeared in 58 games with 16 starts during stops with the Bengals, Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys. He started at both tackle positions and right guard during his three seasons with Cincinnati.Adeniji signed with Cleveland in 2024 but missed the season after suffering a knee injury. He returned with Dallas last year, appearing in 12 games and making one start while logging 77 offensive snaps. The Ravens signed Adeniji to a one-year, $1.215 million contract, according to Spotrac. His placement on the reserve-retired list removes him from the active roster while allowing Baltimore to retain his contractual rights if he eventually seeks reinstatement. His departure reopens a roster spot and removes one of the most experienced candidates from the reserve offensive line competition. Carson Vinson, Gerad Lichtenhan and rookie Diego Pounds are among the tackles competing behind Stanley and Rosengarten. Danny Pinter, Jovaughn Gwyn, Corey Bullock and Nick Dawkins are fighting for opportunities along the interior.Baltimore had not immediately announced a corresponding move. General manager Eric DeCosta could add another veteran blocker or use the opening to address a different position. Adeniji was expected to provide valuable flexibility during the preseason. His sudden retirement leaves the Ravens searching for another answer before their first exhibition game. This article originally appeared on Ravens Wire: Hakeem Adeniji retires one week after signing with Ravens
