Newcastle star to request transfer after joining training camp late
Newcastle star to request transfer after joining training camp lateBruno Guimaraes is linking up with Newcastle United at their summer training camp, but hes set to inform new manager Matthias Jaissle of his desire to leave for Arsenal.Photo by Jan Kruger/Getty ImagesGary Stonehouse reports for The S*n that Bruno Guimaraes is set to link up with Newcastle United for their Spain training camp on Monday, and hell have a meeting with sporting director Ross Wilson and new manager Matthias Jaissle the same day.According to the report, Guimaraes will use that meeting to inform Wilson and Jaissle of his wish to leave Newcastle and join Arsenal.Lee Ryder confirms for The Journal that Jaissle wants sitdown talks with Guimaraes, hoping to sell his vision and philosophy to the midfielder and others in the Newcastle squad on Monday.Ryder continues to insist that Newcastle sources havent received a bid from Arsenal. For ChronicleLive, Ryder reports that Bruno is currently on his way in to the training camp, turning up a day late.Photo by Stu Forster/Getty ImagesDamian Spellman reports the same thing for Manchester Evening News, writing that Newcastle are insisting there has been no direct contact between the two clubs. But Spellman confirms that Guimaraes has indicated he wants to leave, and adds that whilst Newcastle dont want to sell, they know there may not be a great deal they can do to keep their captain if his heart is set on a move. There have long been suggestions in the media that Arsenal have been informally working with intermediaries towards reaching a verbal agreement, before formally submitting a bid they know will be accepted.Mario Cortegana, James McNicholas, and David Ornstein reported for The Athletic last week that Arsenal are closing in on a deal, despite Newcastles ongoing denials.Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty ImagesGuimaraes made 41 appearances for Newcastle last season, scoring nine goals and assisting a further eight despite playing a relatively defensive midfield role. But with Newcastle finishing 12th in the league and missing out on any form of European football, whilst Arsenal won the league and reached the Champions League final, its not hard to see why the 28-year-old is now keen on a transfer. For those who enjoy all the little nonsense around transfers, well leave you with one more detail. On Sunday, one Newcastle fan noticed the club have now replaced some Bruno banners around the ground with images of other players. For whatever thats worth.Images via TheMag.co.uk

Mets trade Huascar Brazobn to the White Sox
NEW YORK, NY - AUGUST 02: Huascar Brazobn #43 of the New York Mets greets teammates in the dugout during the game between the Miami Marlins and the New York Mets at Citi Field on Sunday, August 2, 2026 in New York, New York. (Photo by Phebe Grosser/MLB Photos via Getty Images) | MLB Photos via Getty ImagesIn the wee hours of the morning, the Mets reportedly completed a trade sending right-handed reliever Huascar Brazobn to the Chicago White Sox for a pair of minor league pitchers, Gabe Davis and Zach Franklin. Brazobns path to the majors was not a traditional one, as he was drafted in 2011 and toiled in the minor leagues for nine years, with a four year detour to the International League, before finally making the bigs in 2023 as a member of the Miami Marlins. As part of their trade deadline in 2024, the Mets sent Wilfredo Lara to the Fish for Brazobns services. Although 2024 was not a great season for Brazobn, 2025 and 2026 have both been highly effective. 2026 has been easily his best year in professional baseball thus far, putting up a 162 ERA+, a 2.56 ERA, and a 2.13 K/BB ratio. The knock on Brazobn, and the likely reason the Mets moved a reliever with three years of team control, is his age. Brazobn is entering his age 37 season in 2027, and with reliever volatility and the general aging curve of baseball, each subsequent season from now on seemed to be more of a roll of a the dice than usual. The return includes Gabe Davis, Chicagos fifth round draft pick in 2025, currently ranked as the White Sox 18th best prospect via MLB Pipeline and 20th per Baseball America. Davis is a tall (69) drink of water who couldnt harness his raw stuff at Oklahoma State. Davis dominated High-A ball in eight starts, but struggled since his Double-A call up. Here is what our friends at South Side Sox had to say about Davis:The right-handers stuff is extremely interesting. His fastball sits 9497 mph and touches 100, thrown from a massive frame that naturally creates steep plane. The velocity doesnt always overpower hitters the way the number on the scoreboard suggests, but the pitch still flashes plenty of life. Davis best weapon is a tight, upper-80s power slider. A pitch that can reach 92 mph and serves as a legitimate wipeout offering when hes synced up. He can morph it into a harder cutter and mixes in an occasional mid-80s changeup with promising fade, though the change remains his least reliable pitch.Zach Franklin, unlisted in either MLB Pipeline or Baseball Americas Sox prospect lists, is a relief pitcher drafted out of the University of Missouri in 2023. Per South Side Sox, Franklin has short arm action that builds in some deception and throws a split-change, a breaking pitch that acts like a slider, and a sinker and four-seam fastball. Minor league reliever data is always a little tough to come by/parse, but it looks like Franklin struggled a bit in his promotion to Triple-A this season, but continues to strike out guys at a high rate and not walk too many.
