How the 16 coaches in the SEC stack up entering the 2026 season

Pochettino originally took the job in Sept. 2024 with a focus on leading the team at this summer's World Cup on home soil

The name has changed, the colours have changed and much of the conversation around the franchise has changed too.Investment from Indian Premier League (IPL) side Mumbai Indians into Oval Invincibles led to The Hundred's most successful team rebranding itself as MI London and bringing the multi-billionaire Ambani family's cricket empire to The Oval.Here, BBC Sport takes a look at what has changed, what has stayed the same and what the future holds for the franchise.'We haven't looked at the contract once'MI London won three consecutive Hundred men's titles as Oval Invincibles [Getty Images]Reliance Industries Limited, chaired by Mukesh Ambani, bought a 49% stake in Oval Invincibles in a deal worth about 60m in January 2025, among the first sale of teams in The Hundred.However, Surrey chief executive Steve Elworthy said their relationship with India's wealthiest family began long before the bidding process got under way."They've been huge supporters of The Hundred for a number of years," the former South Africa cricketer told BBC Sport. "They used to take our boardroom box every August to watch The Hundred when we were still Invincibles."Early conversations convinced Elworthy and his team they had found the right partner in the Ambanis."The first meeting we had, we spent about 45 minutes talking about just cricket," Elworthy said.At about 120m, MI London are the most valuable of the franchises after their London neighbours - the Lord's-based London Spirit, who were valued at about 300m.What has changed in The Hundred for 2026?The Hundred 2026 - schedule and how to followFor the investors, the attraction must have been obvious.The Oval is one of the world's most recognisable sporting venues, Invincibles had won five titles across men's and women's competitions and Surrey regularly attracts some of the highest attendances in the county game."We do cricket well," Elworthy said. "We've got an incredibly strong membership, incredible attendances across formats and we are based in London. It's a really attractive proposition."As part of the deal, Invincibles were rebranded MI London, bringing the franchise in line with the rest of the MI stable that includes MI Cape Town, MI Emirates and MI New York.But Surrey, who remain the major shareholder, were determined not to lose their identity.Elworthy added: "The beauty of this partnership is that the agreement was signed in late 2025 and we are halfway through our first season together, but we haven't even had to look at the contract once. "It felt like a very smooth transition for me, having a foot in both camps," Jacks said, when asked about the team's changed identity. The 27-year-old came through the ranks at Surrey, was part of Invincibles since its inception and also plays for MI in the IPL."The kit's changed obviously and it incorporates the blue and gold of MI but the training kit still has the Invincibles colours, so it is kind of a mix of the two," Jacks said. "So I think they've done a good job of moulding the two together. But for us players and the coaching staff, everything feels very similar." Tom Moody, who guided Invincibles to a hat-trick of men's titles as head coach, has been replaced by Kieron Pollard, who previously played in the IPL for MI as well as for their sister teams in Major League Cricket, SA20 and ILT20.Mitchell McClenaghan also joined from the MI network as the men's bowling coach but there is still a strong Surrey presence in the coaching staff with Gareth Batty, Jim Troughton and Nic Pothas playing prominent roles. It's a similar story with the women's side where Lisa Keightley, fresh from coaching MI in the Women's Premier League (WPL), succeeded Jonathan Batty but is joined by Surrey women's head coach Johann Myburgh and Dan Helesfay.Lisa Keightley previously won The Hundred with Northern Superchargers [Getty Images]Perhaps the biggest additions from the MI investment have come in the form of commercial expertise and global reach. "MI have got teams around the world and business around the world, so that's something we've learned from them," Elworthy said. "The Hundred previously was pretty local. Whereas now, I think we've actually got a global brand here and global partners now. That's a brilliant place to be."All other teams MI have around the world, they are the sole owners. But they're a minority shareholder here but we don't behave like that. We behave as a team to do the best for MI London." Former Australia and England coach Keightley echoed Elworthy's words. "I know MI have been very mindful that for the first time, they're working with another organisation," Keightley said. "From my experience, both organisations are working really hard to make it successful."MI's insight from having so many teams is definitely helpful. I know how passionate the owners are and when they commit to something, they do everything to make sure the team's successful." For players, it also offers a chance to play for other franchises in the MI network and thereby, grow their game. "I've been very lucky," Jacks said. "Playing with so many great players and icons of Indian cricket at MI has opened me up to a lot of new things and skills. That experience, you can't buy that."Keightley added: "If you're a MI London player, there's definitely an opportunity to be involved in WPL. Because you build the relationship, you know what a player can do and they know the environment that they're going into." What's next for MI London? Their supporters might still be adjusting to the new name and colours but Surrey and MI are already planning for the future. One important part of their plans will be turning MI London into a brand that exists year-round rather than for just a few weeks each summer."You don't want a competition that everybody only thinks about while it's happening," Elworthy said. "It's our job to make sure there's a cycle all the way through the year."They also plan to take greater responsibility for areas currently managed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Having completed the takeover only months before the start of the season, they have relied on ECB to deliver operational aspects, including ticketing. But Elworthy said the club are currently considering which services they want to take in-house from 2027.He said: "We want to control and run all the facets of the team - the delivery of the game, the global expansion and building the brand itself."On the field though, the ambition remains unchanged. After five titles in as many years, MI London's focus is on producing more silverware-winning teams. That may happen very soon if their men's team can maintain the form which has seen them reach second in the table after five matches.Who am I? This is especially true for Duke football fans in 2026. It is time to move forward.The first thing Duke has is coaching-staff stability. Head Coach Manny Diaz returns for his third season at the helm, with Offensive Coordinator Jonathan Brewer, Defensive Coordinator Jonathan Patke and Special Teams Coordinator Gabe Infante at his side. In todays college football landscape, maintaining all your coordinators is not a given.Strength and Conditioning Coach David Feeley is back for his fifth season at Duke. He is considered one of the best in the business, and his continued presence is a boon for the program. Feeley previously worked with Coach Diaz at Miami. There has been movement with some of the position coaches, so Duke has a new Defensive Ends Coach (Trent Harris), and a new Running Backs Coach (Rodney Freeman II), but overall the staff is remarkably stable. Coaching staff stability is a big plus for a program.Trent Harris comes to Duke from Illinois, where he coached outside linebackers the past two years. Harris played defensive end at Miami under Manny Diaz.Rodney Freeman II was the running backs coach at East Carolina University the past two seasons.Lets take a look at the offense, which leads to the second thing Duke has, which is talent on the offensive side of the ball. That talent is in the form of both returning players, and additions via the transfer portal, plus incoming true freshmen (more on the freshmen below).A look at the offense has to commence with Second Team All-ACC running back Nate Sheppard. Sheppard rushed for 1,132 and 11 TDs, while catching 37 passes for 286 yards and one TD. The 2026 offense will definitely look to feature Sheppard from Day One. He is fast and elusive, but simultaneously runs with power. He is a star looking to become a superstar. That is not an overstatement.The running back room added graduate transfer C.J. Campbell Jr. via the portal. Campbell has played in 31 games (12 starts), rushing for 1,144 yards and 14 TDs, plus 41 receptions for 469 yards and three TDs. Campbell previously played at Rutgers, Florida Atlantic and Florida State. The ability to catch the ball out of the backfield is a key skill set that will really help Dukes offense. Tight end Jeremiah Hasley is another returning talent. Hasley was Honorable Mention All-ACC in 2025, with 40 receptions for 454 yards and six TDs. The tight end position is bolstered by graduate transfer Nate Kurisky. In 38 games (16 starts) at Louisville, Kurisky recorded 50 receptions for 410 yards and seven touchdowns.The offensive line returns two starters in center Matt Craycroft and left guard Jordan Larsen. These two will be the offensive line core pieces, joined by graduate transfer tackles Nick Del Grande and Braden Miller, who are the presumptive starters on the outside. Del Grande was a two-time All-Sun Belt selection at Coastal Carolina, where he started 35 games. Braden Miller played in 22 games (seven starts) for California and Michigan State.Moreover, Duke has multiple returning offensive linemen who have played a significant number of snaps for the Blue Devils. Bradley Smith has appeared in 15 games, including one start. He started at right guard in the 2025 Sun Bowl, and has played 402 snaps. Micah Sahakian has struggled to stay healthy since transferring to Duke. He did not see game action in 2025, but played in four games (two starts) for the Blue Devils in 2024. Sahakian was twice selected All-Ivy League at Cornell, and has played 1,849 snaps in his college career.But there are question marks. Thats the third thing Duke has.The biggest question is quarterback. Graduate transfer Walker Eget joined the Blue Devils via the portal after spending five seasons at San Jose State, where he started 18 games and played in 27. Eget passed for 5,563 yards with 30 TDs and 19 interceptions. Highlight videos show a strong arm and give the impression Eget is a bit of a gunslinger who tends to force the ball at times.Redshirt freshman Dan Mahan has a year in the program, but has zero game action. Mahan threw two touchdown passes in this years Spring Game, and is reputed to be a strong runner.Ari Patu (North Alabama / Stanford) and Blaine Hipa (Princeton) are two additional quarterback graduate transfers. One can never have too many quarterbacks.Wide receiver is another big question. Jayden Moore returns, and he recorded seven receptions for 42 yards in 2025. So Duke hit the portal hard, and brought in several transfers.Jared Richardson led the Ivy League in receptions and touchdown receptions in 2025 for Penn. He is a big receiver at 62 220, who has 193 receptions for 2,505 yards and 27 TDs in 33 games (29 starts). He is the odds-on favorite to be Dukes number one receiver in 2026.Javon Nicholas played at Charlotte in 2025 after spending three seasons with LSU. He has played in 38 games (11 starts), totaling 64 receptions for 766 yards and five TDs. He also returned eight punts for 99 yards. Nicholas should compete for a starting position.Jonah Burton arrives from Idaho State after spending four seasons at Baylor. In 18 games (three starts) he has 31 receptions for 373 yards.Finally, there are the incoming true freshmen. One never knows what youre getting with freshmen. Will someone step up and be a star like Nate Sheppard was in 2025? That would be nice but certainly not expected.Interior offensive lineman Sean Stover is from Prosper, TX, and a 4-star ESPN300 recruit ranked as the 199th best player in his class. He is certain to be in the mix competing for a starting spot at RG.There are two freshman WRs who will look to compete for snaps. Kavon Conciauro from Warner Robins, GA, and Brody Keefe from Charlotte, NC. Both have nice size at 64, 200, and 63, 190, respectively.Tight end Ben Moseley, from Centre, AL, is another freshman who could make an impact.Running backs C.J. Givers from Roswell, GA, and Jayvian Tanelus from Naples, FL, will compete for minutes as the backup running back when Nate Sheppard needs a breather.Last, but not least, dual threat quarterback Terry Walker III, from Indianapolis, IN, is the second-highest rated recruit in the class after Sean Stover. Mauricio Pochettino has unfinished business with the U.S. men's national team. Pochettino has signed a new, four-year contract with U.S. Soccer, the federation announced Monday, Aug. 3. This will be his first full World Cup cycle with the USMNT, having taken over the team less than two year's before this summer's tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico. "Its a great opportunity because the potential is there," Pochettino said during a small roundtable with reporters before his new deal was announced. "We were so close. That gap with the best teams in the world is not so big," Pochettino said. "To reduce that gap, I think its possible. I think its possible because we have the talent, we have the organization." U.S. Soccer hired Pochettino, a successful European club manager, in September 2024 in hopes of making a big splash at only the second World Cup on home soil. The move paid off in the early rounds, with the U.S. public jumping on the bandwagon for an engaging and entertaining team. The USMNT won its group for the first time since 2010, then beat Bosnia and Herzegovina for its second-ever knockout win. Its 10 goals was the most at the World Cup for a USMNT."The magic thing that happened to the World Cup and the connection with the people, with the organization, was a key point to make that decision," Pochettino said. But the Americans imploded in the round of 16 against Belgium, the 4-1 loss to the Red Devils its worst at the World Cup in 20 years. With a full World Cup cycle in front of him, Pochettino hopes to build a team that can handle that level of pressure. "The vision ... for the future demands us to have different approach and to set a different principle," Pochettino said. "That is why we were working in the last few week and try to reveal our way in all different areas and to try to provide better quality, better capacity, better knowledge, better in every single aspect, add different quality to the new organization. "We need to start from zero, our relationship from now to the goal, that is going to be the next World Cup."Though Pochettino's main responsibility will be the USMNT, he also will have a hand in the national team pipeline, youth soccer system and coaching education. One of his priorities will be bringing in younger players and making clear his expectations from the start. Pochettino and his staff didn't have the luxury of time after coming on board less than two years before this last World Cup. Though he made strides in changing both the culture and the playing style, there were some things he could not change. Now, he can. "The good things is that we have the experience and then the knowledge about all the players that were working with us. And of course now (we can) open the pool to bring player that they were playing the last year or now they are playing more in the MLS," he said. "But also for players that maybe we didn't have time to assess during that process that was very compact and very short period ... (it's) nice to give the possibility to perform and to be part of the important of that next process."Unlike this last World Cup, the USMNT will have to qualify for the 2030 tournament. The U.S. is also expected to serve as host of the 2028 Copa America, as well as the Gold Cup in 2027 and 2029."We need to start from the day one thinking is that we are going to play World Cup games," he said. He was highly successful as a club coach, leading Tottenham to its first-ever Champions League final and winning a French league title with Paris Saint-Germain, and spoke fondly of returning to Europe. Despite talks with AC Milanabout its vacancy in the spring, Pochettino said during the World Cup that helping change soccer's place in the United States appealed to him. He confirmed after the World Cup that he'd been offered a new contract, and he and the federation have spent the last few weeks finalizing the details.
