Its the last chance for clubs around the league, and for Brian Cashman and the Yankees, to load up for a playoff push.Though this deadline season took a while to heat up, we at last saw some marquee names exchanged this weekend. Yesterday, Freddy Peralta went to the Rays, Kevin Gausman went to the Cubs, and the Yankees made a major move with the acquisition of slugger Luis Garca Jr. Of course, the biggest news was the Dodgers addition of Tarik Skubal late Saturday night, a move that was expected by many but is still earth-shaking in its impact on the pennant race.The Yankees laid in wait for some time leading up to the deadline, but after dealing Camilo Doval to the Pirates for prospects and then shipping out prospects for Garca, theyre out of the shadows and moving actively. Will they stay active on deadline day? Follow along with us as we keep you updated with every move and rumor from across the league all day.Rumors of the Day (August 3)5:40 PM EST: The Blue Jays continue their buy-and-sell deadline strategy, sending Jeff Hoffman to the Twins (whod have thought four months ago that the Twins would be buying from the Blue Jays?). Hoffman got off to a dreadful start but has been lights over the last couple of months, potentially giving Minnesota a high-upside high-leverage arm. 5:30 PM EST: The Nationals have been a nice story this year, but theyve faded a bit in recent weeks and have taken to selling at the deadline. Over the weekend, they sent Luis Garca Jr. to the Yankees, and today they sent All-Star pitcher Foster Griffin to the Guardians. Cleveland has largely been quiet to this point, but they add a top lefty to their rotation, Griffin with a 3.06 ERA on the year.5:20 PM EST: In AL East news, the Red Sox have dumped former top prospect Marcelo Meyer on the Giants for reliever Erik Miller. Once a consensus top-20 prospect in the sport, the young infielder has been often hurt and always ineffective when healthy. Boston cuts bait and adds the solid Miller, a 28-year-old lefty with a 2.76 ERA to his name this year.5:10 PM EST: Jeff Passan reports that the Yankees are finalizing a deal that will bring Heliot Ramos from the Giants, and that if the medicals clear, Ramos will be a Yankee.5:00 PM EST:Ken Rosenthal has delivered us some real news: the Yankees are working on acquiring outfielder Heliot Ramos from the Giants. The 26-year-old has been a productive hitter for San Francisco, putting together a 113 OPS+ over the last three years combined, and hes far from just a rental, as a prime-aged player just entering his arbitration years. This is an interesting development, so stay tuned. 4:55 PM EST: Weve had vanishingly few rumors about the Yankees themselves today, so heres a rare one: Joel Sherman reports the Yankees are seen as less and less likely to acquire a catcher today. I cant imagine fans will be thrilled to hear of this possibility. That said, if they can make it out of here picking up a relief arm and a right-handed bat to go with the acquisition of Luis Garca Jr., that could make for a fine deadline, but well see.4:45 PM EST: The Cubs are picking up two pieces from the Mets, as according to Jon Heyman New York is sending Tyrone Taylor and Clay Holmes to Chicago. Thats a nice deadline haul for the Cubs, who have added Braxton Garrett and Ryan Zeferjahn today on top of Taylor and Holmes.4:10 PM EST: Jeff Passan reports that the Astros are finalizing a deal to acquire outfielder Daulton Varsho from the Blue Jays. An impending free agent, Varsho gives Houston a left-handed hitter who provides a lot of value on the outfield grass. The Astros looked like they were fading away early this year, but suddenly, theyre buyers at the deadline and in first place in the AL West. The Jays, meanwhile, now have moved two rentals in Varsho and Kevin Gausman, but have also added multiple players for the future in Josh Smith and Jose Soriano.3:45 PM EST: The Cubs made another addition to their pitching staff, picking up right-handed reliever Ryan Zeferjahn from the Angels. Zeferjahn has an interesting fastball/sweeper combo and has posted a 3.66 ERA on the year. Well see if thatll do it from the Angels, who have moved Zeferjahn, Jose Soriano, Brent Suter, and Jo Adell, but still have some other big trade chips left (see: Zack Neto and Reid Detmers).3:15 PM EST: A pair of starting pitching moves: Dustin May goes to the Brewers, and the Cubs grab Braxton Garrett. May had been lined up to start for the Cardinals against the Yankees this week. Instead, hell try to bolster Milwaukees rotation, while Garrett, whos mostly spent the season in Triple-A, will augment a shaky Cubs staff.3:05 PM EST: Cross another relief arm off the list: Luke Weaver is reportedly headed to the Pirates. There never seemed to be too much traction on a deal between crosstown rivals, but a reunion with Weaver and the Yankees wouldve made some sense. Instead, the Pirates pick up an arm as they try to make a playoff push, and the Mets continue to strip themselves for parts. 2:45 PM EST: The deed is done. The Orioles have traded Rutschman to the Red Sox, per Jeff Passan (old friend Carlos Narvez is apparently involved in this, as is pitching prospect Anthony Eyanson). On the bright (?) side, the Yankees officially optioned Max Schuemann to make room for Luis Garca Jr., and they revealed that he will be wearing No. 26, the first Yankee since DJ LeMahieu! And Kervin Castro is back in the Yankees bullpen!!! This is all great. Its great. Its even.2:15 PM EST: The Dodgers arent done adding pitching, and theyve gone with an old standby: the injury-ridded option. Kris Bubic is coming over from the Royals for righty Carlos Duran, per Mark Feinsand. The 2018 first-round pick broke out with an All-Star 2025 but is just never healthy. Even that year, he made just 20 starts. He has 213 total innings to his name since the end of 2022. Bubic is even on the IL right now with shoulder issues! But sure, the Dodgers can throw him in their shed of possible arms.2:10 PM EST: This is almost already old rumor news at this point, but the Yankees discussions with the Orioles about Rutschman evidently included Elmer Rodrguez per Joel Sherman. Theres no word either way but hopefully the issue was on the Orioles end and not the Yankees prospect-clutching Elmer. My guess is probably not, but still. Anyway, the catching pivot may now just be the Reds Tyler Stephenson. Exciting, huh?2:00 PM EST: Its a double-batch of trades reported at the same time at two oclock. Figures. More relevant of the two: the Rays are getting a big boost behind the plate while the Yankees still dont have an answer beyond Austin Wells. Jeff Passan says that theyve arranged an all-Florida swap with the Marlins for Liam Hicks, who has broken out with 2.5 rWAR and a 124 OPS+ in 101 games. Hes 27 but is under team control through 2030. Ack. 2023 first-round pick Brayden Taylor is among the three players going to Miami per Will Salmon Sammon. Ack. The other trade of the moment has the Giants sending Robbie Ray to the Padres, to which we say alrighty then. You do you, Preller.1:50 PM EST: Perhaps take it with a grain of salt, but Bob Nightengale reports that the expectation is that Tigers starter Casey Mize will be moved before the deadline, and that the Diamondbacks are among the teams interested. Whether the Tigers would go into full sell mode after dealing Tarik Skubal has been a major topic of conversation in the last two days, and so far, theyve yet to trade off anyone other than their ace.1:40 PM EST: Another interesting trade, with the Rangers sending infielder Josh Smith to the Blue Jays. You may remember Smith as a former Yankee farmhand that was traded to Texas as part of the Joey Gallo move (alongside fellow infielder Ezequiel Duran). Smith has struggled in 2026 but the move is still intriguing from Torontos perspective; Smith has two more years of arbitration remaining, as it appears the Blue Jays are actively moving now to try and add for the 2027 season and beyond.1:00 PM EST:Buster Olney is reporting that the Red Sox and Orioles have a deal in place for Adley Rutschman but that nothing has been agreed to. In Olneys words, the Red Sox just need to say yay or nay. 12:50 PM EST: A minor trade to note, with the Rockies trading center fielder Brenton Doyle to the White Sox. Once one of the best defensive outfielders in the game, the 28-year-old has struggled with injuries and ineffectiveness the last two seasons. Still, its notable to see the White Sox, enjoying a surprisingly strong year, continue to add at the deadline. 12:20 PM EST: And another possible Yankees target goes, as Jeff Passan reports that Orioles outfielder Taylor Ward is headed to Seattle. This one stings a bit, as Ward has a well above average bat and would have fit snugly in the Yankee lineup both as a holdover until Cody Bellinger and Aaron Judge (hopefully) return, and as a quality right-handed option even after the Yankees get healthier. 12:15 PM EST: It looks like weve got a former potential Yankees target thats gone off the board, as Jon Heyman is reporting that Jo Adell has been traded to the Guardians. The Yankees were never that seriously linked to Adell, but he made some sense as a right-handed bat who could start in a corner. 12:00 PM EST: Theres a lot of smoke surrounding Adley Rutschman right now, and not in a way that Yankees fans are going to like to hear. Multiple reports have surfaced linking the Red Sox to the Orioles catcher, with Joel Sherman saying that the Red Sox are working hard to acquire Rutschman.11:45 AM EST: A couple of minor deals to note: the Dodgers acquired catcher Ben Rortvedt from the Mets for pitcher Chayce McDermott, and the Braves grabbed reliever Brent Suter from the Angels for infielder Nacho Alvarez Jr.11:25 AM EST: Everything must go for the Mets, and theyre getting bites on pitcher Clay Holmes, with reports indicating the Brewers are in the market for Holmes services. Holmes has been very effective as a starter when healthy for the Mets but has had issues staying on the field, recently making a rehab start in his recovery from a leg fracture suffered pitching against the Yankees.11:10 AM EST: The Yankees did not offer Will Warren for Padres reliever Adrian Morejon, at least according to Mark Feinsand. This has been a subject of some debate in the rumor-sphere, with some reporting that the Yankees offered the starter Warren for Morejon. Just based on how Brian Cashman and the Yankees typically value players, color me very surprised if they actually offered Warren as the main piece in a deal in which a rental reliever was the primary player coming back. Still, Heyman posits that Warren-for-Morejon was at least discussed.11:00 AM EST: The Rangers are open for business. Jon Heyman reports that teams have been discussing pitchers Nathan Eovaldi, Mackenzie Gore, and Jacob Latz. Texas looked like they would be adding at the deadline when they traded for Chase Silseth and Logan OHoppe last week, but a recent downturn has left them below .500 and contemplating selling. 11:00 AM EST: Joel Sherman reports that the Padres are looking to add a starting pitcher today, and that Robbie Ray of the Giants is a possibility. After days of rumors surrounding players like Mason Miller and Adrian Morejon, it looks like San Diego may actually go in the other direction and buy at the deadline.10:45 AM EST: The catching position is obviously one of interest for the Yankees, but its unclear what the catching market looks like, even at this late stage. Jon Heyman notes that the Mets dont intend to move right-handed catcher Luis Torrens, a former baby bomber. Joel Sherman adds that Adley Rutschman is a player of great interest to the Yankees, and surely other teams.9:50 AM EST: Its an active morning for Dave Dombrowski, as the Phillies follow up their acquisition of Luis Arraez with the addition of reliever Brooks Raley from the Mets. The 38-year-old lefty has been stellar in New York this year, running a 1.96 ERA in 41.1 innings. In a matter of minutes, the Phillies have added a quality bat and two relief arms. 9:45 AM EST: Another significant trade has hit the wire, the Giants agreeing to send second baseman Luis Arraez to the Phillies. Philadelphia has limited prospect capital to spend, but it was always going to be tough for Dave Dombrowski to completely sit this one out. The Phillies now have a big upgrade for their infield, the impending free agent Arraez hitting .324 in a resurgent season, while the also-ran Giants continue to sell off pieces. Also headed to Philly in the deal is reliever Caleb Kilian, who could improve a shaky Phillies bullpen. The Phillies no. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline Ramon Marquez goes to San Francisco, along with righty Marty Gair.9:30 AM EST: We have a major trade! The Blue Jays have acquired Angels starter Jose Soriano reports Jeff Passan. No one expected the reigning AL champs to buy, not with Toronto mired in the middle of a miserable season, but Soriano makes more sense for a team thats likely aiming for a rebound next year; the 27-year-old right-hander has two seasons of arbitration remaining. Minor leaguers Eddie Mitchelettiand Angel Rivero are part of the return for the Angels, but the main piece is 20-year-old shortstop Arjun Nimmala, likely the best prospect Toronto had to offer.9:00 AM EST: The Yankees and Padres were mixed up in rumors regarding reliever Adrian Morejon last night, but it appears that San Diego is leaning towards keeping their top arms, including Morejon and Mason Miller. Never say never when it comes to the Padres and AJ Preller, but if anything, it seems like San Diego will be more likely to buy than sell. 9:00 AM EST: After dealing Tarik Skubal, Casey Mize would seem to be the next domino to fall in Detroit, though its unclear whether the Tigers are going to go full fire sale, still just 2.5 games out of a playoff spot in a middling American League. The former top overall pick Mize will be a free agent after this season and has a 2.70 ERA on the year, making him an enviable potential rental for many teams, but the Tigers may end up holding if they want to try and make a late playoff push.9:00 AM EST: The Mets continued their sell-off early this morning, sending reliever Huascar Brazobnover to the White Sox in exchange for minor league pitchers Gabe Davis and Zach Franklin. The Yankees crosstown rivals have been active sellers this deadline, and we can expect even more moves out of Queens today as the Mets trudge through another lost season.

The Denver Broncos resumed training camp on Monday with Day 3 of full-speed practice with about 1,000 fans in attendance at Broncos Park Powered by CommonSpirit. It marked the team's first padded practice of the summer."First day back off the day off," coach Sean Payton said after practice. "Pads were on, it was good. Im anxious to see the tape of some of these periods.The biggest storyline of the day was starting center Luke Wattenberg going down during aone-on-one drilland not returning to practice. Alex Forsythfilled in at centerafter Wattenberg left practice.Fortunately, Denver coach Sean Payton provided an encouraging update after practice. "Well go ahead and evaluate," Payton said. "I think hell be fine.Forsyth has started six games as an injury fill-in during his career, and he performed well. Having a backup of his quality is a big plus for the Broncos. "Hes super savvy and smart," Payton said of Forsyth. "Hes one of the smarter guys in that room. You dont feel a young player. You feel like, if you interviewed him, youd feel like youre talking to a seven-year vet. Hes a little bit of an old soul that way and much appreciated though. Hes really talented.Here are a few other quick takeaways from Monday's session. 5 takeaways from Day 3 of Broncos camp 1. Broncos injury report: Wattenberg wasn't the only player with an injury update on Monday. Outside linebacker Dondrea Tillman (hamstring) workedon a side field,and tight end Caleb Lohner (knee) remains sidelined. The good news: pass rusher Drew Sanders (undisclosed) and rookie wide receiver Joseph Manjack (back) bothreturned to practice. Payton was asked after practice if he's concerned about Lohner missing so much time, and he said he's always concerned, especially when it's a younger player missing practice. The coach also highlighted Lohner's work before the injury. I do know this, I do know what I was seeing before his injury and the work hes put in," Payton said. "Its interesting, when you draft someone like that, you really dont know the temperament because you havent seen enough film, and he in his first year showed us that.2. Pat Bryant might be the favorite for WR3 role: It's still early, and Payton insists that the Broncos don't have traditional WR1, WR2 and WR3 designations, but Bryant seems to be trending toward unofficial WR3 duties. Courtland Sutton and Jaylen Waddle are the obvious top two receivers, and Bryant has been among the standouts early in camp. "He has some of the better hands in traffic with his feet on the ground, hes really good [at] run after the catch," Payton said of the second-year receiver. "I said this to you guys a year ago, hes real smart. So hes someone that can move from X to the slot. Itll be easy creating his role.3. Riley Moss holding down CB2 job: Moss had another strong practice, with his highlights including beating Courtland Sutton for a 50-50 ball to secure an interception. "He competes his tail off," Payton said of Moss. "I love that about him. He has those traits where its a short mindset, short memory. Hes moving around really well right now. With Moss playing well on the outside across from Pat Surtain and Ja'Quan McMillian continuing to perform in the slot, there doesn't seem to be an obvious starting role for second-year cornerback Jahdae Barron this fall.4. Jahdae Barron is not moving to safety: With limited playing time at cornerback, Barron has been suggested as a potential safety candidate (and there was apparently an inaccurate report that he was getting reps there). Payton shot that notion down after Monday's practice. "He's doing good," Payton said. "I read somewhere we moved him to safety. ... I'm not he's playing nickel. He's playing corner. And then we get into dime, he replaces the linebacker. So he's doing really good. There's been no position change." 5. Broncos aren't rushing to sign Taysom Hill, but...: After the do-everything tight end announced he won't return to the New Orleans Saints in 2026, it was easy to connect the dots for a potential reunion with Payton. The coach told NFL Network on Saturday that the team will explore bringing Hill in, but he indicated after Monday's practice that nothing is imminent. "There's no hurry right now, I'm going to see him here in five days [at Drew Brees' Hall of Fame ceremony], so... we'll see where he's at and kind of go from there," Payton said. The coach also noted that he'll check in on Hill's health and where he's at mentally. "I don't want to assume that he still wants to play," Payton said. "You know, I haven't had a chance to talk with him ... we'll see where that goes." Those comments certainly seem to suggest that if he wants to continue playing, Payton could find a spot for him with the Broncos.Denver's scheduled to hold six consecutive practices this week. Payton will miss Saturday's practice to attend Brees' induction into the Hall of Fame. Such is the case for head coach Klint Kubiak and his Las Vegas Raiders as the team continues its journey through training camp. The hotshot offensive-minded 39-year-old is the man leading the Silver & Black into the 2026 campaign and things are equal parts excitement and hope. So far, Raiders players have talked about a new sense of urgency and energy permeating throughout team facilities as the the Kubiak regime picked by general manager John Spytek and minority owner Tom Brady is going through the meticulous process of not only changing a culture, but creating one thats keen on attention to detail. The get the small things right and big things happen philosophy is a shared one across all three aspects of the game: Offense, defense, and special teams. This past weekend marked the fifth practice of training camp and Kubiaks assessment of the teams 90-man roster was only apt. Yeah, the guys that like arent an established guy, which is probably 90 percent of the team, in order for them to make the roster its special teams and playing multiple positions, Las Vegas head coach said after this past Fridays team session. Receivers that can play all three, fullbacks that can play tight end and vice versa, DBs that can play corner, nickel and safety, so thats how you make the roster in the NFL.One of the roster hopefuls: Defensive tackle JJ Pegues. The sixth-round pick (180th overall) in the 2025 NFL Draft heads into Year 2 with the Raiders after a rookie season that saw the Ole Miss product play in nine games and notching 11 total tackles (one for loss) and a fumble recovery on 137 defensive snaps (21 special teams snaps). The 24-year-old has ideal size at 6-foot-2 and 325 pounds and theres a wide open competition at nose tackle a spot where Pegues build would be an asset. And thats where the Year 2 bar starts for the Mississippi native. Lining up directly over the opposing center, the nose (or zero technique) controls both A-gaps, absorbs multiple blockers, and has the strength to not only anchor but move blockers to stop the run up the middle to free up their fellow defenders to make plays. The frontrunners early in camp are veterans Benito Jones (6-foot-1 and 335 pounds) and Adam Butler (6-foot-4 and 301 pounds). Of that duo, the 28-year-old Jones has the squatty build and experience to be in immovable anchor in the middle with Miami and Detroit, while the 32-year-old Butler, more of a penetrating-type, has played directly over the center during his stops in New England, Miami, and in Las Vegas. In the mix are Pegues, 2026 seventh-round pick (229th overall) Brandon Cleveland (6-foot-4 and 315 pounds) and undrafted free agent Gary Smith III (6-foot-1 and 319 pounds) from UCLA. Pegues showed glimpses of being able to anchor while flashing impressive power during preseason last year but couldnt carve out substantial defensive snaps under then-head coach Pete Carrolls coaching staff. One of those being Leonard, who served as defensive line coach and defensive run game coordinator for Carroll before impressing Kubiak in his interview for the defensive coordinator role and getting the nods. Pegues needs to put together a strong camp and preseason showing hes a capable option as the nose tackle or depth at the position. Hes got the skillset to be a two-gap (run stopper) and one-gap (penetrator) nose tackle and the mass to attract plenty of attention. And both youth and cheap cost rookie deal (four-year, $4.467-plus million) are in Pegues favor. Thats resulted in teams being in big nickel formations where a trio of safeties are on the field or more defensive backs with the defensive line being a hybrid of four-down, three-down, or even five-down linemen at the line of scrimmage. By showcasing the ability to penetrate as a nose tackle in odd or even fronts, Pegues increases his roster chances and value with versatility. Pegues providing an anchor and rusher in odd and even fronts makes him an indispensable commodity, but itll be easier said than done as a late-round pick with talent and potential. Las Vegas was without a true nose tackle in 2025 with players rotating trying to fill the spot but this offseason, theres healthy competition. However, Leonard is no stranger to have a nose tackle-type on his defensive line as big John Jenkins (6-foot-3 and 360 pounds) filled that role in former defensive boss Patrick Grahams four-down fronts. The Philadelphia Phillies have one too many infieldersfollowing Mondays acquisition of second baseman Luis Arrez from the San Francisco Giants. So Bryce Harpers moving back to a familiar spot. Manager Don Mattingly told reporters Monday that Harper will move from first base back to his former position in right field to make room for Arrez. Alec Bohm will move from third base to first, Bryson Stott will move from second base to third and Arrez will slot in at second base for his Phillies debut on Tuesday. Trea Turner, whos in the midst of the worst defensive campaign of his career, is the only Phillies infielder staying put. Hell remain at shortstop. Tommy John forced Harper from RF to 1BHarper, 33, played the first 11 seasons of his MLB career primarily in the outfield. He underwent offseason Tommy John surgery after the 2022 season and has played at first base or designated hitter since. Harpers throwing arm is apparently in good enough shape for him to move back to the outfield, and, per Mattingly, he volunteered to move back to right field to make room for Arrez. Mattingly credited Harpers willingness to change positions as key to the Arrez trade.Harp had already kind of talked we had to make sure Harp was serious about playing the outfield, Mattingly said. I think that was kind of the key to doing anything.Mattingly told reporters that Harper would ease back into the outfield. What that means in practice isnt clear. Trea Turner staying at SS despite strugglesPer Mattingly, there were zero conversations about moving Turner from his position at shortstop. Turners struggled in the field this season with 18 errors in 106 games, the second most in baseball as of Monday. Hes on pace to easily surpass his career high of 23 errors in a full season set in 2023, when he led MLB in errors. And hes gotten away with several botched plays that could have been ruled errors, most notably in a July 20 game against the Los Angeles Dodgers when only one of his four miscues in the field was ruled an error by the official scorer in Philadelphia. Fortunately for Turner and the Phillies that night, he made up for it at the plate with two home runs to lead Philadelphia to a 10-7 win.Turners track record doesnt suggest a turnaround on defense. Maybe the Phillies decided it was best to keep him where he is than have him struggle to learn a new position late in the season.

(AP) Major League Soccer is investigating reported antisemitic and discriminatory language from fans directed at New England Revolution striker Dor Turgeman during their game against CF Montreal, the league said Monday.The Revolution said in a statement that the Israeli forward was subjected to verbal abuse on Saturday after Turgeman scored a goal in the 35th minute of a 2-2 draw in Montreal. "The club immediately reported the incident to Major League Soccer and has fully supported the investigation," the Revolution's statement said. We appreciate MLS swift response and commitment to addressing incidents of discrimination. We are hopeful that those responsible will be held accountable for their unacceptable actions.In a statement Sunday, Montreal said that it had been in contact with the league and the Revolution and vowed to look into it and take the necessary actions. Video of Turgeman's goal showed him reacting to the crowd by putting his hand to his ear as he celebrated alongside teammates. Other reports from those in attendance claimed that there were chants from the crowd that included "Death to Israel," among other things. Auburn football seniors Byrum Brown and Jeremiah Cobb have been named on the 2026 Maxwell Award preseason watchlist going into the upcoming college football season.The Maxwell is given to the overall most outstanding player in college football. The last two winners were Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza (2025) and running back Ashton Jeanty (2024). It is open to any position, but it is typically given to quarterbacks and running backs.For the Tigers, senior quarterback Byrum Brown and senior running back Jeremiah Cobb make this year's preseason watchlist. Brown, coming off a year with 42 total touchdowns, is expected to be a big reason why the Tigers win games this season. Especially with the transition alongside head coach and play-caller Alex Golesh and a handful of his receiving corps from South Florida.Now Cobb gets to come into the season with the starting job in hand. Last season, Damari Alston was named the starter going into the season before dealing with an injury, which led to Cobb taking the starting role.
