Done Since the Weekend: Conflicting Reports Emerge Amid Bruno-Arsenal Transfer Saga

Bruno Andrade (@ESPNBrasil): Bruno Guimares has been a done deal for Arsenal since the weekend. I know a lot of people are reporting different information, but I trust the people Ive spoken to. The key part of the agreement the 80m package has already been agreed. pic.twitter.com/KBzwcqaOLV afcstuff (@afcstuff) August 3, 2026Bruno Guimaraes has been a done deal for Arsenal since the weekend, Andrade said. I know a lot of people are reporting different information, but I trust the people Ive spoken to. The key part of the agreement the 80m package has already been agreed. The ESPN Brasil reporter also claimed the reaction inside Newcastle was prompted by news of the agreement becoming public, in an attempt to control the situation and dictate the tempo. What I heard earlier today is that Newcastle were furious that news of the agreement had leaked, Andrade said. They decided to drag things out a little, NOT over the money, because that part is completely settled. Its much more about the timing of the announcement. The original plan was to do everything together, there simply wasnt enough time to make that happen. Guimaraes is done, completely done. He is Arsenals new signing. @JacobsBen: Bruno Guimares Newcastles perspective is that theyve rejected a formal offer below their valuation Arsenals perspective is theyre finalising the deal. I sense this is going to get done & get agreed relatively quickly now.Arsenal may have to make one pic.twitter.com/yFdHwBXQl1 afcstuff (@afcstuff) August 3, 2026Those claims contrast with reports from Sky Sports, the i Paper and Chronicle Live that Newcastle rejected Arsenals opening offer on Monday, with the Magpies still seeking a package worth more than 80 million. However, Sky Sports Keith Downie confirmed Arsenal and Newcastle remain in direct talks, while talkSPORTs Ben Jacobs said he expects the move to be finalized quickly.Newcastles perspective is that theyve rejected a formal offer below their valuation Arsenals perspective is theyre finalising the deal, Jacobs reported. I sense this is going to get done & get agreed relatively quickly now.I fully expect Bruno Guimaraes to be an Arsenal player sooner rather than later, Jacobs said. I sense Newcastle also want quick clarity and thats why my anticipation is that Arsenal are confident. I think the general package will be in and around 80m. @JacobsBen: Bruno Guimares Newcastles perspective is that theyve rejected a formal offer below their valuation Arsenals perspective is theyre finalising the deal. I sense this is going to get done & get agreed relatively quickly now.Arsenal may have to make one pic.twitter.com/yFdHwBXQl1 afcstuff (@afcstuff) August 3, 2026Guimaraes reported to Newcastles preseason training camp in La Manga on Monday as planned following his extended World Cup break. Newcastle has maintained the Brazilian complied with his agreed travel schedule, while multiple outlets report Arsenal is expected to return with an improved offer after its opening bid was rejected. At the end of the day, considering Ryder last reported that Arsenal placed a 75m bid for Brunos services, it looks like the Chronicle Live pundit is just one step behind Andrade, and he will just report the already-done deal a few days after ESPN did last weekend, when he finally gets the final information from Newcastle about the definitive 80 million bid.

Bill Simmons says one city should have their NBA franchise taken away because it has never worked
Photo by Rebecca Sapp/Getty Images for The Recording AcademyBill Simmons thinks one city should no longer have an NBA team because people living there do not care about basketball. There has been a lot of talk recently about the Portland Trail Blazers possibly moving cities due to owner Tom Dundons complaints and the NBA expanding to add two new franchises in two different cities. But if any city had to lose their NBA team to help expand the league further, Bill Simmons has one city in mind as a possible candidate.Photo by Tyler Kaufman/Getty ImagesBill Simmons urges NBA to take move Pelicans out of New OrleansSpeaking on his podcast, NBA analyst Bill Simmons explained why he doesnt defend the city of New Orleans having an NBA franchise as he has for the Portland Trail Blazers.Simmons noted that no franchise has found success in New Orleans dating back almost 50 years, and believes the city doesnt have an ingrained basketball culture tying it to a franchise.Ive had people ask me the last couple of weeks, Well, why dont you stick up for New Orleans the same way? I think the difference is that we still dont have evidence that the NBA works in New Orleans. You can blame the owners, you can blame the city, its not a big enough market, whatever you want to say.Its never worked despite the fact that they have a good handful, maybe a thousand fans. I dont think a franchise has ever been successful there, and were going back to the 70s There is nothing you can point to and say, See, for those three years, thats when it was kicking a.Its just never worked, and Im not sure they should have an NBA team. I feel way differently about Portland. Even Memphis, if youre doing this all over again, that team is in Nashville. But Memphis have proven that they can be a really awesome small market franchise and that team is ingrained with that city in a really unique way. I wont say they should move either. New Orleans would be the one you have to look at, unfortunately.New Orleans have had a strange history with NBA franchisesThe city of New Orleans has ties to three different NBA franchises across their history, the most alongside perhaps Los Angeles.New Orleans first NBA team was the Jazz, who played in the city for five years between 1974 and 1979, before the franchise was moved to Utah. The city would wait 23 years before getting a new franchise, as the Charlotte Hornets relocated to New Orleans ahead of the 2002-03 NBA season.Due to the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina, the franchise was temporarily moved to Oklahoma City, where they played as the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets. In 2013, the New Orleans Hornets were rebranded to the New Orleans Pelicans, allowing the Charlotte Bobcats to return to the Hornets name, along with the franchises historic accolades over the years.Despite having three separate NBA franchises represent their city, New Orleans has never had an NBA team advance to a conference finals while representing them.Read more:Dominik Mysterio speaks out on being chokeslammed by New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony TownsJackson Koivun reveals what Steph Curry told him in phone call after he won on the PGA Tour for the first timeHow much LA Clippers were willing to offer LeBron James to join in free agency

Roma awaiting Feyenoord’s final answer for Read
Roma awaiting Feyenoords final answer for ReadGivairo Read remains Romas top target to strengthen their right flank. Tony DAmico wants to speed up the process and try to close the deal in the next few hours, so as to provide Gian Piero Gasperini with another signing during his training camp in Wales. An agreement has already been reached with the player, reports Il Messaggero. A five-year contract worth 2.5 million per season is on the table, and the 2006-born player has indicated Roma as his first choice. Competition from Nottingham Forest also appears to have cooled in recent hours. The obstacle remains Feyenoord. The Dutch club rejected the Giallorossis initial offer of 23 million plus 2 million in bonuses, deeming it insufficient compared to the 30 million valuation set for the full-back. Roma, however, hasnt given up and has relaunched with a new offer of 25 million plus 3 million in bonuses. At the moment, the Giallorossi dont appear willing to go any further, hoping that this final push will be enough to reach a definitive agreement.

This is it, Liverpool have found their super talent to replace Fabinho
This is it, Liverpool have found their super talent to replace FabinhoLiverpool's Fabinho heir is already here and they can sign him with the perfect transfer. Liverpool's midfield remains one of the biggest question marks heading into the new season. While there is no shortage of technical quality, there are growing doubts over whether the current group is the right fit for Andoni Iraola's demanding style of football. The uncertainty starts with the personnel.Curtis Jones has entered the final year of his contract and his future looks increasingly unclear, with Inter Milan continuing to be linked with a move. Alexis Mac Allister is another player whose long-term future remains unresolved as contract talks continue to drag on. Even if both stay beyond this summer, Liverpool may still need reinforcements.Iraola's football is built on intensity. His midfielders are expected to press relentlessly, cover huge distances and transition quickly from defence to attack. Liverpool have players who can control possession, but there is a strong argument that they need more athleticism and physicality in the middle of the park.Dominik Szoboszlai looks perfectly suited to those demands. His energy, work rate and ability to drive forward make him an ideal fit for Iraola's system, while Ryan Gravenberch also has the athletic profile to thrive if he continues his development. Beyond that, though, there are plenty of questions.Depth is another concern. Liverpool need competition for places, especially with a long season ahead and the demands of playing in multiple competitions. Relying on the same group week after week would be a risky approach given the intensity Iraola expects from his players. The transfer window is therefore far from finished for Liverpool. Strengthening the midfield should be one of the club's top priorities over the coming weeks. Whether that means replacing players who leave or simply bringing in profiles that better suit the new manager, it is clear there is still work to do.In terms of the blueprint of who Liverpool should be looking to sign to bolster their midfield - it's Fabinho. The Brazilian was one of the most influential figures in the club's modern success, anchoring the midfield with intelligence, composure, and relentless defensive work.At his peak, he brought a sense of control that allowed the rest of the team to flourish. Whether it was breaking up opposition attacks, reading danger before it developed, or stepping in to win crucial duels, Fabinho made the role look effortless. His positional awareness was arguably his greatest strength. He seemed to always be in the right place at the right time, shielding the back line and cutting passing lanes with precision. In one-on-one battles, he was dominant - using his reach and timing to regain possession and immediately reset Liverpools rhythm. That ability to control the middle of the pitch was a cornerstone of the side under Jurgen Klopp.Since his departure in 2023, Liverpool have struggled to truly replace him. While new midfield additions have brought energy and technical quality, none have replicated Fabinhos unique blend of defensive discipline and authority, his absence is still felt today.Well, Liverpool's solution could now be here at last though, and it's through a player who we already know.Trey Nyoni has finally arrived this summer as a genuine contender for a starting spot next season as someone who could finally replace Fabinho. It has felt like Nyoni has been on the verge of breaking through for a while now. After years of impressing at academy level and showing flashes with the first team, the 19-year-old finally looks ready to make that leap.Pre-season has only strengthened that feeling.Against Sunderland, Nyoni was outstanding during his 45 minutes on the pitch. He created more chances than anyone else (three), won more tackles than any other player (three) and played a key role in Liverpool scoring three first-half goals. He followed that up with another impressive display against Wrexham, completing more passes than anyone else (59) while also making the most passes into the final third (eight) before the break. Then he did it all over again against Leeds United. Once again, Nyoni topped the passing charts in the first half with 40 completed passes and, once again, no player made more passes into the final third than his eight. Those performances weren't a coincidence.Nyoni is a super talent and he has exactly the kind of qualities Andoni Iraola wants from his midfielders. He moves the ball quickly, plays progressive passes through the lines and is always looking to get Liverpool on the front foot. The last time Liverpool had a player like him was when Fabinho was at the club. That pass to Jeremie Frimpong for Liverpool's second goal of the game which was finished off by Florian Wirtz was also very Fabinho esque. And it's proving that Nyoni is finally ready to make the leap.
