BCCI bids farewell to Ryan ten Doeschate, T Dilip; thanks duo for Team India contributions
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has thanked assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T Dilip after their tenures with the Indian men's team came to an end, acknowledging the key role both played in the team's recent journey. In a post on X, the board praised the duo for their commitment and hard work behind the scenes, while wishing them success in the next phase of their careers. "Thank you, Assistant Coach Ryan ten Doeschate and Fielding Coach T Dilip, for your invaluable contributions to #TeamIndia. Your dedication, professionalism and tireless efforts behind the scenes have played a big role in the team's journey and success. Wishing you both every success in the next chapter of your careers," BCCI wrote. Dilip's second spell with the national side concluded after his one-year contract expired. He had initially served as India's men's fielding coach from 2021 until the end of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy before returning for the 2025 Test tour of England. However, he was not retained beyond the completion of his latest deal. Ten Doeschate also departed from the Indian set-up following the white-ball tour of England in July. The former Netherlands captain has since taken over as Kolkata Knight Riders' Head of Cricket Strategy. The 46-year-old joined India's coaching staff when Gautam Gambhir succeeded Rahul Dravid as head coach after India's victorious 2024 T20 World Cup campaign. During his time with the national team, ten Doeschate was part of the coaching group that guided India to the 2025 Asia Cup title and the successful defence of the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup crown. India's Test fortunes, however, were mixed during the same period. The side lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and also endured home series defeats against New Zealand (0-3) and South Africa (0-2). Dilip, meanwhile, oversaw a marked improvement in India's fielding standards during his tenure. One of his most popular initiatives was the 'Best Fielder of the Match' medal presentation, introduced during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. The dressing-room tradition became a fan favourite, with players including KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma among the recipients of the award.

Browns QB room blasted in new rankings by The Athletic
The national perspective on the Cleveland Browns quarterback situation remains remarkably grim heading into the 2026 season. In the latest edition of Mike Sandos annual Quarterback Tiers article for The Athletic, NFL head coaches, general managers, and coordinators pooled their candid evaluations on potential starting signal-callers. For Cleveland, the feedback could hardly be worse. Both Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders landed firmly in the basement of the league, with Sanders anchoring the list at dead last, ranked 35th out of 35 candidates. The survey paints a alarming picture of a position group that continues to drag down the organization. While Watson did not finish at the absolute bottom, his 31st overall ranking reflects an almost total loss of faith from league insiders across the board.Deshaun Watson is historically badSando noted that Watson is one of 60 quarterbacks to start at least 10 games since Cleveland acquired him in 2022, yet he ranks 59th among them in Expected Points Added (EPA) per pass playplacing him barely ahead of Zach Wilson at 60th.Evaluators around the league offered brutal assessments of Watson's decline.Youre not projecting he is going to go the whole season and be a guy at this point, are you? one general manager asked. An offensive coach went even further in questioning Watson's foundational traits.I dont think he can come back, the coach said. You do not all of a sudden get drive and desire and processing skills. He showed he had none of that with what he put on film.A former general manager admitted to being completely baffled by Watson's trajectory.I dont even know what to do with him, the former executive said. Its been so long. Its almost like a no-grade with him.The numbers paint an equally bleak narrative. Over his 19 total games in a Cleveland uniform, Watsons dropback EPA plummeted to -0.20 in 2023 and -0.30 in 2024. He completed 61.2 percent of his passes and had an 80.7 passer rating along with several single-digit QBR outings. Watson also absorbed 70 sacks for a 13 percent sack rate before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in 2024.Shedeur Sanders ranked 35th out of 35While Watsons career has stalled, Shedeur Sanders sits at the very bottom of the NFL quarterback hierarchy in Sando's project. The second-year passer came in 35th out of 35 potential starters.Sando highlighted that among the 37 quarterbacks who started at least seven games last season, Sanders ranked dead last in EPA per pass play, finishing directly behind J.J. McCarthy and Cam Ward.League evaluators pulled no punches regarding the young passer's baseline skill set.Hes inaccurate at all three levels, one executive stated. I cant tell if he is going to get better, but theres a huge gap between him and competent QB play.Opposing defensive coordinators expressed supreme confidence when preparing to face the rookie.I'd sleep like a baby if I got to play him every week, one defensive coordinator admitted.Another defensive coordinator offered a detailed breakdown of Sanders' tape from his rookie campaign.Hes not an on-time player, cant really read through the coverages, is a little bit heavy-footed, the coordinator explained. He is thicker and harder to tackle than expected, but you shouldnt lose to him.Not every voice was entirely dismissive. One head coach offered a slightly more optimistic perspective on how Cleveland handled the rookie.I thought he was all right, better than expected, the coach noted. They did a good job with him of making the game simple.Another voter, an offensive coach, pointed to Cleveland's coaching change as a potential catalyst for growth.Todd Monken is a great reset in the same way Ben Johnson was a great reset in Chicago, the offensive coach said. Shedeur gets a fresh start with a no-nonsense, offensive-oriented coach who did a really good job with Lamar Jackson. The same voter added that Sanders' future rests entirely on his preparation. If Shedeur has really invested in himself to be a professional quarterback, studying the playbook and knowing his assignments and being able to get the offense in and out of the huddle at an efficient clip, which he could not do last year, then there might be some upside, the voter said. The advanced stats from his 2025 rookie campaign underscore why consensus proved so harsh.Across eight games and 255 dropbacks, Sanders posted a Pro Football Focus grade of 44.1, an 18.9 QBR, and a 68.1 passer rating. His passing grade dropped to 39.0 under pressure. He threw for 1,400 yards with 7 touchdowns against 10 interceptions, ranking 42nd among passers with a 42.3 passing grade. He also had 10 big-time throws and 15 turnover-worthy plays, leading to a high 5.9 percent turnover-worthy play rate. For Todd Monken, the path forward in Cleveland is undeniably steep. Inheriting a quarterback room where the high-priced veteran is viewed as a shell of his former self and the second-year prospect has been branded the league's least refined potential starter presents an extraordinary. Unless Monken can engineer a dramatic turnaround in processing and mechanics for either passer, the Browns run the risk of remaining stuck in the NFL's basement at the most critical position in sports. This article originally appeared on Browns Wire: Browns QB room blasted in new rankings by The Athletic

No more Mike and Ike? Titans rookie Anthony Hill Jr. cutting candy, learning to cook
Anthony Hill Jr. is quickly learning the sacrifices needed to make it in the NFL.The Tennessee Titans rookie linebacker's latest concession? His favorite candy."I'm a big candy person, so I had to cut off the Mike and Ike's and all that stuff," Hill said after training camp practice on Aug. 4. "I cut it off and it worked. It's hard, but it's better for yourself."Speaking to the media at Vanderbilt Health Football Center, he explained his new eating habits since being selected in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Cutting back on candy, cooking his own meals and eating out less are all part of caring for his body in between practices."Just be a pro, get recovery, and do all the little stuff that helps you on the field," he said. "And it worked." Hill reported having lost six to seven pounds since changing his eating habits. Among his new favorite meals to cook are chicken fried rice, smothered chicken and beef tacos."It takes a lot of time," he said. "I don't like doing the dishes, but it's worked out." Hill, a 6-foot-2 and 238-pound middle linebacker, has a unique combination of size and speed that makes him an excellent defensive prospect. In three years for the Texas Longhorns, he had 249 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, 17 sacks and three interceptions. At practice on Aug. 4, Hill made two interceptions off quarterback Mitch Trubisky. It was one of Hill's best performances in the early days of training camp, and he can't help but wonder if cutting down candy did the trick."I like sweets, so I had to limit myself," he said. "Like maybe I (eat it) once a week, not three. Little small details like that and it worked." Colleges Are Avoiding Transparency on Jersey Patch Deals
In light of a new NCAA rule, schools nationwide are clamoring to ink lucrative jersey patch sponsorshipsdeals that have been rumored to bring them tens of millions of dollars in some cases. But schools that previously had to share sponsorship contract details due to state public records laws are keeping the specifics of these deals under wraps. In response to public records requests made by Front Office Sports, Ohio State and Kansas said they are not party to the jersey patch contracts, and therefore dont have copies at all. Instead, they say, the deals are actually between the sponsor and their multimedia rightsholders (MMR partners)the private companies that broker sponsorships and other deals for athletic departments and are not subject to public records laws.Whether intentional or not, the practice could result in less transparency about the multimillion-dollar deals that public university athletic departments strike with sponsors and other companies.University athletic departments seem to be increasingly diverting their deals through their MMR first in a way that some may say violates the spiritif not the letterof open records laws, Boise State law professor and college sports litigation expert Sam Ehrlich told FOS.State public records laws allow members of the public and the media to request copies of documents from public entitiesincluding public universities. These could be anything from email communications between employees and their employment contracts to business contracts and budgets. For example, FOS recently published a story based on public records requests divulging the cost of Illinois athletics purchase of a Daktronics jumbotron. College sports newsletter Extra Points includes a library of public records including budgets and vendor contracts, and apparel deals; newsletter FOIAball publishes issues exclusively based on information obtained through public records.Last week, Front Office Sports requested a copy of Ohio States jersey patch deal with JPMorganChase. The partnership, highly publicized by Ohio State, was rumored to be worth between $18 million and $20 million.Within minutes of sending a public records request, an Ohio State university spokesperson responded with a denial. The agreement is between Chase Bank and [MMR partner] Learfield; therefore, Ohio State has no responsive records to your request. With its denial, Ohio State implied Learfield hadnt just brokered the deal, but also that the deal itself was just between JPMorganChase and Learfield, and Ohio State wasnt involved in the agreement.Ohio State routinely provides the contract for our partnership with Learfield in response to public records requests, the university spokesperson said when asked whether this denial was the case with all sponsorship deals procured by Learfield. Contract agreements between Learfield and third-party sponsors would be with Learfield. (Learfield is one of several MMR companies in the college sports space, Playfly is another.)The University of Kansas also denied apublic records request from FOS for the athletic departments jersey patch deal with cryptocurrency company Ripple. The school also said it has determined that it possesses no records responsive to this request. The Kansas-Ripple deal was also brokered by Learfield, according to a university press release. In response to a follow-up inquiry, a Kansas university spokesperson said the patch deal was contracted through Learfield, which is Kansas Athletics multimedia rights-holdera common practice you may have encountered elsewhere.Universities can deny public records requests by claiming attorney-client privilege or by claiming athletics records arent requestable because the athletic department has spun off into a separate, private entity. But pointing to the multimedia rightsholder could be used as a way to prevent the public from seeing not just jersey patch deals, but also other types of athletic department sponsorships. As more universities do it and have success hiding records doing it, itll probably encourage more schools to structure their operations in similar ways, Ehrlich said. Ultimately we may see a whole lot of public university records shielded because of this structure.A spokesperson for Learfield declined to comment. The post Colleges Are Avoiding Transparency on Jersey Patch Deals appeared first on Front Office Sports.

Jalon Walker carted off at Falcons practice
The Falcons will be hoping for some positive news about linebacker Jalon Walker's condition on Tuesday afternoon. Walker was carted off the field during practice at training camp. Reporters at the workout said that Walker appeared to suffer a left leg injury and that other players took a knee as he was helped to the cart. Walker was a first-round pick last year and he finished his rookie season with 36 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. The Falcons drafted Walker and James Pearce in the 2025 first round to bolster their pass rush. Pearce is facing a possible suspension as a result of a domestic violence arrest this offseason, so bad news on Walker could leave the Falcons without both players for the start of the season.
