The Los Angeles Angels have designated Jorge Soler for assignment, according to multiple reports, ending his time with the club.The transaction removes Soler from their 40-man roster, and they now have seven days to either release him, trade him or place him on waivers. The move comes a day after MLB's trade deadline.Soler, 34, is a former All-Star who won World Series MVP with the Atlanta Braves in 2021. Soler hit three home runs in the series that helped propel the Braves past the Houston Astros in six games. He played two seasons with the Miami Marlins after that World Series and was named an All-Star in 2023.Soler spent the 2024 season split between the Braves and San Francisco Giants before joining the Angeles in 2024 via trade from the Braves. He's playing on the third year of a three-year, $42 million contract that he signed to join the Giants in 2024. Soler has regressed at the plate this season with a slash line of .203/.291/.273 in 86 games. He's remained productive despite his diminished hitting with 12 home runs and 49 RBI. A former full-time outfielder, Soler has played primarily this season at designated hitter. The Angels are in last place in the AL West at 43-69.Solers 215 career home runs and postseason experience could make him attractive to a contending team seeking to add depth. Whether any team thinks its worth taking on the remainder of his salary rather than wait for him to clear waivers or be released is another story.

The Cowboys went into their offseason program with a competition between Tyler Guyton and Nate Thomas for the left tackle job. The job appears about decided after one padded practice in training camp.Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said at his news conference Tuesday that the competition isn't over, but Guyton is the clear leader. Thomas had been scheduled to take first-team reps in practice Tuesday.The Cowboys started camp with the left tackle spot as the only question on offense from last season with every starter returning, and Guyton was expected to win the job.The Cowboys drafted Guyton with the 29th overall pick in 2024, 204 picks before selecting Thomas. Guyton, though, has struggled with inconsistency and injuries.He has missed nine games in two seasons.In 2025, Guytons knee injury in training camp gave Thomas reps with the first-team offense in practice. Thomas ended up making his first four career starts in 2025, but Pro Bowl left guard Tyler Smith started the final four games at left tackle when Guyton was out with a high-ankle sprain.Guyton played primarily right tackle at the University of Oklahoma.

A trade deadline acquisition that no one saw coming, Shaheed's blistering speed elevated the Seahawks' special teams to being a truly game-changing phase of Seattle's game. If Aaron Rodgers was looking a little pale before Pittsburgh's playoff loss to the Texans, it wasn't because he was about to face the best defense in the NFL.As explained by Mike Silver of The Athletic, Rodgers was sick before the 30-6 home loss to Houston in the wild-card round.I wasnt feeling good, and I actually came over to the team hotel, and they sent me home probably because I was pale and looked like shit, Rodgers told Silver on Saturday from training camp.Silver said Rodgers's symptoms included fever and vomiting. He insisted that he had recovered before kickoff.Hes definitely downplaying it, former Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith told Silver. There was never a question he was gonna play, and hes never one to complain, but he looked terrible [before the game].It's not a great look nearly six months after the game, because the Steelers didn't disclose that Rodgers had an illness.Against the Texans, Rodgers completed 17 of 33 passes for 146 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. His passer rating was a postseason career-low 50.8, with his final throw turning into a pick-six.Smith knows all too well the potential consequences of failing to disclose an illness. In 2023, Smith received a $25,000 fine (the Falcons separately had to fork over $75,000) for not disclosing that running back Bijan Robinson was ill on the morning of a game. (Robinson played in the game.)And so, in a week that has caused plenty of commotion regarding things Rodgers said publicly, what he (and, more specifically, the Steelers) failed to say before the playoff loss could cause a bit of a ruckus, as far as the league office is concerned.
