After the real-life general managers took their big swings at the MLB trade deadline, its time for Yahoo fantasy baseball managers to have their turn. The default trade deadline in Yahoo leagues occurs on Thursday August 6, which leaves managers little time to make major changes to their rosters.As was mentioned in this space earlier in July, my advice is for those with a balanced roster is to consider trading a hitter for a pitcher. We continue to see plenty of hitting talent arrive to the majors. Already this week, the Yankees promoted George Lombard Jr., the Reds called up Hector Rodrguez and the Nationals not only promoted Abimelec Ortiz but also inserted him in the two-hole of their productive lineup.The flow of intriguing hitters is unlikely to stop, and there simply isnt a comparable cohort of high-upside young arms. Additionally, while pitchers are feared during draft season due to their long-term injury risk, there are no such concerns when we are talking about less than two months of remaining action. An elite starter is incredibly valuable in the fantasy playoffs, and wise managers will pick up one more hurler who meets that description while working the waiver wire to replace the departed hitter.The final suggestion here is for managers to avoiding holding back over the next two days. If a deal feels good, make it. Unlike those who sit in the front offices in MLB cities, no one is going to lose their job if trades made on this platform backfire in spectacular fashion. Fantasy managers signed up for these leagues for entertainment and competition. And few things provide more entertainment than making a major trade.Buy LowRiley Greene, OF, Tigers: Greene has struggled in the second half, posting a .185/.281/.389 slash line. The cold stretch at an important time of the season has undoubtedly frustrated his fantasy managers, who may be willing to trade him away, given that he is widely regarded as more of a midlevel fantasy asset rather than a true star.Greenes second-half skills look great, however, including a 21.4% barrel rate, which has helped him to earn a .543 xSLG over that stretch. His luck should improve soon.Kenley Jansen, RP, Tigers: Jansen survived the trade deadline as a member of the Tigers, which is all that fantasy managers need to know before acquiring him. The veteran closer is 11 saves away from 500, and the Tigers would surely love to see Jansen reach that milestone in their uniform. The righty is having an unremarkable season (3.94 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 13 SV) and should be easy to acquire. Managers can even mention that with the trade of Tarik Skubal, there will be even fewer save opportunities for Jansen. But the guess here is that he gets virtually all of the remaining save chances, making him a viable option for those who need help in that area.Jos Soriano, SP, Blue Jays: I have plenty of faith in Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker to quickly help Soriano. The right-hander has a terrific skill set, with a slider and knuckle curve that get plenty of strikeouts and a power sinker that induces oodles of grounders. Similar to Dylan Cease, who is having a terrific season under Walkers tutelage, Soriano will take the next step as soon as he lowers his walk rate. I fully expect him to have some dominant starts down the stretch, and I will target him in 2027 drafts.Sell LowColson Montgomery, SS, White Sox: Montgomery has fallen on hard times of late, as his swing-and-miss tendencies have not been offset by making blistering contact when he finally connects. The slugger has the lowest xBA (.137) of any player in the second half, and his xSLG (.251) is fourth from the bottom. Montgomery figures to have wild fluctuations throughout his career and cannot be trusted right now by those who are gearing up for the stretch run. Managers can likely use his homer total (25, ninth in baseball) to trade him for a significant return.Buy HighJackson Merrill, OF, Padres: Merrill has crushed the baseball in the second half, recording a 93.3 mph average exit velocity and 18.9% barrel rate. The 23-year-olds excellent post-break results (.333 BA, .652 SLG) are well-supported by a .330 xBA and .691 xSLG. And Merrill has rediscovered his speed game throughout the season, compiling 22 swipes.Some managers will look at his full season stats, including a .237 average, and fail to recognize how well he has played of late. And thats where the buying opportunity lies for wise managers.Sell HighJeremy Pea, SS, Astros: Pea has been one of baseballs best hitters in the second half, batting .422 with a 1.292 OPS. And while the shortstop deserves credit for showing some strong skills over that stretch, he hasnt played as well as his production indicates. Peas second-half xSLG (.571) is 257 points lower than his actual mark. Managers who can use his season-long average (.320) and OPS (.901) to trade him for a true fantasy star should be willing to make the move.Caleb Durbin, 2B/3B, Red Sox: In deep leagues, this is a great time to trade one of baseballs hottest hitters. Not only has Durbin been terrific since the beginning of June (.298 BA, .867 OPS), but his hot stretch has been magnified by the media due to Bostons dramatic rise up the standings. Unfortunately, there have been few changes to the diminutive infielders skill set, as can be seen by his lowly second-half marks in xBA (.213) and xSLG (.253). Managers should be happy to trade Durbin for any player with the potential to remain on their roster for an extended period of time.

Darren Till and Yoel Romero have circled one anothers orbit a long time. If Tuesdays kickoff press conference was any indication, their Sept. 26 bare-knuckle showdown may very well have been worth the wait.Till and Romero went nose-to-nose for nearly four minutes in a bizarrely tense staredown at the AO Arena on Tuesday in Manchester, England, ahead of their BKFC 94 main-event bout. The two fighters, who first became rivals as UFC contenders in the mid to late 2010s, were supposed to share only a brief faceoff but ultimately refused to break eye contact despite the repeated pleas of BKFC founder David Feldman.Romero could be seen whispering to Till throughout the staredown, with Liverpools Till refusing to engage and instead intensely keeping the staring contest alive. Atlanta Falcons EDGE rusher Jalon Walker went down with an injury at Tuesdays practice. After his teammates huddled around him in support, he was taken to the locker room on a cart. The fear is that Walker has torn his ACL, per ESPNs Ian Rapoport, but the defender still needs to get an MRI on his knee. The EDGE rusher was selected 15th overall by the Falcons in the 2025 NFL Draft. As a rookie, Walker played in 15 games, starting nine of them. He finished the season with 36 total tackles, including 5.5 sacks, 9 QB hits and 2 forced fumbles. He was projected to be the starting weak-side linebacker for Atlanta under new head coach Kevin Stefanski. His 5.5 sacks from last season were the third-most on the team. If Walker is confirmed to have torn his ACL, he would miss the entirety of the 2026-2027 season. It will be tough for the Falcons to replace his production if the EDGE rusher misses the entire season. Atlanta brought in veteran linebacker Josh Woods this offseason, but the move was expected to be more for depth than for him to have a bigger role. Defensive end Cameron Thomas, who was projected to back up Walker, could get the first shot at starting. He had 2.5 sacks for the Cleveland Browns last season.

The New York Jets got a dose of bad news relating to first-round rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq. The Jets added first-round rookie Kenyon Sadiq to their injury list on Monday. According to New York head coach Aaron Glenn, Sadiq just had a "maintenance day" and the rest of the team's injuries should return soon"As I said yesterday, he's on the maintenance program. He had a little setback," Glenn said. "He'll be out a little bit. I can't tell you exactly how long." Glenn went on to add that he is "very confident" Sadiq would be back before the Jets' season opener. Sadiq had sports hernia surgery because of an injury he played through during his final college season at Oregon. The boys and girls state baseball tournaments will be pushed back again this year because the University of Minnesota has booked Williams Arena for the NCAA womens basketball tournament March 17-20, 2027.At a meeting Tuesday, the MSHSL Board of directors approved moving the 2027 girls tournament to March 24-27, and the boys tournament to March 31-April 3.The high school tournaments were rescheduled in 2026 to accommodate the NCAA womens tournament, as well, and the University of Minnesota was awarded three first-round games. The Gophers beat Green Bay and Mississippi to advance to the Sweet 16.Also Tuesday, the MSHSL director approved moving the 2026 boys and girls state cross country meets to Majestic Oaks Golf Course in Ham Lake on Saturday, Nov. 7. When you begin your college career as a five-star recruit, leading one of the Big Ten's most historic programs, it can be difficult to step back and choose something different.Yet, that's exactly what Dylan Raiola did.After two seasons at the helm for Nebraska, which ended with a brutal leg injury, Raiola entered the transfer portal, not to take a starting job, but rather to sit, watch and learn behind Dante Moore with the Oregon Ducks. Gianni Infantino has summoned senior Fifa officials to a crisis meeting in Morocco on Wednesday as he fights to save his presidency. It comes after the embattled Fifa president suffered another bruising day on Tuesday, with Fifas secretary general Mattias Grafstrom becoming the latest Infantino ally to criticise his plans to sell off commercial stakes in the World Cup and other Fifa competitions to private investors. FIFA president Gianni Infantino is under pressure after his doomed idea to sell off a part of the World Cup (PA)Grafstrom called Infantinos now abandoned World Cup sell-off plans as a sad and reproachable series of events in an internal email to Fifa staff on Tuesday, while Arsene Wenger, Fifas chief of global football development, distanced himself from the proposals and said the decision to scrap them was absolutely necessary. After Uefa declared it had lost confidence in Infantino in a scathing rebuke on Saturday, a growing list of national associations have also withdrawn support for the Fifa president. In a further twist on Wednesday, the president of the Jordan FA publicly accused Infantino of blackmail. Infantino, who has been posting messages of support from some national associations on his personal Instagram, has yet to appear publicly since Fifa announced that it was scrapping its attempts to sell off shares in the World Cup to private investors in the early hours on Saturday morning. The Swiss official, who plans to stand for re-election next March, has been in Morocco since last week, when he attended an event to celebrate the 27th anniversary of King Mohammed VIs ascension to the throne. Morocco will co-host the 2030 World Cup, along with Spain and Portugal, and wants to stage the final. As well as secretary general Grafstrom and Wenger, Infantino came under further pressure from two other senior Fifa figures last week. Infantinos senior adviser, Carlos Cordeiro, quit in protest of the World Cup sell-off proposals, before Kevin Lamour, Fifas chief operating officer, said staff had been deceived over the plans. Infantino may attempt to convince senior Fifa figures that he can guide the governing body through its latest crisis, but the attacks on his leadership and the calls for greater transparency have been unrelenting in the days since his secret World Cup sell-off plans spectacularly unravelled. Swedish official Grafstrom, who is one of Fifas top bosses, said in his email to Fifa staff while the turmoil surrounding Fifa is difficult to comprehend and accept.... individuals, unstable moments and unfortunate episodes come and go.Former Arsenal manager Wenger claimed to have no knowledge of the plans before reports of Fifa selling off stakes in its tournaments to private investors emerged in the media. Leading members of the Confederation of African Footballs (CAF) executive committee, including CAF Vice President Fouzi Lekjaa from Morocco, have affirmed their backing for Infantino.The federations of Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Sri Lanka and Indonesia have also declared continued support for Infantino, while Fifa dismissed as "pure fiction" a report that Infantino sought support from US President Donald Trump's administration to stay in power.
