Ex-UFC champ Brock Lesnar announces retirement from WWE
Brock Lesnar has retired. The WWE star announced the end of his storied wrestling career on Tuesday, Aug. 4 on "The Pat McAfee Show." His decision comes after he wrestled Oba Femi in the main event of SummerSlam 2026 night one on Saturday, Aug. 1, which took place in his home state of Minnesota."I'm here today to to to do this interview to let the world and everybody know that that I am retired, and I wanted to say a big thank you to everybody. Saturday was a very emotional day for for me," he said. "Saturday for Brock Lesnar, that's it. That's it for me in the squared circle, and for everything else too."The announcement confirms what was heavily speculated to happen this year for the "Beast Incarnate." After he first faced Femi and lost at WrestleMania 42 in April, he stood in the ring and took off his gloves and boots while he and longtime manager Paul Heyman emotionally embraced in a moment that indicated he was calling it a career. He actually admitted to McAfee he figured he was done at that point but "he still had some fuel in the tank," leading to his return a month later to reignite the feud with Femi, which led to a win in the second match at Clash in Italy. It all led to SummerSlam 2026 in Minneapolis, where Lesnar attended school and was a standout collegiate wrestler at the University of Minnesota. The third matchup against Femi was a Hell in a Cell match, and Femi conquered Lesnar to officially best the veteran in their trilogy. There was belief Lesnar would want to end his career at home, and that was further cemented by what happened after the match. Lesnar returned to the ring and gave Femi a hug and took the microphone to tell the entire audience he was the future of WWE.Nothing was officially confirmed immediately afterward by Lesnar or WWE until the announcement three days later."I spent the last two days in bed. I got run over by a Nigerian nightmare dump truck Saturday night, and yeah, it's time," Lesnar said, adding he is ending his career in all of combat sports with no desire to compete in anything else.A national championship-winning wrestler for the Golden Gophers and one-time preseason player with the Minnesota Vikings, Lesnar has had a decorated WWE career that began in 2002. Dubbed as "The Next Big Thing," Lesnar immediately rose up the company with his high level intensity, power and athleticism. That same year, he won the WWE Undisputed Championship to become the youngest WWE Champion at age 25.He remained a top name for the remainder of his career, transitioning to UFC in 2008 and succeeding there, becoming UFC Heavyweight Champion with a 5-3-1 mixed martial arts career. Lesnar returned to WWE in 2012 and had notable feuds with John Cena, Roman Reigns and The Undertaker, including one of the most shocking moments in wrestling history when he snapped The Undertaker's 21-0 WrestleMania streak at WrestleMania 30 in 2014.While he was undoubtedly one of the biggest stars of this generation, he did undergo some controversy. He was named in the Vince McMahon sex trafficking and sexual assault lawsuit filed in January 2024 by a former WWE employee Janel Grant. In the suit, she alleged McMahon offered Lesnar sexual encounters with Grant as an incentive to re-sign with the company. It is also alleged there were plans for an encounter, but it never happened. The suit was dismissed in July. When the suit was filed, Lesnar was taken off of WWE programming and was away for two years before returning for his final run at SummerSlam 2025. In WWE, he is a 10-time WWE champion one of eight wrestlers to ever reach that mark a two-time Royal Rumble winner and winner of both King of the Ring and Money in the Bank. This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Ex-UFC champ Brock Lesnar announces retirement from WWE

Red Sox get strange 'loser' label from ESPN after two 'bizarre' trades
Red Sox get strange 'loser' label from ESPN after two 'bizarre' trades originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Boston Red Sox made some major moves at this year's MLB trade deadline. While their earlier move for Curtis Mead didn't work out thanks to some horrendous luck with a broken bone in his Red Sox debut, these other moves should warrant some intrigue.Adding Adley Rutschman, the three-time All-Star catcher, is a very fun move for the Red Sox. He's on the injured list and will miss some time still, but he's a very fun addition for the Red Sox.They also traded Marcelo Mayer to the San Francisco Giants for Erik Miller, who could be a sneaky great opener for Bryan Bello when needed. But, overall, ESPN's David Schoenfield called the Red Sox a "loser" of the deadline thanks to those "bizarre" trades.Red Sox called a 'loser' of trade deadline due to 'bizarre' trades"Look, the Red Sox might turn into winners, but the Rutschman and Mayer deals are pretty bizarre," Schoenfield writes.Part of why Schoenfield is calling the Red Sox a "loser" of this year's deadline is that the price they paid to acquire Rutschman was too high.Anthony Eyanson, Kyson Witherspoon, Enddy Azocar, a player to be named later, and Carlos Narvaez for Rutschman and Jake Rogers was a massive trade.Craig Breslow went big-fish hunting and landed the best catcher who was traded this summer. But, the price might've been too high for someone under club control only through 2027, and won't even suit up right away.MORE:Red Sox expected to trade Jarren Duran during offseason, not MLB trade deadlineThe Mayer trade was also a bit risky, as parting with him when his value is likely at its lowest does draw some question marks. Of course, the Red Sox might believe Mayer isn't actually all that good, hence their trade to the Giants. But, even with the risk of the Mayer and Rutschman trades, calling the Red Sox a "loser" of the trade deadline might be a step too far.Sure, things could blow up in Breslow's face with their deadline deals, but the upside is very much apparent. If this works, the Red Sox could be legitimate World Series contenders.More MLB news:Cubs land Kevin Gausman in blockbuster trade with Blue JaysWhat did Mets get for Freddy Peralta? Barcelona star is Aston Villa’s ‘top priority’ signing this summer
Barcelona star is Aston Villas top priority signing this summerA member of the midfield ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona has made his way to the very top of the summer transfer wishlist at Premier League club Aston Villa. This comes amid the understanding that Unai Emery has identified Marc Bernal as a necessary addition to his engine room setup at Villa Park.Youngster Bernal is for his part fresh off something of a bounce-back campaign in Catalunyas capital in 2025/26. Working his way back towards full fitness following a long-term spell on the sidelines with an ACL injury, the 19-year-old went on to rack up 33 appearances across all competitions.Along the way, Bernal showed off a new side to his game, too, chipping in with five goals despite generally being deployed in a deep-lying role at the base of midfield. And as alluded to above, such exploits evidently did not go unnoticed on the part of those behind the scenes at Aston Villa. As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, citing The Sun:AstonVillastop priority this summer is the signing of Barcelona midfielderMarc Bernal. The Claret and Blue have been tipped to launch a 35 million assault on the Spaniards signature, albeit with both Barcelona and Bernal himself eager to continue their journey together this coming season.Conor Laird GSFN

Rams' Matthew Stafford trails only one NFL quarterback before 2026 season
Rams' Matthew Stafford trails only one NFL quarterback before 2026 season originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is an official MVP winner. He hada stellar season, and that has to feel good. Picking up the honor at the end of the 2025-26 season marked his first time ever getting the award. But, is it enough to make him the No. 1 quarterback in the league? Not quite. At least, not according to the powers that be at The Athletic. On Tuesday, The Athletic released their 2026 NFL Quarterback Tiers results. On the list, Stafford is ranked No. 2. He's tied with Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and behind Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, at No. 1.Matthew Stafford is behind Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes in NFL rankingNow, both Allen and Mahomes have also won MVP awards, so there's that. But, there's an argument to be made that Allen, who hasn't taken his team to the Super Bowl, shouldn't be tied with Stafford in this ranking. Regardless, No. 2, even if it's a tie, is still solid."He runs the show, and there are only a few quarterbacks left who can do that," one defensive coach said. "He can rip it from any arm angle. His look-off throws are a freak show. If you cut up all his throws where he looks somewhere and rips it to the other side, it's nuts."So, what was against him getting higher? According to the report, age of 38 and "durability" were the only negatives from voters. Frankly, Stafford seems to be getting better with age, much like LeBron James, so when this season is over, don't be surprised if he blasts past Mahomes.More NFL news:Bears' Caleb Williams gets a wake-up call in Jared Goff, Jordan Love comparisonBrock Purdy gets NFL reality check that 49ers fans won't loveBroncos' Bo Nix muscles out Jalen Hurts, Aaron Rodgers in new NFL ranking

Nationals add OF James Wood to IL with oblique strain
The Washington Nationals are placing outfielder James Wood on the 10-day injured list with a minor oblique strain, per manager Blake Butera. Wood played against the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night and went 1-4 at the plate. He reportedly hurt his left side in the game and was replaced by Dylan Crews as a defensive substitution in the bottom of the eighth. The 6-6 outfielder was considered day-to-day, but MRI results on Tuesday showed that he had a mild oblique strain. Butera added that the hope is that Wood will be out the minimum required time on the 10-day IL and will be able to return once eligible. In a corresponding move, Washington recalled outfielder Andrew Pinckney. He has spent this season with the Nationals Triple-A affiliate. Pinckney has played in 94 games and is hitting .271 with 13 home runs and 51 RBI. Wood is one of the most exciting young players in MLB. He is now a two-time All-Star and has played in 114 games for Washington this season. Wood is slashing .265/.393/.535 and has hit 30 home runs with 73 RBI. He has scored 100 runs, which is already a career-high for him. The outfielder initially came to Washington in the 2022 megadeal that sent Juan Soto and Josh Bell to the San Diego Padres. The 23-year-old has one more season of pre-arbitration before three years of arbitration, tying him to the Nationals for the foreseeable future. Heading into Tuesdays game against the Phillies, the Nationals have a 55-59 record. Washington is 13 games back of the Atlanta Braves for the NL East lead, and 5.5 games back of the final NL Wild Card spot with about two months left in the regular season.

CFMOTO Dominates Adventure Classes At 2026 Red Bull Romaniacs
CFMOTO proved the capabilities of its machines in dominant fashion at this year's Romaniacs hard enduro event.Begin Press Release:Mario Romn Serrano and CFMOTO complete a three-class Adventure sweep at Red Bull Romaniacs 2026Mario Romn Serrano put the CFMOTO 450MT on top of Red Bull Romaniacs 2026 with victory in the Adventure Ultimate class, delivering a landmark result for CFMOTO at one of the toughest off-road motorcycle events in the world. The success extended across the Adventure categories, with CFMOTO riders taking victory in all three classes. Alongside Romn's Ultimate triumph, Rene Columna secured the Adventure Core title, while Chinese rider He Guishu claimed the Adventure Lite victory.Recognized as one of the toughest Hard Enduro and Adventure Bike Rallyes in the world, Red Bull Romaniacs 2026 took place from July 28 to August 1 around Sibiu, Romania. From the In-city Prolog to four Offroad Days in the Southern Carpathian Mountains, the event was a full measure of distance, terrain and judgement, asking riders and motorcycles to keep adapting from one test to the next.CFMOTO joined Romaniacs for a second year as a major event sponsor and brought nearly 40 riders from 15 countries across Asia, Europe, North America and South America. The line-up covered Adventure Ultimate, Adventure Core and Adventure Lite, with the 450MT as the most widely used CFMOTO model. The 800MT-X and the 1000MT-X added further presence for the MT family. The new 1000MT-X also made a strong impression in the line-up, bringing torque-rich litre-class power, true ADV geometry and a 21-inch front / 18-inch rear spoked wheel set-up to the same demanding Romaniacs terrain. It was the 450MT that carried the sharpest storyline through Romn's title charge - it was a statement of untapped potential, proving that this machine is capable of far more than its spec sheet suggests.Romn brought years of Enduro experience and previous podium success at Red Bull Romaniacs, but Adventure Ultimate still offered a fresh challenge aboard the CFMOTO 450MT. Before the race, this CFMOTO brand ambassador also joined the participating riders for a training session, sharing some of his experience before the real test began. The first signs were immediate. Romn attacked the In-city Prolog, found rhythm on the urban course and topped the Adventure Ultimate class. The race then moved into the demanding terrain that defines Romaniacs, combining mining landscapes with rough mountain sections. "The 450MT worked very well," said Romn after Offroad Day 1. The comment was simple, but it fitted the way the race was being won. The 450MT has already become one of CFMOTO's most recognized global Adventure models, helped by its light handling, multi-terrain versatility and off-road-ready wheel set-up. In Romania, those qualities were given a harder job: the bike needed to climb, absorb, turn, hold momentum and keep Romn confident when fatigue and terrain began to build together. The race machine was based on the CFMOTO 450MT and set up for the demands of Red Bull Romaniacs. The production bike already carries the right adventure ingredients: long-travel KYB suspension, useful ground clearance and a 21-inch front / 18-inch rear tyre set-up for dirt and broken terrain. In Romania, those ingredients had to work under pressure. They helped the 450MT pick lines, work through obstacles and keep moving through one of the toughest Adventure tests of the year.Selected race-use components also formed part of the package. Where fitted, the Akrapovi race-use exhaust system was constructed completely from lightweight, high-grade titanium alloys, offering an impressive weight saving, increased response through the entire rev range, and increased power and torque. The muffler's surface design also adds strength, enhancing resilience in demanding conditions.Across the remaining Offroad Days, Romn's task was not to win one dramatic moment but to keep repeating the right choices. He managed the pressure, kept the 450MT in the fight and pushed when the mountains allowed. By the end of the week, he crossed the finish line 14 minutes and 40 seconds ahead of runner-up Pol Tarrs to claim the Adventure Ultimate crown, and the CFMOTO 450MT had turned its Adventure reputation into a race-winning performance.Beyond the three class victories, CFMOTO riders also delivered strong results across the Adventure categories. In Adventure Core, Chris Power secured a podium finish with third overall, while Adventure Lite saw CFMOTO riders fill all three podium positions. Chinese riders also competed in Adventure Core and Adventure Lite, joining the wider CFMOTO rider line-up at Romaniacs.Adventure Ultimate champion Mario Romn shared his emotions after securing victory: "I want to say thank you to all of you for the cheering and messages, and for motivating me through all these tough days of competition. I did my best during the whole week, and I'm so proud of myself."Adventure Core winner Rene Columna reflected on the result after the race: "I don't have words to explain how happy I am. I'm happy with the bike, the team and my performance."For Chinese rider He Guishu, the result also represented a step onto the international stage: "Winning first place in the CFMOTO qualifier this year gave me the opportunity to step onto this international stage, and I feel very honored."For CFMOTO, Red Bull Romaniacs 2026 offered more than just the final standings. It was a different test measured in rocks, roots, fatigue, navigation, teamwork and judgement, where durability, control and trust mattered as much as speed. With its strong performance at Red Bull Romaniacs 2026, CFMOTO left Sibiu with evidence as well as momentum. The brand tested the MT range in one of Adventure riding's most demanding environments, while continuing a wider story built through motorcycle competition and rider experiences - from Moto2 and Moto3 racing to the CFMOTO MT CHALLENGE. Across these platforms, CFMOTO continues to learn from competition, connect with riders and develop the machines that define its growing global presence.Become aMotorcycle.cominsider.
