Its the first player the team has cut since the start of training camp.An undrafted free agent out of SMU, Nwokobia was quickly scooped up by the Bengals following the 2026 NFL Draft. The hope was he could challenge guys like Daijahn Anthony and PJ Jules for one of the final safety spots, but that obviously didnt pan out.The 6-foot, 206-pound Nwokobia was listed as a safety but has the potential to play nickel cornerback. Over the last two seasons while playing in the ACC, he racked up 180 tackles, 10 pass deflections, 5.5 tackles for loss, and five interceptions.Because this move comes so early in camp, it could signal that the team has someone else theyd like to compete for a spot on the final 53-man roster, though no subsequent move has been made.

The sun shone a little brighter over the Atlanta Falcons' training camp Tuesday. Bijan Robinson's brief hold-in had ended, and for a moment, all was right in Flowery Branch. The Falcons made Robinson the highest-paid running back in NFL history on Tuesday morning, a move that solidifies both Robinson's status as an elite player and the Falcons' offensive core as Atlanta attempts to return to the postseason for the first time in nearly a decade."You want to get your guys ready for the football season, and [the extension] allows us to get Bijan ready. He's eager, beyond eager to get out there," new head coach Kevin Stefanski said Tuesday afternoon. "We'll slowly get him back in there once he's full go, and just let him go."Maybe it's a bit of projection, but Robinson, clad in a brilliant red No. 7 jersey, seemed to be stepping a little higher on his warmup runs, bouncing on his toes and vaulting his knees to the sky. A country-inflected playlist of Jason Aldean and Morgan Wallen echoed over the field, and Falcons president of football operations Matt Ryan zipped passes to receivers like it was 2016 all over again. Through it all, Robinson stayed largely off the field, a wise investment-protection move for the running back who just reset the market.Up in Detroit, Jahmyr Gibbs and his people have kept a close eye on the Bijan dealings, given that Gibbs has been executing a similar "hold-in" through the first days of Lions camp. And in Indianapolis, Jonathan Taylor, who's an unrestricted free agent after this season, perked up at the news of Robinson's extension.But those are problems for other franchises. Atlanta, for all its uncertainty at quarterback, now has its marquee running back, the 2025 leader in yards from scrimmage, secured. And Stefanski couldn't be happier that Robinson is finally, firmly in-house."He's wired the right way, he was raised the right way, he's a team guy all the way," Stefanski said. "That can be rare sometimes in this day and age, but it's just who he is. It's certainly authentic He's all about the team, and I don't see that changing."Robinson has been one of the most electrifying players in the NFL over the last three seasons, with highlight-reel plays a possibility on every snap. Take, for instance, the Falcons' first game of 2025, against Tampa Bay, where Robinson scrambled for a 50-yard touchdown reception on his second touch of the year. Even with his heroics in that Tampa Bay game, Atlanta went on to lose, one of nine Ls in yet another maddening, disappointing season.The Falcons are slow-rolling Robinson's reintroduction to the field, and that includes his media availability. But there's no shortage of players and coaches ready to step up and testify to his importance to the team. New Falcons quarterback Tua Tagovailoa calls Robinson "amazing" and "a very humble person." Running backs coach Michael Pitre praised Robinson for nearly 10 full minutes."He's a guy that loves football. He loves football, he loves his teammates," Pitre said. "The biggest thing is the fact that he's back out there with his teammates, the energy, the enthusiasm that he brings is infectious."The Falcons quickly needed that enthusiasm Tuesday. Just hours after the exhilaration of the Robinson signing, 2025 first-round draft pick Jalon Walker went down with what the NFL Network termed a torn ACL. The mood of practice shifted dramatically downward after Walker was carted off the field.For Robinson, though, the road ahead, both this season and beyond, remains as bright as any in the NFL. "He's a guy that works endlessly to maximize the talents and gifts that he's been given," Pitre said. "But I also think there's a lot of room for him to continue to play. So that's where our focus goes on, now that he's back out here. How can we continue to get better?"That's the eternal question in Atlanta. In Bijan Robinson, they have one answer, now and for the next few years.

The Hoosiers and Fighting Irish were set to meet in Bloomington and South Bend in 2030 and 2031 seasons in a pair of games agreed to years ago when Tom Allen and Brian Kelly were still leading their respective programs.Notre Dame has replaced those games with a rescheduled series against historic rival USC. It remains to be seen how Indiana, which reportedly requested out of the series, replaces those gaps in its schedule.As of now, the Hoosiers have no power conference opponents in future non-conference schedules. Indiana has previously cancelled series against both Louisville and Virginia. Itll soon be back-to-back U.S. appearances for Australia's Jai Opetaia, who has landed the co-feature slot on one of the biggest boxing cards in 2026. Opetaia, the reigning Zuffa cruiserweight champion, will defend his title against Noel Mikaelian on the Sept. 12 Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn undercard at the T-Mobile in Las Vegas.Mikaelian is the reigning WBC cruiserweight world champion. The status of that title was not clarified in Tuesday's announcement, although Mikaelian did assert his intention to defend his crown. "When I step into the ring on September 12 against Jai Opetaia in Las Vegas, I intend to defend my world championship," Mikaelian said in a press release.Opetaia (30-0, 23 KOs), a former two-time IBF cruiserweight champion, routed Brandon Glanton in his Zuffa Boxing debut in March.Mikaelian (28-3, 12 KOs) was last in action this past December when he dethroned Badou Jack of his WBC belt.Mikaelian was ordered to put his WBC belt on the line against unified WBA and WBO cruiserweight champion David Benavidez in May. Although it is rare for a sanctioning body to order their champion to face another titleholder, Benavidez's status as reigning WBC light heavyweight champion allowed him to successfully request mandatory status for the WBC cruiserweight title.With Mikaelian instead taking the fight with Opetaia, he is expected to be stripped of his WBC world title, however the WBC's rules are inconsistently enforced and therefore it is currently unclear whether he will be relinquished of the belt.Benavidez's and Mikaelian's respective promoters, Sampson Lewkowicz and Don King, did strike a deal for their fight, but Mikaelian has chosen to sign with Zuffa Boxing and fight Opetaia instead. King is understood to claim a legally binding contract with Mikaelian and is expected to sue.As was the case when then-IBF champion Opetaia announced his fight with Glanton earlier this year, more drama is thought to come between the sanctioning bodies, Zuffa Boxing and Opetaia's quest for undisputed as a result of Tuesday's announcement.

The 2026 football season will be the second for sophomore offensive lineman David Sanders Jr. at Tennessee.The Vols will open fall training camp on Wednesday. Ahead of fall camp kicking off, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel discussed the development of Sanders Jr."Extremely comfortable at the left tackle position," Heupel said. "Played that earlier in his career for a long time. He got a lot of play last year on the right side, and the transition for him has been really natural. He's a guy that took advantage of the offseason, made great gains physically, just mass to his frame, super explosive. "I expect him to continue to grow. It's a really young player. He should be getting better every rep, every day."The 6-foot-6, 310-pound offensive lineman appeared in nine games, including six starts, as a freshman in 2025. Indianas Stephen Daley is rejoining the defending national champions.According to ESPN, Daley is set to become the most high-profile player to take advantage of a recent ruling by a federal judge in Colorado allowing players from the class of 2022 to play a fifth season of college football.Daley, who missed the College Football Playoff after a freak injury following the Big Ten title game, had 5.5 sacks and 19 tackles for loss in 2025.
