Packers coordinators speak for 1st time during training camp
GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN - OCTOBER 13: Head coach Jonathan Gannon reacts to an officials call during a game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on October 13, 2024 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers defeated the Cardinals 34-13. (Photo by Stacy Revere/Getty Images) | Getty ImagesThe Green Bay Packers players wont have another open practice until after Fridays Family Night scrimmage at Lambeau Field, but the media did get a chance to talk to the teams coordinators on Wednesday. For the first time during training camp, we got to hear feedback from each units top coaches, rather than just from head coach Matt LaFleur.Heres your recap of the major news from todays press conferences.Cam Achord, special teamsFirst-year Packers special teams coordinator Cam Achord was asked how Trey Smack likes his kicks to be held. He then came off the podium and did this for almost two minutes. Enjoy. pic.twitter.com/sD6yhBbZDB Matt Schneidman (@mattschneidman) August 5, 2026Im not going to bore you guys with too much special teams talk, but Cam Achords breakdown of why Trey Smack prefers a different way for his holder to position the ball than the typical straight up and down every single time is worth your time. Inject this into my veins. More of this PLEASE.Jonathan Gannon, defenseSo far, the Packers, overall, have exceeded expectations, according to new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. This goes for leadership, the operation and players, in Gannons words. Thats great to hear!Gannon brought up versatility a lot, in the context of almost any position group in his unit. The interior defensive linemen are playing everywhere right now. The edge rushers are even kicking inside. The safeties are being placed all over the field. He said that they have the talent in the secondary to present different looks to get into the same calls, because Xavier McKinney, Evan Williams and Javon Bullard can do so much.As far as what his defense will look like, Gannon said that each game should look different, not because of the Packers talent but because of the variance from opposing offenses from week to week. Itll be interesting to monitor how many tools Gannon has in the toolbox early on in the season, when Green Bay doesnt have Micah Parsons, and how that will change as his players get more time in the system and Parsons returns.Adam Stenavich, offenseOffensive coordinator Adam Stenavich seemed pretty pleased with his unit, stating that backup interior offensive linemen Jager Burton (a fifth-round rookie) and Jacob Monk (a third-year fifth-round pick) have the right mindset. He also stated that Jordan Morgan is our left tackle, and hes out there to prove it to everybody, if anyone had any questions about whether or not Morgan was going to stick outside after primarily playing guard for his first two years in the NFL. Stenavich called left tackle Morgans natural spot.On the tight end front, with all the injuries, Josh Whyle and Drake Dabney have been forced into the lineup with the starting offense a lot during camp. Stenavich stated that both have improved and that maybe no one has improved as much as [Dabney] in the first few days. He also called Dabney more of an in-line tight end than Whyle, who has been playing a lot of fullback in camp, though that might just be the nature of being down so many bodies at the position.Running back MarShawn Lloyd, who has only been healthy enough to play 10 regular-season snaps over two seasons after being taken in the third round, has been looking good in camp, per Steno. Hes hoping that Lloyd gets a big workload in the preseason, considering how many limited live snaps Lloyd has gotten in NFL games for a third-year player.

Welcome back! Star on brink of massive Liverpool return
Welcome back! Star on brink of massive Liverpool returnLiverpool are to welcome back a star right at the perfect moment. A massive win for Andoni Iraola. There's no question that Liverpool are short right now. The Reds have lost players without replacing them, Ibrahima Konate and Mohamed Salah the most notable.Even Andy Robertson's replacement wasn't signed - Liverpool are simply bringing Kostas Tsimikas back into the fold for another season after his loan spell at AS Roma. There's half an argument that Koante has been 'replaced' as Jeremy Jacquet joined, but the latter's deal was confirmed back when Liverpool thought the former was staying. It's hard to call him a replacement when that clearly wasn't the intention. But Liverpool's centre-back situation is dreadful in general. They've had to count on teenagers across pre-season simply because they haven't had other options - Jacquet hasn't been fit to play, Joe Gomez picked up an injury in the first friendly, and Virgil van Dijk has only just returned after the World Cup.Bet 10, Get 30 in Free BetsOpen an account and place a qualifying bet of 10 at min odds of 1/5 (1.2) or greater.18+New UK/ROI customers. Offers subject to change. The squad needs numbers at centre-back then, and that brings about information on the other option at Anfield. Giovanni Leoni, signed in 2025, has only made one appearance for Liverpool but we shouldn't forget that he's viewed as one of the biggest talents at centre-back in world football.Unfortunately, Leoni picked up a serious knee injury on his debut, robbing him of his season. Liverpool have been short at the back ever since and it's only now that the Italian may be back. The Athletic reports that Leoni will return to the squad this month, and should be in full training by the time September rolls around. That's with a view to him actually playing again next month. It would be a massive win for Andoni Iraola, who desperately needs centre-back options. Things have been so bad that his assistant, Tommy Elphick, had to step into the role for training just to make up numbers.Leoni's return eases the problems enormously. Liverpool must ease him back into things, of course, but it appears the Italian will be playing regularly before long.

VfB Stuttgart line up Guinean striker Sidiki Chrif as alternative to Dzenan Pejcinovic
VfB Stuttgart line up Guinean striker Sidiki Chrif as alternative to Dzenan PejcinovicVfB Stuttgart have identified Fenerbahe striker Sidiki Chrif as a potential alternative to Wolfsburg forward Dzenan Pejcinovic. Kicker confirms an initial Sky Germany report claiming that the 19-year-old Guinean has entered Stuttgarts thinking as negotiations for Pejcinovic continue to drag on. Chrif remains under contract with Fenerbahe through 2030.Stuttgart still prefer Pejinovi. The Germany U21 international has already reached a verbal agreement over a contract through 2031 and continues to favour a move to the Champions League participants. Working under Sebastian Hoene and returning closer to his native Munich reportedly appeal to the 21-year-old.The two clubs nevertheless remain apart over the final structure of the deal. Stuttgart recently increased their proposal to just under 23.5m guaranteed, with bonuses capable of taking the package beyond 25m. Wolfsburg sporting director Dieter Hecking has maintained that the relegated club will not compromise on its valuation.Ermedin Demirovic and Deniz Undav welcome another strikerStuttgarts pursuit of another striker forms part of a broader plan to enter the season with three established centre-forward options. Deniz Undav and Ermedin Demirovic remain in place, while Pejinovi has long been viewed as the preferred addition.Demirovi recently reaffirmed his commitment to Stuttgart after attracting interest from Leeds United, Juventus and Fenerbahe. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international also publicly welcomed the prospect of Pejcinovic joining, stressing that VfB require as much quality as possible ahead of their Champions League return.Undav found himself in full agreement with his colleague.I dont care who comes, Undav told reporters on the sidelines of Stuttgarts training camp on Wednesday. Its only important that we get quality players. A couple of years ago when we were in the Champions League, we had quality players, but the depth [wasnt there].I think you need to go into that competition with three to four good strikers, Undav continued. Because a lot can happen. When one doesnt perform, you have two or three others. Im happy about every player that brings quality and makes our team better.Ive read that were not finished on the transfer market, Undav concluded. Im happy about every player who can help us out immediately, players that we dont have to develop. We all are happy to prove ourselves. Thats normal in football.GGFN|Peter Weis

Kansas City Chiefs Officially Restore Arrowhead Stadium Name
The home of the Kansas City Chiefs will once again be known simply as Arrowhead Stadium. The team announced Wednesday that one of the NFL's iconic venues had shed its official name GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium after the Government Employees Health Association agreed to using the classic, simplified name of the facility going forward. The Chiefs and GEHA signed a naming rights deal in 2021 that resulted in the name change. But it never stuck among fans, and even players and coaches often forgot to use the official moniker, instead using the name it was christened with upon opening in 1972. In fact, Arrowhead Stadium has become such a well-known brand that just about everybody in Kansas City and beyond continued to refer to it that way during the recent World Cup, when FIFA renamed it "Kansas City Stadium" for the six matches played there. The Chiefs will continue playing at Arrowhead Stadium until their lease expires in 2031, at which point they will move into a $3 billion domed stadium being built across the state line in Kansas. That stadium has yet to be named. Reported by the Associated Press

Oregon Ducks will likely be No. 2 team in USA when they face USC
In one of the more respected coaching rankings, the Big Ten once again gets its respect as the elite conference in college football. Many teams in the Big Ten cracked the top 25, but the headline was both the Oregon Ducks and the Ohio State Buckeyes coming in as the top 2 teams. The Ducks are shaping up to be an early favorite this season. In a recent article, Nick Kosko gives his analysis of the Trojans' biggest foe coming in as the 2nd-best team in the country in the Coaches Poll top 25 ranking. Here is what he had to say about the Oregon Ducks: "Is it now or never for Oregon? It seems so and the Coaches Poll rankings agree with that sentiment. QB Dante Moore elected to return rather than go to the NFL Draft and Dan Lanning fine tuned a loaded roster.WR Evan Stewart is healthy, as well as young star Dakorien Moore, giving Oregon an elite pass catching duo. On the flip side, Bear Alexander and Matayo Uiagalelei are a fearsome pairing on the defensive line. They could be one of the Big Tens best."It is a debate on which side of the ball is the better unit when it comes to talking about the Oregon Ducks. Which is a great position for them to be in. This is a complete roster, and they have a star at quarterback in Dante Moore. Dan Lanning has everything he needs to become the next Big Ten coach to get a title, and the Ducks are finally getting their first title win as a program. It will be up to the USC Trojans and other teams in the Big Ten to stand in the way of an early favorite in the Ducks.Contact/Follow @TrojansWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of USC Trojans news, notes and opinion. This article originally appeared on Trojans Wire: Oregon Ducks will likely be No. 2 team in USA when they face USC
