The Commanders receiver corps obviously got better with the Stefon Diggs acquisition. The veteran is a top-tier route runner and a steady producer with a long track record of success. While hes 32 years old, Diggs can still move and make important catches in the clutch. Head coach Dan Quinn has established a competitive Commanders training camp, but its safe to say Diggs will eventually slot into the No. 2 receiver slot opposite Terry McLaurin. Hes expectedplay significant time and get targeted a ton, even though he may not be a true every-down player after playing 55% of the offensive snaps in New England last season.Hell also impact his position group just by joining it. A roster spot just got harder to earn at the position with Terry McLaurin, Diggs and third-round pick Antonio Williams as roster locks. Jaylin Lanes punt-return ability makes him darn-close to one, with maybe two more roster spots available. Fierce battles will be waged for those, among talented individuals. A few thoughts on how the Diggs addition might impact the receiver corps. Terry McLaurinTerry will remain scary while continuing to move around the formation as new coordinator David Blough always intended. McLaurin is the alpha around here, on a long-term deal and one of the longest-tenured players on the Commanders roster. He also has an even-keeled leadership vibe that will hold his position group together and help it improve with all the extra behind-the-scenes work he does. None of that will change with Diggs around. The new guy commands respect and should keep defenses from focusing too heavily on McLaurin. Thats nothing but a positive for the veteran, who could be in for a monster year. Antonio WilliamsHaving a savvy veteran whos next-level creating separation should help a young rookie adept in his own right at creating separation. It should actually be a huge help in his development. Toss out those thoughts of Diggs impeding Williams progress. This will allow the third-round pick to develop without the pressure of having to be a primary target early in his first professional season. Trust me, if Williams gets open a ton and builds trust, quarterback Jayden Daniels will throw him the football. While Williams has experience and college production playing in the slot, he could move around a bunch like Diggs and McLaurin. Jaylin Lane/Luke McCaffreyThese young guys have speed and have flashed potential as NFL playmakers. Both guys can take the top off a defense and at least expand a coverage area to create room for others. Development will be key for both players this summer, as they work to earn opportunities and provide the quality depth most good teams possess. Injuries happen, and the Commanders must be ready for them. Treylon BurksThe Diggs signing mightve impacted the fifth-year veteran the most. Treylon Burks was in the conversation to be Washingtons No. 2 receiver, with a shot to be a heavily-involved on-field presence. That seems unlikely now, if the top receivers stay healthy. Burks still has a lot to offer in terms of size and physicality in the pattern, but a large sum of targets potentially available to him might be gone now. He can earn a role on the team with a solid summer, but he has more of an uphill battle to that end than he did on Tuesday. Dyami BrownHead coach Dan Quinn was complimentary of Brown on Wednesday morning, saying how much better he looks in this second stint in Washington. He has solid chemistry with Daniels, which puts him in serious play for a roster spot. Realistic expectations around his involvement certainly dropped on Wednesday, though. Everything we just discussed is projection, though, with much of training camp and the preseason to sort things out now that Diggs is a Commander. Hinch is not blaming the Detroit Tigers trade deadline direction on one bad break, one injury or one player.He is putting himself on the list.After Detroit traded Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize while remaining within reach of the American League postseason race, Hinch acknowledged that the Tigers created the circumstances that made selling the most defensible option.I think I can look back, and I will look back a lot, into how we got to this point, Hinch said. It doesnt always all make sense. Its not as easy as saying, Oh, I wish we would have done this. I wish we would have done that in April. You dont get to replay the games.Hinch Accepts His Share of ResponsibilityThe Tigers dealt with injuries and stretches of poor performance throughout the season. Hinch did not use either as a shield.Weve had our own stretch of bad luck with bad health. Weve had bad performance. Weve had bad decisions by me. Everybody has a hand in getting us to where were at now. Once youre accountable to that, you continue to try to get better.That is the heart of Hinchs message.Detroit did not reach the deadline because of one isolated collapse. They also had not played well enough to convince the front office that sacrificing future talent for immediate help was the responsible move.Hinch did not criticize president of baseball operations Scott Harris for reaching that conclusion.His disappointment centered on how the Tigers put themselves in that position.There is a major difference.Hinch was not saying Detroit should have ignored the standings and bought aggressively. He was saying the team should have performed well enough over the first four months to make the choice obvious.It never did.Hinchs Message Carries WeightManagers frequently accept responsibility after difficult losses. Hinchs comments went further.He specifically cited his own decisions as one of the reasons Detroit arrived at the deadline without a convincing case to add.That admission matters because Hinch has been trusted to manage a roster filled with young players, veterans, injuries and constant lineup changes. Some decisions worked. Others did not.He knows the final result reflects all of it.You dont get to replay the games, Hinch said.That is the brutal part of a baseball season. April decisions can shape July. A bad week can become a bad month. A bad month can alter the direction of an entire organization.By the deadline, Detroits margin had disappeared.The Season Is Not FinishedAccepting blame does not mean Hinch believes the Tigers should stop competing.Detroit still has a chance to reach the postseason, even after losing two important starters. The remaining roster must now prove it can survive the consequences of the first 112 games.The Tigers cannot change the decisions, injuries or performances that brought them here.They can decide what happens next.That is where Hinchs accountability message becomes useful. The point is not to spend the final stretch reliving every mistake. The point is to understand them, own them and respond.Bottom LineA.J. Afterall, without lvarez making noise, theres little chance of a deal getting done.On paper, lvarez looks like a very good fit for Barcelona, and the system that Hansi Flick has built. He presses like a machine, is built for possession based football after years spent with Pep Guardiola, and is a lethal finisher who can put the ball in the net in a multitude of ways.lvarez signed for Atletico Madrid two summers ago, at the same time when Flick arrived in Barcelona. Its well known that the Barca boss has never been properly backed by those above him, but can you imagine if he had a center forward like lvarez to work with from the beginning?Alas, here we are two years later. Flick has already delivered two La Liga trophies with an aging Robert Lewandowski and an inconsistent Ferran Torres. One is now in Chicago, while the other could be off to Paris in no time. Barcelona are not in a great position of leverage here, and AtlticoMadrid know it. The signing of Anthony Gordon worked so well because no one saw it coming. The pursuit of lvarez has left the Blaugrana looking desperate, and for a club with unstable finances, that is not a position you have the luxury of negotiating from.As the saying goes, there are other fish in the sea, and Barcelona should have made it clear publicly that they have other options in mind who could just as well be a striker solution. That puts pressure on the players in the market to show they are serious about joining the club, while not showing other clubs how weak their position is when it comes time to decide on the terms of a deal. Its been disappointing that so little investment was made in Flicks project until now. At least, we assumed, it was out of financial prudence. Who could argue with that?Now, all of a sudden, money doesnt seem to be a problem. Its hard to understand whats going on when Barcelona vacillate between extremes.One thing that would help is if Ferran Torres had his contract extended before the World Cup started. There was no advantage, and no excuse, in waiting until the last minute. Whether he stays or goes, Barcelona would be in a stronger position with the World Cup star under contract for the long term.If they were ready to swim away from the Shark, there were options, not all of them expensive, to replace him.Victor Osimhen isnt cheap, but hes a player on the same level as lvarez, and would certainly come at a lower price.Duan Vlahovi isnt at the top of his game, but hes a free agent, and at 26 years old, is certainly worth having on board given that there is little risk if he agrees to a fair contract. The list doesnt end there. Many names have come up, but Barcelona seem to only have eyes for Julin lvarez. Problem is, hes taken, and theyll likely just have to accept that.The clock is ticking, but there is still time with one month to go before the market closes. At this point, lets hope that Deco has a trick up his sleeve. Barcelonas rivals are locked and loaded, and ready to take the crown if they can.The Blaugrana still have work to do. Theres a lot of creativity in the squad, but the most important question remains.Whos going to score the goals?

Alvarez steps in for Geoff Neal who was forced to withdraw from the bout. After a 7-2 run at lightweight that including seven finishes Alvarez made the move up to the welterweight division, winning his 170-pound debut via decision against Vicente Luque at UFC Rio this past October. Pakistan avoided a series defeat by beating the West Indies by eight wickets in the second Test in Port of Spain on Wednesday. The win ended Pakistan's eight-match losing streak in away Tests and gave them their first Test victory outside home in three years.The two-match series finished 1-1 after the West Indies had won the first Test by 90 runs.It was Pakistan's first away Test win since July 2023, when they defeated Sri Lanka under Babar Azam's captaincy. Since then, Pakistan went through several changes in coaches, selectors and captains, with Babar stepping down from the role twice. This time, the combination of captain Babar Azam and head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed helped Pakistan return to winning ways overseas.Pakistan chased down the target of 75 runs on the fourth morning, reaching 77/2 shortly after the first session. Abdullah Shafique, who scored a century in the first innings, remained unbeaten on 24, while captain Babar Azam also finished unbeaten on 24.Earlier, Pakistan bowled out the West Indies for 117 in their second innings inside the first half-hour of play on a wearing Queen's Park Oval pitch. The Florida Gators made finalizations to their roster for the upcoming season ahead of Wednesday's fall camp, adding seven players since the end of spring camp in April.The Gators brought in five freshmen who can help on both sides of the ball: wide receiver Mason Jordan, defensive linemenStive-Bentley Keumajou-Yondui andJayden Gross, safety Eric Parks Jr. and long snapper Lincoln Anderson. During the Pro Day, Jordan posted measurements of 6 feet 6 inches and 237 pounds. He also jumped 32 inches vertically and 10 feet broad.Since then, he has gained 10 pounds and is currently listed as a senior.The Gators' second summer transfer was Jones. Jones played two seasons of community college at Independence Community College in Kansas before joining the Gators as a redshirt sophomore. In his final season, Jones finished the season with 12 total tackles and five pass breaks. He currently stands at 6 feet 1 inch and 181 pounds.Another summer transfer pickup, Jones spent the last two seasons at Independence Community College (JUCO) in Kansas and finished his 2025campaign with 12 total tackles and five pass breakups. The UFC flyweight title rematch is on the books.Champion Joshua Van and former titleholder Alexandre Pantoja will run it back Sept. 19 at UFC 331 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, the promotion announced.Van (17-2 MMA, 10-1 UFC) and Pantoja (30-6 MMA, 14-4 UFC) initially collided at UFC 323 in December and that's essentially what the fight was in a nutshell. It was one single collision. Van caught a Pantoja kick in the opening seconds and dumped the then-champion to the canvas. As Pantoja fell, he planted his left arm on the mat causing fight-ending injury.Despite the gruesome optics, Pantoja suffered a dislocation and is back competing for gold again nine months later. As Pantoja recovered, Van fought Tatsuro Taira in May and won by fifth-round knockout. Former Colorado football player Shilo Sanders is seeking to have the written transcript of his coming bankruptcy trial sealed from public view, along with any exhibits displayed at the trial where Sanders hopes to escape more than $11 million in debt, according to a new case document filed Aug. 3.The filing says Sanders, son of Colorado football coach Deion Sanders, does not oppose keeping the trial proceedings public but wants to seal any written record of it in large part because the case contains information relating to when Sanders was a minor at age 15.Attorneys for USA TODAY filed a motion to intervene in the Sanders bankruptcy case July 22 a request that seeks greater transparency in this high-profile case after several developments in it recently were conducted in secret, including a pretrial court hearing July 14.On July 31, Sanders attorney, Victor Vital, filed his response to that request under seal, keeping its contents from public view. USA TODAYs attorneys, who have access to the response, replied with an Aug. 3 court filing that references what Vital proposed.USA TODAY's filing notes that Sanders's response does not oppose keeping the Aug. 31 trial proceedings open to the public "but buries the fact that his proposed order would seal the complete trial transcript and any exhibits submitted as evidence at trial.There is absolutely no basis to seal, prospectively, any trial transcript or any evidence in this run of the mill bankruptcy case, nor is there any basis to treat Defendant (Shilo Sanders) as somehow special because of his notoriety (indeed, it counsels exactly the opposite no trial defendant should be given such a special privilege because of his fame and wealth)," said the reply from USA TODAYs attorneys at Zansberg Beylkin LLC in Denver, which specialize in First Amendment cases.The arguments are now in front of Judge Michael Romero for consideration, with a timeline for his decision uncertain.Shilo Sanders is seeking to discharge more than $11 million in debtIn its motion to intervene, USA TODAY asked the court to unseal certain records in the case and to recognize its objection to any proposed closure of Sanders coming bankruptcy trial.Sanders, now 26, filed for bankruptcy in 2023 in hopes of erasing more than $11 million in debt, almost all of which is owed to John Darjean, a former security guard at Sanders school in Dallas.The debt stems from an incident between Darjean and Sanders in September 2015, when Sanders was 15. Sanders attorneys have filed numerous documents under seal on the basis that they are subject to protective orders issued in court to guard their client's privacy, particularly because they contain sensitive information from when he was a minor.Whats at stake in Shilo Sanders trialDarjean filed a civil lawsuit against Sanders and his parents in 2016, accusing Sanders of assaulting him and causing him permanent injuries when he tried to confiscate his phone at school in 2015. Sanders parents were dismissed from the case by early 2019, leaving Sanders as the sole remaining defendant at age 19.Sanders then dropped his attorneys in 2020 and didnt show up for the trial in 2022. As a result, a judge in Texas issued an $11.89 million default judgment against him after hearing Darjeans evidence without any rebuttal from Sanders.The issue now at the bankruptcy court trial is whether Sanders can discharge that debt and get a fresh start. Darjean is fighting to get all that hes owed and has argued through his attorneys that Sanders shouldnt be allowed to discharge the debt under bankruptcy law because it stems from a "willful and malicious injury." Sanders said he acted in self-defense and that Darjean was the aggressor. Darjean said Sanders aggravated an existing spinal injury that since has led to more surgeries and incontinence.What USA TODAY seeks in its motionSanders attorney filed several motions under seal in May that sought to limit the scope of the evidence presented at the bankruptcy trial Aug. 31. Judge Romero then held a private hearing about those matters July 14.In its motion to intervene July 22, USA TODAY asked the court to order the release of a redacted transcript of that hearing, along with the motions that were filed under seal by Sanders attorney in May.The motion said press coverage of judicial proceedings is "vital" to protect the publics right to know the workings of the judicial system. USA TODAY's motion also noted that numerous details about the case had been publicly reported and that many court filings now under seal in a Texas court were publicly available for years, which is when they were obtained by USA TODAY.Regarding the trial transcript and trial evidence, USA TODAY's Aug. 3 filing states Sanders' attempt to keep them from public scrutiny "violates the First Amendment's right of public access."Degree of public scrutiny at issueNeither Darjean nor Sanders opposed USA TODAY's motion to intervene, according to USA TODAYs Aug. 3 filing. Real Madrid have agreed a 135 million ($156 million) deal with RB Leipzig for teenage Ivory Coast forward Yan Diomande, the Press Association understands.Diomande's rapid rise for Leipzig in the Bundesliga last season led to a host of Europe's top clubs queuing up to buy him and Real appear to have won the race for his signature after tabling a fee of 135 million.Diomande will become the most expensive African footballer ever should the deal be completed.Paris St Germain pulled out of the race to sign him last month, leaving the way clear for Madrid to close in on the 19-year-old, who scored 13 goals and made 10 assists for Leipzig during the 2025-26 campaign.Diomande's extraordinary progress is a classic rags-to-riches story. He had trials with Chelsea, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Rangers before being offered a contract with Spanish side Leganes in March 2025.He made just 10 appearances for Leganes, scoring two goals, before Leipzig signed him for a reported 20 million the following July, while he started all four games for the Ivory Coast as they reached the last 32 at this summer's World Cup.
