SPORTS.YAHOO.COMReal Madrid agree 135m deal for RB Leipzig forward Yan DiomandeReal Madrid have agreed a 135 million ($156 million) deal with RB Leipzig for teenage Ivory Coast forward Yan Diomande, the Press Association understands.Diomande's rapid rise for Leipzig in the Bundesliga last season led to a host of Europe's top clubs queuing up to buy him and Real appear to have won the race for his signature after tabling a fee of 135 million.Diomande will become the most expensive African footballer ever should the deal be completed.Paris St Germain pulled out of the race to sign him last month, leaving the way clear for Madrid to close in on the 19-year-old, who scored 13 goals and made 10 assists for Leipzig during the 2025-26 campaign.Diomande's extraordinary progress is a classic rags-to-riches story. He had trials with Chelsea, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Rangers before being offered a contract with Spanish side Leganes in March 2025.He made just 10 appearances for Leganes, scoring two goals, before Leipzig signed him for a reported 20 million the following July, while he started all four games for the Ivory Coast as they reached the last 32 at this summer's World Cup.0 Comments 0 Shares 87 Views 0 Reviews -
SPORTS.YAHOO.COMWhat's wrong with the Dodgers? Defending champs post 6 straight losses despite Tarik Skubal tradeBefore the Los Angeles Dodgers can ruin baseball once and for all, they need to figure out how to win a game again. The defending champions posted their sixth straight loss on Wednesday, falling 7-6 to the Chicago Cubs. They have now been swept in back-to-back series at the hands of the Cubs and Boston Red Sox, going from the best record in MLB to the third-best win percentage in the NL. A division lead that was once 14 games could be down to eight depending on how the Arizona Diamondbacks do later Wednesday. Which is still the largest division lead in baseball but crazier things have happened. Its a run that runs counter to the broader narrative around the team over the past week, specifically when they called in a trade to put two-time defending American League Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal in Dodger blue. Reading the headlines and social media commentary, this team was supposed to be inevitable, to the point of sapping joy out of the national pastime and making a salary cap the only way forward for MLB.Instead, the Dodgers are 10-15 since the Fourth of July. Lets ponder whats happening. The Dodgers have always been a vulnerable juggernautPerspective might be the way to start here. For all thats been made about the Dodgers success over the past decade or so, they have never been immune to a bad month every season, because they play baseball.Take, for example, every Dodgers team that has made a World Series in a full season. The 2017 Dodgers went 12-17 in the month of September. The 2018 Dodgers had a losing record as late as June 6. The 2024 Dodgers lost five straight in May and had a losing record in July. Last years Dodgers lost seven straight in July, and that wasnt even when their bullpen was in free fall.Thats what happens in a sport where the best regular-season win percentage since the dead-ball era is 72.1% (the 1954 Cleveland Indians). Losses happen, and they can come in bunches. The Dodgers have some issues. They have not been Space Jamd. The Dodgers have been here before.Michael Reaves via Getty ImagesIt might also be worth thinking about what a super-team is in baseball. The Dodgers going back-to-back in 2024 and 2025 is frequently treated as proof positive that a salary cap is needed to save a sport where the richest team can dominate, and even those title-winning teams had such glaring issues (rotation depth in 2024, bullpen in 2025) that they both needed to win back-to-back elimination games at some point.Los Angeles losing six straight games is a bad development for Los Angeles. It is nothing that team hasnt experienced before. They just happen to be losing at a time when schadenfreude is going to be at an all-time high after the Skubal trade. The Dodgers winning pace was unsustainable with the talent they have on the fieldThe Dodgers losing every leg of what is essentially a full turn through a six-man rotation doesnt sound right. It makes a little more sense when you consider the starting pitchers on the mound. Heres the group:Edgardo HenriquezYoshinobu YamamotoEmmet SheehanJustin WrobleskiTarik SkubalEric LauerNow, obviously, the Dodgers should have won the Yamamoto and Skubal starts. They didnt because they scored three runs total in those two games. They probably should have scored more but, again, baseball. You could say theyre pressing amid the heat over Skubal, but this is a core that has navigated a far brighter spotlight and come out just fine. The Red Sox and Cubs pitching staffs simply did a very good job of limiting what has been the fourth highest-scoring offense in MLB this season. As for the other games, the first loss to the Red Sox was a bullpen game in which recent call-up Cole Irvin surrendered the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, and then five more in a lengthy appearance meant to cover for a gassed bullpen. He was designated for assignment the next day.The Sheehan start saw the pitcher everyone expected to lose his rotation spot to Skubal allow five runs in 2 2/3 innings. He was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City the next day.Wrobleski has been the Dodgers most pleasant surprise this season, but the bill came due both regression-wise and maybe fatigue-wise when he allowed seven earned runs in the series-opener against the Cubs. He has never thrown more than 118 1/3 innings in a single season as a professional, and just hit 117 innings in 2026.Wednesday saw Lauer, acquired basically for free after he was designated for assignment by the Toronto Blue Jays in May, appear in his first Dodgers loss in his 10th game with the team. The Cubs pounced on him for 11 hits and six runs in four innings.Shohei Ohtani didnt start any of those games. Nor did Blake Snell or Tyler Glasnow. After Yamamoto and Skubal, those are the Dodgers next three choices to start games that matter. All three pitchers are expected to return the mound at some point this season, with Snell and Glasnow currently on rehab assignments and Ohtani basically waiting until his knee stops bothering him.The Dodgers are also currently without their top two catchers in Will Smith and Dalton Rushing, not to mention their usual list of relievers on the injured list. Obviously, every team deals with injuries, but it stands to reason that the Dodgers were seeing now wont be the same team in October. The revelation here isnt that the Dodgers are suddenly bad. Its probably that they were playing like the best team in baseball despite missing a half-dozen major contributors at times between May and June, and now some of the guys who excelled in that stretch are coming back to earth.Could Wednesdays ending be a sign of changes to come? The first two losses of the Cubs series were one-sided and Wednesday was shaping up to be the most joyless of them all, but then the Dodgers found a gear theyve been seemingly missing since last week.Down 7-1 going into the eighth inning, Max Muncy and Ohtani hit five runs worth of homers to make it a one-run game. They failed to break through against Jacob Webb in the ninth inning, but the eighth was still their most productive inning of the losing streak. If youre looking for any sort of momentum, thats a good sign, especially when L.A. has an off day Thursday and can further regroup. This weekends series against the D-backs is suddenly worth watchingAll of this has been to say that the Dodgers certainly havent been good over the past week, but no team in baseball has less reason to panic in this situation. However, if theres an actual consequence to this losing streak, its that theyve made their upcoming weekend series matter.Depending on how the D-backs do against the San Diego Padres later Wednesday, they will enter a three-game home series with either an eight or nine-game deficit against the Dodgers. Lengthen the Dodgers losing streak and that deficit suddenly becomes easily beatable over the next month and a half.Barring a change, the Dodgers will be starting Roki Sasaki on Friday, with the hope he continues the best stretch of his MLB career. They will start Yamamoto on Saturday and Wrobleski on Sunday. Thats still not their best group, but its certainly good enough that firmer conclusions will be available if this streak continues.0 Comments 0 Shares 66 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMPatriots TE returns for first time at training camp practiceNew England Patriots tight end C.J. Dippre is officially off the physically unable to perform list. The second-year former Alabama standout was in uniform for Wednesday's walkthrough practice after opening up training camp on the PUP list, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss. Dippre signed with the Patriots in May 2025, after going undrafted that year. He was signed to the active roster last November, but he spent most of the year on the practice squad.Dippre was spotted on the practice field Wednesday wearing a brace on his left wrist. That had some wondering if he was out due to a wrist injury. Whatever the case may be, the Patriots are certainly glad to have him back in the fold to help improve their tight end depth. TE C.J. (Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC)The main event for UFC 331 is finally set with Joshua Van defending his flyweight title in a rematch against former champion Alexandre Pantoja, who is now healthy and ready to compete again. In the co-main event, Arman Tsarukyan faces Mauricio Ruffy in a five-round fight between lightweights who are both jockeying for a title shot against current champion Justin Gaethje. The main event features Pantoja making his return to action after a freak injury ended his dominant title reign in his first fight against Van in 2025. Pantoja fell awkwardly during an exchange and his arm popped, which forced the fight to be stopped in the opening round. While he recovered, Van took over as UFC flyweight champion and made a successful defense of his title in a potential Fight of the Year candidate against Tatsuro Taira in May. Now Van looks to settle any debates about his championship reign when he faces Pantoja in a rematch now scheduled for September. In the co-main event, widely considered the top lightweight contender in the UFC, Tsarukyan returns after spending the better part of the past year making a name for himself in RAF where hes been wrestling almost every month. Now he gets back to business in the UFC trying to build on his five-fight win streak, which includes wins over Charles Oliveira, Beneil Dariush and Dan Hooker. As for Ruffy, he looks to carry the momentum from a standout performance at the UFC White House card where he demolished Michael Chandler to extend his winning streak to three in a row overall when he returns at UFC 331. In addition to the main and co-main events, the rest of the UFC 331 card was also announced, although the full bout order is still to be determined. SPORTS.YAHOO.COMIt just makes me sad: Sophie Cunningham sounds off on state of WNBA after trans commentsAug 2, 2026; Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA; Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham (8) reacts to play during a stop in the action against the Minnesota Lynx in the fourth quarter at Target Center. Mandatory Credit: Matt Blewett-Imagn ImagesIndiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham sparked a controversy with her comments on transgender athlete participation in womens sports in a July 21 profile published by ESPN.I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans. And Im like, I never once said that,' she said in the feature. I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldnt have to go against biological men.Since the initial comments, everyone from her podcast co-host to the White House has weighed in on the hot-button topic, and rallies in support of Cunningham have been held outside of the arenas Indiana is set to play in before the Fevers games. On Wednesday, after weeks of the debate continuing with seemingly no end, Cunningham called on the focus to return to basketball.I think the WNBA media, all we ever do is cover everything except basketball, and its like, what, like, what are we doing? Cunningham asked at practice on Wednesday. Theres so much, like, you can talk about other things. I think those are great stories. I think It shows fans, you know, who people are outside of the court. But I also think we got to keep the main thing the main thing.Interestingly, Cunningham is a part of the media herself, with featured appearances on USA Network. In an appearance on the network on Tuesday, Cunningham was asked about the Seattle Storm minority owner who reportedly verbally berated two young fans for holding pro-Cunningham signs at a Storm-Fever game, and was suspended for five Storm home games by the WNBA for the incident.I know that people are not always going to align and agree. I totally understand that. But I think the most important thing is of having that respect, having that love, and pursuing peace in these conversations, in these debates, because I think that is healthy. Now, with that being said, I just hate how the W, the basketball of it all, is just getting overshadowed. I think that you were seeing teams playing at the highest level theyve ever played at. You see, uh, great basketball, the most elite level basketball this league has ever seen. And it just makes me sad that all this kind of drama in, um, on things that truly dont matter are getting overshadowed, that the basketball is getting overshadowed. And so My biggest thing is love and respect. I think theres room for absolutely everybody. We dont always have to agree, but that respect and love definitely has to be there.I know that people are not always going to align and agree but I think the most important thing is having that respect, having that love, and pursuing peace in these conversations.USA Network contributor Sophie Cunningham addresses the fallout from her stance on trans pic.twitter.com/qx1bl7lG6S Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) August 5, 2026Cunningham also previously addressed the owner on X.I truly believe there is a safe space and love for EVERYBODY. Biological girls, biological boys, trans women, and trans men. Everyone is welcome at my table! You can disagree and still be kind, she posted. Bravo to those girls for standing up for what they believe. Youll be hearing from me soon. yay for gifts. Its clear that Cunningham is trying to pivot the focus away from the controversy she started. Only time will tell how it goes. The post It just makes me sad: Sophie Cunningham sounds off on state of WNBA after trans comments appeared first on The Comeback: Todays Top Sports Stories & Reactions.0 Comments 0 Shares 65 Views 0 Reviews

SPORTS.YAHOO.COMAaron Donalds Surprise Rams Practice Appearance Fuels Return BuzzLos Angeles Rams star Aaron Donald is continuing to march toward a return after a formal tryout with the team. Donald took part in practice, though it wasnt for the team to evaluate; it was for him to see how he feels about stepping on the field. View this post on InstagramA post shared by LA Sports Report (@lasportsreport)At the age of 35 with years of wear on his body, Donald made the decision in 2023 to retire following another great season, ending his football career on a high note. Despite Donald continuing to work out and stay in ridiculous shape, there was never much talk of him coming back. October 15, 2023; Inglewood, California, USA; Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald (99) during the fourth quarter against the Arizona Cardinals at SoFi Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kyle Terada-Imagn ImagesHowever, everything changed once the Rams traded for another all-time defender in Myles Garrett. Soon, talk started to erupt about Donald coming back to play with another legend, forming an incredible pass-rushing duo. Since then, things have progressed slowly, with Donald doing so much work at the Rams facility and teases from former teammates. Donald did not show up to the start of training camp, and according to McVay, things will not change until the end of the first part. There wont be any news on that front until we get back to Woodland Hills, McVay said. Weve loosely had some different timelines that are kind of temporary. I want to keep those between us just if something unforeseen happens, out of respect for him and the situation. But I know this: Things are going in the right direction. And if theres an arrow, its trending upwards.Dec 3, 2023; Inglewood, California, USA; Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald (99) enters the field before the game against the Cleveland Browns at SoFi Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesGarrett and the Rams are not going to push Donald into coming back; rather, they want to take on a hand-off approach until he decides. If hes here, Im going to be excited to be his teammate, his partner in crime, Garrett said. And I think we can do great things, but its a difficult thing coming back and I know he has a family. He has a lot of decisions to make. For the coming weeks, Donald is playing a waiting game, feeling himself out before going all in.
