Napoli push on for Chelseas Badiashile as Fenerbahe eye Milinkovi-Savi
Napoli push on for Chelseas Badiashile as Fenerbahe eye Milinkovi-SaviNapoli are pressing hard to complete a deal for Chelseas Benot Badiashile, even as one of the goalkeepers on their books draws interest from Turkey.According to AreaNapoli, relaying Sky Sport, fresh direct talks between the two clubs took place on Thursday over the France defender, but they have yet to unlock the deal. The stumbling block remains the structure: Napoli are insisting on a loan with an option to buy, whereas the two clubs are still some way apart on both the formula and the finances. The Partenopei, though, have no intention of backing off and will keep pushing to close the gap. In the meantime, an alternative has vanished, with Nayef Aguerd, a Marseille defender who had been considered, closing in on a move to Real Sociedad.COMO, ITALY MAY 02: Vanja Milinkovic-Savic of SSC Napoli reacts during the Serie A match between Como 1907 and SSC Napoli at Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium on May 02, 2026 in Como, Italy. With Alex Meret increasingly nailed on as first-choice goalkeeper, Fenerbahe have opened exploratory talks over Vanja Milinkovi-Savi.According to Nicol Schira, the Istanbul club see the Serbian as the ideal successor to Ederson, whose own future is in doubt after receiving two significant offers.Should Ederson leave, Milinkovi-Savi is viewed as the man to replace him, offering the club a route to move on a keeper now surplus to requirements.

Shaun Maloney reveals Jota recovery plan
Shaun Maloney reveals Jota recovery planShaun Maloney has spoken about the plans to re-introduce long term injury victim Jota back into the Celtic side, on that day that the Portuguese winger was pictured back on the training field at LennoxtownJota of Celtic receives treatment before leaving the field during the Scottish Premiership match between Dundee United FC and Celtic FC at Tannadice on April 26, 2025. (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)It has been a long and difficult 16 months for Jota after he was helped off the pitch at Tannadice and left in crutches as the rest of his teammates celebrated a title win in the City of Discovery.Shaun Maloney, who is taking media duties in the absence of Martin ONeill who is recovering at home after surgery, revealed that the plan is to gradually nurse Jota back to full fitness, but didnt commit to an actual comeback timeframe.Jota has endured an agonising 16 months, with his ACL injury suffering more than a few setbacks, with some supporters worrying that his career could indeed be over.Jota of Celtic receives treatment before leaving the field during the Scottish Premiership match between Dundee United FC and Celtic FC at Tannadice on April 26, 2025. (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)Martin ONeill had previously indicated a timeline of Halloween for the Portugueses comeback, and Maloney reiterated his mentors sentiment. The Celtic Assistant Manager said: Yeah, definitely. It might take a bit of time and hard work. Hes definitely putting in the hours. He looks really strong. Hes got every chance. I think it might take a bit of time.Cameron Carter-Vickers had a really bad injury. He was out for eight or nine months, but he had the full pre-season. So, well have to try and do something similar with Jota to give him the best chance. Theres absolutely no doubt that he can do it.Cameron Carter-Vickers of Celtic. Its one thing coming back to training this week with no contact. Then you have to become free in the next few weeks and build up that tolerance to it. We then have to create friendlies for him too.By the time you see him on the pitch for the first team, there will have been a few hurdles to get over. Halloween or November might not be a million miles away. I would hope that its earlier for the guys sake, but Im not really sure when it will be.Hopefully it will be quicker because he has accelerated in the last few weeks but Im not really sure.Jota of Celtic celebrates scoring the opening goal with team mate Reo Hatate during the Scottish Premiership match between Dundee United and Celtic at Tannadice on April 26, 2025. (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)A fully fit Jota will clearly give Celtic more quality on the left wing, thats much needed especially after the sale of Daizen Maeda to Ipswich Town. Since leaving Celtic after the 2023 Scottish Cup Final win over Inverness Caley Thistle, Jotas played very little competitive football with his moves to Saudi Arabia and then France failing to result in regular minutes on the park.Jota of Celtic celebrates after scoring his teams second goal during the Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Dundee United at Celtic Park on February 15, 2025. (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)That seemed set to change with his homecoming to Paradise but the cruel fate that awaited our Superstar from Portugal that afternoon at Tannadice has given him the most challenging time of his career. Everyone hopes that Jotas return is successful in terms of his fitness. If it is then well clearly see him finally back doing what he does best, on the park in a Celtic shirt.HAVE YOUR SAY Join the Celtic conversation in our comments section belowCeltic Shorts is the new home for the team from The Celtic StarSummer Sale now on! Guardiola emerges as Barcelona’s unexpected ally in beating Real Madrid in race for Man City superstar
Guardiola emerges as Barcelonas unexpected ally in beating Real Madrid in race for Man City superstarBarcelona continue to gain momentum in the race to sign Rodri. The Spanish midfielder has become one of the biggest names of the transfer window, and in recent hours Barcelonas chances of landing him have strengthened, overtaking arch-rivals Real Madrid in the race. Now, according to information from COPE(h/t SPORT), Pep Guardiola has played an important role in Rodris willingness to seriously consider a move to Barcelona.Guardiolas influenceGuardiola is one of the people who knows Rodri best after coaching him for several seasons at Manchester City.According to the report, the former Manchester City manager has spoken with Rodri about his future and presented Barcelonas project in a very positive light.Guardiola understands the club better than almost anyone, having enjoyed some of the greatest years of his career there as both a player and a manager. He knows the demands, the philosophy and the expectations that come with wearing the Barcelona shirt.Guardiola is understood to have spoken to Rodri about his future. (Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images)Peps opinion is believed to carry significant weight with Rodri. Under Guardiola, the midfielder developed into one of Manchester Citys most influential players and established himself as one of the worlds best holding midfielders. That close professional and personal relationship helps explain why Rodri places particular value on Guardiolas advice when considering the next step in his career.Real Madrid were leading the race for Rodri in recent weeks. But talks with Manchester City slowed down, opening the doors for Barcelona. And that is where Guardiolas intervention proved decisive. The former managers advice is understood to have played a part in helping convince Rodri that Camp Nou was the right destination.Barcelona see Rodri as a statement signingRodri chose Barcelona over Real Madrid. (Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images)Within Barcelona, there is a belief that Rodri would represent a transformational addition to the midfield. His ability to dictate games from deep, his experience at the highest level and his familiarity with La Liga make him an ideal fit for the profile the club are seeking.Even so, the operation remains far from straightforward.Manchester City have no intention of making life easy for any club hoping to sign one of their most important players, and any negotiations would require a significant financial commitment from Barcelona. For now, no agreement has been reached, and Rodris future remains unresolved. Talks are ongoing between the two clubs, with Barcelona expected to return with an improved offer after their opening proposal was shot down.

Johansson relishing facing last season's 'nemesis' on Sunday
Alfred Johansson really does take things one game at a time.On Wednesday, he admitted he "didn't even know about the draw" in relation to potentially facing Freiburg in the Conference League play-offs, and on Thursday, he certainly wouldn't entertain any questions about reaching that stage by defeating HJK Helsinki next week. For now, the Finnish side is not on his mind. His sole focus is Falkirk on Sunday. It will be the Swede's first home game in the Scottish Premiership, and though he only joined over the summer, he's acutely aware of the hold the Bairns had over the Steelmen last season. "They were the nemesis last year," Johansson said in Helsinki, shortly before he and his players hopped on a plane back home to prepare for the meeting with John McGlynn's side after a 1-1 first-leg draw in Finland."I don't think anyone cannot be so excited by the opportunity to play them on Saturday."The staff have a lot of knowledge about them, I know they're a good team from what I've seen already - including from some of the games last year I watched prior to signing the contract here."They're a good team with a lot of energy, a lot of stability within the club and the manager's position. "They're improving all the time, exceeding expectations and it's going to be a difficult game but we're looking forward to it with confidence."They've lost a few players, but we have too so it's going to be a tight game - that's what the Premiership is, isn't it?"

Aleksander Pavlovi is proud to play for Bayern Munich
Munich, Germany - May 16: Aleksander Pavlovic of FC Bayern Muenchen gestures during the Bundesliga match between FC Bayern Mnchen and 1. FC Kln at Allianz Arena on May 16, 2026 in Munich, Germany. (Photo by Oliver Kaelke/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images) | DeFodi Images via Getty ImagesAleksander Pavlovi is the perfect example of a Bayern Munich youth talent breaking through to the first team and becoming a top player. While it is a rare thing for these examples in the last decade or so, the academy is trending in the right direction. When these players to break through to the senior team, it really is something special and Pavlovi himself recently spoke upon his experience.I already had the club in my heart when I joined FC Bayern at the age of seven. Growing up in Munich, I was always a Bayern fan, and I went through every youth team at the club. It wasnt until the U-19s that I first realized I had a real chance of making it as a professional player for my favourite club. Today, its truly special for me, a dream come true, to play for my home club, stated Pavlovi, as captured by @iMiaSanMia.It is truly unbelievable to imagine such a dream coming true, but it hasnt always been sunshine and rainbows for the German midfielder. Pavlovi missed out on the home tournament of Euro 2024 and several other big opportunities over his young career due to odd injuries and illnesses.Luckily, it seems like that luck is behind him and while he didnt exactly shine bright at the World Cup over the summer, the future of the Bayern Munich midfield is in strong hands with himself and Tom Bischof poised to lead the midfield over the next decade. Heres hoping for Pavlovi to have a long and successful career in his familiar home in Munich.Join the conversation!Sign up for a user accountand get:New, improved notifications system!Fewer adsCreatecommunity postsComment on articles, community postsRec comments, community posts

Report – How a secret meeting with Deco convinced Rodri to choose Barcelona
Report How a secret meeting with Deco convinced Rodri to choose BarcelonaOne of the most remarkable aspects of FC Barcelonas pursuit of Rodri is not the transfer itself, but the extraordinary secrecy surrounding the entire operation.Although recent developments have made it seem as though everything happened within a matter of hours, the groundwork had been laid over several weeks, with Bara quietly working behind the scenes to convince the Spanish midfielder, reports SPORT.With virtually no leaks and complete confidentiality, Bara managed to overturn a situation that, only days earlier, appeared to be firmly in Real Madrids favour. The key meeting that started everythingAfter enjoying a short holiday in Croatia, Deco had the option of flying directly to Birmingham on 30 July to join Barcelonas pre-season training camp. But instead he returned to Barcelona first, spending just over a day in the city before joining the rest of the delegation in England. It was no coincidence. Deco had deliberately kept that window free because he had scheduled a meeting that could shape Baras entire summer transfer strategy.By then, the Catalans sporting director had already held several telephone conversations with Rodris representatives and had made initial enquiries regarding the financial aspects of a potential deal.Barcelona then decided to take the next step. They wanted to meet the player face to face. The club demanded complete discretion from everyone involved. Nobody wanted photographs, leaks or unnecessary attention to jeopardise negotiations of such importance. The meeting that changed everythingDeco arranged a secret meeting with Rodri. (Photo by David Ramos/Getty Images)At the end of July, Rodri happened to be in Catalonia after attending a wedding on the Costa Brava. Taking advantage of his presence in the region, Deco arranged a private meeting, and Rodri agreed to listen to Barcelonas sporting project. The meeting took place in a room at a well-known five-star hotel and lasted around two and a half hours.During those discussions, Deco personally outlined the Blaugranas long-term project, explained the role Rodri would have in the team and emphasised how important Hansi Flick considered him to his tactical plans.Barcelona made it clear that they wanted Rodri to become one of the central figures of the clubs new era. That conversation dramatically changed Rodris perspective. Up until then, Real Madrid had been the club furthest advanced in negotiations. The midfielder had listened to their proposal and held several conversations with the club, but he had never given his definitive approval. Following the meeting with Deco, however, the balance shifted noticeably.Barcelona came away extremely satisfied with how the discussions had gone, although they also understood that one meeting alone would never be enough to complete a transfer of this magnitude.Flick takes a personal roleFlick directly spoke to Rodri. (Photo by Juan Manuel Serrano Arce/Getty Images)From that point onward, much of the work took place behind the scenes. Deco maintained constant contact with Rodri, while Flick became one of the most influential figures in the operation. The German coach spoke directly with the midfielder on several occasions, explaining exactly what he expected from him and detailing the role he envisioned for him within Barcelonas midfield. That level of involvement also reflected the close working relationship between Flick and Deco, who remained perfectly aligned throughout the negotiations.Dani Codinas quiet influenceAnother key figure remained almost entirely unnoticed throughout the process. According to sources familiar with the negotiations, Dani Codina played an important role behind the scenes.Although largely unknown to supporters, Barcelonas player liaison officer is highly regarded within the club. His responsibilities include helping players with every aspect of daily life, from accommodation and travel arrangements to logistical support, allowing them to focus exclusively on football. His connection with Rodri proved especially valuable. Before joining Barcelona, Codina worked at Manchester City, where he developed an excellent relationship with the Spanish midfielder. That trust became an important asset during negotiations.According to the report, Codina helped facilitate the initial hotel meeting and remained involved during several crucial moments, offering Rodri reassurance throughout the process.Another decisive tripRodri rejected Real Madrid for Barcelona. (Photo by Molly Darlington/Getty Images)There was still one final push to come. Last Tuesday, Deco travelled to Madrid on various transfer-related matters and used the opportunity to continue advancing discussions over Rodri. The sporting director wanted to personally reinforce Barcelonas determination to complete the signing. His message was simple. The club was fully committed to making Rodri the leader of its new midfield. Those conversations further strengthened the positive feelings that had already emerged after the Barcelona meeting, leaving negotiations ready for the players final decision.Conversations between all parties remained constant over the following days. Then, last Thursday, Barcelona finally received the phone call they had been waiting for.Rodris representatives informed the club that the sporting project presented by Deco and Flick had convinced the player, giving the operation the decisive breakthrough Bara had been hoping for.Although several details still need to be finalised, Barcelona believe they are now very close to signing one of the worlds finest holding midfielders and, in the process, have disrupted plans that Real Madrid had been working on for months.
