I dont care how old he is: Brett Lees big warning for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
NEW DELHI: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already made a remarkable impression on the cricketing world at 15, and Australia pace great Brett Lee believes the teenager has everything required to achieve bigger and better things provided he is protected from the pressure accompanying his rapid rise.Sooryavanshi became one of the biggest stories of IPL 2026 after an extraordinary campaign for Rajasthan Royals. The left-hander scored 776 runs in 16 matches to claim the Orange Cap, repeatedly displaying a fearless approach against some of the world's best bowlers. His performances earned him a fast-track call-up to India's T20I side. After a difficult start to international cricket during the England series, Sooryavanshi responded impressively on India's Zimbabwe tour, finishing as Player of the Series. For Lee, however, the teenager's age should not overshadow what he is already doing on the field. This kid can play cricketSooryavanshi's age has become a constant talking point outside India, but Lee believes the focus should be on his ability rather than the number attached to his name.He is incredible. Everyone offshore, away from India, asks the question if he's 15. He is 15 is probably the biggest talking point around the world. I don't care how old he is. If he's 15, fantastic, but if he's 17 or 18, who cares. This kid can play cricket. He has been such a great find for India, and he's going to go on to achieve bigger and better things, Lee said on the BeerBiceps YouTube channel. The former Australia fast bowler was particularly impressed by Sooryavanshi's ability to take on express pace during the IPL, including against Australian quicks. He has already lit up the IPL in such a short space of time. That 97 he got (vs SRH), he was up against Aussie bowlers. They were bowling gas, and he was hooking them off his nose. He is playing proper cricketing shots and has power that he finds from somewhere, Lee said.Itll only be his mindWhile Lee sees little reason to worry about Sooryavanshi's batting or current form, he believes the mental side of the game will be the biggest test as expectations continue to grow.It won't be his form or batting; it'll only be his mind. He still has to be a kid. Let him be a kid and don't put too much pressure, Lee said. The warning comes after Sooryavanshi's rapid transition from teenage prospect to IPL star and then an India international. The attention surrounding him is only likely to increase as he continues to perform at the highest level. How Lee would have bowled to SooryavanshiLee also offered an insight into how he would have approached the challenge of bowling to the teenager, particularly given Sooryavanshi's confidence against short-pitched deliveries. If someone was a good hooker or puller of the ball, I used to love that because then it becomes a contest. So of course I would go into the boardroom, go upstairs and have a look. I'll put one on his badge and see what he does with it. He might hook me for six, but it won't discourage me from giving him another one, Lee said. For a player who has already shown he is not intimidated by reputation or pace, such contests could become a defining feature of Sooryavanshi's early career. But Lee's message is clear: the teenager's biggest battle may not be against fast bowlers at all. It may be learning to handle everything that comes with being cricket's latest teenage sensation. 133064840

Former Real Madrid star dismisses Rodri reject claims after Barcelona agreement – “A bad joke”
Former Real Madrid star dismisses Rodri reject claims after Barcelona agreement A bad jokeBarcelona are making progress to sign Manchester City midfield star Rodri this summer transfer window. It looked for quite a few weeks like the Spaniard was headed to Real Madrid, but the Catalan club have overtaken them to get the players permission. His agreement with Bara has sparked plenty of debate and now, former Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes has weighed in on the saga.Rather than focusing on why the Ballon dOr-winning midfielder chose Barcelona, Morientes argued that Real Madrid were never truly determined to sign him.Morientes rejects the Rodri turned down Madrid narrativeMorientes is clearly not happy with Rodri. (Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images)Speaking on El Partidazo de COPE (h/t SPORT), Morientes dismissed the suggestion that Barcelona beat Real Madrid to one of the biggest signings of the summer. It seems like a very bad joke to me, the former striker said. Those of us who know how this works are aware that Real Madrid never really wanted Rodri at any point, he continued. He also questioned the growing narrative that Rodri rejected Los Blancos in favour of Barcelona.Theyre treating us like fools when they say Rodri rejected Real Madrid, he revealed. If Florentino wanted himMorientes believes the story is now being presented in a way that shifts responsibility away from Madrid. Now they pass the hot potato to the player by saying he wanted to sign for Barcelona, he said.He also made a strong statement on Florentino Perez. If Florentino Perez had wanted him, this signing would not have slipped away, he concluded.Morientes believes Barcelonas success in convincing Rodri had less to do with beating Madrid and more to do with the Spanish champions deciding not to pursue the deal with full conviction.Barcelonas project proved convincingBarcelona are yet to reach an agreement with Man City for Rodri. (Photo by Justin Setterfield/Getty Images)Morientes can say what he wants, but Barcelona have done their part.Deco and Hansi Flick presented Rodri with a sporting project that appealed to him, while the midfielder also saw Barcelonas possession-based style as a natural fit for his game. The Catalans also reached an agreement on personal terms before intensifying talks with Manchester City, showing how much groundwork had already been completed behind the scenes.Whether Madrid truly stepped away or simply lost the race is something only those involved will know. What is clear, however, is that Barcelona have convinced one of the worlds finest midfielders to buy into Flicks long-term vision. The outcome remains clear: the club are on the verge of securing one of the biggest signings of the summer and in their recent history.

Jaguars coach weighs in on how new addition can make impact
The Jacksonville Jaguars recently signed veteran linebacker Jahlani Tavai, and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile detailed what he could potentially add to this defense. On the surface, this felt like a depth addition as the Jaguars navigate injuries at linebacker. Jack Kiser is currently sidelined, while Jared Bartlett was waived with an injury designation. However, as Campanile described, Tavai can offer more than that."Obviously, we've had some injuries in camp," Campanile said, "but I've seen Jahlani play over the years. Some guys who I know really, really well have coached him, been around him. So there's definitely a familiarity with him and the way he plays. He's been in a system that has a lot of the same tenets as ours when he was in Detroit and then New England. We played very similarly in Miami when I was there. So there's a lot of carry over even just the verbiage to everything -- it's an easier transition for him."Safe to say Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile has an IDEAL VISION for Jahlani Tavais usage in his system#Jaguars | #DUUUVALpic.twitter.com/aRSf9tAYBd 1010 XL / 92.5 FM (@1010XL) August 8, 2026Tavai is an experienced player, having been in the NFL since 2019, when he was a second-round pick by Detroit. He has appeared in 107 games, making 67 starts.Tavai has recorded 432 total tackles, along with four interceptions and 11 pass breakups. In 2025, he played 290 defensive snaps with New EnglandHis addition to the Jacksonville defense brings another physical and versatile presence to the linebacker room."He's a big, physical guy who's played multiple roles and he's also a guy that can play on the line of scrimmage, off the ball, and on third down have rush value," Campanile added. "And like I said, last year there's guys who are kind of three-down guys and to me, that's his three down value -- as a third down rusher, he can bring something. Knows the pass rush games and has done a good job with that where he's been, so that's what was exciting about him for us."From the sounds of it, there's a path forward for Tavai to make an impact, but could he push for a roster spot? That remains to be seen. Before his arrival, it was already a crowded position group, with Jalen McLeod, Parker Hughes, and Yasir Abdullah already competing for one potential roster spot. This article originally appeared on Jaguars Wire: Jaguars coach weighs in on how new addition can make impact

Maldini claims Guardiola was already drafting formations for Italy: Money wasnt an issue
Maldini claims Guardiola was already drafting formations for Italy: Money wasnt an issuePaolo Maldini says that Pep Guardiola was so intrigued about the opportunity of taking over as head coach of the Italy national team that he was already drafting potential formations and analysing the youth teams, but claims that exhaustion and not money is the reason why the Spaniard was not appointed.Maldini has spoken in-depth about his short-lived reign as the technical director of the FIGC and his fall-out with FIGC President Giovanni Malag in an interview with the Corriere della Sera.Click here to read the full interview in English. What Maldini said about his attempts to appoint Guardiola as Italy head coachDuring his bombshell interview with the Corriere della Sera, Maldini spoke openly about the conversations he and advisor Leonardo had with former Barcelona and Manchester City head coach Guardiola.Maldini and Leonardo had visited Barcelona to speak to the recently-available tactician to discuss the project, but in the end, Guardiola decided that he was too tired after a 10-year spell in the Premier League to jump straight back into a new opportunity. He had expressed the idea of wanting to coach a national team to a few friends of his. We went to visit him in Barcelona, we had lunch together, we talked for a whole day, Maldini said. He was very tempted. He came very close to accepting. He even started writing formations down on pieces of paper, he claimed.LONDON, ENGLAND APRIL 27: Pep Guardiola, Manager of Manchester City, acknowledges the fans after the teams victory during the Emirates FA Cup Semi Final match between Nottingham Forest and Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on April 27, 2025 in London, England. (Photo by Shaun Botterill/Getty Images)Reports in Italy claimed that Guardiola wanted a salary of 20m per season to take over as head coach of the national team, which Maldini strongly denies: Absolutely not. Money was never an issue. Pep told us clearly: Give me one euro less than what the previous coach took and Im fine. So, why was Maldini unable to get Guardiola over the line, then?Because of exhaustion, Maldini insists. Guardiola is coming off the back of 10 gruelling years in the Premier League. Hes had back surgery, he wants to rest. But it was a very serious discussion, we studied the squads from the U17s upwards.BURNLEY, ENGLAND APRIL 22: Pep Guardiola, Manager of Manchester City, arrives at the stadium prior to the Premier League match between Burnley and Manchester City at Turf Moor on April 22, 2026 in Burnley, England. Will Commanders CB Trey Amos be ready for Week 1?
It was a good week for the Washington Commanders. On Wednesday, Washington agreed to a deal with four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs. On Thursday, the Commanders activated cornerback Trey Amos, edge rusher Dorance Armstrong, and punter Tress Way from the physically unable to perform/non-football injury lists after they passed their physicals.Diggs practiced with the Commanders for the first time on Friday, and Washington was back in pads on Saturday. Unfortunately, Washington's feel-good week came to an end when left tackle Laremy Tunsil was injured in Saturday's practice. It was later revealed to be a torn pec, which will likely end Tunsil's season before it begins. It was a brutal blow for the Commanders. Amos was on the practice field for Washington on Saturday, his second day of practice this summer. Great to see CB Trey Amos healthy and on that practice field pic.twitter.com/lSVMYAaPLA Scott Abraham (@Scott7news) August 8, 2026Before the Commanders hit the practice field on Saturday, head coach Dan Quinn said he expected Amos to be ready for Week 1. "Week 1, yes," Quinn said. "So yesterday, two to three in each period, and we'll kind of go through that today. He's fit, he's strong, but we are gonna ramp him up. And so, it'll take into today, get some more into next week as we're going. But yes, I definitely expect him to be kinda like fully there in a normal seven-day process, probably."However, at one point during Saturday's practice, Amos left the field. It was unclear what happened. It doesn't appear to be a serious issue, but Quinn doesn't speak again until Monday. Now #Commanders CB Trey Amos is headed into the facility. Didn't see what happened. Tashan Reed (@tashanreed) August 8, 2026Amos suffered a fractured fibula in Week 10 last season and has been working his way back since. Amos is expected to start at outside cornerback for Washington. The Commanders lost one of their depth corners last week, when veteran Ahkello Witherspoon unexpectedly retired. While much of the attention was on Tunsil's injury on Saturday, Quinn will certainly be asked about his second-year cornerback when he speaks on Monday. Report: Marquee Liverpool transfer under fresh threat as Arsenal line up audacious hijack
Report: Marquee Liverpool transfer under fresh threat as Arsenal line up audacious hijackA report on Saturday has indicated that Liverpool could be at risk of seeing a direct Premier League rival hijack their plans to sign a prominent transfer target. On Friday, it briefly seemed as though the Reds had finally made a significant breakthrough in their well-publicised pursuit of Bradley Barcola when Portuguese reporter Pedro Almeida claimed that a move for the Paris Saint-Germain forward was a done deal and a fee had been agreed between the two clubs. However, the more trusted Fabrizio Romano subsequently claimed that club-to-club talks were still ongoing and that an agreement was some way off, and it now seems that the Merseysiders could have fresh competition for the 23-year-old.Arsenal contact Barcolas campAccording to Graeme Bailey forTEAMtalk, Arsenal have made contact with Barcolas representatives and are now firmly in the conversation to snap up the PSG attacker, in whom Liverpools interest is indeed genuine. The stance from Paris is that theyve yet to receive a firm offer for the France international, who they value at 128m, and the Gunners are prepared to consider a significant investment for attacking reinforcements in the final weeks of the transfer window. The Reds have done the most groundwork up to now and are still believed to be in pole position for the player, but the threat from north London has made things far from straightforward.Want more Empire of the Kop coverage? Add us as apreferred source on Googleto your favourites list for news you can trustNo need for Liverpool to panicfor nowThe wording of this report would suggest that Liverpool fans dont need to unduly panic just yet, but the more time that elapses without Barcola moving to Anfield, the more that fears will grow over a potential hijack from Arsenal. The one line which could prompt worry among Kopites is the Gunners apparent readiness to make a significant investment, which hints that theyd be prepared to go all-out to gazump the Reds for the PSG forward. The Merseysiders could be faced with a massive dilemma they wont want to be bullied into paying more than what they believe the 23-year-old is worth, and rightly so, but that also comes with the risk of being outbid by Mikel Artetas side. The sight of the Premier League champions strengthening their ranks with a player Liverpool have so openly coveted would sting for LFC fans, especially when were on the cusp of a season in which well be striving to reel in the north Londoners after the clubs contrasting fortunes last time around. At present, it appears as though the transfer race could be decided by which of the two English giants is prepared to put more money on the table for Barcola, and whether PSG would be willing to accept any such offers from either Anfield or the Emirates Stadium.

10 colleges with most Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees
The Pro Football Hall of Fame inducted its class of 2026, which included quarterback Drew Brees, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, linebacker Luke Kuechly, running back Roger Craig, and kicker Adam Vinatieri. A few of them came from premier colleges along the way, but just one of them came from one of the top ten colleges to produce the most Pro Hall of Fame talent. That would be Larry Fitzgerald. The wide receiver played two seasons (2002-03) at Pitt, earning 161 receptions, 2,677 yards, and 34 touchdowns in 26 games. He earned a First Team Associated Press All-American selection in 2003, along with the Biletnikoff Award. His No. 1 is retired by Pitt, and he's one of the few to make the College Football and Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Panthers sit at no. 3, with 11 Pro Football Hall-of-Famers.The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and USC Trojans are tied for the most inducted Pro Football Hall of Famers, with 14. Notre Dame has inducted players like quarterback Joe Montana, running back Jerome Bettis, tight end Dave Casper, and defensive tackle Alan Page. The Trojans, meanwhile, have seen players such as safety Troy Polamalu, defensive lineman Junior Seau, left tackle Anthony Munoz, safety Ronnie Lott, running backs Marcus Allen and O.J. Simpson, and wide receiver Lynn Swann. When people describe the Notre Dame-USC rivalry as one of the best in the game, this is the evidence.Michigan is tied with Pitt, with 11 in total. That's a one-up on the Ohio State Buckeyes, who have 10. They sit at No. 5. The Miami Hurricanes are No. 6, with nine; Alabama and Syracuse are tied at No. 7 with eight; Minnesota's at No. 9 with seven, and Illinois is at No. 10 with six.
